Bought one a month ago for $198 on a 6 hour Harvey Norman special (claimed RRP $398). On paper the specs looks great but in reality the Viewsonic software lets it down. Because the Viewsonic is not google certified there's no google market, maps, gmail etc. You can get it working but only with lots of research, it’s the same as the Advent Vega sold in the UK so you can try that ROM as well. The nvidia recovery makes it virtually impossible to brick so it’s great for playing around. Also no GPS and a number of sensors are lacking so some games don't work. Sorry to sound so negative but for a little more money you can get units with all the bells and whistles and no compromises. I'm happy with my Viewsonic.. but I only paid a couple of hundred bucks for it.

    Just on 4hrs battery.
    No Google Marketplace.
    No GPS.
    Cheaper elsewhere.

Crap unit, crap software, crap deal.

For that price I'll stick with my Transformer.

    • Memory: 512MB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM installed
      512MB NAND Flash storage onboard

Doesnt make it look better either !

    • USB + HDMI ports, Tegra graphics, it's not exactly barebones…
And where do you get just 4hrs of battery from?
The only thing really crap about it that I can see is the OS but if you don't care about running on Honeycomb (and bugger all takes advantage of it anyway) it's less than half the price of a comparable Transformer.

      • WOOHOO! A USB port and HDMI on a computer in 2011! Totally radical dude!

I get 4hrs of battery life from using the unit. We have two or three at work.
The usability of this unit is just ridiculous. The unit feels cheap and the viewing angle is horrible but it's more the OS skin overlay that lets it down.

A crap OS will make a unit crap and crap hardware will make a unit just as crap but for a different reason. Unfortunately this unit suffers from both.

Lol and it's not less than half, you can get a 16gb Transformer for $449. Shop around dude.
16gb Transformer for $449 VS 512MB 10s for $349.95… I'll happily pay an extra $100 for 16GB HDD, TWICE the RAM, GPS, a few sensors, more battery and a ton more quality.

  • I got one of these a month or so ago for $375 and it is running vegacomb but no market yet.
Decent device for the money in my opinion.

U can get the windows 7 version of this for around the $400 mark if you look around…

    • Full access to Google market if you installed Cyanogen ROM. IMO, it is the best ROM for the Viewpad 10s. I said so because I have done it.

      • I'll install it on the weekend and see how I go.
Why do you think its better? I've only used vegacomb so far…

  • it may be a good deal, but not a good tablet.
it seems to me only asus transformer (may be galaxy 10.1 as well, haven't look at it yet) is the only tablet close to ipad2.
