Got one about a month ago. They are huge! $50,000 surge protection warranty.

Those warranties prob work out to a replacement board, in most real world cases.

I've got a heap of similar ones. But I've also read a bit about the claim process. Insurance, pfft.

      • I get the feeling the board would sacrifice itself (as it should) if the worst happened

But then they'd probably make the end user jump through hoops. Probably just easier to do a home contents claim.

    • yeah
there's no reason they needed to make it so big.

the main issue is it is too long on both ends with lots of wasted space..

Also no individual on/off switches for each powerpoint plug is a neg

      • Yeah it's probably one third bigger then it needs to be. Individual switches on boards I've always had failures with - 3 times with 3 different brands ranging from $30-$150. So I've gone away from that style now.

        • +1

if you got many different devices connect to it and powered on..
that single on/off switch is pretty much useless

since if you want to turn off just one device
you don't want to suddenly kill the power for all the devices at once, which is very bad..

so with these type of boards
you would need to pull out the cord and plug it back in (which is also just as bad) and can cause electrical sparks
or turn it on/off at the device switch (which can be wear out those switches or those switches are located at an inconvenient location..

They are huge! $50,000 surge protection warranty.

The connected equipment warranty is the least relevant metric to look at when buying a surge-protected powerboard. Most of those warranties will never be honoured for a start; you'll have an easier time trying to claim zero income to the ATO for the last financial year.

This model only has 900 joules of energy absorption, which is absolutely piddling for an 8 outlet board (there's travel-sized, 2 outlet powerboards with that kind of energy absorption available), and the specifications on every single website I can find omit the reaction time and clamping voltage (even on Belkin's website), which is a good indicator that they're not up to scratch.

Nothing against Belkin per se, but this model is garbage compared to the much older PureAV 7 Outlet (3,200 joules) model or the Gold Series 8 Outlet (2,700 joules). It is also excessively huge, as has been mentioned below several times, compared to almost every other 8 outlet powerboard you can find.

      • Agree, i have the older boards. Shocked how comparatively inferior this is. Not much of a deal imo.

I bought this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cabac-8-Way-Surge-Protection-Pow… for around $30 after cashback and 5% off when the sale was on. It has 3444 joules protection and is reasonably sized. The Belkin's design is a joke. I laughed out loud when I saw the squished together outlets in the middle with all that wasted space at each end.

      • +1
People who buy this board just buying for the badge, like people buying low end BMW Series 3. 8)
The premium end is REAL quality. These boards are frankly huge for no reason and have pretty similar specs to those $20 bunnings/kmart boards (spec wise).

In the old days, ALL Belkin boards had extremely high surge protection with huge $$ warranty replacement scheme. I guess they figured they could still sell millions of low spec powerboards with their brand name recognition.

        • It comes down more to availability. That being said, I don't run huge draw appliances anyway.

  • Bought one, looks good, thanks OP!

  • +1

Went to Bunnings recently. Belkin was the only quality product on the shelf. If you are plugging this many appliances into a board you don't want to f*** around. Well worth the investment. I've had some Belkin extension boards going for three years and not even a hiccup!

  • +5

only problem for this thing is the size

    • Yep, makes it hard sitting behind tv unit in a tight space.

  • +5

How does this compare to three of the $2 boards from Reject Shop daisy chained together?

      • +2

        amazing.

      • +1

i love this comment so much

    • +1

Inside those boards are poorly welded gobs of solder. They’re pretty awful and hazardous. There was a video breaking them apart and investigating what’s inside some time ago.

But to be fair I’ve never broken apart a Belkin to make sure it’s not the same…

  • +8

Onto my second one of these, first one got chocolate milk spilt on it and short circuited power to the entire house but kept everything safe. Second one still going strong 1 year or so later.

    • +11

Do you know if it performs as well with strawberry milk?

But seriously, glad you and your house are safe :)

  • Would this be better than the half price $21 Jackson woolies one?

    • +1

      Would go Belkin all day

      • Say no more.

        • +1

Jackson ones have maximum 2.1A USB to all of them, so it’s usually a scam lol. Plug more than 1 in and slows down to a standard 5W Apple brick which is SLLLOOWWW

    • I use these types of boards as my main one I travel around the country with for music. They're tough as nuts and have never caused me issues.

  • +1

I have a cheapo powerboard with six cords plugged in so this is definitely needed. Thanks, OP.

  • +2

Got a couple for ~$30 each during the last eBay Plus sale. Should have put a post up, my bad

  • Thanks OP bought 2

  • Oh crap, should have checked this earlier to combine with my catch order of power cubes. Wonder if I can add this without incurring additional deliver fee

  • +3

4 for $122.40 here with eBay Plus.

Comes to roughly $30.6/ea. Good for bulk buy :)

    • I did the same earlier. Only need to buy 2 (or more though). Get 15% off with code (ends tonight I think) plus store gives 10% discount if buying more than one.

  • +1

Thanks! Ended up buying 4. I have a crap load of the cheap boards and it's time for an upgrade

  • +1

This thing is needlessly twice the size it needs to be.

Least practical powerboard I've ever owned…

    • Built bloody well though!

    • +2

Actually bought this cuz it looks large. Most powerboards struggle to fit TP-Link HS100/110 smart plugs side by side. Hoping this does the trick.

      • +2

I bought mine for the same reason, but if you look at the spacing of the actual sockets, as opposed to all the dead space above and below, you'll see that it actually isn't any more spacious than some of the $2 compact boards you'll see around.

Granted, I know they won't have the power protection features, but if you're planning on using anything with build in transformers or even slightly bulky plugs such as the google home, you may be disappointed.

        • Ah ok that sucks. Well luckily I do need a powerboard in the kitchen area so not my worst purchase haha

      • If you are screwed just get some mini extension cords?

        • Didn't know they existed, thanks.

          • +1

@relentless: 30cm or so are about $10-15 since they are a unique product. Could find an electrician workshop who could do some custom ones?

            • @kronicmacstigator: Or just buy the right product to begin with. Honestly.

I've made a bucket load of adapters myself, mainly for travel. But ergh. Why.

              • @Ulysses31: Because finding the right product is hard in a market flooded by s**t! Seriously! Go to Bunnings, clear race to the bottom on some products. Particularly those that can be mass-produced on the cheap.

How much is the right product in this case? Might only need one small extension cord for the whole lot

  • I always have bad luck with Officeworks Pricematch, they add the cost of shipping :(

  • +1

Looks like it’s has gone on backorder now so I’ll update the post. Can still purchase under Other Sellers from Amazon for $34 but quoting 1-2 month wait.

  • Showing as $47. What do I do wrong?

    • +4

Look at the bottom right of page. Pick seller as Amazon.

      • +1

        But there's a long wait.

      • Thanks.

  • Take this to Bunnings and they'll beat it by 10%

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 2! Backorder.

  • Thanks OP

  • paid $31 in the last sale,
and it was the Belkin 6 Way Outlet i thought that was a ok deal.
    this is awesome

  • +1

This thing is huge. That's the only thing stopping me from getting a couple.

  • I have been using one in my home office for a few years. Works fine, and looks quite good too. The usb ports are very handy also.

  • Bunnings also have these will they price match better than office works?

    • Officeworks is 5%, Bunnings does 10% so worth a try.

    • I got one price matched in Office works but bloody charged my 38.90$ , they price matched original 34$ then added 6$ shipping and after took 5% off which comes to 39$. with Bunnings you may get another 2$ off :)

  • Thanks. Ordered.

  • Problem with these is as soon as you put a standby power switch thing on it, your 6 points go down to 3 real quick.

  • x4.cheers.

  • +3

I recommend this one if you want a higher joule protection rating (3,444 joules) from eBay. No wasted space either.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cabac-8-Way-Surge-Protection-Pow…

    • Don't scroll past people. This one is TW suggests is way better.

Edit: that link has sold out

    • +2
      • Oh tempting but I dun need 3 lol. Oh it's per unit. Wow that's expensive

        • No, somewhat confusingly, there are 3 per unit

          • @chymb: Ah okay. So 3 powerboards per unit for $85 is quite good price. Sucks that I dun need 3

      • Hmmm just wondering. How does that brand compare to cyberport?
I might just wait for a similar deal below.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/469323

        Much cheaper

  • +5

Have one of these, for such a huge power board, there really is piss poor spacing between each outlet, why can't manufacturers get this right?

  • 47 bucks now. Gone :(

  • For anyone interested, I picked up this Cable Management Box set, the larger one fits this giant powerboard in just fine for me.
