that has been reversed. as per OPs post: "As many of you would've heard on the weekend, the US trade bans on Huawei has been reversed"

      • +1

Except it hasn’t. Trump has now clarified that there will be a partial backdown “where national security isn’t impacted”.

Nobody knows what he means. The ban is still in effect, and will be until mind-readers work out what Trump’s intentions are.

    • ???

        • +4

“Huawei is very much in play in terms of our country and in terms of intelligence and the intelligence community — we know a lot about Huawei — but I don’t want to mention that right now. I just think it’s inappropriate. We’re not making it other than what I told you… We’re going to save that for later.”

I know kids in primary school debate classes that talk more coherent than this
          :/

          • +2

@SBOB: Can they use adverbs correctly?

            • @King Tightarse: not likely, but they also are not the president of the US

(and yes, my sentence could have been improved if that's what you were aiming at ;) )

        • Could be reversed at anytime.

    • +5

Even if the embargo hadn't been removed, you would still be wrong.

  • +2

OP can you do a deal on the V30+?

    • -2

Its already cheap, what more deal u want?

    • Yes looking for v30/400 or v40/500ish

  • +6

now those who didn't take JB's deal of Huawei P30 must have regretted .

    • +2

But I have never seen a price drop for Huawei phone since that huawei announcement, just a usual deal.

      • because this was just a game from beginning between USA and China to fool the customers

        • +6

Huawei is just a scapegoat of Trump's agenda

            • +9

@kasp: And you have no idea how ignorant you are.

              https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2019/06/19/chinas-st…

You think Huawei steals all its tech and yet still spends that much money on R&D? You think Huawei don't pay any licencing fees in a global economy?

Stop being deluded by both the Chinese and US governments and use your head.

            • +3

@kasp: There is one of you people on every topic regarding Huawei and you all sound exactly the same - a US propaganda machine. 🤦‍♂️

      • +9

Amazing how Huawei has held its value better than the Samsung s10 series. The price drops for the Samsung would be painful for people without price protection

    • What was the JB deal??

    • -2

if it was P30 Pro :)

      • +1

its like seeing $1 mcd burger deal and wishing it was a shake shack burger, dream on

    • -1

      lol
glad I took the opportunity,a lot cheaper than to buy in China.
good public relationship move by Huawei, smart tactic, only happened in 5 eye country afaik,p20 pro deal last dec was 5 days right after Meng was arrested.p30 deal during Mothers day.

    • It was just smoke and mirrors by Trump. Was always going to be lifted. Huawei P30 is a brilliant phone.

  • +14

here to hear those Huawei haters and their comments…

    • +2

so far so disappointed…I'll come back later to join you again.

      • Waiting along as well

    • +1

      same.

    • they can always hoping trump changing his mind again :)

      • He has. He’s now saying that there will only be a partial backdown, where “national security won’t be impacted”, and nobody actually knows what he means.

    • Considering the republicans and democrats are still trying to keep the bans enforced despite what trump said I think it might be a bit early to call.

    • They're not haters just lowballers.

  • Will JB Hifi pricematch? (because i have their gift cards piling up)

  • -1

P30 light with free buds was around $424 last week with eBay code.

  • +3

been using a Huawei P30, nil complaint at all, the camera is supreme :)

  • Donald will say no or yes every three months, be prepared of that.

    • are you watching ozbargainer that didn't pay gst?

    • +11

"Donald will say no or yes every three minutes, be prepared of that." Fixed

      • +1

"Donald will say tweet no or yes every three minutes, be prepared of that." FTFY

  • Why there such a big difference in the Lite and regular P30?

    • flagship chip Kirin 980 :), camera system, etc

    • lite has kirin 710, regular p30 uses 980.

  • +6

Goes to show you that it was all about the trade war and not about the security. Why would all these concerns disappear otherwise.

    • Because us chip makers sell $10b+ per year to Huawei

  • +3

Happy to hear the ban reversed.Waiting for a even better deal.

    • Waiting for P30 or better model that comes with 5G

      • +1

Wait for 2nd gen of 5g phones, Telstra will take 2 years at least to get 5g rolled out enough to be worth the phone investment. Right now 5g phones attract far too high an premium for the feature.

        Oppo RENO 5g has 10x zoom and (I think) similar 48mp sony lens as P30 = $1500!

  • +5

Was hoping for a price drop during the scare compaign but it never happened. More expensive actually because Huawei are not giving away $200 gift cards and Sonos ones anymore.

    • Some people thought the p30 pro is worth $300 with the ban. No discount is going to be good enough.

Why would retailers do a fire sale and materialise the loss so quickly? It's like selling your shares as soon as the market bottoms out.

HP is pretty good at that, but that had been an exception to the rule.

  • +5

got a grey import p30 last weekend.. best phone I have owned for quite a while

    • +2

Same, got a Pro for $849, the camera is insane

      • +1

        from where?

        • Ebay 999 deal plus ebayplus week 15% off last weekend, gone with the wind LOL…

  • COnsidering getting the P30 lite to use as phone to use whilst in apac with a local sim as vodafone roaming is shocking.

How speedy is the cpu vs an iphone 8?

  • -7

P30 Pro dual sim 256gb/8gb cheaper on ebay after 5% off code PARSLEY from $1,172
P30 lite dual sim without free buds from $397

    many suppliers…

    • +6

Can you provide a link showing cheaper AU stock of P30 Pro or P30 Lite + FreeBud Lite bundle? If not, your neg is invalid.

  • +1

Well, more accurately it was a partial reversal of the ban, but welcome nonetheless.

  • +1

Great to hear that it's been reversed. I'd be more worried about Tim listening.

  • -2

I'm pretty confident the ban will come back - this was only a temporary truce make no mistake.

All those going ahead with the purchase, it's your loss.

    • The ban is going to come back. But then it's going to be reversed again.

  • I, for one, welcome back our new Chinese overlords.

  • Would anyone who got a P30 Pro be happy to share whether they received the box fully wrapped in plastic?

I bought a P30 Pro a few weeks ago but it didn't come wrapped with plastic film like the unboxing videos I watched.

    • yes with a wrap cover. Dont think it will last very long before it turns yellow ?

sad i still have some XS MAX phone covers left which not even been used …..

  • Tried to buy the Crystal version, but by the time I reached the payment page it was out of stock.
Does anyone sell dual sim version of the galaxy S10 Plus 128GB with AU warranty anywhere?
