Virgin Prepaid Mobile Broadband Modems 50% off (Includes Data, Free Delivery, Online Only)

260

My very first Ozbargain post! It's 50% off all Virgin's pre-paid modems, and they all come with data. So that's $24 for a USB stick modem with 4GB starter data (RRP $49). No lock-in contracts, and great for travellers, pre-paid folks or people who might not have access to the internet temporarily.

Vodafone have a USB modem for $24.50 at AusPost and Officeworks, but it only comes with 3GB Data and may have issues with reception (as some Vodafone customers have been telling us about). Virgin covers 97% of Australia apparently, and use the Optus network, so I guess it may be better.

5 Day sale, and online only. Payment's restricted to credit card, but you get free delivery as a bonus.

Offered are:

Prepaid Wifi-Modem, 4GB Included Data, $49 (RRP $99) - AusPost's deal may be better.
Plug and play
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Up to 3 WiFi Connections
MicroSD card slot

Prepaid USB Modem, 4GB Included Data, $24 (RRP $49)

Expandable memory (microSD™)
Our network covers up to 97% of Australians

Prepaid Premium USB Modem, 6GB Included Data, $39 (RRP $79)

  • Wow this is awesome dude. Thumbs up to you from me for sure.

    Thanks for this!!

  • wait. has it already been 50% off? it says was $99?

    • You have to click 'buy online now,' then it comes up to $49 on the product summary page. Edit: The site changed it by itself now, so the discounted prices are already on the page.

    4) Included data has a 30 day expiry.

It seems they got 30 day expiry not 100 day.

The 100 day is for the Premium USB modem. 30 Days is for the other standard and Wi-fi…

  • This can be combined with another existing offer if you port an existing number over. You will get an extra $25 prepaid credit, which can be used to top up 640mb of additional data.

See extra $25 offer at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41219 (this offer was $35 before).

Pity there's an expiry date on the included data, otherwise I would buy one. Data doesn't go bad and have to be thrown out like meat :-P

  • good deal. virgin=optus good connections. i bought vodafone earlier this year similar deal $99 for modedm with 12 months 12 gig rubbish connections. Used virgin before good connections.

  • Does anyone know if the $24 modem is a Huawei E160E?

If so, does anyone have the link to that site which gives us the unlock code?

    • Yes that is the model, I just checked mine.

This modem served me very well and was fast enough. The downloads don't last long unfortunately.

  • Nice but wow does this compare to the Telstra one?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48597

    • Telstra better coverage/reception than the other networks. Just depend on your needs/area/downloads…

    • Telstra has better coverage, but is needs more $$$ to recharge, $40 for 2GB compared to Virgin's $29 for 2GB.

    • I've gone with the Telstra Wi-Fi modem myself. The recharges are more expensive, however I don't get the coverage from Virgin (Optus) or 3 in Randwick. Have not tried Vodafone yet, but I didn't have much luck when traveling up to the NSW north coast 6 months ago using a month to month mobile broadband connection. Even though 3/Optus/Vodafone coverage maps show I'm good, reality is different so best to make sure.
