Unfortunately not a lot of good flight options from Canberra. Makes the free flights less attractive

    • +1

      Drive/catch a train to Sydney

    • Combine with these cheap bus fares to Sydney.

    • +1

The $225 annual fee is still a heck of a lot cheaper then CBR-MEL or CBR-SYD return! I previously had to go to Sydney for a SYD-PER trip but it was well worth the savings imo.

  • Any idea if there is an exclusion period? I cancelled a normal anz card about 2 years ago

    • -1

Looks like the only exclusion is if you’ve held this same card within the last 12 months.

      Edit: I’m wrong.

Not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months.

      • +1

You are looking at the ANZ Black Card exclusions. This card's exclusion is 12 months only if you have held the ANZ travel adventures previously

        • You’re right.

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card within the previous 12 months

  • Did they ask for the velocity number during the application process? mine didnt

  • Is the flight restricted to just the cardholder only?

    • Found the fine print

Offer available to ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures primary cardholders who have made $500 of net eligible purchases within three months of approval. One complimentary flight is available to the primary cardholder each year until the card is cancelled.

That really lessens the deal for me.. Was going to use the flight for my parents, since they travel interstate for weddings. If I travel interstate, I've got to take the wife and kids!

      • in a similar situation.

Thinking of a day trip to uluru by myself.

      • even if you're a family of 4, your airfare can be free

  • Got rejected on the similar but Qantas point offer couple months back. Any point of trying again?

  • Any idea if the travel insurance in this is any good?

    • IMO yes. However I would suggest reading the PDS.

  • First year is always without annual fee, right?

  • Applied last night, still no email. Anyone else not get one?

    • I got an email telling me to upload document to prove my income (payslips etc) right after I clicked Submit.

Have had this card for three years and living in Perth has made it incredibly valuable.

Besides the complimentary flights though, the best feature of the card is interest/fee free ATM withdrawals overseas when the card has a positive balance. Did a worldwide trip last year and didn't have to pay any fees to convert and withdraw cash in any country, unless charged by the actual ATM itself.

    • Did you have to use specific bank ATMs overseas for the fee free withdrawal?

      • Nope, was able to use any ATM in the world. As long as it is located in another country and you don't withdraw any more than the positive balance then there are no fees at all.

        • Were the forex rates close to mid-market or much higher for your transactions?

          • @dealmaker: The card uses the Visa rate, so it's quite comparable to the official rate considering there are no conversion fees

    • +1

I've had this card for almost a year, and never knew about the ATM withdrawals with +ve balance…would have come in handy quite a bit!

    • we're on the same boat.. had the card for 3yrs and living in WA.. used the card all the time when overseas.. definitely no foreign transaction fees even the card is not on positive balance.. just have to pay the full balance on statement on time :)

      • +1

It has definitely saved us so much money in international fees. You're right, foreign transaction fees always have no fees, but overseas ATM withdrawals need a positive balance to avoid fees and interest.

    • So you're saying you actually pay over your credit limit? Why not just citibank plus account?

      • Because this card offers a free domestic return flight, which for me living in Perth more than offsets the annual fee, and allows me to accumulate velocity points through ANZ rewards.

        • but ciitbank plus is free anyway, just a transaction acc..

          • @Lancerx: I fly domestically at least a couple of times a year. A return flight from Perth to anywhere on Virgin is usually well over $225. Therefore this card actually saves me money despite the annual fee, not to mention the complimentary lounge passes provided with the free return flight

            • -1

@CallumT: I know that..I'm just referring to purely the statement about withdrawing money from ATM…you could do it much easier with citibank plus, rather than having a positive balance in cc

    • Technically wouldn't all overseas ATM charge an ATM fee? I know ING Direct has been amazing handling overseas ATM withdrawal as they give you everything back. I'm guessing you don't get any points for withdrawing money from an ATM right?

      • Surprisingly most ATMs throughout Asia that we used did not charge any fee at all. Thailand was perhaps the only country that we couldn't find a fee free ATM anywhere. Everywhere else seemed to have at least one bank which had no fees.

Yes you're right, no points at all for withdrawals.

    • Why would you use a credit card for withdrawals? ING account reimburses fees even charged by the ATM (have to do 4 transactions/month though which is a bit of an annoyance)

  • If I'm an additional card holder for someone who has this card, does this rule me out from being able to earn the Velocity Points if I apply for my own card?

  • +1

I've been debating about jumping onto a points credit card (due to monthly spending) with no international transaction fees etc. Currently use bank west zero platinum. Worth while switching to this and canning the bank west? How does visa currency rates compare to mastercard?

    • Worth having both - some travel websites will e.g. charge no fee for MCard credit, or none for Visa credit, etc.

      • However will affect borrowing amount if going for a loan, having the 2 cards.

        • Yes. You work out what’s more important for you

  • Hi Guys, how does the travel insurance work? Lets say for flights/accommodation - do I have to use this card to be eligible for the insurance or I can use other form of payments and still will be covered?
    Thanks

    • +1

No travel cover on this card if you don't use this card, same as all other cards.

  • Does anyone know if the exchange rate on this one is as good as 28 degree's one?

  • +2

I kept this card due to no international fees, and I kept using the flight to visit a mate in Canberra.

Flights are normally $330-450 return, so the flight is worth the card fee.

Only a touch annoying that it's 2 months ahead!

I was looking at the Bankwest card tho, so might cancel this for 12 months.
I can also apply for the ANZ Black right?

  • What is considered a year for free flight Jan1st to Dec31st?

    • No, the date you get the card til the renewal date.

  • Just an FYI. I'm used to online Lounge passes with QFF. These are old fashioned in the post job. Booked a flight 3 weeks out (used my Amex flight due to 60 day restriction) and called up anz about lounge passes. Flight came and went, now at week 6 and still no lounge passes. So make sure you organise your lounge passes at least 6 weeks prior.

    • Are the passes open-dated - So can order straight away even though not flying?
No proof of flight required or airline restrictions?

    • I ordered in October (1st week) and got them by the end of the month.

Again I ordered in November (anniversary renewal date) and got them within 2 weeks… (was planning to use in December)

@dealmaker They have a 12 month expiry, I think you need to spend $500 on your card to trigger the lounge passes. I got my first ones before booking the free flight.

  • I have free citi signature and have applied for this now with yearly fee. Say if the monthly average card expenditure is 3k or so, is it better that max 2k is spent on this card and the rest on Citi, to make the best of both cards?

    • +1

You can still earn 0.5p/$ on this after the $2k.

      Check Citi..was devalued heaps.

I use these ANZ points for Velocity when ANZ offers a 50% transfer bonus.. So this card still wins IMO for me anyway

      • Wait so you can choose when you want the points to move across to Velocity? I thought it automatically get sweep across every month.

        • +1

Yes. Velocity or krisflyer and I think another. Definitely not Auto sweep which is good as you wait till the VFF transfer bonus

          • @daft009: That's amazing will definitely look at applying close to when Velocity have their bonus transfer which will be fairly soon.

            • @nightelves: Last one was 50% bonus for VFF :D

I have more points than holidays right now, even flying domestic in J lol

        • Pretty sure that's incorrect. This is specifically 75k velocity points, not reward points? Unless you mean any additional spend you do goes to reward points not velocity automatically.

          • @billybrown: Sorry yes I mean the day to day spend.
When I signed up there was no bonus

The bonus will be a direct credit I'd imagine

  • Does the complimentary flight have to be in the name of the cardholder? Or a name of the cardholders choice?

    • Cardholders name, 60 days prior min, subject to availability.

      • Ok so can be supplementary card holder then?

        • I looked it up, it was primary cardholder only.

One complimentary flight is available to the primary cardholder each year until the card is cancelled.

  • Applied yesterday afternoon and got approved this morning.

  • thanks, applied

  • Could the return flight be used during any time and between any 2 AU cities?

    • Spend $500 on eligible purchases in the first three months and book your flights at least 60 days before you travel.

  • Thank you OP! After a comprehensive verification, they approved mine!

  • Wasn't given anywhere to enter my velocity number during sign-up. Was that a mistake?

    • +1

Aaahhhh I just got this card earlier this month with 40,000 bonus points :( oh well! You will receive an email with a promo code and instructions to redeem the bonus points after you meet the $500 spend criteria. Took me two days to receive the points after redeeming it. Hope this helps!

  • Anyone know if there are any equivalent deals for Qantas points? Best I can find is the St George Amplify Platinum which is 60,000 points with a $99 annual fee. No free return flights or credit :(

    • St George Amplify Signature is 90,000 Qantas points with a $179 fee. Same issue though, no free return flights or credit.

      • Thanks, yeah seems like all the current low fee Qantas options you are just paying a fee for a certain amount of bonus points. Would be nice if they could throw in some flights/ credit or even some lounge passes to sweeten the deal.

        • 60k is a great bonus for only a cost of $99!
          Heaps of value there

        • +1

The SGB amplify signature comes with 2 Qantas lounge passes but you have to apply for them

  • Is there an end date for this offer ?
And,how difficult it is to get this card ?
(I have a very good credit rating, and i just started a new job this week )

    • +2

The T&C don't state an end date.

However, a very similar promotion started on the exact same date last year and ran until the end of October. So I'm guessing this one will be similar, but it is just a guess.

      • Ok, thank you, no problem, i will apply for it as soon as i get two payslips.

  • I got this card 11 months ago, is it possible to book a trip in 6 months time and cancel before 2nd year annual fee kicks in?

    • Yes absolutely. Also remember to claim your lounge passes and transfer your ANZ Rewards points before you cancel.

      • How to claim lounge passes?

        • You’ll need to phone up the rewards centre and navigate their ridiculous phone menu - once you get through to someone they’re usually pretty good though!

  • Got mine last month with a min spend of $500 in 3 months. Must be increasing min spend as xmas is coming up

  • It looks like 500min spend for the 40k bonus and 2500min for the 75k

  • Just signed up and uploaded docs.
First time getting a reward card. How long until I get 75k on the card? Planning on booking the flights (early dec) on this card so should cover the minimum send and then transferring points and upgrading..
Also the lounge passes are for domestic travels only yeah? How are you guys using it? I normally get a lounge pass at a connecting airport.

    • crappy customer service - will need to send running transactions, why?

    • Yeah domestic only.
I use mine before a trip

  • Applied last Thursday but application hasn't progressed.

Hope I get the card, I'm pretty frugal, have a steady job and a good amount of assets…

  • In the same boat here. Applied Wednesday, put in payslips Thursday, still nothing as of yet… Looking like a rejection, which would be the first time to happen to me.

  • I applied on Thursday night and submitted my payslips. Got a message on Friday afternoon to call them. Called them back on Monday morning and I was then asked for my payment summary for the last financial year, because I don't bank with ANZ. I got a call on Monday afternoon requesting my bank account statement that my salary goes into because there's a typo with a letter in my surname in the banking details section of my payslip. They final approved it today.

  • And how long does it take from approval to getting the card in metro area?
I have a big purchase coming up, which is time sensitive.

    • +1

      3-5 days

  • +1

Just called ANZ who confirmed I got the card approved a few minutes ago. Woohoo!

  • This looks perfect. I've been waiting for a "free" card that earns points with no overseas fees.

  • got approved _ I don't do many domestic travels not sure how much it would be worth for me after the bonus

Also, if anyone can confirm - the return flights only applies to virgin airlines? as in do I have to book virgin airlines oneway/return to avail the benefit?
