Air Asia sale on!

Dates: Feb-Jun 2020

Remember Air Asia is a low cost carrier, so food and checked luggage is not included.

However, their onboard food is cheap, and from personal experience, amazing - try the Nasi Goreng!

Consistently the best airplane food I've ever had.

Wow - AirAsia food isnt that good guys…

Note this is "AirAsia X", which is a step up from Air Asia.

Why all the fuss over airline food? Nobody ever had a great meal crammed into an economy seat, full-service or budget. But it is not as terrible as urban legend makes out. Will do if you forgot to pack your own.
Though more likely, they fly at unsociable hours when you'd rather just sleep.

So much great food in Malaysia on any budget. No reason to fuss over the airline food, which is rarely great and rarely inedible.

I find your comment to be sensible and well-considered.

    • Agree, I usually just have a good meal at the airport just before flying and get a subway etc for late in the flight. They don't allow outside food but never been questioned and I fly every few months.

X in fact is a step down from the Air Asia domestic flights as X has tiny leg room.

      • Nah, it’s the other way. X is 32” seat pitch which is up there with full service carriers and AA domestic is 29”.

I fly on them a few times a year and have to get the exit or front row seats on AA, even for a 45 min flight.

Hopefully better than Scoot - overpriced and tiny.

    • Scoot has the Boeing Dreamliner from Perth, which I found good. Pay a little extra for more legroom if you are taller than average.
Prices are highly seasonal of course.

I was referring to the meals :) The flight prices are decent as I've flown from Europe on Scoot and the flight was OK but cramped without the extra legroom

        • Much safer on Scoot IMHO. AirAsia has had many incidents.

      • I flew on Scoot's dreamliner, worst flight ever. It was so noisy even through my noise cancelling headphones.

    • It's hard to get worse than Scoot. Where they don't even give you water for free even though their in-flight menu recommends to drink lots to stay healthy/hydrated.

      • I actually had a diabetic low on the way to land and they said they couldn't get anything sweet for me to drink cos they were all sealed off and refused to budge. Luckily a passenger came to the rescue.

    try the Nasi Goreng

They named a meal after the Chinese Emperor who built the great wall to keep the rabbits out?

    • +2

      Hehe I remember that one!

    • AirAsia's Nasi Lemak is the best! order that next time.

  • +1

    no deals from melb?

  • It's the nasi lemak that's decent. Chicken rice also good

  • Not for Melbourne?

Any examples of Sydney to Kuala Lumpur dates? Tried various dates and nothing under $450~ for me.

    • It's over, red rover?

    • 8 to 11 March, for example?

      • Thanks. I was searching for 10 to 14 days, maybe that's why I didn't find any.

      • Interesting. I only see flights starting with $2xx each way.

        • Same here. Can't find any flights in May for under $300 return :/

  • Getting a return flight is the same fare as buying separately.
If you have an account already (Big Log in), do sign in and members might see a lower fare.

Bad experience with Air Asia, misdirected by two separate cabin staff at their home airport. Resulted in missed connecting flight which had to be purchased again plus accomodation. $1000 additional costs on Day 1 of a holiday. Be wary of this operator

    • +2

How did they misdirect you when direction signs are really clear in the airport

  • Pay a bit more and go for Hot Seat and Quiet Zone!

They are starting to get their new A330NEOs, so hopefully they'll start flying to Europe again. We flew to London with them in 2010 - $1750 return for 3 people including luggage, meals, seat allocation etc.

  • Uncle Chin's chicken is very good and about $9 last time I flew.
And the food at KLIA and KLIA2 is really good, and affordable.
