Samsung Galaxy S Free on Virgin $29 Cap (24mth) with 5 Months 50% off (250MB, $450 Roll over Credit)

280

Good evening! After all these years of voting and commenting on other's deals, here is my very first! I'm ready, so shoot me with pos/negs comments flames.

I had a virgin $20 plan that was just about to run out. I rang and asked for Galaxy S $29 CAP deal, and said Optus is giving 2 months free. The agent took ages to confirm/discuss and came back with 50% off on first 5 months. So that's $72.50 saving.

I'm ready for some negs since I'm renewing so they may have given me a better deal.. but even if you're not, isn't it worth trying?

Really? I think it's a very decent price for a capable piece of technology. Yes it has been superseeded by the S2, however, the S is a standout smartphone. For $29 w/ $450 of credit it's a steal IMO.

        Who negged him? Wow..

    • This is a better deal than what is advertised on Virgin Mobile's web site, which itself was featured here a couple of times.

The only problem I see is that this was a specific offer to the OP and may not be available to others.

I don't see how it's a borderline scam. It's nothing like a Foxtel deal, where you're sucked in by the platinum package for 6 months.

exactly - saying its a borderline scam and then providing no alternative?

maybe he thinks that paying $699 for the phone outright and then joining prepaid for $30 a month is a better idea? (even then you dont get as many credits as on this plan)

  • Good on you.
I've just signed up on the same plan, but without the discount.

Did you go to a Virgin store or ring them?

    • It was done over the phone.

  • Seems good enough, one vodafone ATM. Good first post :)

  • total is $623.50 after all discounts, might get $30 more with friend referral.

  • My friend signed up for the same deal, sold the S1 on ebay for a decent amount then bought the new HTC phone from o/s. He was only out of pocket $60 he reckons…not a bad idea

  • hmmm…. all their post paid plans seem to have changed…. what happened to the smart cap, easy cap etc?

No doubt they'll comment that these plans are easier to understand…… I can understand they don't seem to have anywhere near as good value as the previous ones….

smart cap used to have unlimited texts to any network and 1g of data for $29…

    now….

Fair go plans - big on data

$29 gets you no texts (now 28c) to other networks and a piddly 250mb….. big on data….. I think not!

Have been a happy virgin customer for many years….. however, I'm not sure I''d recommend these plans to anyone.

    • Their new plans are not great for me as I want data over credit but if you make a lot of calls or text a lot the $29 big plan is very good value.

I've just left Virgin mobile after 10 years with them, I found everytime they change their plans they get more expensive, while other providers have been getting cheaper. Plus, they were charging $2,000 per GB of excess data a couple of months ago, and probably still are.

that problem is solved by not going over or getting a bigger cap.

  • I think 250mb is too little for me to enjoy my smartphone. But if you don't need the latest and greatest gadgets and don't plan to stream video, then this could be a good deal for you.

Interested consumers should also look at the Nexus S available on a $29 a month contract from Vodafone http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/Nexus-S

the new 29$ plan it is much better than my 35$ virgin plan which only includes 200mb and 160$ call, and the galaxy s is pretty same as my iPhone 3gs.

This is the Galaxy S1 which has now been replaced by the Galaxy S2 so you are buying a phone on a 2 year contract that is already superceeded.

As a deal, they have been running 50% off for 5 months for the past few weeks to clear the older stock, but you can also get that deal on the SGS2 if you order online and find the right link on the virginmobile website.

Whilst it is free on the $29 plan, the SGS2 is only $5 on the $49 and free on higher plans making it more worthwhile for the newer technology and more data / call allowance.

However, if you only have $29 to spend per month, it is a great deal on a superb phone - just headover to xda-developers to improve the performance of it :)

Why get the SGS when you can get the SGS 2 for cheaper??? There was a SGS 2 deal on here 2 weeks ago, the price was less than $500.

    • that was a one off deal and out of stock

  • I'd rather go SGS2…especially since this deal would mean i'd be stuck with Virgin for 2 years and their terrible rates.

  • SGS2 only 760 on 12month with vodafone

    • <nevermind>
      Found it.
      </nevermind>

  • i would rather go 12 months, you always end up going over your limit some way or another so the less contract time the less chances you'll choke extra charges

  • When they had the same offer around 2 weeks to a month ago and you read the terms and conditions, the offer didnt include the Big Plan $29/mo. w/t $450 credit. I tried and they wouldn't do it. Also the current offer of 3 months free doesnt include the Big Plan $29 either:

    EDIT: Im a new customer

  • comparitively, the 'Big Plan' plan looks like the best $29 cap you'll find around.

    http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/telcos-slugged-fo…

  • best $29 cap? seriously?

Live connected offers more call credit ($400) and a hell of a lot more data for only $15 per month with no contract

for $29 per month you get a whopping $740 calls and 3gb data…no contracts, and buy the phone of your choice (i picked up a week-old SGS2 for $580 and am now enjoying the savings)

the vodafone 12 month contract deal for the SGS2 isnt too bad, but vodafone still havent sorted their network out.

    • Tried to get this by calling their call centre. They wouldn't offer the 5 months 50% off. Anyone been succesfful?
