Hi guys,

My first deal post on here! I've been doing research on what Naked ADSL2+ to get and this is what I ended up ordering. It seems to have the best cost vs satisfaction ratio I could find. I ordered it today and installation time is about 2 weeks which isn't the best but overall I'm happy with what's being offered.

Static IP

Until 30 June:
Free Wireless Modem
Free Neosaver package for a year ($60 value) which includes DID number & 60 local/global calls per month and after that 10c per call after that. Mobiles 12c/min.
12month contract: $99 setup + $13 equipment delivery fee.

    2 broadband lines?

Why not the TPG unlimited at $59?

    • yea, much better if u can get it!

    • +3

TPG unlimited doesn't come with VOIP. TPG 200GB + VOIP is $59.95/month as well as higher setup charges and no free modem.
Other reason that I couldn't consider it was that my exchange doesn't carry TPG's well priced offers

      • +1

Never saw this day coming. TPG is now the slumbering giant being overtaken by the competitor.

      • But with TPG unlimited, you get a home phone line. Useful if someone needs to call you from overseas for a long chat.

        • +1

You get a DID number with this deal too which effectively gives you the exact same service. Overseas calls are half of the appeal for us as there are 60 included calls and after that it's 10c/call.

        • The only real main benefit with a land line (over VOIP with an appropriate broadband connection) is that you can use if still the the internet goes down (That rarely is an issue these days esp for people with mobiles for backup) and it can power an old style non-portable phone directly (most plug in portable handsets requiring a power plug anyway).

With MyNetFone VOIP you can pick and change your phone number yourself. The number can be based in another state if that makes it cheaper for people calling you. You can use your current landline number (portability). It's free to call other MyNetFone numbers, etc. There's plenty of advantages over a landline (and I have both) and that's not even considering the cheaper call rates.

  • Do you need an Optus line for this? I tried to ask on whirlpool and no one answered.

    • I have a Telstra line and have been told that how it works is that mynetfone organise for the line to be handed over from Telstra to Optus and then they activate your service. They've accepted my application so I guess I'll see how I go.

      • That's different. This is because Optus has infrastructure at your exchange.
I am on a sub exchange and can only get Telstra. I doubt this can be had on a sub exchange although the Whirlpool BB finder lists Engin Naked on the Telstra list which I think is a mistake.

if u need to pay for the phone line, it will cost more over all!

    • +2

You don't need to pay for the phone line.

      • +1

then its a good alternative for ppl who can't get tpg unlimited!

  • Too Bad I can't get this !!
$59.99 Plan is awesome but I don't have optus line in Thornbury, vic … So Close To city Nd Still So Backward..

    • I don't think that you need to have an Optus line…you don't even need to have an active line. Just go to their website and check whether it's available in your area.

      • its not available in my area , I'm on iinet naked and I think you need an active line as the base is naked

  • You should state that it is for NAKED ADSL2+

    • Done.

  • I am currently with TPG $49.95 plan (out of contract), thinking if it is worth the hassle to transfer, saving the cost of the land line, which I seldom use.

    • i'm also in the same boat as you.

    • "200GB
      (100/100GB)" for Mynetfone.
      200gb whenever for TPG..

      TPG wins :)

  • Id rather pay 20 bucks more a month to get 150gb Naked and stay out of contract. Contracts suck!

    • I dont have peak and off peak either. Internode. $59

      • Same here… considering Node gives me $10 Nodephone credit per month for free still, I'm somewhat inclined to stay on my $59 Easy Naked S plan.

Still, at $49, this is a great value plan for people just signing up on an internet plan.

Naked all the way. MyNetFone voip quality is fantastic

  • +2

MyNetFone quality is OK. Make sure you have better than 256kb sec upload to ensure acceptable voip calls. Previously I had noticeable echo and delay, frequent dropouts and a few phantom calls. Since upgrading my ISP plan, these faults have yet to surface. Been with them for 2 years now.

  • +1

Very happy with my MyNetFone VOIP setup and call quality (as well as value and detailed billing/instant account info online) although mine is over internet from Optus directly currently.

  • Hopefully Other Carriers see these deals from optus ,mynetfone, etc and Provide everyone with Some Value For money..
Meanwhile, I'm stuck on iinet ,I would love to stay only if they were competitive

  • I'm happy with my MyNetFone service, although there are some occasional drop out and their VoIP service to overseas varies depending on where you call. In some places I get about 1/3 sec delay.. which can be quite annoying.

    • +1

Any VOIP solution is dependent on line speed. Having said that I had plenty of poor quality overseas calls over landline from Telstra and Optus (just depends which country you are calling and the state of telco infrastructure there). If the overseas end is poor quality it's not going to matter how great the carrier at our end ;-)

  • I use Internode Easy Naked A: $59.95/month for 150GB of Naked DSL
    Pros:
    - No peak / off-peak times
    - I opted for a one month contract ($129 setup)
    Cons:
    - Uploads counted

    • Internode has a free usenet account. It does not really matter anymore if Uploads are counted since you can get pretty much the same stuffs at high speed.

  • +1

    What?! 2 broadband lines?

So I can get two internets for the same amount I'm paying TPG for one internets?

    Sign me up!

  • Hmmm, I'm on the $59.99 200GB Naked TPG plan at the moment (out of contract). Great price from these guys, just not sure I really want to enter into a 12/24 month contract with them to save $10 a month though (not including any setup or delivery fees - on the 12 month contract I wouldn't make any savings until after the 11th month). They have had some pretty dodgy feedback over at Whirlpool as well which makes me cautious.

Ideally I'd like to go onto the TPG Home phone +unlimited, but the change over process is ridiculous and having to pay a setup fee even though you are an existing customer sucks. I read a post saying they are trying to sort a work around for both those things with Telstra, but no ETA on when that will be (if ever).

  • We had MyNetFone at home as a cheap telephone option to call OS. This came down and used our ADSL2+ (TPG). Don't know if it was TPG or our copper Telstra line or MyNetFone, but calls were horrible. There was a delay and a huge echo when speaking. It was like being in a cave. MyNetFone had no answer to the problem. Setup was great before MyNetFone. Anyway, just my two cents for people considering this option. Looks good on paper though.

  • Even if you don't go with the naked ADSL with mynetfone, their voip service on the whirlpool saver plan has saved us a mint on phone calls. And any money we're NOT giving to Telstra is a bonus in itself. :)

No monthly fee, and 10 cents for calls to anywhere in Australia.

  • do you use get all the inclusions, is it till end of june?

  • This sounds a great deal- $49.95 for naked ADSL2+ for internet and home phone, no need for additional home phone cost. Am thinking of moving from Bigpond Cable. Been a Mynetfone VOIP user for years and very happy.

    Questions:

    1. How are people's experiences of Mynetfone ADSL2+ speeds (with their own servers) versus Optus ADSL2+, and

    2. How much slower in real life will this be compared to Bigpond Cable (30Mbps/1Mbps). I think in real life the internet speeds depends on servers and their caching more than the absolute line speed to the house.

Am thinking of signing up tomorrow and leaving Bigpond (with some sadness!) tomorrow.

    Hey guys,

Just thought I'd update this. This morning, my modem was delivered by courier to my work. When I got home, I plugged the modem into the phone socket and everything worked. Bizarrely all of this happened with no contact from mynetfone, but I don't care as it all works. Internet speeds seem fine. Haven't made any calls yet as I need to buy a phone first!!
