I've never had (probably never will) a TV dinner - I'm guessing they would consist of frozen vege, some kinda of meat product (rather than whole food) & sauce?

    Do they taste alright?

    • +7

NO they taste bad and make me feel sad.

    • Just never expect what's on the front of the box.

    • +1

No, but im am biased. Pressed, over processed and coloured suprise mystery meats have never been my thing.

They are instant meals. I find they are more satisfying than canned foods (eg. spaghetti, baked beans). They are pretty low in fat too. Unfortunately all the ones I had tried have a tiny serving size.

      • Lean cuisines are horrible, but I think you should try red pepper. they taste nice and have real ingredients in them

      • Most of them have sub 1000kj. Barely enough to be called a dinner.

  • hmm crap specials. Red Pepper meals are very nice though, the prawn laksa particularly.

    Helga's Bread Varieties 680g-850g, 3 for $7

THREE now? What happened to having good deals for ONE load of bread?

    • +1

haha tell me about it. gone are those days where the savings were buying just one of something.

      • +1

They probably want you to buy that $1 Home Brand rubbish. If we all buy the Home Brands, how will the other breads survive?

A good article is here: http://www.theage.com.au/money/saving/home-truths-20110405-1…

Personally, I will pay more to avoid Home Brand products. Otherwise, I suspect we will pay more in the long run if there is less competition.

It's ridiculous! I only like buying a loaf at a time even when they have the usual 2 for $xx deal. I know you can freeze them, but fresh is way better. 3 for $x is just plain stupid.

SOB!!! Arnott's Shapes are only 2 for $4 in SA!
Why would they be the same price or cheaper in the state they're made?!?!
    Logical…Grrrrr…

  • Here in WA we have woolies toilet paper @ 1/2 price instead of the shapes…(14c/100 sheets or 16 rolls for $4.25). I think that's pretty good but I'd rather the shapes!

  • I cleaned my local Woolies out of Carmans muesli bars =D This is the cheapest I've seen them since Coles had them 2 for $4 (yes!). When Coles had that deal I bought about 6 of the boxes-of-boxes.. lasted me about 6 months ;)

Oh and their muesli seems nice too.. got a few boxes to try.

$1 for 2.25L LA Ice / Maxi Ice is good.

It is actually a decent cola.

    • Actually the LA Ice has sucralose in it to sweeten it so it just tastes like artificial sweetener, like all the P&N line. ACtually I haven't bought this in years since they started putting it in but I'm pretty sure this is still the case. If I buy sugar-ladened cola its cos I don't want to taste the chemicals in sugar free cola!

      • LA Ice is sweetened with sugar.
LA Maxi ice is artificial sweetener

        Like Pepsi and Pepsi max.

Not sure what made you think the whole P&N line has artificial sweetener, but it isnt correct.

        • For years LA Ice was sweetened with both sugar and sucralose, an artificial sweetener. They used sucralose not as a sugar substitute for calorie reasons but as a cost saving measure. They may have stopped using it in LA Ice but if you check most of the other non-diet P&N lines, you'll see 'sweetener' in the ingredients, and if you're sensitive to the taste you'll definitely taste it.

There may have been a backlash which led them to go back to just using sugar in LA Ice.

        • I can tell you for sure it isn't in LA Ice as i have a bottle here.

(well unless they are making up their ingredients list but i highly doubt that )

Looked on the P&N website. Their other products (pub squash, lido, mcsars ect) do have sweetener, but it isn't sucralose. They are using Neotame, which can have the same aftertaste.

        • Ah cool, I used to buy LA Ice and stopped because they added sweetener, I'd say enough poeple like me stopped buying it for them to realise the error of their ways and removed it again!

  • I rather buy the slab of pepsi for $10 than LA Ice. The cans work out to be similar price to buying bottles, but are more convenient and will stay fresh longer. think that special may have ended though.

  • Eating the red pepper chicken green curry for lunch now, its quite nice! As far as frozen meals go these are the best you can get. They have been cheaper though, they were once around $2.50 each.
