BMW Australia has announced a sharp drive-away deal for its M240i Coupe, which is now on sale from $74,900 drive-away.

Previously listed at $79,100 before on-road costs, the promotional offer represents a $13,000 saving (based on Victorian metro pricing), while also bolstering appeal with more equipment than before.

Additional specification includes 18-inch double-spoke M light alloy wheels, hexagon Alcantara upholstery in Anthracite/Black, 'Aluminium Hexagon' ornamentation with black high-gloss highlights, an electric glass sunroof, metallic paint, and a wireless smartphone charging pad – metallic paint and a powered sunroof previously asked for $1700 and $2700 respectively.

The wheels are available in Jet Black, bi-colour Jet Black, and Cerium Grey matte finishes, wrapped in 225/40 front and 245/35 rear tyres.

gonna broden them all off on ebay?

  • -4

    B28/NFC?

    • Yeah but you have to unlock the bootloader to install Google play store.

    • -1

I'm not even sure if this BMW runs intl ROM

  • $24,900 overpriced

    • +7

have you driven one or owned one? The only thing that makes it overpriced is the luxury car tax you have to pay.

      • -7

        yes and yes.
When the Chinese start to make comparable sports cars all the German brands will look very expensive

        • +3

Well that's the thing, over here they are waaaay overpriced yet in Europe they are only waay overpriced.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: 10 years ago there was few BM's, Audi's etc on the road and most Aussies all had regular cars.
Now they are the must-have car for all the "aspirationals" and have become as common as s**t, just like in the UK; isn't BMW in the top 5 sellers now or something.

            • +5

@alidli: Not even close tbh. Here's Q1 sales in Australia for 2018

              Toyota Hilux - 12,909
              Ford Ranger - 9662
              Mazda 3 - 8128
              Mitsubishi Triton – 7518
              Mazda CX-5 – 7118
              Toyota Corolla – 6986
              Hyundai i30 - 6222
              Mitsubishi ASX - 6167
              Toyota Landcruiser – 5557
              Mitsubishi Outlander - 4905

BMW sold 23k in the entire year, across it's entire range. That was down 2.4% on 2017.

The Chinese are going straight to electric with the intent of beating everyone there. Their government has been throwing big money at anyone starting up EV companies, offering massive subsidies and incentives for people to buy electric vehicles, installing charging stations everywhere and at the same time making it difficult to continue owning ICEs.

The largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world is BYD, a Chinese company backed by Warren Buffet.

BMW now sources their EV batteries from a Chinese company too.

        • Japanese already do, and they're more reliable.

        • +2

          What. A. Joke.

        • Thought there wasn't LCT since it's less than 75k but there is as it narrowly misses on 'fuel effecient car' defintion

      • Luxury car tax in no way explains the price difference we see on Euro marques compared to rest of world.

  • +14

Cheaper to buy a Micra and get a penis enlargement surgery than buying this.

    • +1

Your proposed option is not be enticing for the fairer sex considering the M240i..

      • +3

The surgery doesnt have to be for yourself, you could buy the surgery for a partner

    • +12

What about if you've already got a big one but want a nice car because you've got a disposable income and yolo? I wouldn't buy this particular car myself but I don't agree with hating on people because they have nicer stuff than you.

      • -2

I'd hardly call buying this car a way to use your disposable income. It's more like an investment 🤣🤣

      • +2

        Can always be bigger.

    • +4

Lol the haters. Objectively this car is more comfortable, safer, faster, better handling, better tech than your Micra.

    • +5

Do you have a link for the surgery … asking for a friend

  • +2

    M2 or nothing

    • +1

Welp, nothing it is then :'(

    • You stole MB slogan

7.1L combined form a turbo 6 is pretty amazing but way too expensive for me. ill just buy a clapped out e46

    • +1

i wouldn't believe that figure, my C43 supposedly does 8.2L but i have never managed to get it under 10.3 even with eco mode

      • Yeah my rule of thumb is add 30% to official figures. If you drive economically (I don't) you can sometimes get to within 10-15% of quoted figures. Even so, 7.1L as an official figure is still darn good.

        • Okay so I see these comments all the time. Every car I have owned, I have been able to get below the reported combined figure. I don't know how you guys are driving, but it ain't good if you can't get close to it.

          • @[Deactivated]: Wow, really? Are they Euro cars or Jap? High performance or normal cars?

            I'm curious.

            • @imurgod: @imurgod Yes, really! The three cars I've had where I've been conscious of the fuel economy etc have been:

              Honda Jazz
              Honda Civic
              Subaru Outback

I currently have the Outback, and the combined economy rating is something like 9L/100km, I'm usually sitting at about 8.

They are all Japanese, but I had a BMW as my first car and though I didn't keep track of it specifically, I don't remember it being worse than expected on fuel.

          • @[Deactivated]: you must drive like a nanna. i stomp on the loud pedal until i reach the speed limit.

      • 10.3!??? That's frugal. I can't get mine anywhere near that figure. It's just too tempting to floor it!

        • Oh the temptation is very real - i think 98 makes it more efficient ?

          • +1

@paraneoplastic: Nah it is the other way! 91 makes it lame and asking for more service. Europe has 96 as standard and 98 as super. In other words: Pulp it before you pimp it!

          • @paraneoplastic: I only ever use 98. It's the minimum RON isn't it? or is it 95? Either way, I only feed her 98.

  • +9

    This or Bose QC35 II?

    • +3

bose + ps4 + gran turismo + logitech steering wheel

      • Gran Turismo? iRacing master race

  • +2

Nice car, very good drive. Price is a bit borderline. If I was shopping for BMW coupe, I think would be tempted to get a second hand M2 instead.

    • Yes this is very true

    • a manual M2 Competition would be instant classic.

  • Same engine as the new Supra. Pretty decent BFYB!

    • Apparently the Japanese engineers didn't get the memo and Supra actually has 40bhp more @ 380 lol.

      • +1

Because Japanese manufacturers have never understated power figures before

  • +2

    not 499, disappointed

  • +3

I am expecting comments from some members who have just graduated and wanting to get into banking industry….somewhere along the lines as “it’s a great investment”.

    • +4

It's not a deal to you. Maybe it's a deal to someone on 200k a year.

      • -7

As people said above, you should never pay RRP, BMWs have trash return when selling secondhand.

        GREAT DEAL GUIS!!

Ps: neg me all you want, still can't name one person who has actually bought a car posted here.. ever.

My point stands, not a deal.

        • +1

Generally every vehicle at has poor resale.
If fact most things. I purchased a Big Mac meal yesterday and found out it is worth nothing today, that is 100% depreciation in 24hours. Won’t be burnt again, going to buy KFC next time.

Brands with best resale value after three years/60,000km

          1. Land Rover/Range Rover - 61 per cent
          2. BMW - 58 per cent
          3. Porsche - 58 per cent
          4. Subaru - 56 per cent
          5. Toyota - 55 per cent
          6. Audi - 54 per cent
          7. Jeep - 54 per cent
          8. Mazda - 54 per cent
          9. Mini - 54 per cent
          10. Mercedes-Benz - 53 per cent

    • How about you post some deals. I can see you contribute alot to ozbargain with your comments.

      • -1

I've tried but couldn't figure out how to post on phone, I very rarely use pc deals are expired or already posted by then

  • Can buy a really good car with the money lost on first year of deprecation.

    • Sounds like there could be some good second hand deals in 12 months.

      • Seeing more and more repossessed luxury cars for sales at auctions.

Probally can get one of these for 40-50k mark in a year. Now that a good deal

  • Thanks OP. Purchased 5 !

  • I have a m240i.

    Would bang again.
Great car … but you really don’t get to give it the full boot in the nanny state.

    • EXXXXACTLY, what's the point in fast 0-100, super high top speeds and massive depreciation; prefer to buy an ordinary car and buy a 2nd classic weekend car with the money saved.

      • While I agree with you on your first point. I believe there is little purpose in ‘sports’ cars particularly ‘super-sports cars’ for the general public. For the average person, you are better off with just a small front wheel drive hatchback, perfect balance of zip / fun, running costs & value, all while being able to carry 5 if you need it to.
If you have kids, maybe a SUV if you feel safer.

Classic cars however, I see them as death-traps. That’s always the first thought that comes to mind when I see one.

I don't know, I have an ND MX5, manual roadster. Its honestly the funnest car experience I've ever had. It feels great on warm days but most importantly, it drives fantastically and is a hoot to fang around. Makes you feel like you're going twice the speed limit so you can always drive it hard. On top of all that, its mileage is decent for a daily driver (6.4L on 95-98 Oct). It does remind you that its an affordable car though since the interior is full of so much plastic.

          • +1

            @sheepdog: Yep.
It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.

          • @sheepdog: I have a soft-spot for the MX5 (older model). A mechanic I used to frequent told me about their experience driving one they borrowed from a friend, while their own car was in the shop.
They described it just as you have, drives like a go-kart, low to the ground so you feel as-if you are going much faster (top down and wind in face also helps here).
Ordinary amount of power so you are having fun while staying within the speed limit.

    • it's just a matter of finding appropriate B roads in Australia.
I have no problems here in Perth…Had to install a JB4 to get a little more torque and HP.

  • +1

I'll buy a used M240i instead if i'm in the market, for the straight 6/RWD. To me performance cars are never bargains, they cost double to the entry level models.

  • +1

How does this compare to a Camry?

    • +1

Camry is cheaper and fits more stuff in it.

      • +1

You need to factor in all costs.

For example with the Camry you need to factor in the cost of adding elbow patches to all your jackets.

have a 2016 m235i myself. paid 34k after trading in a 2006 325i for 8.5k, so listed price was 42.5k. This was in Oct 2018.
74.9k for a 2020 driveaway is great value for a car of this calibre, no brainer if you're a car enthusiast.

Still puts a smile on my face everytime I jump in my baby.

    WORTH IT.

    • How many Ks did you have on the car? Only 8.5k off the list price for trading in a 06 325i? Even for an E90, that's sounds like a pretty bad deal.

      • +4

it was an e92 coupe with 150k on the clock. Due for a major service. The rocker gasket cover was leaking and spark plugs needed replacing which would've set me back another $1.3k. Also rear tyres needed replacing, probably another $500 as I had michelin sports on.

Plenty of e92s listed on gumtree from 9-15k so 8.5k without the hassle of getting it serviced and having to deal with tyre kickers on gumtree is good value to me.

  • Disappointed that I've been beaten to the Broden comments. Gotta be quick, like Broden.

  • +2

This a legitimately a good car, sits in a sweet spot. Looks better than the M140i while retaining a more sleeper look, and quite a bit cheaper than the M2.

  • Thanks OP, bought 1, but did not get the Samsung SSD!!

  • Lovely car, should sell like hot cakes

  • +8

What advantages does this motorcar have over say, a train, which I could also afford?

    • +2

I believe this vehicle does not require tracks?

    • This has less chewing gum stuck to the seats and less crazy people randomly getting in and out!

    • I think buying a train would be several times more expensive than a car… I wish I was in that kind of position lmao

    • I would go the train.

Danny Gonzalez explains how awesome the train option is…..

    • you dont have to share

    • Shaking my head no one has gotten the reference yet

    • Where’s the big grill?

  • any cheaper 220i option?

  • +6

Just bought two thanks OP. This is a great high yield investment with the ROI exceeding high yield equities and real estate, buying a 2020 BMW in 2019 is definitely a great investment even if you can't afford it! Leveraging investments can help maximise returns, don't forget to claim capital losses further reducing cost.

    • +1

Congrats! The cap rates on these are sure to compress further. Please update us bi-annually via forums on any progress on the capital value appreciation or rental income growth for these cars.

  • bargain. i ordered 2 of em

Does it come with jousting poles?

    • only if you trade in your old chicken coop
