[SYD] $5 LaCie iamaKey 4GB USB

320

Walked into Cash Converters (Church St, Parramatta) and found this gem.
These are NEW/SEALED for those thinking they're used.
Bought about 10 so far and there were 50 or so lined up!
You can try your luck at other Cash Converters, but it may only be the Parramatta store.

If you don't know what they are: http://www.lacie.com/au/products/product.htm?id=10531
They usually go for about $20-30 for 4GB.

  • Sturdy metal key design
  • Water- and scratch-resistant connector
  • LaCie Private-Public encryption software included
  • 4GB of Wuala online storage for 2 years
  • Design by 5.5 Designers

    you can get new ones for $5-$6, i don't consider a used one for $5 a bargain…

Getting anything from crack converters second hand for the same price as the same object brand new is, relatively speaking, a bargain.

      • +3

        lol

    • +1

Where exactly? Shopbot has it $17 cheapest and they're not even in stock.

      • +10

I forgot to mention that these are NEW and SEALED in that shit plastic packaging you can never break.

        • +5

SEALED in that shit plastic packaging you can never break.

          lol… so true……

You might want to mention in the description then that these are NEW, i just assume all their stuff is used…

        • +2

that shit plastic packaging you can never break

It's getting to the point where you need bolt-cutters to get through some of the packaging these days!

i meant 4GB usb sticks in general, not specifically the LaCie ones…

OW has been selling 4Gb sticks for around $6 for months now…

        • +3

I agree, USB sticks are cheap these days. I haven't been able to find this specific one (key design) for cheap until I walked into the store.

        • +6

you are essentially buying the design of this product, not for the fact that it is 'just another 4GB USB.

        • +1

if u want a bmw u dont go out and buy a datson

  • +16

Ah cash converters, the only place you can offload ~50 stolen thumb drives without suspicion :P

    • +2

No questions asked. Cash in hand on the spot.

      • +2

        Yeh, probably $5 for 50.
and the 'manager' will casually walk past and comment how that black is so last season's color

  • Anyone tried at other Cash Converters>

Harvey Norman are selling Toshiba 4GB USB flash drives for $5

    • Are they silver and look like a normal key? I think not.

  • Mln has the Toshiba 4gb usb for $3 each. Limit 1 per person though, as I was told.
HN in the newspaper has a limit of 2 per cust for the Tosh.

Looking to buy a whole heap for work.
Officeworks looks like the way atm.

  • that's a bargain, unfortunately it's store specific and sydney only =[

  • good price, i paid $28 for the same thing a few weeks ago. overpriced, but great products

$5 is cheap as. buy all of them and sell on ebay

    • what fool pays $28 for 4gb stick?
      ebay sells 16GB for $5

      • +11

        Gerard48.

      • +5

Brand? Design? Why do people blow a wad of cash on MacPros?

      • +2

Don't buy flash memory from eBay unless you know what you're doing.

It's swarming with false capacity drives. If you buy a 16GB flash drive from eBay for $5 you will get scammed, even though the seller probably has good feedback.

  • That is a bargain.

The Lucie product even created a new class of fakes.

    Here's the 4GB copy from Staples at $8.99 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47509

  • $5 is cheap but might not be there after its been posted here.

  • +2

Do yourself a favour and check this out before lumping it with any other el cheapo plastic flash drives. The LaCie iamaKey and CooKey are the real deal - at least for those who would like to stick one on their keychain.

  • @ OP.

If you've got a spare you care to sell and post to Victoria, I'd be happy to reimburse you. Overpriced at the original price but at $5? No-brainer.

    • Sorry, mate. I got them and shared them with friends and family. Perhaps someone here can help you out.

      • +1

I figured I don't need to go get one because I fit into this category. I will be expecting this USB. :)

  • +1

Saw it at officeworks - go and pricebeat it for $4.75 :) provided of course cash convertors parra still has stock left?

    • +1

From past experiencese, OW are going to be super tight able price matching something not in a catalogue.

  • +5

The only time I've wandered into a Cashies is to look for my car stereo after my car got broken into. Found it, too.

They overcharge for rubbish you can buy new for less, and they give a pittance for secondhand good you'd like to sell. The only stuff in there is hot.

    • So what happened?? Did you call the cops?

  • Just got 5…. awesome deal

  • Hey guys
    komi

any more available at parra? i wanna head down now lol

    • Picked up 10 this morning, they had about ~40 or so left im guessing, just did a HDTach test and Read Speeds showing 18MB/s and HDTune shows 15MB/s, a little disappointed, thought they did 30Mb/s……

      • I bought a Imation 4gb for $6.20 from Officeworks.
Hdtune read speed is around 18-20MB.

    • They have plenty in stock…

  • Isn't there some sort of policy about listing stolen goods on ozbargain?

    • +1

but can you CONFIRM that it is stolen?

  • Just bought 10 for $50!thanks boys !!!

    • Looks like it. Shame, hopefully people are able to grab the bargain before people start making profit off it.

      • None left when I went there at about 15:30 today.

      • Agree…

  • Too bad its sold out :( I used to have one on a keyring that stolen. really miss it.

  • So it looks like Broden is out.
