    • what does it mean 'must be purchased in same transaction'?

If you buy the sim with the recharge, you'll get the sim for free, so you'll save an extra $2.

Juggling between the Optus 150 for 150gb vs this.

Leaning towards Optus as they have better roaming(I'm expecting to travel a bit this year).

    But boost uses Telstra (full)

    • How much is the Optus 150gb

I don't need international anymore just local calls and texts and lots of data.

Been using up to 12gb monthly lately so I don't think the 80gb over 12 months will suit me anymore (6.66gb roughly per month if spread evenly).

      • You can get this then… $15 for 30GB per month… and it rolls over

        https://boost.com.au/shop/30-prepaid/

        finishes COB 16-Dec though…

        • Can I combine the plans or do I need to use two sim cards two sim slots?

$15 for 20gb is not bad so I will be paying about $27 per month total for 20gb + 6.67gb per month.. Do you know if it is $15 ongoing or only for the first recharge.

20gb per month with roll over would be honestly perfect for me if it is $15/month for the life of the plan which for my use case scenario should last me 30 months or until my data appetite grows higher.

Long train commutes and lots of walking means lots of discord voice channel listening in to subside the boredom.

Also might start using my Netflix and YouTube more freely if I have more data to use.

Thanks for the heads up jv.

Edit: just checked the details more and it is only for the initial purchase and two succeeding recharges so great for a short term solution but not great for a long term solution which I need.

Need something more set and forget friendly.

Thanks anyways maybe someone else can use this.

      • See below

    • Can you plz link us to 150 for 150gb?
      I found 150 for 120gb $150 for 120gb.

Also are you sure optus prepaid roaming is better than boost roaming? If so how/why?

  • Is there an expiry date on when the recharge has to be used by?

I don’t have to recharge till April 20

    • +2

Usually a good 12+ months….and in the meantime will probably see this deal pop up many times between then and now.

    • +4

I purchased this recharge the other week, its expiry is 18/07/2021.

      • Thanks for this.
Is the expiry printed on the outside or do you need to open to find out?

        • Is the expiry printed on the outside

It is a recharge that is just a print out from the register like a receipt. Not hidden at all.

        • I did it at the self serve checkout, it's a voucher code printed on the receipt.

    • I just purchased one today and it has that same date as mentioned by imperfect - 18/07/2021. I don't know where that date comes from! You don't see it until you've purchased as it's printed on the receipt/voucher. Coles staff had no idea about expiry - some guessed six months.

  • can i actually buy this and use it as a new customer porting in from Catch in 2 months time.

    • Yup and should be easy as Catch is Optus hence porting (assuming you want to) only takes 20mins if even.

    • yes, make sure you buy the sim with the recharge, to get the sim for free.

  • +2

    Good for current boost users.

  • How does the data work? Is it once the 80gb used up that's it or is it month to month like tpg?

    • Instead of the usual 28 days you have twelve months to use the 80 GB. Of course, if you use up the data sooner then you can recharge.

    • You can switch to any of their plans when you run out of data, including another 80Gb 12 month plan.

  • Damn I bought it just last night for 1y!

  • +3

I am waiting for offer $240 for 240gb comes back again… much much better than this…

    • +1

      much much better than this…

only for ppl that need that much data

  • My current Boost deal expires in April and I’ll be trying to switch back to Kogan for sure.

My wife is still with Kogan and ALWAYS has better signal than me with Voda than I get with this “full” Telstra network. I agree with comments above, I very much doubt this is the full network.

    • nothing to do with the hardware, it is all about location. Low network usage on Vodafone might work to her advantage. Both Kogan and Boost are just airtime resellers. I was once at GRL mobile, long time ago but enjoyed fastest data due to Voda being less relevant and less used.

  • Thanks op, good deal. Just wondering Boost is a virtual network operator like Aldi. Do members think this should go in the title? How does it compare to Aldi? Aldi is definitely a VNOP with cutback supplies. Is Boost better than Aldi? Anybody compared the 2?

reason I am asking is Optus re sellers like Amaysim and Coles get a sour deal during high network use. Telechoice is perhaps the last one to get leftover bits from greedy Telstra.
I have seen Boost in the USA. There they are a very small player, at least in Florida.

    • +1

Boost uses Siebel the same as Telstra Retail, their reseller agreement is different to all the other virtual providers that use "part of the Telstra network" (aka Telstra Wholesale). My wife's Boost SIM works in a Telstra-locked phone but AldiMobile did not, so that at least shows Boost has a better agreement and "should" be identical to full Telstra.

    • +1

Boost uses full network of Telstra!

Officeworks has it back in stock. Just called 1300 OFFICE and pricebeat boost.com.au itself, down to under $129 delivered.

    • Thanks buddy. Just got it for 128.25 delivered!

    • +1

Thanks for this. Did you just mention 80Gb Boost Recharge or is there a part number you quoted? Reason I ask is that I can't tell if the product on the Officeworks website is the starter pack or the recharge.

  • How do you check existing data usage history with Boost? (I assume it would be the same under this 12mth plan.)

    • download boost app on your mobile.

      • +1

Hmm, maybe I should have said how do I get an aged parent to check existing data usage history.

        • +1

Download the boost app on their phone, show them where the boost app icon is, click on that icon. If connected to 4G (not wifi), the data usage will show up on opening of the app.

  • Have found coverage is great in Melbourne and in various semi rural locations i visit from time to time. e.g. Inverloch.

  • Hi everyone. I think this has been posted before but whats the procedure for porting from Telstra retail to Boost? (apart from porting to Optus or Vodafone) Do you need to get a special sim card from a Telstra shop?

    • Telstra shop doesn't deal with Boost customers any more. You have to ring Boost's SIM card team and they express a SIM to you, which you then ring up to transfer.

A word of warning for anyone wanting to keep using their existing handset and port their mobile number from another network onto Boost or another Testra reseller:

Do your homework regarding which network bands your handset is capable of, and which network bands your area is covered with.

Here’s what they DO tell you:

Boost’s Critcal Information Summary at https://boost.com.au/CIS_25022019.pdf says
“If you purchase a Boost Prepaid SIM you’ll need to have an 850MHz compatible handset for 3G access and LTE band 3 (1800MHz) and band 28 (700MHz) for 4G access.”
    Picture here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eot5b7ipyr2tp2q/Boost-network-band…

    At https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/check-imei, Telstra says
“To use the Telstra network you will need a device that is compatible with one or more of the following:
    3G 850MHz banding
4G 1800MHz and 4G 700MHz banding (notice the word ‘and’)
    5G 3.5GHz banding”

Telsltra’s 4G map at https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/our-coverage simply tells you if you are covered for 4G or not.

They lazily say all users have to have handset which covers 1800MHz AND 4G 700MHz band. They DON’T tell you that your hardware would work on 4G with only one of these two bands, but the catch is they DON’T disclose if your area is covered by the 700 MHz or the 1800 MHz band.

You can find out which bands you are covered with here: https://www.aldimobile.com.au/faq/#collapse-three

In my case, I was lead to believe 4G would work, but I’ve since learned that my area is covered by 700 MHz band NOT 1800 MHZ band, but my iPhone 5s works on 1800 MHz NOT 700 MHz, so this particular combination sucks because my service would be limited to 3G coverage. This leaves me with the options of upgrading my handset, which I wasn't ready to do, or using a different mobile network like Optus which does provide 4G on 1800 MHz in my area.

    • Yeah thats why i went to belong bands covered.

  • Why do people commit to a year?, a lot can change in that time. Also if a rogue app chews through your data long time to wait.

    • +2

………because. Actually, think about it, but in short is only $135 and incl all calls (nearly), voicemail, intl calls (incl mobile to 30 selected destinations) on the Telstra top tier network :-)

As for rogue apps. Well as it only incl 80GB for the year which is fine for many (not all), one could and probably should set a data limit (via you phone) to notify you if you reach xx amount of data over xx period of time eg. Set a daily or montly limit as a guide. You would then know if rogue app was present.

……..ane well $135 is a great price and so is $150 if you miss out. Prices I doubt will decrease over the next 12 months by much if at all (based on past 12).

Potential reason not to = 5G. I am not certain if this plan will include however even if it doesn't……does it really matter!

Sidenote: not sure why you were negged twice assuming it was a genuine question….in turn have a plus vote :-)

  • Can I port from Telstra plan? Is it easy?

    • +2

You could but easier (quicker/less hassle) if your Port out and the back in. Read previous Boost threads for more info (sorry for not incl link here).

  • +3

Don't forget to get it PM @ Office works. I did today and it came to around $128.

    • No stock in OW near me.

      • Order online.

      • +2

I meant call them up and order over the phone.

        • +1

Did it. Had to guide the guy on the phone to the Coles catalogue page (36), as the Boost website sale ended yesterday. Have to collect from local OW store, after delivery from warehouse tomorrow, which is fine. He said it would be a recharge pack - will see if that's the case, but no issue for me if it is not.

    • When you called, did you ask for the recharge pack? Can't see a recharge mentioned on their site so I was wondering if they have the starter or the recharge available.

    • Mate, what's the number to ring OW? TA

  • Can you port a number onto this service?

    • Yes.

      • Does anyone know the process of porting your number to this service?

        • +2

If you want to port your number to this re-charge/sim package make sure when you buy it from Coles you grab a $2 Boost sim and buy the $150 re-charge and sim together in same sale as then it will be $135 for both. Then go to Boost.com.au to activate sim online or via Live Chat if you prefer. Make sure you have valid id ( drivers lic/learners, medicare card etc ) and give correct current address and your DOB and just keep using old sim untill your signal is gone, then swap sims and set up/turn off your new Voicelmail.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Just did this and ported from kogan mobile across. Incredibly painless and was impressed that the boost SIM was active within about 2 minutes! That's a record for me….

            • @kacak: Great. Works painlessly most of the time with positive outcome within a few hours or just like in your case even a few minutes.

I am a long time monthly sim hopper and just had one of my worst ports this week porting into Telstra and my details and at Vodafone were all 100% normal, just telstra wanted to view my id so had an hour ( 90 Km ) round trip for that, assistant spend 5 mins sighting id and entering same info and voila, got confirmation txt 5 mins later and all finalized within the hour. Because I port so much, I always have to activate via live chat with Telstra/Boost, but this time in person in store haha.

Won't put me off porting, just mostly stay clear of Telstra/Boost until I go for a 6/12 month offer like this. Still have twenty or so Vodafone and Optus sim packs to use up first lol.

  • On this plan, it's great value—only downside is no ability to add overseas data roaming in any way.

Curious, where the description says: "Cheaper if you use flybuys points to purchase" - does this mean if you convert FlyBuys to dollars and use that to pay? Or is there an even better way?

Can get ow to price beat cellmate as well

    https://cellmate.com.au/product/boost-150-starter-kit/

    • successfully priced matched this for $126.35, thanks!

      • How did u get $126.35? 5% off shouldn’t it be $128.25?

    • Thanks got one. OW was refusing to price match Coles but accepts Cellmate. Even cheaper than Coles by $2!

  • If I buy this now, can I activate it n a few months time (when current plan finishes) and still get 1 yr expiry/usage?

    • Yes the sim I got expires in April 2021

    • SIM expiry is different to voucher expiry. Mine purchased tody and another user's (above) purchased weeks ago both have 18/07/2021 as voucher expiry.

  • I'm after a recharge - would be interested to know if Officeworks sells the recharge vouchers.

And also what expiry date the voucher expires.

    • The one I got from OW is the $150 starter-pack, not the recharge voucher.

  • This should work fine in a iPad?

  • Any complications with porting from kogan? My kogan plan expires today (I know cutting it close, got lazy), saw this deal and it's cheaper than kogan offers. Are there any reasons for me not to switch?

    • Pretty sure they've fixed their porting issues, so it should be done without too much fuss, but you may need to get it done soon - they tend to stop porting at 8pm each night.

      • Whoops. Is my phone number now gone forever unless I recharge with kogan tonight?

        • No… you'd just be without credit until the port is done.

  • Guys, seems like I can't find this in Sydney? Went to 2 Chatswood stores and Wynyard.

    • ……am fairly sure there are more that 3 stores n in Sydney :-). Call around if needed.

      • Yeah I know, but they said they don't keep track of this item and calling won't help. Just assumed i didn't have to try 3 different stores for something that's on catalog sale!

        • +1

I went to the coles at Parramatta and was told it is not available there. :(

          • +1

@colly: Hmm - I picked up a $2 SIM, and bought the $150 recharge for $135 total at marion. The deal is in the catalogue, however there are no " $150 for 80 Gig" packs available, you take the $2 SIM up and ask for the $150 recharge which should come to $135 until Xmas eve.

    • The store I went to just had $2 sims under the flyer for the deal. I was weary of how well boost would work for me (and my phone) so I bought the discounted $20 starter for $10 instead. I did try scan one of the $2 sims at self serve but it just came up with $2 sim (I wasn't sure if maybe a pop up would ask if I wanted the recharge too. Not sure if I grabbed the wrong sim or if I missed something but I wasn't planning on buying it yet anyway

    • +1

Did you go to the counter and ask? These recharges aren't available off the shelf

      • Thanks mate yeah i went to ask and finally got one

  • Noob question. I successfully ported from Telstra just now using the special blank sim from Boost. I also have a $300 loaded pre-paid sim bought from Boost as well. Now I want to recharge using the prepaid sim which has the mobile number already assigned to it but there's no 12 digit voucher number… Should I contact Boost to manually transfer? TIA

    • Mmmm…………you do indeed have a problem. The whole idea here was to buy the $150 top up/recharge and applying that credit to the blank SIM. Buying a Prepaid $300 sim wont work as the credit is already assigned to that SIM and doubt it can be transferred let alone split in two. Best call Boost and explain your issue. I am not sure they will be able to do anything. Is this what you are asking?

Side question: why would you buy a $300 prepaid sim i.e. what relationship does that have ro this deal?

      • Hey mate, Boost solved the issue by activating the $300 sim, transferred the credit to the existing number and deactivating the new number. Kudos to their customer service.

I have been always on post-paid so didn't realise the difference between recharge and pre-loaded prepaid sim. Rookie mistake being new to this prepaid game. My question wasn't related to this specific deal, possibly more suited to forum.

        • Great to hear. Their Cust Service is good.
As a matter of interest, how was the $300 applied "Package wise" as this thread is specifically about the $135 80GB on special deal? Did they apply two years i.e. $150 x 2 or just $300 top up/transfer to your prefered SIM?

  • How to price match this deal at Officeworks?

  • +2

Completed a port from Telstra post-paid to Boost today, process looked like this:

    1) Acquire Recharge from Coles (no need for SIM in this situation)
    2) Call Boost and let them know you will be porting from Telstra and they send out a blank sim (arrived in 1 day by registered mail)
    3) After postpaid expired, call TELSTRA (not boost) to change from postpaid to prepaid (5 min)
    4) Call Boost (125 8881) and activate sim that arrived in the mail (15 min on phone)
    - Notified at this point that porting number might take 4-24 hours.
    - This is the point where most people have issues in the threads, with this process occasionally taking weeks.
    - I waited 2 hours and the sim wasn't activated so I did a soft reset on the phone (iPhone X). On reboot the phone was connected and the sim was activated. No messages/email received.
    5) Applied recharge by dialing #111# and following the prompts (5 min)

Total time to port across and get set up: 1 days and a couple hours.
Make sure to call boost and get the sim in advance in order to make this process easier.

    • 2) Call Boost and let them know you will be porting from Telstra and they send out a blank sim (arrived in 1 day by registered mail)

Whats the reason for a blank SIM? Easier for the port in process because the $2 SIM already has a number assigned to it?

      • I just called Boost to do the same and was advised they don't have any stock of blank SIM's currently! She suggested there's another hack around to do it (change Telstra post-paid to pre-paid, they activate $2 SIM with new number, cancel number and move existing number across), but I'm not confident in the info she gave…

  • I went to Coles yesterday and they didn't have any of the $150 recharge vouchers just a bunch of $2 sims and some $20/$40 starter packs.
I even asked the guy at the main counter and he went to check out back but they didn't have any.
Can I just buy a $2 SIM and do a $150 recharge at the self checkout so it scans as $135?

    • It is a recharge, they should never run out of stock as it is just a e-voucher printed on a receipt. It is not a physical pack, i am afraid the guy you ask had no clue what he was doing or you had no clue on how to ask.

    • Yes, that's exactly how it works. Scan the $2 Sun, then hunt around for the right button in the menu ("prepaid recharges" I think it was?).
Once you select the $150 recharge it will automatically apply the discount

Will Officeworks price match if no stores have any stock according to their website. I can't find any stores that say they have stock in Adelaide. Anyone have any previous experience in this scenario.

    • my 2nd attempt with OW didnt work out - they refused to price match, saying they cant check stocks in Coles as it is an instore deal.
