Any booze you can make with this? Like maple syrup mead? hmmmmmm……..
Edit: Acerglyn is what its called

    • +2
    • +4

anything with sugar or carbs can make booze ….maple mead would be an expensive drink though …..

      • Expensively delicious drink you mean

    • In Quebec I tried maple syrup 'wine'. Fairly nondescript, to be honest.

    • +4

      Yup,
Throw it in a dark beer. Approximately 30 percent of your grist and watch the magic, and ABV happen.

  • +2

    That a big maple syrup!

    • Exactly what I was thinking. Must be for commercial use.

    • Made by big maple

      • Who do you think paves your roads? Big Maple.

    • +3

      You haven't seen the pancake.

  • +81

Anyone got a deal on pancake mix?

    • +2

      Lol

    • +1

S/r flour 1 egg milk salt sugar and 1/2-1 tsp baking powder

      • +3

doesn’t make as good a pancake as pancake parlor ….
. check what is in commercial mixes, not the greens or white wings …..buttermilk powder, special level gluten on the flour, they use bicarbonate and baking soda to adjust the acid level and get lift as buttermilk powder is acid ….

        • Im not making buttermilk pancakes though am i? 😂 I was just giving a basic no preservatives recipe.

        • +5

Their Scientology makes the food less tasty

        • you can make better pancakes that pancake parlor. i mean you can use real buttermilk, or make your own buttermilk. I don't normally use buttermilk in my pancakes.

Personally I think flour is the most important component. Healthy Baker plain flour from Coles works pretty good imo.

      • +1

Going to want a lot more eggs when you have 17L of syrup

    • Costco Kodiak cake mix box. One cup with one egg and one cup of milk. Makes awesome pancakes.

  • ABSOLUT Maple Syrup eyyyy

  • Use a splash in coffee, obviously on pancakes.

17L would surely be for commercial use, I can't see any sane person buying this otherwise

    • +29

      No shit

      • +14

you'd be suprised it isn't that obvious to some people. this is ozB. people buy first then figure out what to do with it later.

        • +6

I would enjoy finding out that someone spent $350 on maple syrup with no reason

    • +3

we go through 2 of the 250ml bottles per week, so this would last us 8 months, and it does go off e.g mould grows on it, if not used and left in pantry after opening. if you also make pecan pies you could go through it easy.

but then people buy 49 rolls of toilet paper which would last us a year …..

      • +1

Ive got 20 12 packs still from coles.

        • Woa how much did you get each for?

          • @kehuehue: $1.57!! i've got about the same amount left too. so good

            • @ys: I remember that deal now - was a clearance 😖

      • +1

        bidet?

how can you use so little toilet rolls? I would easily use that amount myself in a year and most likely more.

        • +2

          Maybe they like skid marks.

      • +2

mould grows on it, if not used and left in pantry after opening

It's not mould, it is a xerophile.

Why do you keep it in your pantry?
The low temperatures in your fridge will slow or stop the growth of most fungi.

        • +2

          Most people don't have a walk-in fridge.

        • Moulds can be xerophiles; in fact in maple syrup it is a mould, just not the same type as spoils other food.

          • @askvictor: Regular fungi can't grow in maple syrup, there is to much sugar.
Xerophiles can grow in the high sugar environment.

            • @spaceflight: What do you consider to be regular fungi? On one hand, there's nothing regular about fungi…

      • It is supposed to last forever, as is honey. Source - the many many pepper videos I've seen.

        • +1

          Pepper or Peppa?

        • Once it is opened you can get xerophiles growing in it if it isn't stored correctly.

      • +1

How many pancakes do you eat a week?

    • +1

I use it to wash my car

    • +1

To drink perhaps? Same way I can drink condense milk…

      • +2

Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should.

    • +2

I'm gonna fill a deep fryer with the stuff and fry pancake balls in it.

      … And probably bacon

  • +8

Time to buy 3 or 4 fill up a bath tub.

    • +7

my dreams of having a maple syrup bath have just become one step closer

      • Aw yuck, imagine litres of maple syrup just sitting in your hair!! Also you'd probably be in UTI-town for sure, population: your sweet sticky arse

        • Maybe not, sugar is antibacterial

          • -1

            @Meconium:

            sugar is antibacterial

            No it isn't.
            Sugar is antimicrobial.

          • @Meconium: I digress, but aren't uncontrolled diabetics at higher risk for UTIs because they have more sugar in their urine?

            • +1

@doublehelix95: Yeah, I think you’re right, but even in a diabetic’s urine the concentration of sugar (proportion of glucose to water) is much lower than in maple syrup, which doesn’t go bad because the maple syrup has too high a concentration of sugars to facilitate the growth of atmospheric microorganisms.

In the expected absence of studies on this however, I would encourage any OzBargain citizen scientists interested in buying this big can of maple syrup to undertake some controlled experiments, involving men and women of different ages, some with diabetes, and track the incidences of UTIs. Compare these against the same group following bathing in normal bath water. Then we can get to the bottom of this!

      • Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, a hot-springs theme park south of Tokyo, recently unveiled its “pancake baths” that smell like — and are partially made with — real maple syrup and even have notes of vanilla. The baths were introduced to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Japanese brand Morinaga’s pancake mix.

Sadly, swimsuits are mandatory, Hotcake :p

  • +8

It's still only $2.10 per 100mL - Queen Maple Syrup is $3.60 per 100mL at full price, on sale it wouldn't be much more, but without having to store a whole keg.

    • +4

I think this is a joke post.

Paying slightly cheaper RRP retail price for wholesale volume.

    • +5

The Queen one is exactly the Aldi one. Aldi sells the 250ml bottle at $5.69 making it cheaper than this keg.

      • +3

Woolworths branded 100% maple syrup goes on special almost biweekly for $5.50 a jar.
        https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/298476/woo…

        • +1

Was going to say the same.

          Correction to above:
The Queen one is exactly the Aldi one. Aldi sells the 250ml bottle at $5.69 making it less than $2.30 per litre.

          • @spy: 4 x 250ml is over 20 a ltr?

          • +1

            @spy: $23 per litre.

          • @spy: Yeah, I always buy the Aldi one unless the Woolies one is on special.

            • @downbythecreek: Guys, don’t forget the deal includes delivery and consider product quality difference…. maybe?? :)

              • @Andysjunks: I've actually had this brand before, while I appreciate it's organic, its just regular maple syrup. It was about $9 for 250mL though from an IGA while away from home, so this is a pretty good deal if you have a lot of maple syrup and you're brand concious.

  • Oh thats just enough to last me for…

  • This has to be a joke post surely…

    • +10

It is, and don't call me Shirley.

  • Easily gone through 17 liters for a cafe in a year

    • +8

I've yet to find a cafe that uses real maple syrup, they mostly serve maple-flavoured syrup.

      • +1

yeah they use maple flavored …. but you also use maple syrup in pecan pies , so gas other uses besides on making maple bacon or pancakes.

  • +6

That's a lot of super troopers style chugging

    • +9

You're doing it all wrong. Open your throat, relax the jaw. Don't forget to cup the balls.

You're never gonna win with those thin little bird lips you got there.

    • +5

This guys got these big ol powerful lips, am I correct, Thorn?

  • +2

And people whinge petrol is expensive. $500 for 17 litres!

    • -3

cheaper than jack daniels or other spirits , yet much more work is required to make maple syrup, it’s concentrated tree sap.

      • +4

LOL, you just boil the water off to concentrate it. That's about the least possible effort you can put into a manufactured product.

  • It's amazing the kind of monopoly cartel the Maple Industry has, quite scary.

  • Lol it will be fun seeing how they will deliver this to my apartment unit

    • +2

Unless you are buying a few…then they may struggle.

      If you bought just one.

One of these is around the same volume of eight or nine 2 litre milk bottles.

      Those are delivered in crates.

So no biggie delivering you a single 17 litre container.

      • +1

        Makes sense.

I was thinking about the reactions I get from other dwellers when they deliver this

        • +2

If you got nosy neighbours maybe. If you got neighbours who dont give a sh*t then their reaction if any will be meh.

    • You will get 'sorry we've missed you' card in your letterbox instead.

  • +1

Looks like Agent Orange to me

  • +1

also some maple syrups are more concentrated than others …so it’s not just the volume, but quality also.

  • +2

    Sweet 😉

  • +2

Nice container. Can use it to store agent orange afterward.

  • +1

This is a nice prepper amount. Will sell like hotcakes on OZB.

  • +3

    Anyone wanna share?

    • +1

Yes, but I will keep the container. :P

  • Dont forget the extra $2 cashback via shopbacl mates

  • +2

    Thanks OP bought 30.

  • +2

No fallout bunker is complete without a lifetime supply of maple syrup!

  • +2

Kid's next month's breakfast sorted. Thanks OP.
