is it brand new or refurbished? looks to me as it is refurbished, but there are quite a lot of misleading terms like 'brand new' and 'factory sealed'

    • it is factory sealed from Toshiba, it is refurbished by Toshiba, it is is brand new condition.
This is an A Grade condition refurbished / reconditioned laptop. B and C grade refurbished have wear
and tear. If you are in Perth and are interested you should definately come into the store and check
out the condition yourself before purchasing to verify that we are saying it is in brand new condition.

Companies on ebay are selling the same laptops as brand new when they are refurbished. If we didnt tell
you it was refurb you would never now. Electronicbazaar are selling refurb ones as brand new .

For more info into people selling them on ebay as refurb - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1231156&pā€¦

  • Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy this notebook, a Qosmio X505 is a non-Australian model.

Toshiba have toughened up on warranty for refurb models being local only. That means that if this is an American model, it only has warranty in America.

On top of this, if the part you require out of warranty is not locally stocked (i.e. identical to an Australian model), Toshiba Australia will not help you.

For this saving, or lack there of, it is totally not worth it.

A -ve for me, which I will retract if the poster can prove this is an Australian model.

    • Totally not worth it considering you can purchase a local P750 with an second generation i7 with for ~$1000 (~800 at Harvey Norman in their 30% off sale).

Although it doesn't have full HD or a bluray burner (however b-burners only cost $80 and is a cinch to install.

      • what's the average graphics card for those ~$1000 laptop?

      • The graphics card is the Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 1.5GB DDR5 - in the top 3
fastest graphic cards in the world for a laptop .

The P750 is just a standard graphics card, the replacement GTX 460 graphics card
is $1000 if you enquire with Toshiba. Trade price on the GTX 460 as a replacement
        part is around $700.

There is a cheaper Toshiba Qosmio for around $1399 with full HD , and Bluray , it only
has the Nvidia Geforce GTS 360, which completely dominates the graphics in the P750.

Toshiba P750 satellite is cheaper model, cheaper components. The qosmio
series have better quality components, hence being top of the range.

    • The extended warranty is done through a company called Mackcam - mackcam.com

We are authorised to repair the laptops in Perth, there is a local repair guy
in Sydney who is authorised. I had a faulty HDD in a Toshiba around 5 months ago,
swapped it with a brand new 500GB Western digital and he had the laptop back
within 24hours all ready to go.

Just asked for the service contract number and i got reimbursed from Mackcam.

We do most repairs in house, but motherboards and screens we need to get repaired
from our local guy Dr Laptop - West Perth , who is also authorised.

    • You are completely right - it is USA model. The Australia version is still yet to hit most retailers with
the Nvidia GTX 460. Australia means wait a while. Due to such low demand in Australia - USA gets the good stuff a lot sooner than us.

We can fix the machine locally in Perth for you, if you purchase the additioanl warranty you can get it repaired in Sydney.

All the parts are the same apart from the motherboard , which we do stock, so warranty issues is not normally a problem. We do recommend everyone to get the 3 year additional warranty , so if there is any issues the insurance company offering the warranty contracts will have to pay out of their pocket.

  • +3

you should put "REFURBISHED" on the first line of the info

    • +1. Difference between deal or not here because of the additional warranty implications.

      • If you are in Perth you can bring it back to us and we can do the repair quite easily.

If you are in Sydney, you can get it repaired there.

    • hi

yeah we will do on the next add - thanks for the advice uraha.

It does say in the add - but yeah i will put it in next time.

      Thanks buddy

  • I have an 18.4" ummm, laptop, and it is a desktop replacement. There is nothing portable about these big boys. The top of your lap gets very sore very quick.

    • If your into games then you have to go the big laptop, the graphic cards inside these things have lot
of copper for cooling, and are massive. Graphics are amazing on the other hand.
