Telstra Prepaid 12 Month SIM $200 (150GB Data, Unlimited Calls/Text, Intl Calls to 20 Countries) @ Telstra

7320

First time posting so be gentle.
Just noticed that Telsta is trying to stay competitive with Boost etc.
Original price $300 - slashed to $200 for a 12 month Plan, with 150Gb of data. 20 Countries with unlimited international calls.
Seems to be a very good deal considering that Boost is actually more expensive (but… less data).

WHATS INCLUDED
Unlimited calls and texts to standard Australian numbers.
$100 Extra Credit for international calls and texts, roaming and premium SMS.
All inclusions for use in Australia

btw - You need to scroll down to see the offer.

Anyway, Enjoy.

  • Received Startrack delivery today.

    Expiry: 24/04/2021

  • Any ideas how many days (if any) before my telstra postpaid billing date will I need to do the port to prepaid, to make sure I wont get another bill from them? I am thinking of doing it a few working days before.

    • +1

Just port out whenever you want. Telstra confirmed they charge prorated so you only pay for what you use.

I spoke to them on chat today and ported out this afternoon

      • Great idea thanks.

    • They charge pro rata but it has been 2 days since I converted from postpaid to prepaid and it is still not fully done. So beaware. Also this sim is out of stock at the moment. I am left out of nowhere lol.

    • +1

      "Port to prepaid"

Better to port out to Kogan (VF is very quick), then port back to this deal. But buy the deal first.

Currently have a change from Telstra Post Paid to Prepaid - for the $140 Boost deal - and it still hasn't gone through after 5 hours. Port out then port back in would have been much quicker

  • Thanks Op, just wait for new stock and purchase.

    • Waiting too. Hope it comes back soon

  • I dont get how they can be out of stock, its just a top up it is not a psychical thing is it. They could send out any old sim

    • +1

It's a physical sim, a new one. Not a topup

      • +1

so the $300 $200 value is attached to the physical sim? unlike Kogan, where they use voucher and we can use any blank sim card?

        • +1

Yup. That's what Telstra rep told me. It's attached to the sim. There is no voucher.

  • I have never ported a number before, how does it actually work… surely it cant just be give them your number else you could just port someone else out just for fun

    • if you know their DoB and Name, then that's pretty much it.

      • Wow that seems a pretty low bar.

        • +1

but the owner will get notification that there's a request to port out to Telstra/Kogan/Vodafone/Optus et al and if you're the one that initiated this porting, please ignore otherwise contact us immediately.

    • It will be ported under the same owner/same name. You will need date of birth and mobile number. Account number as well if porting from a postpaid plan.

  • +3

I just received this sim in the mail. Can confirm it is a $300 starter pack, with an expiry of 24/04/2021

    • Lucky you.
Rep told me today they don't know when it will be restocked. :(

      • I purchased it as soon as I saw the deal, i don’t need it for about a month anyway. When the deal was first posted there were a few people holding off thinking it will always be available. Now the waiting game begins for those that missed out

    • Yep mine also arrived today. $300 starter pack. Now the fun begins with porting my Telstra monthly over to this.

  • I just thought of something… the sim starter pack is $300 of credit down to $200.

The $300 gives 150gb and 12 months expiry which is currently on offer. The sim doesn’t expire until April 2021.
Let’s say in a years time telstra changes the prepaid offers and $300 gives 80gb instead of 150g or 6 month expiry (as an example)

That means the sim is $300 credit only and subject to whatever the $300 offer provides at the time of activating, correct?

Some people may be assuming when it comes March 2021 they expect 150gig.

    • +1

Yes, you are right, the starter pack just has its value, you just activate and get the inclusion whatever it has for $300

  • Initially I was thinking to hold back till August as 'Out of stock' never crossed my mind. I mean, how can Telstra can go out of stock for sims.

I am glad I just bought it out of nowhere and got it delivered today. Exp 4/2021.

Best of luck to those who left out!

  • Sold out. Is this going to be restocked?

    • I hope so. I am hoping to get one.

    • don't worry, Telstra await your money.

  • +1

Eh if they don't bring in more stock by Monday I'm just going with boost.

    • -1

      ok

    • same.
Just have to make sure I remember that before boost sells out in two days.
      or…
is Boost going to be sold out too

      • Is there any boost deal currently?

        • yes 140$ boost with 80gb/yr at Coles.
just bought it from coles Reservoir. tbh kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on telstra offer sooner, I guess I didn't think Telstra would run out of Sim cards 10 days before offer ends :/

  • I know it says "online only" but has anyone tried at a Telstra store to see if they can sell or match it?

EDIT: Can you also port your number from another telco (vodafone, optus, etc) to this offer?

      1. Not yet
      2. Sure you can
      1. No
      2. Yes
    • Have tried. First thing they told me it was online only offer.

  • any update, boys and girls?

    • +2

Gets worse - spoke to Telstra chat moments ago.

After quoting an ETA for replenishment stock of 31/7 - 2/8 last week - they now claim no ETA from supplier. Not sure that they have any idea to be honest.

Also asked re in-store given extended stockout and categorical "it will be $300"

Others with more relevant professional experience may have a view on whether it is getting close to breaching Consumer Law from a reasonable quantities and / or bait and switch aspect. Persistent advertising of discounted $200 recharge during extended stockout and limiting to single channel / withholding of extensive alternate stock supply feels somewhat risky in my mind.

Hopefully it will just randomly have the stock replenished over the next couple of days with Customer Service not being any wiser.

      • Any neg votes care to chip in with a response - was trying to answer question and share what I was thinking in case others were interested.

        • +1

          i'll upvote you

      • I might buy a couple of Boosts $140 in the interim…

  • +9

Just spoke to their online support team and following is the update:

You have chosen one of our in-demand online promos. The amount of orders has been really overwhelming. In line with this, we have received a large volume of orders which had caused the product to be limited.

Nothing to worry, As of the moment, we are still waiting for the stock to be replenished that’s why the promo has been on hold for new orders.

We are already in contact with our suppliers, rest assured that our stocks will be available before August 05, 2019.

We have an update that the $300 SIM kit will be restocked between August 02, 2019 and August 04, 2019.

    • Great. Thanks for the update

    • question is: how fast will their SIM Card arrives in our mailbox?

      • Next day delivery or 2 business day for me in regional WA. The postage satchel said ‘overnight’ on it from StarTrack

    • Sounds like they will restock it at $300 - which means that I will just go with Boost, I'll hold off on my decision till confirmation but for me, it's $200 or Boost.

    • That's what I was told as well, exactly VERBATIM …. like literally word-for-word.

  • +1

why cant we just recharge the same amount from our account for existing customers?telstra need to be more flexible.

    • It’s targeted for new customers only.

      • i know that, but it is also possible to port out to a different sim and port back in to make it work for existing customers

        • Yes, that’s a way around it.

  • so annoying my optus recharge ran out today was hoping I would be on this deal by now

  • +1

I am regretting buying this deal now. Telstra are absolute, incompetent morons. 2x nights, 1:40 minutes and counting and they cannot figure out how to port an existing number from Boost. I even checked with them on chat before hand, that porting from Boost will be fine.

Turns out, you can't just port from Boost to the pre paid sim. No, no. You have to go into a store and get a blank sim. That is after proving that that is what the customer service reps said to do on the phone.

Great deal, but my god, I'm not sure if it is worth it in the end.

    • +1

Easiest way is to just port out to a diff carrier, then port back in

The reason for the issues = same carrier port: from Boost to Telstra - very manual process.

    • Thank goodness it's not just me suffering the utter shite service they call Telstra. Three phone calls, two Telstra store visits, over 80 hours and still no active mobile.

Note, Trying to port my post plan number to pre-paid, both on Telstra.

Moved from a long existing Telstra plan over to this but hey, you can't do that following the bouncing ball, you need to ring them and get someone somewhere to add the change into their system while asking you why have you done this. Their system still running on a 1 bit per second system (Where all pre-paid clients go).

The worst experience was dealing with an utter sales moron who I am sure, did nothing but try and sell me shite Telstra products. Telling me to forget my fiber to the premisis, buy a Telstra 4G hotspot and for a little extra, get a Samsung Galaxy tablet. WTF was he on I have no idea. I assume he didn't know what the NBN was.

Just annoyed. Was tempted to say @$!* it and walk over to a rival carrier. Still tempted. Saying that, I am not sure the grass is always greener on the other side. This is Australia after all.

Thanks sssbp. Simple explanation that non of the Telstra techs could tell me. All they said, up to 8 hours, then up to 24 hours then up to 72 hours…

      • Did you escalate your call to a supervisor?

I ported from postpaid to prepaid within 15 min after being dicked around by 1st tier staff.

        • The in store escalated to Telstra Sydney and I could hear that once in the system they can't touch it. From a look, some say that if it hasn't ported within 72 hours, it could have been a failed port.

Bakelite, are you saying that you had your number ported from this deal or a previous transaction?

          • +1

@Soviet: Telstra ported my number from a nearly finished 12 month contract to prepaid, I detailed this in earlier comments (near the bottom of page 4)

Then all I had to do was order the Sim, call Telstra once I had it, they would port my number to the blank Sim included in the pack.

But I never got to do the blank sim port as they sold out, however I've been told twice that's the process to sort it out.

            Hope that helps

            • @Bakelite: Yep, full scale attack this time worked though I held back when the person on the Telstra chat was able to assist very well. I started the conversation by making a formal complaint about the person I spoke to the day before. What he had done was cancel the task in the system them put me on a pre-paid with zero credit. She said that it was not good and she would resolve the issue straight away. She did. The whole service was active and ready within 20 minutes.

So thanks for the advice to go hard on those at Telstra who are sales morons. It is true the whole process is manual, there is no special automated batch process that magically ports your number.. It's just a job queue that has to be manually processed.

Krisha from Telstra was very helpful though. Thank goodness there is at least one useful person working there.

  • any update, boys and girls?

    • Erick: But as long as you have ordered it before 5th of Aug. You are still able to get that $200 online promo.

    • Erick: Our latest update here is actually the same. It will be on stock before the promo ends (5 Aug).

  • Has anyone had had their order lost? I received a confirmation email but Telstra never sent me my SIM…and they cant find the order in their system :/

    • Yeah, that's a pain in the arse. Though Telstra had promised me they would fix the problem so it didn't happen to future customers. 😕

Long story short, you have to play live chat roulette until you find a guy who can offer you a full refund.

Let me know how you go.

      • Ah damn, so a refund is the only solution they offered? How do they even manage to refund you if they can't find your order?

        • Yes, he processed the refund after I gave him the order number off the confirmation email that I offered to forward to him as proof. I had bought 2 SIM packs off this promo so he could see the previous purchase in my account that did complete successfully.

To even get to this stage, the first live chat person told me he couldn't find the order in the system and gave me a number to ring. The Telstra person on the phone told me they don't deal with online orders, insisted there's no department to transfer me to and referred me back to live chat. Back on live chat I went through a few more people who were either incompetent or didn't want to deal with a difficult problem (or both) including one who told me to file a PayPal claim. Until finally this guy who was also the first person to have a full grasp of English mind you.

After I explained the hoops I had to jump through, he got his manager to approve to credit me the $30 if I were to buy a $2 SIM pack. He seemed sympathetic, and somehow I managed to sweet talk him into just crediting the $30 onto my existing prepaid service lol. Good luck!

They promised me they would escalate the missing order problem to get fixed too. 🙄

          • @Junk Sifter: Ah wow, what a headache!

Thanks for the thorough message! Will let you know how I go.

  • Looks like this is gone now.
The prepaid plan page has been updated which still says out of stock but the 'Online SIM offer now $200' banner has disappeared.

  • +11

Hi all, Probably most of you might have left the thread as the sim is out of stock.. however wanted to point out that with "$200" recharge for the year you not only get 150gb but as an online promotion u get additional $50gb. I think u will need to request this via chat and doesnt get added automatically to the service.
I had that chat and 50gb was added so now its 200gb.

    • Thanks, that's awesome. Where can I see the bonus 50gb data stated? When does it end?

      • +2

I actually saw it when tyring to activate it online (from your mobile and u goto telstra.com/activate).. but as u near to the final steps it disappears.
Hence i took that opportunity to chat with online rep and get it added. (take a screenshot of it if u can, it's a fine print on top right hand corner when choosing your prepaid recharge amount).

ab: i recently like last week or so moved from optus to telstra on a 12 month offer of $300 recharge
ab: it was when i was signing up to activate that data was 150gb and + 50gb for online promotion but i never ended up getting that additional 50gb though when i was signing up it was there, can u please advise
        Dannabel:

No worries. You have reached the right person to help you out with this one.

        Dannabel:
I have checked here and its only 1gb of data. Let me apply the 43gb additional to completed the 50gb data bonus.

        Dannabel:
Are you good with that resolution?

        • Thanks!

        • Thanks so much for sharing! Confirm this worked for me. Awesome!

    • +3

Yeh I noticed that last night as well. Took a screen shot of it just Incase. I’m still waiting for my services to show up in my account so I can’t confirm if it’s been applied yet.

      • care to share your screenshot so that others (i.e. myself) can also try to get the bonus 50gb?

    • IF YOU CAN SHARE SCREENSHOOT. They ask only proof. No luck but if i could share screenshoot , they will apply.

  • +1

This my latest chat with Telstra and it looks like it may not come back before 5th Aug.

Krisha Ann Marie at 11:36, Aug 2:

The promo ends in 05 Aug. And, As of the moment, we are still waiting for the stock to be replenished that’s why the promo has been on hold for new orders. Once the item is out before 05 Aug, yes the price will still be the same.

Krisha Ann Marie at 11:38, Aug 2:

We are now speeding the replenishment of the item os it can be out again in the market

Krisha Ann Marie at 11:42, Aug 2:

I understand that,I apologise for this one. Due to large volume of orders it has caused the product to be limited. Nothing to worry as even the promo end, Telstra is making a new offer that you can avail.

    • Strange.. the chat I had 3min ago assured me it will be restocked before 5th. I guess no one knows for sure.

      • Yeah, it is very strange. I now got a feeling like they don't want to sell anymore for 200 bucks.

  • +2

Spoke to a helpful Telstra Online Support Agent and he has given the below alternate solution:

As the $200 sim promotion online is still out of stocks you can contact them today and if you purchase $150 sim and recharged $ 50 they can apply the $300 inclusions for a total of $200 expense

You can ask a reference number to get the $300 inclusions for a total of $200 expense if you are planning to buy the SIM later.

Hope it will be helpful to some of us if the current promotion is out of stock till 5th Aug.

    • Don't you need $300 credit to get that offer? I am not sure how they will but will try with an online rep and see what he say.

    • I tried this but they said:

"I see, I am sorry for that but it is not applicable in that case. The $200 offer is for new sim cards which are purchased online."

      UPDATE: they now say:

"I am sorry for the confusion. Since you really want to have the service with Telstra, what we can recommend is to purchase a $150 SIM and recharge it for $50, which will be total of $200 as well. Once activated and recharged, we'll then apply the $200 online offer inclusion. It is not a normal process but since we appreciate your sincerity to become a Telstra customer, we can extend help with that as one time goodwill."

However: of course the payment system on the Telstra website isn't working, just says "Connecting to Braintree" and never lets you pay…

      • I can confirm I managed to get a rep who agreed to this, and provided a reference number for future reference.

Only thing I couldn’t get was the bonus 50gb, which I’m concerned may only work if you had a $300 SIM pack.

Can anyone confirm the bonus 50gb during the activation by providing some screenshot?

        Many thanks.

        • -1

Are you able to provide a reference number please?

Agent on live chat is asking for one.

          Thank you!

      • Please ask a reference number so that you can order the SIM later and quote the reference number once it is activated and recharged.

    • -1

Are you able to provide a reference number please?

Agent on live chat is asking for one.

      Thank you!

  • Did not have any luck getting the offer on $150 sim + $50 recharge. The agent I got kept saying to wait patiently. Any suggestion?

    • able to help me with ref. number and they said you can do anytime at your local store as well.

      • Do you mean activating and getting the $300 inclusion with that ref number can be done at the local store later?

        • not from local store from my understanding; i think they (the chat team) need to do it .. maybe .. i don't know.

        • From online chat team

  • Chat to customer service online was advised ‘Thanks for waiting, here's what we can do, you can get a $2 sim kit thru our Stores, get a $200 voucher and once you have it handy, chat with us and we will activate it for you, good for 12months..’ Later they asked for full name and date of birth. At the end, provided me with reference number.

    • So is your 300$ package activated now?

      • Have not buy the SIM card yet.
