why was that comment negged? I must've missed something.

      • +4

Yeah because Mathsnerd has double his total.

    • I don't see westfield listed as a participating merchant.

    • +2

they made it an increasingly embarrassing battle every year to get GCs… do you guys have the same feeling that puts you off?

      • Yes same feeling and then they got too greedy by only letting you purchase $50 gc at a time and charge $2.95 each!

        • I didn't know they have gone so far to charge you $2.95 for each $50?! that is ridiculous…

          • @fan8956: It’s $2.95 per card, max $995. Obviously most people would like to put say $200 on a card and pay with four Amex cards as a split transaction, but with Westfield changing the rules every day of the promotion …

            • +2

              @kerfuffle: It's $500 now

            • @kerfuffle: I am at Melbourne and haven’t heard of that so far. Is it this year new rule? Is the rule only for Amex offer period?

              • +2

@fan8956: You being in Melbourne means that even if Westfield were participating this year (which they're not), there would be no participating Westfield as there isn't one in the city, unlike Sydney.

Looks like they've changed the limit since I last bought a Westfield gift card in September; thanks hellohello123 for clarifying

                • @kerfuffle: oh, sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you meant David Jones was charging $2.95 for each card because I know you work in DJ :P

It is getting harder and harder to get GC from DJ and Myer

                  • +2

@fan8956: Nothing hard about getting gift cards from Myer and DJs. Just be prepared for shitty sales assistants who try prevent you from buying with multiple Amexes as they claim you won't get the credit (hi, Myer!), or sales assistants who muck up your transactions and can't reverse it without someone else stepping in (hi, DJs!)

Also for the record, I no longer work for DJs as of October last year (which is why for once I could +1 this deal)

                    • @kerfuffle: Oh, will remove you from the DJ consultant list :) Yeah, you got to be well prepared for the battle before you can get some GCs.

            • @kerfuffle: Hey Kerfuffle, do you know how westfield asked for ID check last year? If I bring the ID of another cardholder would they still let me?

              • @alanyang: I don't work for Westfield, nor have I ever worked for them, so I can't answer your question.

  • +12

This comment should be stickied or mentioned in the OP because I mentioned it like a dozen times in last year's thread:

No, you can't use the Amex offer in the suburbs because this event is to promote shopping in the city.

    • +3

But I like complaining about things that don't really matter!

      • Maybe ring the ACCC :D

    • But my suburb is a city.

      • well said Jimbo!!

      • Parramatta?

      • But it's Amex's call which suburb is a city.

      • +4

No one means Frankston or Parramatta when they say they're going to the city to shop. Especially DJs Parra; such a hole and embarassing since it's Sydney's second CBD/the heart of Sydney

    • Hey Kerfuffle,

Do DJs do split payments for things like this? Like can I make a $150 purchase and split it to use the offer on 3 cards? would be easier than buying 3 $50 gift vouchers and purchasing.

      Thanks

      • +3

Yes, but please go when it's quiet and be prepared that someone will muck up the transaction and accidentally put it through as cash, and not know how to reverse it.

Alternatively, if it's gift cards, you can buy them all separately, then ask Customer Services to consolidate them.

Source: ex-DJs staff; seen it all (but I'll still be at Vogue Amercian Express Fashion Night Out!)

        • Good to know they can consolidate them after the fact. So I can buy a whole bunch of $50 giftcards separately at DJs then go back after a couple of weeks to customer services and then ask them to consolidate to one big card?

I just noticed a few weeks back that I can only use 5 gift cards when paying for my online order. Any more and it says I've reached the limit. I don't recall hitting limit before but perhaps it's because I hadn't tried to spend so much in one order before. Do you know if this limit has always been in place or its new?

        • DJ has sent out memo not allowing to consolidate giftcard many months ago since the last Ultimate Hers promotion at Coles, such a stupid and annoying decision. Some staffs will do it for you but many won't do it so just a warning.

          • @samehada: That memo must have came out after October.

Just buy a gift card with the Ultimate Gift Card, then considate your DJs Gift Cards. You sound like you were trying to buy a $100 gift card (for example) and pay $50 with the Ultimate card and $50 with a DJs gift card, in which case I can see why DJs staff wouldn't do it because it's fiddly.

Make it easier for the staff, and they'll be more willing to help you out.

            • @kerfuffle: The memo not allowed to buy gift card using gift card even though the Ultimate Hers is and EFTPOS type card also not allowed. Very stupid, ppl moving Ultimate Hers to DJ which will in the end spend in DJ yet they do not allow it.

So if you want to consolidate DJ gc, be prepared to get rejected. You may have to try your luck with another staff.

  • No Priceline this time around :(

  • Can some find the manual link please?

    • +3

No one will have any manual link until the 22nd.

      • +1

        Thanks mate!

  • +1

I'll be overseas anyone think of a way around? Ie ringing up the store and buying something for pickup later?

    • Could try that with David Jones but dunno about picking it up weeks after you paid for it …

  • +1

No Westfield Gift cards this year?

    • +1

Seems like it; can't find it under Lifestyle or both genders fashion (Myer is there though for your Coles Myer gift cards)

      • +4

I can't find coles myer Gift cards in the store, they seem to only have Myer gift cards now!

        • Interesting 🤔

Guess I'll grab Google Play gift cards or something to go with the Myer gift cards for my Clinique and Dior GWPs

    • Probably after the all the headaches the westfield giftcard booths go through every year they requested to be taken off this

      • +9

I think they gave themselves the headache by making everyone provide id and making them purchase only $50 Gift cards etc…so they could make more on their fees!

    • -2

I've just checked the list and I do see Wesfields Gift Card under the Lifestyle section (after selecting Sydney location?)

  • AMEX Lounge in Sydney seems to be Pitt St mall for anyone wondering.

    • It's always been there …

      • +1

I moved from interstate, so I wasn't sure.

        • +1

Time to change your profile to Sydney then!

          • +1

@kerfuffle: Ew no I'm a Melbournian through and through!

            • +6

@Ghost47: Move back to Melbourne then if your opinion of Sydney is that poor?

            • @Ghost47: Don't you people spell it Melburnian? That's how the Age spells it.

  • +1

    Noob question:

To take advantage of this offer, I can buy a $50 dollar gift card from each of the two David Jones outlets (in Sydney) and the Myer outlet, and I would then get $60 back from Amex ?

    • +3

That usually works. It did last year.

    • I would then get $60 back from Amex ?

      $40 back, no?

      • David Jones in Sydney counts as two stores (in the past anyway, no idea about this year) so $60

        • eh? You buy 2 x $50 cards … get 2 x $20 back = $40, but the net cost is $60?

          • +2

@salmon123: One card from DJs Elizabeth Street, $20 credit
One card from DJs Market Street, $20 credit
One card from Myer Sydney City, $20 credit

            Last time I heard, $20*3 is $60.

  • Hm, would different branches of MECCA Cosmetica be considered as two separate retailers if it hasn't explicitly been called out in the T&Cs?

    • Any additional locations of the listed VAEFNO retailers are not valid for the offer.
Seems like the answer is no unfortunately..

  • Purchases at David Jones exclude self-service gift card kiosks.

Ah, what? Never seen one of these before.

    • There's one on Level 4 in the women's store on Bourke Street Mall last I checked at Customer Services. They exist to print personalised messages on the gift card for $4.95 per card.

Might be one on Ground floor at the Concierge counter?

  • -1

This will work on Davidjones and Myer giftcards yea ? I bought the Hue bulbs with this deal last year.

  • I would love to attend the one in Sydney but unfortunately can't. So from what date can we buy those gift cards from the actual City stores in Sydney?

    • +1

August 29; registrations open on August 22

      • VOGUE AMERICAN EXPRESS FASHION'S NIGHT OUT OFFER TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
You can save the offer to your eligible Card from 22/08/201

I know the registration date is written on the OP deal description and mentioned by you twice.
I can't find the registration date on the above Go To Deal link. Do you have the link?

        • +1

No, because as I repeatedly mentioned (and if you read the comments), registrations aren't open until the 22nd and thus no one has the link to register

  • l can't see westfield? they remove themselves for gift cards this year onward?

  • Hang on… no Coles Myer gift cards at Myer anymore?? 😳

    • +3

I was in the MYER Melbourne CBD store today. There were Coles Myer gift cards available.

      • +1

Good news. I will try and check Sydney CBD Myer tomorrow.

        • +1

Sydney CBD has got Coles Myer Gift Cards saw a bunch on level 6 near the lego section

          • @angad596: I was in Myer just then. Checked at the desk near all the LEGO on level 6 and could not see any Coles Myer gift cards on either side of it. Only regular Myer and some other assorted crap.

            This is in Sydney CBD

      • Great news, thank you!

  • so for a melbournite whos never been to one these things,

is the buying of westfield cards not possible?

the other option for gift cards is to go to DJ melb and buy $50 x 3, and then Myer melb and buy $50 x 3???

    • There's no Westfield in the city. Your equivalent is Emporium (but they've never participated)

Also unless you have three Amex cards, you can't buy three Myer cards and three DJs cards.

      • I have multiple amex cards :)

but it says up to three times? is it 3 times at different sellers?

just trying to see what I can do to get the best value , ideally gift cards is the best for me, as Idont shop at DJ or myer too often

      • +2

Emporium did participate the very first year, got 4 $50 gift cards which could be used anywhere in the Emporium but they haven't done it since.

  • Does Muji sell gift cards?
