What if I got my new iPhone 11 Pro through Vodafone ?? Am I still eligible for this ??

    • +8

What if i got the iphone 11 pro through telstra?

      • +7

What if I got the iPhone 11 pro through optus?

        • Yes, it's associated with Apple ID.

        • +11

What if I got the iPhone 11 through this guy Dave on the corner?

          • +2

@Tacooo: Apparently ok from a non-Apple source as above.
            - From Dave around the corner
            - PS. You owe me

            • @dangerdanger: What if you got your phone from a carrier in 2018 but didn't actually pay off the phone until now?
I'm giuessing not but I mean according to optus i didn't own the phone until contract was finished.

  • +1

You are eligible even if you got through a carrier (Optus, Vodaphone, Telstra etc)

  • -1

What is the cheapest device and how much?

    • +1

You didn't specify what sort of device, but:
Apple TV HD - $209, though for 4K & to be more future proof you'd be better of getting an Apple TV 4K - $249.

        • +8

Totally different product. Apple TV has a whole app platform so you can do a lot of things Chromecast can't do.

      • I thought that we have to buy an Apple device first? Should we also buy the actual apple tv device too ?

        • +3

an Apple TV is an Apple device, you can buy any new Apple device and you'll get the free 12 month trial.

You can then watch Apple TV+ (the streaming service) on any device that supports Apple TV+ (eg Samsung TVs, Roku etc)

        • Just another way for Apple to screw you over.

  • Just read a pre/review of the Apple TV+ offering.

Interesting approach to obviously spend up big on new shows with 'Morning Wars' (known as 'Morning Show' elsewhere apparently) being the flagship offering with Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell.
Most of the shows will only have an episode or three initially available, with new episodes released weekly.
No back catalogue of old movies or sitcoms.

There is also a rumour that initial subscription (with credit card) will get you a free trial for one week.

  • What if I return the product within 14 days

    • I know with subscription refunds they generally don't terminate the sub and rather just let it expire. A mate of mine got 3yr of NordVPN then found it cheaper online so asked for a refund and got it. Still has a 3yr sub on his apple id.

Worst case you're just out some money for a little while (getting awefully close to Black Friday deals); unless you've got the funds on zippay cause then you don't have to front a cent.

  • But shouldn't new users be able to active their free 1 year trial as mentioned in this deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/482985

    • Same deal, this is more or less a duplicate of that.

  • +1

Do apple refurbs purchased from Apple count?

  • +1

    This feels like a dupe.

    • They announced it at their event in September

  • So I purchased an Apple iPhone 11 Pro from the Apple story mid October. Am I eligable & how can I claim?

    • Just a minute, I'll read the Terms and Conditions for you … [typing] …

      • Yeah I read them all after I posted lol :) Thanks

    • Since you bought after 10th September you are eligible but not sure how to get it.

  • +2

What if I bought my Apple TV in October…..2012?

  • +2

If you cancel during your free year, you and your family members will immediately lose access to Apple TV+ and the remainder of your one-year free trial.

    Sneaky.

    • +2

They say this, but I think it may just be a deterrent? I cancelled my Apple Music trial about a week or two before it was due to charge me (just in case I forgot), and it continued to work as usual for approximately the full period of the trial. Obviously don't bank on it, but just fyi. :)

      • +1

Cancelled my apple arcade subscription and immediately lost access to the service, and forfeited the free trial. So I would expect this to function the same way, as it says.

        • Can confirm this doesn’t happen - I cancelled mine and it still says expired nov 2020

  • +2

I got in touch with Apple and they said any device bought after 10th September is eligible.

    • probably works based on the day you create/associate your appleId with a new phone rather than the purchase date

  • +1

Yes refurbs count in this deal. Basically buy anything that is not a peripheral item (headphones, cases etc) and you get the free year. Apple don't really care about subscriptions at this point. They want eyeballs, this ensures they sell more hardware. Apple is always about hardware. The new iPhone now comes with slick new TV shows… So the $2000 phone is now 5% cheaper with free subscription. Services will eventually take over but right now they will give the service away.
They have so little content they are dropping episodes on a weekly basis. Netflix will drop more in November than Apple will drop in a year… It will be interesting to see if the Apple brand can extend to TV. The initial reviews of their flag ships shows 'The Morning Show', 'See' would say otherwise.

    • Does this mean I can simply register a device on another account that didn't exist before and it'd work? I.e. Switch the apple tv from my account to my girlfriends and she'd get it as a new device is now there?

Seems like it be easy to abuse if refurb devices are included.

      • +1

Offer must be claimed in the Apple TV app within three months of first setting up your new device.
That means the device has not been activated before (activation will record the serial number in Apple system). This is about device, not account. So no, will not work for refurb.

  • +3

I know you can't watch AppleTV+ on an Apple watch, but seems a bit unfair it's not included considering it's more expensive to purchase than an Apple TV, iPod and an iPad.

  • What's the cheapest product that can be purchased that is eligible for this offer?

  • +3

    This is a dupe: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/482985

Don’t know why the other one was marked expired when it hadn’t even started yet.

  • When you say, purchased before the 2nd of Nov, do you actually mean activate? If I bought one last week in the duty free shop in Sydney airport, but didn't activate it until someday after the 2nd of Nov, would I still be eligible ?

  • I thought this was for a free Apple TV, but looks like you only get the subscription.

    • I thought it was a free Granny Smith!

  • Anyone know if it's per device? i.e. get 2 years if you get an iPhone and a Watch?

    • Literally the third dot point in the terms & conditions.

  • I’m guessing Apple TV+ won’t let you push to chromecast?

    • +1

Nope it wont …. The only way you can push to chromecast is if you are watching on Chrome web browser on your PC and cast to chromecast from within browser.

  • From this, it appears that if you activate a previously unactivated device, regardless of when it was bought (say you buy an unactivated cheap older model iPhone/ipad/Apple Tv from a private seller), you may be able to get TV+
Offer must be claimed in the Apple TV app within three months of first
setting up your new device. The offer will appear when you sign in with
your Apple ID on your new device.

Then there is this clause, how would they know if/when you purchased from an Apple reseller unless you have to submit the receipt (does not say anywhere that you have to).
Any new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac capable of running
the latest iOS, iPadOS, tvOS or macOS and purchased after
10 September 2019 from Apple or an Apple authorised reseller.

Interesting if someone with such device try and put up their success (or not) here.

    • +1

i think the initial connection of youy device to apples server will log your product so theoretically any device not setup with itunes or connected to internet should work..
in saying this who would buy a device and not connect to use it…..

      • There are several private sellers (on EBay and Gumtree) selling unopened Apple stuff (unwanted presents, bonus gifts from buying bigger items, or they bought for the mobile plans/free gift cards and resell the phones etc)

  • What if I set up a new Hackintosh;-)

    • if refurbs are counted how would they know if a device never used with log in is not a refurb… food for thought :)

      • Hackintosh !== refurb

      • Serial numbers would have been activated when the device is first used. Check Apple serial number web site.

  • All this discussion about devices etc., when the 'product' on offer is a(nother) streaming service.
    Is it worth it?

    • Of course because the service is free if you have the right device.

      • +1

Only if there is something that you will watch

    • Only if you’re buying or have bought an Apple product already.

      • apparently you don’t need new device purchase at all, I just tried with my spare phone which is last year’s iPhone Xs Max on a different Apple ID from my iPhone 11 Pro Max’s, and it worked!
tried posting a deal but flagged as duplicated so leave comment here instead

        • +1

Are you sure it is the one year, not the 7-day free trial?

  • -1

I love how quick the mods are to close spammy posts or dupe posts with less votes… but as soon as they gain traction and a few votes, moderation goes out the window lol

    • +1

It appears it was my fault for not putting a 'long expiry' on my original post about this deal a month or so back. So my original post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/482985 about this deal expired, and this thread emerged. Oh well, I know for next time…

  • +3

Looks like they've launched early in Australia, service is up now.

  • +1

Ive just watched the first episode of Morning Wars. It didn't ask me to sign up, confirm membership, payment details etc. I clicked and show started on an old apple tv. I wonder if it's because Ive got apple music student subscription. Did others need confirm anything before start watching?

    • +3

Apple TV+ is bundled with Apple Music student plans for free.

    • I watched 2 episodes before it asked me to sign up.

  • apparently you don’t need new device purchase at all, I just tried with my spare phone which is last year’s iPhone Xs Max on a different Apple ID from my iPhone 11 Pro Max’s, and it worked!

    • +1

Are you sure it is the one year, not the 7-day free trial?

Here’s how to get your free year of Apple TV+
Open the TV app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV (running the latest software)
Tap or click on a new Apple original like The Morning Show or SEE
Choose Enjoy 1 Year Free (7-day free trial for those who haven’t purchased a new device)
Tap or Click Continue, then Confirm the free year
Alternately, head to tv.apple.com, sign-in in the top right corner, then activate your free trial

      • Hmm good description, but even though just bought new mac last month says "you are not qualified to receive hardware offer…" whenever i try and watch something. Then i receive an email saying
" You’ve purchased the following subscription with a 1‑year free trial:
        Subscription Apple TV+
Date of Purchase 01 November 2019
Introductory Offer Free for 1 year
        Subscription Price $7.99/month starting 01 November 2020
        Payment Method Store Credit

but still won't play on anything?!?

Edit: Force quit app fixed problem.

Edit edit: Also worth highlighting as I went to cancel so I wouldn't be charged next year -

        If you cancel during
your free year, you and your family members will immediately lose
access to Apple TV+ and the remainder of your one-year free trial. You
        can’t reactivate this trial.

  • I bought my iPhone 11 pro max first day of the launch, just opened my TV app this morning and I have been offered 1 year free subscription

    • Me too. And I probably won't use it because I have to buy a $250 Apple TV Box or watch a video on my tiny iphone screen which I won't do.

      • You can play it on PC from web version of Apple TV

        • say no more!

        • Did it ask you to verify with a credit card before allowing you to stream on the web version? Any way to bypass that cause I don't have a credit card myself..

          • @cheeconay: I activated the subscription from my iPhone, and this requires Apple ID, however I'm not 100% sure whether you are required to validate a credit card with your Apple ID.

      • Also plays on PC, Samsung Smart TV, Roku, and FireTV.

  • Would an Apple TV 4K "purchase" - using points from the Qantas Frequent Flyer store - be eligible for this offer?
    https://www.qantasstore.com.au/p/apple-mp7p2x-a-tv-4k/179624

    • Yes because as far as apple is concerned you purchased a new device. They don't care what was used to purchase the device. Effectively Qantas buys it from Apple anyway, like any other retailer.

  • +1

A month back I had my iPhone SE completely replaced at an Apple Store. Now I see this offer on it as well.

So this might work on new devices that you didn't buy, just had replaced recently.

    • Had my Mac in for repair and got the email too.

  • +1

Tried to watch on a first gen Apple TV and it kept skipping and then desyncing video/audio/subs…

    • I've tried countless times now to stream to my AppleTV from my phone and I keep getting an error saying "error loading content" …. It wont even allow me to mirror screen and play the content …. Classic Apple, forcing you to buy the newest Apple TV so you can use their streaming service …. I am just using my PC (chrome web browser) and casting to my chromecast from that …. The Apple TV Plus format is glitchy AF …. the have some major fixing up to do if they wanna compete

      • I was talking about with the Apple TV app, no AirPlay

  • I can confirm that an Apple device first activated in the last month or so, will get get the Apple TV+ offer, no need for purchase receipt from an authorised Apple store/reseller. Bought an open box ipad box and activated it last month. Now seeing the offer popped up on my phone.

  • can u sell itto someone else?

  • -1

nothing to watch… so crap. Movies still have to pay.

  • 11th November here haven’t purchased a new device got the email and got the 1 year free.

  • I bought an iPhone 11 pro and just got email.

  • anyone register for it yet? can you download for offline viewing? and how do you share your account?

  • Has anyone cancelled yet? Does the subscription continue despite what is says above?

    • +1

No it’ll cancel straightaway. Set up a reminder or tie a thread on your finger.

  • I already had a paid subscription before purchasing an iPad mini 5th gen. Is there a way to redeem the free subscription with my existing account?

Nevermind, existing subscription was Disney+. Got the free Apple TV offer in app.
