  • For those who already took up the free 4 months offer, do you know if I can cancel immediately or will I give up the 4 free months? I sometimes forget to cancel.

    • -4

There ought to be a Law to Require
      co.'s who offer "Subscroptions" to
enable subscribers to set-up - in
advance - the number of months' of
trial they're prepared to agree to,
      so their "forgetfulness" WON'T cost
them $$ they might need for food or
      med's, etc.

Older folks, or anyone with memory-
      issues, are essentially victims to
      such "Subscription Over-Run" & this
should NOT be a Lawful part of ANY
      co's Business Model!

      At this stage, maybe:

      • Watch your debit card a/c for
        unwanted Debits

…and - when you spot one - phone
the co. IMMEDIATELY & get 'em to
      Refund the Debit (Amazon's been
good at this, in our experience)

      As a "pre-emptive strike" when a
link to your PayPal a/c was used,
remove that link ASAP, after Free
      Trial begins

      • I understand your angst but there are reasonable precautions one can easily take up to avoid bill-shock if you were planning on canceling your plan.

Use the calendar on your phone to remind you to cancel your plan. Even feature (non-smartphones) are capable of this.
With Circles.Life you can immediately disable the direct-debit function in your account.

        • There is no account management in the app (cancelations) or the web site that I can see.

I think you have to call them if you want to cancel. Do correct me if I'm wrong on this because I'd like to be wrong.

      • +4

You tried but unfortunately a typical Australian is a brainwashed fool who will argue away their own rights while advocating for the rights of businesses to trick and deceive customers while blaming it on the customer.

They literally cheer on anything business does because that's what they were told to think by marketing and political messaging.

      • Did you get that from a newspaper?

    • Just open a new numbers or port your other numbers.

    • From the main deal.

    • +3

This is a post-paid contract, not prepaid.

If you cancel, the service is terminated (likely on next business day).

Details in previous deal - you either call to terminate or port number to another provider.

If necessary, set reminders to activate within 30 days of signing up to get this Deal with cashback.

Set reminders to terminate near end of 4th month.
Check end date as part month at start may count as a month of service.
Possibly activating after 20th of month may give longer service - read comments in previous deal. (Belong also uses 20th for billing cycles )

    • +1

why does everyone too focus on cancellation as opposed to porting-out which is most likely what folks (sim whores) will do?

can we not just, in the 3rd and a half month, port-out and port-in to Kogan? which means, Circles will get port-out request and service will be cancelled anyway, right? just the same as how we port out from Catch Connect to Kogan or vice versa … we never discussed about cancelling Catch then porting-in to Kogan … we just Port-in to Kogan and that will initiate port-out request to Catch Connect and vice versa …

      • I dont know how people have the time or energy to do such sign up and cancel schemes. I find a good deal and stick with it.

        • but $28 per month isn't really a good deal tho ..

        • -2

You pay $28, I'm paying under $5 or less with 20GB or more per month.

Using SIMS I already own, it's not that difficult.

Telstra should have never been privatised which would mean the absurd situation of switching carriers every one to three months (and the inconvenience) to have a competitive price wouldn't exist.

And all the other idiots paying more than five bucks wouldn't be getting ripped off.

This pointless waste of money and/or the more valuable time is what fools who believe in the current neoliberal capitalist system call "efficient" along with calling the prices cheap when they aren't.

Because that's what the theory predicts.

Obviously the evidence isn't there which makes these people look like religious people.

        • +1

Yeah clicking a few buttons and 5 minutes to save hundreds each year is a huge waste of my time. Personally, I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000.

          • @TEER3X: each to their own; mind you I own Lamborghini and i still do this; it's a challenge on its own.

            • @tempura: Doing this may not result in you owning Lamborghini…but the ability to SMELL a deal and ACT on it does.

      • why does everyone too focus on cancellation as opposed to porting-out which is most likely what folks (sim whores) will do?

Porting out depends on the right deal showing up at precisely the right time (near the expiry of your current plan). This doesn't always happen.

Maybe a good deal pops up weeks before your current subscription is going to be renewed and you will have to give up several weeks of service. Maybe it doesn't come until after.

If Kogan happens to have a good deal on at 3.5 months from now, that would be the ideal scenario. It's not guaranteed though.

        • If Kogan happens to have a good deal on at 3.5 months from now, that would be the ideal scenario. It's not guaranteed though.

Kogan happens to have a good deal at 3.5 months from now …

but I get your point … it never is guaranteed … but that's the risk that every sim whores need to take to be able to win big in this game.

  • How long we have to keep the connection to get the $5?

    • +2

Stated on SB: min 60d before terminate or port, activate in 30d max of signing up, redeemable in 75d

Always check SB has paid as many of my purchases still show Tracked by never paid out long after date.

      • Cheers

    FYI:

Powered by the Optus Mobile Network.

    • +2

That was what I came here to check, thanks

  • Girlfriend and friends are using it after some persuasion. No complaints from them yet. Plus it's cheaper then most other telcos barring free international calls

  • anyone knows how long does it take for the SIM card to arrive?

    • +1

It's pretty quick. I received mine next day, but I've read some getting it same day if you order it early morning.

    • +1

My girlfriend registered in the morning and got it by later evening, granted she lives in metro

  • It's the ciiiircles dot liiiiiffeeee

  • So not limited to 1 per customer? i will get multiple sims then.

  • Does it stack with $40 Vinomofo offer?

  • how is this signal compare to other operators

    • +1

how does Optus compare to others in your area ?

  • Since this is postpaid service, I presume any additional NEW mobile numbers sign up by existing customer does not qualify as NEW customer for the cashback. What about additional NEW mobile numbers sign up for those who have existing sign up BUT have not activated the SIM/service? Anyone knows?

    • Good question. Would like to know too.

  • some information which may help or may even mislead you folks; i gave this particular scenario to the chat rep:

    • if I activate the plan on Monday, 21 Oct 2019, when exactly the 4 months period will end in Feb 2020? her answer was at the end of Feb 2020, which is Saturday, 29 Feb 2020.

    • then my next question was if I activate the plan on Monday, 4 Nov 2019, when will my 4 months period will end in March 2020? she said exactly at the end of March 2020, which is Tuesday, 31 March 2020.

so morale story is activate early and you'll get essentially an additional month (give or take) free?

    • Basically up to 5 months free

    • You can refer to this. Basically activating right after the month start will give you an extra month.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483208?page=1#comment-7736…

    • They do their billing cycles on the 1st day of the month across the board for easier accounting. It's been a long time since I've dealt with a company that does that. Everyone else does it on the same date the following month. By doing it on the 1st, they are losing a lot of money in giving away a free month on this deal.

  • If this is a postpaid, does it require credit check? Do they charge your credit card for anything for the first 4 months?

    • +1

They do credit check. Live CS support confirmed this when I ask if I could sign up for additional service. No. They don't charge anything during the free period as long as your data usage is within the plan allowance and no other add-on services.

      • They do credit check

but they do credit check anyway for most "pospaid month-to-month" these days … even with the ozb favourite "Kogan"

    Great deal!
I was wondering what is the catch until I requested for cancellation of my order as my existing mobile plan only expires Jan 2020 and to enjoy this promo, activation needs to happen by end Nov. It took approx 25 minutes to cancel my order via Live Chat as the customer service needs to submit my cancellation request and wait for approval. This is not an automatic process.

I was told that I would receive an email confirmation on the cancellation. However after 4 hours, still no email. So if you do not plan to continue with the plan after the free promo period, you may want to do it earlier than later part of the month. Not sure if my experience is common for those who tries to cancel their order. YMMV.

Anyway, still a wonderful deal for 4 months+ of free mobile service.

    • Good advise. If anyone not planning to stay on after promo period, porting out is a better option. Else cancel mid way rather than end of the month to avoid charges and don't forget to disable auto debit on App.

    • I'm sure they're going to be extremely busy on the last day of the free 4 month period.

    • With postpaid services like Belong, they require 1 business day notice to terminate.

So I contact a few business days before next billing cycle to notify to terminate on last day before next billing cycle. Worked every time - always free mobile services.

Porting to a free Telstra SIM is an alternative, but recently had 2 day delay in Port involving Optus, which may mean old service will charge for another month (they shouldn't though).

  • can I port ing and port our anytime I want?

    • Don't see why not as long as your service is still active for porting out since this is a postpaid service. Your mobile number becomes inactive once you cancel your plan. So if you need the mobile number, you need to port out when your active is still active.

      • Don't see why not as long as your service is still active for porting out since this is a postpaid service.

what does it got to do with it being postpaid? it made absolutely zero difference to how prepaid porting works.

        • +1

For postpaid, once you cancel your plan, you number is inactive and cannot be ported out. For prepaid, your number remains "active" (without recharge) for at least 60 days even after your plan expires. So you can still port out even your plan has expired.

          • @J Shammah: ok … fair enough; i was always under the impression for folks that got on this bandwagon would normally port-out rather than cancel.

  • No volte no vilte no rcs, only wifi calling. It'll do for most, especially the data. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've asked circles.life myself).

IME it's always better to go with a full service network than a wholesale reseller.

  • If i tick the Extra 20GB for $10 will i have to pay each month on the 4month trial or will i just get 20gbs extra for free

  • Is there a certain date we have to activate the sim by?

    • Yes - as stated in Deal Description.
Depends on date you sign up.

  • Can you port in numbers with different DOB as your account?

    • Porting requires account that number is being ported from to have same details as new account. Stated in telcos porting request.

Both accounts require ID that includes DOB to set up.
Not sure what you are trying to do?

      • Try to port my partner's number but put credit check on me, thx for the explanation
