  • Nice price. Have Google changed their subscriptions yet?

      • Do we know what the new prices will be in AUD? I've read a few articles and only seen USD.

        • I think that may be AUD based on the URL? has /au/ in it at least.
Seems to be 7AUD for basic vs 6USD for basic.

          • @tobinm: I think that's the current pricing isn't it? I'm wondering about the future price for the all in one sub.

            • @bxpressiv: Ah sorry, yep you're right. Mis-read their bit about new pricing coming in 2020. Thought it meant this is the new pricing.

              • +2

@tobinm: I found an article for the new pricing for next year for Oz, which is unlimited (?) devices:

Nest Aware $9 month $90 year
30 days of event video history

Nest Aware Plus $18 month $180 year
10 days of 24/7 video history
                60 days of event-video history

Existing subs will remain for those who choose to.

  • Still no sign of outdoor iq

  • What is the difference between the indoor and outdoor cameras?

    • +1

      Indoor isn't weather proof

    • The outdoor version also has a much longer cable run to a powerpoint - something like 7 or 8m. Its transformer is also weather proof and the USB cable that plugs into it is locked into a tight seal. It also comes with 9 cable clips with screws and anchors to secure the length of the cable to the wall. The magnet of the outdoor unit is also super strong.

      • Outdoor nest has weatherproof plug
Outdoor iq (not sold here) does not have weatherproof plug

Iq gives you facial detection and a lot more smart features

  • +1

How do people normally wire these up if you don't have a weatherproof or outdoor outlet? I can't imagine having a long USB cable going from the camera, underneath the front door to a power outlet would be ideal. Plus the camera might be weather proof but the cables surely aren't.

    • Mine goes into the roofspace

      • Then you have a power outlet in the roof space? I'm assuming you still had to get an electrician to install it.

        • Yeah. I have a few spare outlets in the roofspace so plugged these in there. The cable that comes with them is pretty long

    • These are rated to be plugged in outdoors I think

  • Thanks op got a few more.

  • Just beware that there is a cooling down period of 10 minutes before a new motion detect is notified , meaning that if you are walking around the area left for five minutes then return again , the second entry/motion will not be notified to your phone/email. I see this as a critical flaw for my use case and thinking of returning this .

    • I set mine to arm automatically when I leave the area, so it works fine for me.
