Any feedback on the Kmart wi-fi fan ($89)

Am interested in this comparison too - especially since the Kmart ones work with Google Assistant.

    • I have this one, works just fine for me with Google Assistant. Wide range of adjustable speeds, remote, sleep timer. Mine rattles a bit though, I think I didn't install the blades right and they're a bit loose. Haven't been bothered to fix it since I literally sleep through everything.

Got the previous model via OzB last year - Dec 2018.

Works well and a bonus that it plays nicely with Mi Remote on my venerable Redmi4x. Hope the new one does too!

    • Different model - Kogan is being sneaky and pretending they are the same.

      • I shall quietly hope that it turns out well and doesn't turn out to be a 'POS'. Otherwise…

        • Reading the description of this one.. I'd cancel the order.

          This one:
+ 12 Versatile speeds with oscillation function

          Previous version:
+ Standard Mode: air speed is constant, as set by the wind level. 01-26 levels are standard.
+ Natural Mode: the fan will simulate natural winds, with windspeed changes which will create the feeling of being out in nature.
+ Sleep Mode: the fan will blow slowly and quietly, suitable for use during sleep.
+ Intelligent Mode: based on the temperature and wind speed when this mode is started, the speed will change according to the temperature. When the temperature is below 20°C, the fan will stop. If the temperature then rises above 20°C, the fan will start again.
+ Silent Mode : fan blows in silent mode; it has a total of nine levels for adjustment.

        • +1

OK. It has arrived and is assembled. Working.

          Comments:

          • Nowhere near as nice as build quality as the version I purchased a year ago.

          • Getting the guard to line-up and lock in place was not joyful.

          • Good to see that the Kogan logo is even bigger. But! It doesn't strobe OR flash. Be thankful.

          • Height adjustment seem to involve removing/adding sections of threaded tube. Very tasteful. Could have been cardboard. Again. Be thankful.

          • 'Loss' of additional speed steps is no issue. Bottom speed seems silent to my ear…

          • Seems to remember the last speed used - which is a (rare) plus.

Overall, fan seems decent. A pity that they saw fit to piggyback on the good reviews for the essentially unrelated earlier model (yes they are both fans - but qualitatively quite different in terms of build).

So. I'll keep it and mark down the review based on marginally ethical promotion of the product.

      • Kogan updated their fan this year, a bit like how iphones change…yea

        • Except it seems this updated fan has less features and not as good as the previous model.

    • Best fan I've ever had, but they haven't had stock for ages (I'd buy a couple more, at least). This one seems like it doesn't come close at all.

edit: This is the OG fan - https://help.kogan.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016052434-Kogan-…

i purchased this a couple hours ago but now that people are saying its a different model to the reviews I don't know if I should cancel.

surely the fan won't be that much different? even without the silent mode i don't think it will bother me, probably more quiet than my current fan which i sleep through fine

I'll give it a shot and post a review later

    • Okay I'm heated just realised this as well… oh well i still need one haha.

    • look forward to it

    • It's probably just improved from the last version.

I got a friend who used to work in their "innovation" department (a bit like the Aldi copy the best stuff department), and they regularly take on feedback and improve the product.

my guess is 30 speeds on the old fans is a bit too much, so they've culled it back, that's the only difference I can read from the description.

  • Have both the aldi and kogan (this version). I prefer kogan one to the aldi one - feels a better build than aldi. Also, aldi has a always on blue display - though not very bright. kogan display is auto off. Aldi has more settings than the kogan one.

    • The display on the Aldi goes off after a period of time and only shows a small green icon, think it says eco or something.
Well that's what the ones i have do anyway.
I only know as i went into to check on kids during the night and blue display was off.

  • Off topic but has anyone used the $100 cheap dyson ripoff kogan stick vacuums?

    Prices are appealing.

    • I reckon that's a rip off of the Dyson DC45, which was good for its times but even now considered old.

      maybe try this one

  • +1

wait for further drop or jump on ?

  • This deal has so many Fanboys….

  • If you want to use giftcard credits to pay for this fan, buy "Kogan First" alone first and then you can choose to use account credits to pay for it.

Otherwise, you have to pay $79 with your credit card to get both fan and membership.

  • I am looking for a fan to circulate some air on a hot day by placing it near a window or back/front door. Will something like this work or I need the floor sitting high velocity fan?

  • Damn i was about to pull the trigger on a good guys fan during click frenzy for $130, was looking for a pedestal fan with a timer. This is a good price and so many upvotes for this, are the ozbargain crew trustworthy?

    • +1

Absolutely not, features and benefits suit different people. Do your own research and buy the features that benefit your household.

    • +1

This has a timer, the question is what are your other requirements. Read the reviews here, this is super quiet (which doesn't suit everyone, some people like the noise of fans). Also this is likely to push a lot of air around, creating breeze like feature.

      Each to their own.

Just bought one. Hopefully this will be comparable to my mum Kambrook DC Fan (Model: KPF849WHT) which I purchased for her last Christmas, that fan is blood awesome. My sister has the sunbeam FA8900 DC fan which while is a good fan as well, I can hear the bearings on the lower setting, she doesn't mind it though.

  • Code still working 33 mins after supposed expiry. Happy to get one. At least I have got use of the trial membership for $79 delivered. Thanks OP.

  • Hopefully, the more expensive fans don't fail after 2 years. (I did say hopefully.)

    • Use the Australian Consumer Law if it does fail my friend. I would expect a expensive fan to last more than a couple of years.

  • Any comparison on the kmart smart fan $89 vs the bunnings arlec dc fans? Looking to pick one of those up.

  • +4

Bought one last week for $89 (incl. shipping) and they didn't allow the price guarantee unfortunately with the Click Frenzy offer.
That aside, i am happy thus far with this model. Display turns off automatically after a selection is made. Fan speed is good and at lower speeds is truly quiet. With an air con on it circulates the cold air very well. It may not have all the features as some of the others have mentioned with the previous Kogan model, however as someone that has neither the old Kogan or a Kambrook fan, I am this far happy with my $90 fan. Just my 2 cents :-)

  • Hmmm, how much energy efficiency do you need? I mean most household fans run between 20 and 40 watts consumption. So we are maybe talking about a $1 energy saving over a year but pay $80 more for the fan? it doesn't add up. It's like getting rid of your blender to buy a nutribullet.

    • +1

Energy saving is minimal and irrelevant - the speed selection and quietness is where this stands out

  • Assembled it correctly and turned it on. The clear plastic fan blade wobbles a bit and makes a ticking sound at all speeds (the blades are not contacting the cage) :(. So much for a "premium" product. The motor is indeed quiet but the fan blades are the achilles heel and likely have poor quality control.

I have a Mistral fan with similar shaped blades made of opaque plastic that wobble more, but they do not tick.

I notice I cannot submit a review which would mean they probably have a system like Gearbest or Banggood where you apply to be a reviewer via places like Facebook groups in return for rewards. Regular customers have no way to share their experience.

    • +1

Send it back and get another one. I bought one as well and have none of the problems you've outlined. It's extremely quiet, and there is no ticking or wobbling. You've either got a dodgy one, or you've put it together incorrectly.

  • ahoy, my fan arrived today.

it doesn't work and gives an error code - e6.

has anyone else had this? or know how to resolve it?

    the blades do not spin.

    • for anyone who might search for this error code issue.

Kogan replied to my email and upon reviewing a video of the error have confirmed its defective and are sending a replacement.
