  • after a quick check, it seems like all orders up to and including SCPO313539 have been either shipped or cancelled

except for mine which is still admin. booo

  • Got an emailed invoice showing shipped 02/08/11.

  • Just had a call from Expediters saying they are dispatching the computer from their Perth depot today and I'll get it Monday. YAY.

    • Got the same call. They said TNT will be making the delivery.

      • And my CWorld unit arrived today.

And my 8 port BR10i SATA controller arrived today too. It's coming all at once :)

Running MemTest86 on it now with 8GB of non-ECC DDR3 I bought from Netplus for $48. First pass OK :)

        • 8 port sata controller ?

          dumb question what for ?

        • I've mounted one of these http://www.dealextreme.com/p/2-5-sata-ii-hdd-2-bay-internal-… under a slim SATA DVD in this frame http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180696… and stuck an SSD underneath the frame.

Thus I needed 3 more SATA ports inside the case (the DVD runs from the ODD port on the motherboard).

edit: Oh, and there are 4 1.5TB WD green drives in the main bays.

        • wtf? and the 150W power supply copes with it all?

          good to know :P

        • +1

Yep. The 2.5" drives only pull a couple of watts.

All told the box is pulling about 60W from the mains according to my Jaycar power meter.

        • hey .. how did your memory test go?

does the 8gig non-ecc work fine?

          what brand did you get??

        • MemTest86 finished 3 passes with no problem using the cheapest memory I could get :)

($24 per 4GB stick of Strontium DDR3 from NetPlus).

I've received the special SATA cable for my 8 port controller today and the system is now running perfectly. I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V and have
1 x WS 2008 domain controller running Exchange Server, IIS and domain services (2GB RAM)
          1 x WS 2008 backup domain controller & P2P/SABnzbd services (1GB RAM)
1 x Ubuntu 9.10 workstation for Android developement (1GB RAM)

The 4x1.5TB drives are backup drives for my main NAS and only spin during the backup. When they aren't spinning the whole box pulls 44W from the mains :)

    • Never got a call but my Perth delivery arrived this afternoon.

      • Expeditors just told me that my package is still sitting in their depot awaiting handover to TNT, despite them telling me on Friday that TNT would deliver it today.

        And so the wait continues.

        • Was on hold with HP to have an update… same boat as you, was expecting it yesterday (Monday) after a call on Friday. Still have to wait I think.

        • +1

          @MtlOz

Do you have your Expeditors tracking number? If so, enter it as a reference number on TNT's website to check its status. Mine's showing that the package is onboard for delivery sometime today. With any luck, yours will be, too.

          http://www.tntexpress.com.au/interaction/asps/trackdtl_tntau…

          Edit: My package just arrived.

      • @Thrymr
        Customer Reference not found: OADA3441xxxx

  • Seems the people who are getting their unit delivered are not reporting back. We can't really tell how long from "Shipped" to "Delivered". C'mon guys stay in the loop pls.

    • Fair enough, but that also tells me it is not that long, otherwise they would be complaining instead of neck deep in raid arrays. Mine went from in production to shipped today, and is on a truck out of Sydney already. It is scheduled to be delivered Monday, but I probably won't whine until Wednesday.

      • Mine was shipped from Singapore on 3-Aug, and is due to be delivered on Monday 8th.

    • +1

I have 2 ordered and 1 was shipped to aus yesterday, no info on delivery though. Interested to see what was happening with my latter order SCPO3141xx and see t see if there was any pattern of movement for approximatately 168 order before mine was placed.

      Breakdown of status was about:
      102 orders for the server
      27 cancelled servers
      39 others items.

Not much of a pattern, most of the sample close to my order was in Admin and 50/50 of the earlier orders were in Admin/Production. Looked like they were batching some of the orders into States, noticed with my order being shipped that there were others being sent at the same time, not sure if the server but the shipping weight indicated approx 5-6 items.

Definitely not a case of first in best dressed, quite random, they must have a reason.

Wouldn't have posted this info, but re-checked a lot of the orders from 31404x to 31408x which are close to my order and every second order magically went from admin to delivery, with Startrack.

Bottom line, if you are still in admin status, you could get your server sooner than expected. Not sure where these units are appearing from so quickly, but he wait may be over soon.
Apologies for the long post, hope it makes a bit of sense and check those admin staus orders, you may be getting yours soon.

  • All seems well and on track. But funny enough HP have issued an invoice even though I have not got the item yet. So a heads up to people to make sure that you tell HP when you got the item as it can makes the difference between when the warranty starts as they will always go by the proof of purchase or invoice date. Just log a call and you will see what I mean. Also by logging a call with HP your correct date gets into the system and there is no issue with warranty when some things goes wrong on the last days as it usually does. And you have got it in the system when you physically got the thing as that is when the warranty is meant to start from. So good luck to all.

    • Same deal, got my invoice just now and it is marked as today, 6.8.2012. Still in cleared customs state on the HP order status page, no Startrack details.

      • almost deleted it as junk/spam…. subject line and sender is just lots of letters and numbers. it's only because I was looking out for it that I even dared to open it and save attachment.

        • Startrack details or the invoice? The invoice seems consistent with that. Still no tracking details.

    • just print out/screen capture the order status page… will show date and time you receive the goods for future records.

  • just did a search and found a few dealers have this in stock now for $230 to $240. do you guys think its price will drop below $200 very soon?

    • guaranteed, as I bought one, so price sure to drop.

      • +1

Let us know what else you are buying! There may be some extra bargains there:)

        • There were some shares on the ASX I got last week, and some off-the-plan luxury apartments before that….;)

    Ding. Dong. 08:43am. Microserver arrived.

    • +1

Good on ya, 3 business days for you. I got the shipped on 5/8 so I expect it on wednesday 10/8 (they estimated 12/8)

    • thanks for posting mate, good to know they are coming along nicely.

*waiting patiently for my door bell to ring

  • Shipped 5/8, arrrived this morning. I put in a business address which I reckon makes it quicker.
Looks like they followed through on their promise to expedite shipping!
FWIW mine was a **3970 order, so they will probably ship the 4000's soon.

    • couriers set up their daily run to get rid of most of their bulk first thing…. business areas would be first cab off the rank (hence your business address nearby got delivered to). but that doesnt change the fact that others residential addresses out of the normal run area will just get delivered to later on in the day.

i'd rather the security of having my server delivered to my home address. lugging around a 10kg box all day and making sure it doesnt get flogged at lunchtime etc. doesnt sound like fun to me :).

      • Different environments. My work is pretty safe and we have our own receiving dock and storeperson.
My house, in the boonies, is 80m from letterbox so they rarely come up driveway, especially if dog is out. They end up taking it back to base which is a pita.
I reckon work adresses save me 2 days: it gets there one day earlier and I don't have to head to the depot, "sorry we missed you" card in hand the next day to pick it up.

      • Can't say I envy your workplace if you need to worry about someone flogging your server at lunchtime…

  • +1

I could have put my Business address, but don't see myself carrying the box home in public transportation.

    • That's nothing! I "missed" the TNT delivery to my home the other day, so on ly lunch break I took a bus to the depot, picked up the server, took the bus back to work, then at the end of the day took the box to the train station for the trip home.

  • I tried to have it sent to my PO Box, but the jerks wouldn't deliver there (and didn't say so until after I'd filled that field, with no way of going back to edit it).

  • Mine's just arrived.
    Delivered by TNT.

  • Mine arrived half an hour ago. I gave my work address. Order # SCPO3136xx. Got an email about the delay until Sep. On 03/08 status changed to shipped and estimated delivery on 10/08. HP status still shows Customs Released (2011-08-04 Melbourne). Another order SCPO3137xx still in admin - date will follow. Because of the delay and uncertainity of HP order I got two from CWorld (1 for me & 1 for mate) at an inflated price. Now need to offload the HP order came through and cancel the other pending order.

    • You're looking to offload one? Melbourne by any chance?

      • Yes and Dandenong.
Is there a private message feature in OZBargain?

        • There sure is - I'm Rowville.
Click on my name, then click on the '?' picture to bring up the user page. Contact tab should be the rightmost one, where you can email me.

        • Still looking to offload mindapoocha?

      • Sorry mate, IT dept in our office wanted one and gave to them to the price I gave at CWorld. Mostly our file server will be replaced with this one.

  • Can anyone recommend where to purchase additional RAM from the Sydney area?

    • +1

Around $30/4GB if you don't need ECC

      http://www.hboutlet.com.au/catalog/advanced_search_result.ph…

I got 2x4GB last month for $66 - just some generic RAM. Now they have one 4GB stick Corsair for $31. Bargain.

      Not include postage.

      • great link, thanks mate. 4Gb Corsair is perfect!

definitely dont need ECC RAM for a home server application, so thats awesome thanks.

        • Cheers for the link, anyone using the 8G Kit (4Gx2) 1333 G.Skill-NT….MSY @ $46 seems a bit hard to beat.

        • Yep, bought the 8G Kit (4Gx2) 1333 G.Skill-NT….MSY @ $46, works fine.

        • Cheers, good to know, still waiting for mine to get from Melbourne to Adelaide.

  • Mine JUST arrived!

Bit bigger than I expected… a mighty fine machine though. Looks the part… will fire it up tonight and see if it's worth the wait :)

Just had a call from TNT, delivery this arvo!

      What a long strange trip this has been :-}

      • I see you also got a violet proto-drake with that server.

        • plus vote for WoW reference :).

for those who have been smart enough to stay away from World Of Warcraft, he is referring to a mode of transportation that is very fast and highly sought after.

  • No kidding. Missed the startrac guy at home this morning by an hour (bummed - away tomorrow). Called him and he agreed to meet me up the road in 5 mins (a block away) where I got my order. Nice to have a happy ending to this mini saga.

  • Does anyone know who is handling deliveries in Sydney, and how we can find our consignment number?

  • Any deliveries in ACT yet?

    • nup, but i reckon tuesday or wednesday for us.

  • Does the carrier always call before hand or just show up.

    • They'll usually just show up.

  • Got mine in WA.

    • Wanted to add that I started working on put the memory, graphics card and hard drive in. Being a small PC it's pretty difficult to maneuver around and the motherboard has to slot out for you to access it. There's one connection that looks like usb (when slotted in, after it looks a bit like a 6 pin) and is positioned on the left hand side of the motherboard, it has a metal clip that you push in to pop it out but for me it didn't want to work and I ended up jaming a screwdriver into it and poping it open. Also my 5450 did not fit in the case with a bracket, the low profile bracket would have worked if HP had put the PCI-E card at the top like 99% of other brands, but they decided to put it at the bottom so what I assume is a bracket for a TV tuner or some other PCIx1 card makes it too big to fit in. My GPU now has no bracket to stabilize it so I'm hoping nobody knocks it.

Overall a pretty cool micro server though.

      • Which model 5450 did you get? I am about to buy one myself, just want to make sure I get one that fits. Can anyone recommend a model of 5450 that does fit?

        • I am hearing it needs to be a low profile card. Any one recommends a place in Sydney that sells it?

        • Most low-profile versions should be fine. Just ensure that the one you buy includes a low-profile bracket, and that the heatsink/fan does not extend too far from the board; otherwise, there's a good chance it'll hit the side of the box.

For what it's worth, I've got the Asus EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3(LP).

          http://www.asus.com.au/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/EAH5450_SIL…

        • @Thrymr

I have that exact card, the second part of the bracket that has the single slot for what I assume is something to do with a TV card? (has a picture of a tv like object engraved in), will not allow the card to be installed in the case since the pci-e slot is at the BOTTOM rather than the top. You cannot flip the bracket around (obviously) and I don't see any way of installing it other than cutting the bracket with a grinder or metal cutter. The normal bracket that comes installed on the card can almost fit but the head is a little bit too long and thus can't be clipped in.

Created an image to better explain what I'm talking about, forgive the fail grammar: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/202/microfail.png/

        • Got a HIS 6450 fitted perfectly with the low profile bracket that came with it.

        • @Redmo0n

Mine came with two separate low-profile brackets. One is for HDMI/DVI (to be installed on the x16 side), while the other is for VGA (optionally installed on the x1 side).

          Is yours one piece?

        • @Thrymr

Where did you buy your Asus EAH5450 from?

        • @bulldog36

MSY for $39. They sell the Gigabyte and PowerColor cards for cheaper, though they may not include the low-profile brackets.

        • @Thrymr

Yeh I only got the one bracket that's together in one piece, I didn't think of the other part as a VGA slot as it seems a little big for it. I bought my card off an eBay store, it was new in box but maybe the 512mb version doesn't ship with separate brackets :/

        • @Redmo0n

I just had a look at the box it came in.

Just to clarify, the product code is Asus EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3/V2(LP). The one I linked to doesn't have "V2", and I also notice that it's not on the Asus site. Specs-wise, however, it's exactly the same. I assume the "V2" is a variant that includes separate brackets.

Newegg has a picture of the box's contents.

          http://www.newegg.com/Product/ImageGallery.aspx?CurImage=14-…

        • before you buy the asus 5450, check out the asus 6450.

same footprint, faster, silent, and uses very little power. it'll cost more, but it's pretty much the update to the 5450- which is getting a little dated now.

also, the asus 5450 only comes with 1 low profile bracket… and not the bracket you need unfortunately. there's 3 types of brackets…. normal, low profile full height, and low profile half height. the 5450 only comes with normal and a full height low profile. the 6450 comes with all 3.

i know this first hand because I just opened up the two packs and compared them before settling on the 6450. MSY has the 5450 at $38, and the 6450 at $60. yeah it's $22 more… but the extra RAM, speed, and bracket is worth it.

will be popping it into the HP tonight along with the 8Gb GSkill ram mentioned above.

        • I got the HIS 6450. Fits perfectly (well its a squeeze width wise).
it is fanless, hopefully wont cook anything.
Has the correct brackets, either hdmi and dvi, or a single vga.
I think it was $50 from pccg. I would have preferred a gt430, but it was not in stock, was more expensive and would have required cutting fins to fit. The 6450 also uses less power I think.

        • Got the ASUS EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3/V2(LP) from MSY @ $39, comes with a couple of LP brackets.
Sure I read somewhere that they draw 17w compared to 35w from the 6450.

        • can 100% confirm that asus 6450 fits perfectly, and g skill 2x 4gb kit works as it should.

6450 does use a little more power, but only under full load (22w full load) but as I'm not loading up the box with 4 or 5 hard drives, i should be well under the limit anyway.

using stock 250gb as boot, plus 2x 2TB WD Greens for media storage.

in process of installing xbmc live as we speak off usb. so far so good! (im a noob at anything linux :)).

        • I bought the gigabyte 512m ddr3 5450 for 30$ from MSY, fit perfectly after some tuning. I'd prefer a cheap 5450 than 6450, because it is just for 1080p decoding and sound output, not for big gaming.

  • Got mine today too. One day earlier than the planned date of 9th August. Maybe time to thank HP for getting this sorted out after they clearly got overwhelmed with a deal they "didnt" know they were offering. Also, shows how little the marketing people understand this segment of the server market. It looks like this rush for this server is not confined to Australia based on my research across the internet.

  • Mine just arrived via TNT in Canberra. Sweet :)

I was going to install Free NAS, but I've just been reading up on UnRaid…. very impressive. It's actually got some very nice design features to specifically cater to storing and serving digital media (which is exactly what I plan to do). For those of you looking to do the same, I suggest you have a look at it. Looks like its pretty straight forward to use and plus it's free (which is always nice) :).

    • Only free for 3 drives or less.

  • I'm currently testing an ECC memory purchase. If the sticks work I'll put up a deal for those wishing ECC as it's cheaper from them than anywhere in oz. I bought 16gb (yeah, cheap enough for that IMO :).

Just putting this up in case anyone wants ECC memory. Sticks should get to me in 10-14 days I think.

Else I can put up the deal now before I get the sticks and we can all be guinea pigs. :)

    • You better put it up now so we can check. No need for guinea pigging, it takes unbuffered (unregistered) ecc ram, registered ecc doesn't work, it's been tried.. I hope that's what you got? Scorptec has the correct 4GB Kingston ecc sticks for $69.

  • Received mine just now. No phone call from the courier.
    Order #SCPO3135xx (VIC)

    • me too

  • Mine's finally here. Excitement! I still haven't chosen an OS or RAID config… I wanted to go with 5 but don't want the complexity (and performance hit) of software raid.

Maybe I'll just go JBOD and buy another unit next year for redundancy.

  • -1

    my 3 units arrived :D

    • +1

Well done, i also orderd 3 but had them cancelled :(

  • BTW. For those looking for gfx cards for HTPC use (or even desktop):

    http://www.geeks3d.com/20100226/the-real-power-consumption-o…

It's a nice little chart and the HD5450 GDDR3 appears to be the sweet spot for power usage. Remember, you have a 150W power supply that probably loses around 20% of power straight off the bat so you have 120W max with which to power everything internally+any USB devices.

    • I heard the PSU in the until is really good though, but what you said above is true.

  • Canberra……………….Sorry we missed you. TNT…………Rescheduled for Friday….

  • Thrymr 2 hours 11 min ago ¶

    @Redmo0n

Mine came with two separate low-profile brackets. One is for HDMI/DVI (to be installed on the x16 side), while the other is for VGA (optionally installed on the x1 side).

    http://www.asus.com.au/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/EAH5450_SIL…

The link you gave shows a once piece double bracket so how did you manage seperate brackets?

    • I just had a look at the box it came in.

      • Yep, looks like it's V2 of Low Profile and the others come with the bracket together :/

  • mine was delivered

  • Finally received the unit at lunch today :).
