100,000 Flybuys Points (=$500) in 1st 90 Days & 20,000 Points in 2nd Year on The Coles Rewards MasterCard with $99 Annual Fees

2683

Coles MasterCard is giving away 100,000 Flybuys points, yes you read that right! I think it is worth $500. The points are available on the condition of spending $3,000 in the first 90 days and has an annual fees of $99. Then another 20,000 Flybuys points in the 2nd year.

When you spend the $3,000 to get the points, you also earn an extra 2 Flybuys points per $1 spent, which is another 6,000 Flybuys points = $30.

Essentially, it's $530 up for grabs at the cost of $99 in the first 90 days net benefit of $430. Another $100 in the second year with another $99 fee. It's a great way to pay for a month's grocery!!

Issued by Citi.

I don't think Coles cards have 2 year price protection now. It was discounted while merging with citi last year. Only those cards which had the cover activated before March last year has the same protection. New cards have different insurer and different terms

    • I would suggest a 28 degrees to compliment the Coles as then you get price protection option from any seller.

      • +1

Price protection isn't available anymore. Even for existing card holders. If you already had it activated it's fine.. for now.

Can't get past the second page of the application, no error messages, just won't process. Tried two browsers, no adblock or popup blockers. Pretty hopeless.

The "save application" also failed, this is just a waste of time.

    • Might be captchas not showing and so the buttons not working. Do you have tracking disabled globally?

    • Try safari on iPhone, mine works

  • I cannot past the second page as well, i will try later or tomorrow, thanks OP

    • Glad its not just me!

    • +1

Coles Website has been OZ BARGAINED!!

      • +1

Still broken today, I give up. Its not a bargain if you can't actually complete the application.

        • +1

Appears to be something broken. Doesn't mean it's not a bargain. They aren't exactly going to just run out of stock ;)

    • same here. tried multiple time…it won't go to page 3…

  • +5

Just so you guys know. You can convert 100000 points to 500 flybuys dollers and then use your flybuys card as regular debit card in kmart/coles/target to spend your $500

  • +2

Was going to apply then i realised it's citi which pretty much means an instant reject for me. not even going to bother.

  • +3

Minimum income is $25,000. It will be interesting to see how many people get rejected for this one.

    • are the strict with minimum income these days?

      • No idea sorry, but they will want to verify your income one way or the other

  • +1

I remember when they used to offer Velocity Gold status and bonus points. Missed those days.

    • +1

I missed the combo Amex Exp + Edge = 2 pts on everything.

  • I wonder if woolworths will combat this with a similar deal?

    • Finder reckons the Woolies Platinum card comes with a $50 egift card (under the Pros & Cons tab) with no annual fee for 1st year, but I can't see any mention of this on the Woolies site. They might be having a laugh. Also $50 < $500.

  • Do you have to spend the fly buys dollars in $10 increments?

  • +1

Have a current Citi visa from the last promotion but no Coles Mastercard. Am I a new customer?

  • It says for every one dollar spent you gain 2 flybuys points.

So it's a 1 percent return on spend. Sounds good right?

    • Yes. Spend $1000 and get $10 in rewards.

      • Plus $5 extra on your flybuys for $1000.

  • +1

Damn, just signed up for this recently for 50000 points

    • Same here. Applied for the 50000 points one last week :(

  • +1

Could i sign up spend 3000 and after i paid it off sign up to do a balance transfer? Anyone had an experience?

  • -5

    net benefit of $430
Yeah, $3,000 is a lot to spend on grocery in 90 days to be frank.

I would prefer to save that $3,000 and not get $430 savings. That is an equivalent of 14.33% off (430/3k).

    • +1

Please do tell us how you plan to save $3000.

      • -3

        By not spending it.

Tell me what kind of grocery do you buy that cost $1k a month?

        • +1

It doesn't say you need to spend 1k in groceries each month for three months.

If you're an independent adult, it's pretty easy to spend 3k in 90 days. Bills, insurance, buying junk you don't need and groceries.

            • +4

@No ONE: Mate… You can spend the 3k ANYWHERE. DOES NOT have to be coles. Read the T&C's before you jump the gun

              • @paraneoplastic: Oh my bad. I thought it is Coles card, then spending has to be with Coles.

                Thanks for that.

                • +3

@No ONE: So you never heard of Visa or MasterCard?

          • -1

@idonteven: Careful with paying bills as it says your BPAY payments will not count towards the 3k total :(

  • +3

    cant get past second page

    • Same here..

  • +1

I have tried to apply for this multiple times. When applying Coles doesn't like my address even though it suggests it as I type so rejects saving the page. Then when I try to give Feedback it also fails with a range of errors.

You have to wonder how they commission test their pages and apps.

  • +1

Citi rejected my application 2 week ago for PLatinum which has a minimum earning of 35k that I met, without any reason. Should I go for this?

    • +1

Unless you want to be rejected a second time and have a second hit to your credit score. Go right ahead.

      • That's what I thought.
Thinking of applying for Latitude Infinity Rewards card now.

  • +1

I've had the same issue as a lot of other commenters - being unable to proceed past the 2nd page of the application - since yesterday morning.
I actually called the Coles customer help line yesterday to ask for help, and all I was told was to try different browsers, reset cookies/cache etc. All things I'd already tried before calling.

    • Doesn't inspire confidence in them or their products.

    • Yes, total failure of online application. Ominous sign of what is to come if you sign up :)

  • Sounds very interesting. Can someone confirm to me that a balance transfer is an 'eligible transaction' for the needed $3000 in the first 90 days? e.g. if I balance transfer $3000, I get the 100k FB points?

    • Extremely unlikely - the list of eligible transactions for the Virgin Credit card (also owned by Citi) is very restrictive. Not saying it will be the same but its possible.

    • +1

      Nope, read this comment

      • Yep, that's the same as the Virgin card T&C. Its actually quite hard to find transaction types that aren't excluded!

      • Thanks, I misread the T&Cs. 'excluding' not 'including.

  • It must of got smashed and now getting fixed.

Sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable. We’ll be back soon!

    • -2

The issue has been posted on their FB with a link to this thread - that may have got their attention

  • Sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable. We’ll be back soon!

  • So you get 2+1 flybuys points per dollar if spent using this card at Coles?

    • +1

Correct. You get 1x when you scan your flybuys barcode (on the back of your credit card), then 2x for the actual dollars spent on the card. Also, not just Coles but any KMart, Target etc.

  • Does this card provide price protection?
It's mentioned here https://www.finder.com.au/coles-source-account-cover-plus 24 months from same retailer. Is that still true?

    Ah mentioned here
    https://financialservices.coles.com.au/credit-cards/about-ou…
But can it be any retailer?

    • +2

No, it is no longer offered for new applicants.

  • Would this be a more valuable offer than say a regular velocity card with 100k points, due to the bonus transfers that happen a few times a year??

    • 100k Flybuys points is equivalent (with 15% May/November bonus) to 50k Velocity points.

  • -2

Does this card offer discount for shopping at Coles?

  • has anyone ever applied multiple times with coles credit card, but never get a reply or response? No emails, no calls, no confirmation on application?

  • The application process is still broken. Not loading past the 2nd step. This is completely hopeless.

  • Do they have option for VISA also or just Mastercard?
I am looking for a VISA credit card.

  • Silly question, is there a way we can transfer the Flybuys points to gift cards?

    • You can redeem gift card using the points. 100k points can redeem $500 Coles or Kmart or target or ebay gift card

  • Just bought my flight last month, now don't know where to spend so much.

    • Same here.

      • if we purchae coles or ww gift card? will it be a eligible purchase for this 100k bonus points deal?

  • +1

Hey OP, I just tried using Chrome on the laptop and couldnt go past section 2. Tried it with my mobile and was able to successfully put through an application. Before anyone asks, I run Android.

    • did you received an confirmation email after finished the application?

  • Worked for me too. Android mobile.

  • looks like the website is working now. I tried on chrome.

  • +1

Applied. Will probably be rejected as I just applied for the 28 Degrees card which I no longer want but I hope I am wrong.

  • Just worked on IE too

I opted to upload documents now (proof of income, etc) but it timed out while I was finding it so might be worth selecting later

  • I just completed the form fine on the web.

  • Worked for me on iOS safari. Didn’t work in chrome this morning.

  • Can somebody who has completed the application let me know what proof of income documentation they require?

    • +1

It was something like- most recent payslip or 3months bank statement or letter of employment.

    • +1

Proof of income - Notice of assesmnt, Individual Tax return, Payslip, Company Biz return
      Proof of address
      Proof of Australian residency
      Proof of employment
      Other income proof

    • Cheers!

  • +1

Is there possibility to get the points (after one or two years period), then get rid of the card? I mean close the account if we feel we don't need it. Or close the account at any time we desire? Any restriction on that?

    • +1

You can close any account at any time (provided you pay it off in full, of course) however be careful opening/closing accounts too often as it may negatively impact your credit rating.

      • +1

        How often is too often?

        • +2

That would depend on the bank and/or reporting agency, however I know some people that get new CC's every 12-24 months and seem to be OK so far.

  • This is the card to get if you want to go on a big overseas holiday. No currency conversions, and earn some points.

  • Nice. spend about 10k a year at Coles so will get a nice bonus on points there too with this card.

  • Velocity vs Quantas, which is more value in terms of booking flights?
