Could sign up for the trial if not already.

      • Could register a new account if already.

  • What are these drives like? I'm guessing its TLC Flash at this price so not much better then the CORSAIR BX drives

    • +11

The type of flash isn't that important because manufacturers have learned to use SLC cache to offset the real write speed of M/T/QLC. The use or lack of DRAM cache has the bigger impact during real life usage. This SSD is DRAMless just like the Crucial BX500, so you can expect similar prices and performance.

One thing to watch out for in T/QLC flash is their longevity. The number of erase/write operation you can perform on T/QLC flash is significantly lower than S/MLC flash, so you should check the warranty length and the TBW (Tera Bytes Written) figures. This SSD has a 3-year warranty and 200TBW, or on average overwrite 183GB (38% of capacity) per day over the warranty period. In 3 years time, you'll probably want to upgrade to a newer, faster and larger SSD and relegate this for use in an old system or external enclosure.

  • How is this compared to crucial bx and mx series drives?

    • see comment above

    • It'd be identical the bx drives, but much less durable then the mx drives. Also, likely, slower once the cache is used.

  • Fits ps4?

    • It does but you won't see much faster loading. PS4 OS and hardware isn't optimised for SSDs.

      • +1

Actually you can get a decrease of 20% of loading time. If you use a better quality like Samsung 860evo you can get between 20 and 38% depending on the game.

You should. It won't be as big as on PC, mainly thanks to the worse CPU I'd bet, but it'd still be a pretty large boost.

      • Will make the OS less laggy. Also nearly halves loading times in RDR2 and Destiny 2 for example.

There is a bottlenecks, but still a noticeable improvement

    • -1

Yes it is fits since all same sata 3 connection.

    • It fits but the performance increase is not great for the standard PS4. I believe the PS4 pro benefits from an SSD

  • I think it's over now, I was unable to purchase one.

    • +1

Still working, just bought. Try again…

    • +1

Listing shows "More than 10 available". Everything worked up to actually paying for the SSD, but I am not buying.

  • can I use this externally for windows OS boot ?

    • -1

Externally? Like via a USB 3 enclosure?

      Too slow, I think.

      • But to use it as a USB3 storage drive? What else would I need to buy? :) That's my plan, haha.

      • +1

        yeah … oh no :(

        • +1

If you buy an enclosure for it (there was one on here the other day) then you would be able to use it no problem. The only thing would be to ensure you get an enclosure that supports TRIM to extend the lifespan of the drive. I believe it's usually cheaper to just buy an external SSD to start with but I'm not really sure.

  • 2 x of these running in raid 0? $120 for a terabyte at decent speeds. Obviously doubling the risk of data loss but could be decent for a game drive

    • +1

I think the bx 960gb drive is at about $130. I'd pay the extra $10 for the lack of hassle.

      Probably even cheaper on eBay.

  • Seems like most of their hardware prices are jacked up!

Why do I have an impulse to buy cheap SSDs?

  • Too late !

  • Excellent, was waiting for some more cheap 240gb SSD , time to try getting gigabyte over the bx500 models

  • Says out of stock but there is still stock available. Just bought 2 of the 240GB drives to upgrade a couple of laptops

Also grabbed a couple of external cases to put the old IDE drives in to use for backups.

these work out as about $7.50 buying 2.
