  • Amazing deal

  • I'm hardly know anything about computers and their specs. But I need to purchase one desktop to play games and do some data analysis. Is this computer better than TechFast deals? Thank you very much for the advice.

    • +3

      It is not

    • +1

HP quality control is not what it used to be but they are still orders of magnitude above a consumer parts assembler like techfast

      • +16

I think "orders of magnitude" may be a bit over the top. I'd say the increased chance of having issues with the techfast builds over this one wouldn't be massive (and anything would be under warranty). TF will, I expect, run BIT or similar on their builds which will will pick up the majority of defects (granted not all).

Unless money wasn't much of an issue, it's hard to recommend this over the TF ones for a purely gaming PC.

        • Thanks.

        • +7

I look at like this - if I was recommending a PC to someone that has admitted no tech savvy and I didn't want to do IT support for them for the next 5 years I'd tell them to get a name brand.

          • -5

@iratepirate: Not really, if a psu died few days after pc arrive, TF will send replacement the next day. With HP, min 5 working days to process and will send at the end of the 5th day. That is if u successfully explain the problem (and troubleshooting) with a person who has bad English (they outsource the support division outside Aus).

            • +1

@d3n0tz: How's someone who isn't tech savvy going to replace their PSU though? HP comes with 1 year on-site service, extendable to 3 years.

            • @d3n0tz: Really? is that why people had to wait weeks if not over a month to get their orders shipped from TF in the first place? what makes you confident they won't be the same withe warranty? and several people have posted on ozb about dead components with their deals within weeks. Their prices are low because they don't include a hard drive, they use the worst PSUs from a brand called 'Allied' and motherboards from Biostar (albeit a popular brand in China, they're still the very lowest end)

              • @Ostrk: Hp parts are from China. Their mobo n psu is no name brand and most of the mobo cant br upgraded because they r using perpetual mobo and even soldered ram (in some cases).
But hey, Im guessing u have HP pavilion pc and you're happy with it. So congrats!

                • +1

@d3n0tz: I don't have a HP PC nor a techfast one, but I really don't think it's fair to praise a brand like angels when they do the same bad things other manufacturers do. They're all using cheap shit motherboards, psus and cases for most of their low/mid end systems that are just terrible and much worse than the lowest end alternatives from reputable part brands.

                  • @Ostrk: I just state the fact based on my experience. Bought TF pc and has problem with psu. But 6 mnths later its still going well.
And experience with HP pc? Well I have to tick the "associated with HP" checkbox then… :)

        • As someone who has supplied thousands of pcs to businesses over the past 20 years, orders of magnitude isn't that far from the truth.
I have thousands without hardware issues, yet most of mine and my friends gaming machines have some problems every few years…
That said if reliability is key, just get an HP elitedesk, of a Z series workstation if graphics is a factor.

          Edit. Wormstation is not a thing… 😂

I went with TF and am regretting the purchase months later. Mobo and GPU have failed already.

          • @Jamesrulez1: Unfortunately that's a spot of bad luck =( GPUs failing aren't unheard of for the 20xx series, but the mobo is a rarity. I wouldn't pin that down to TF however. If the parts made it a few months, no testing they could have done would pick that up.

Would be interesting to hear back how you go with the repair process with TF.

      • -1

Yeah, I don't think it's minimum 100 times better bro.

        • +4

I've given myself -1 for hyperbole.

      • +1

HP QC on any consumer range has always been abysmal, shoddy build quality, cheap components, notoriously bad support. Ive been so many trashed pavilions in the last 15 years, cheap plastic rubbish. Specs always look good but rubbish product

    • +7

As a comparison to a tech fast deal this is roughly ~$400 more than what I paid for a tech fast option beginning of this year for comparable specs.

Mine hasn't skipped a beat, the deals are far better now too; and tech fast do have great support with Luke.

If you're happy spending that much more, go for it! As is known some tech fast parts are budget, but the price to upgrade the power supply is under $100 and maybe an hour of your time. (Or finding a mate who knows, judging from your comment)

Trying to be unbiased, am happy to help with other questions you may have too.

      • +1

Thank you very much. I was really interested to know how much this setup would cost from Techfast. Now I feel like I will choose Techfast for their value. Great advice.

        • +2

I can't guarantee it but maybe wait until Black Friday Sales 29/11 or Cyber Monday 02/12…

Hopefully you will be able to find some ripper deals then ???

    • +1

I'd go techfast. There doesn't appear to be much ventilation with this one.

  • -5

This PC doesn't physically look very big, I'd say it would either have A. Thermal issues or B. Noise issues.

    • Its actually bigger than a Dell Optiplex Mini Tower..

      Its
      15.4 x 37.5 x 36.9 cm

      Dell Opti 7040 mini tower
      15.4 x 27.4 x 39.1 cm

Eh come back when your name is Luke.

Mixed reviews for the previous model here:
    https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B076BXQDJZ/ref=acr_dp…

Complaints about QC, underpowered power supply and USB ports failing/breaking with normal use.

HP's premium gaming brand is Omen, where as this is a Pavillion.

What you have to realize with these "amazing" deals from HP and Dell is that they're clearing out the stock that didn't move so they can replace with newer. So it's not necessarily going to be their best machines.

I will say that if it comes to a fight over ACL, I'd rather put in a complaint against a large company than a small one.

  • HP and Dell, which one has better quality?

    • +11

      I vote Dell.

    • +1

Purchased twice from each over the years, easily Dell.

      HP is so shitze.

  • +7

And $500 worth of bloatware that you'll either opt for a fresh install of windows or run a tool for an hour to remove.

    • -4

This. HP sucks, i'd rather pay an extra $200 and build something myself.

    • just use ur own hdd?

There's a reason why it's so cheap - 8th gen i7! Only 6 cores, whereas 9th gen is 8 cores. Already obsolete. Plus 2 sticks of RAM likely means it can't be upgraded (forcing customers to go out and buy another Dell, no doubt part of the logic there) as the motherboard probably only has 2 slots.

  • how do you use the disc drive when it's vertical?
i'd be worried about it falling out as you close the tray

  • "Was $2998"

    LOL

  • Good deal but there is no way I'd pay 3k for those specs
