    Good price, good speaker.

    • +2

Yes also need a good receiver

      • +8

You also need a good Amp

        • I wish my amp could power this. It's ok, baby steps first. Upgrade AVR, 2xmonoblock and then these speakers.

        • +1

Why do you need a good amp? A good receiver will do the job just fine.

          • +2

            @skian:

Why do you need a good amp?

If you really want the best out of it for music.

You will also need a good SACD Player.

            • @superforever: Fair enough, my main usage is movies so I use a Yamaha receiver (I do not own these speakers for the record).

          • @skian: You need a good source, pre-amp, power amp, interconnects, power conditioner and good room placement.

            • -1

@jparse: Yes, make sure you set aside at least as much for the cables.

            • +3

@jparse: For music? I am running a Yamaha 3080 and it is fantastic for my puproses (movies/tv shows) I don't need anything else.

          • @skian: Wrong…found out the hard way. Flagship model Sony ES receiver (whilst some years old) wasn't capable of driving my 200W towers properly. Needed a separate amp…went with Emotiva Gen3. Better source, pre-amps etc well that's another story

            • +2

@whorishmouth: Wrong for you, but not for me. My receiver drives my system just fine.
I'm driving 15 year old Jamo's though, they were still made in Denmark back then.

              • @skian: "skian" If your running this receiver then it's a beast and better output than many amps lol.

@ozhunter68: That's the one! It is an absolute tank!

                  • +1

@skian: Don't be too excited by the seemingly impressive "rated output power". How often do you listen to 230W of mono 1kHz sine wave at 10% THD?

                    • +1

@alvian: Never, but as I said it does what I need it to do and that's all that matters to me. Merry Christmas!

                • @ozhunter68: I had an older model with similar power specs… they sell very cheap and are awesome

                  • @Poperdobs: Cheers. I used to spend a lot of money years ago on sound gear after visiting hifi shows in Melbourne and hitting those fancy upmarket stores around the city.

My budget nowadays is now very small and humble lol.

              • +1

@skian: Fair enough bud, as long as your happy thats the main thing. Everyone has different expectations and budgets. I wanted my ears to bleed… couldn't do that with my receiver. Merry Christmas!

        • +13

Also need to get rid of the spouse so you can turn up the sound

          • +7

@Leafie: If you have a spouse, you won't own this.

      • You also need a good DAC

  • +6

White Q350 pair at $699 is also great. Amazon Australia selling KEF directly is a big deal.

  • +3

Thanks OP, just bought 2. Couldn't afford to miss it at $2000 a pair.

    • +3

Had $2K burning in your pocket for such occasion?

    • Worth it. Amazing speakers… that KEF sound!!

      • "Just bought 2" ? Is that two pairs then ?

    • After the speakers were delivered, can you share with us photos of the packaging? I am very curious as to what kind of and how much material Amazon would use to pad and ship a pair of speakers weighing 41.2 kg and 0.17 m³ in volume.

  • What is the returns policy on this?

  • Surprised Amazon listing these speakers as a single item.
These are meant to be sold as pairs.

    • +2

Some opt to use floor standing speakers as center channels also.

      • +5

Don't forget to position it vertically smack bang in front of the screen. Got to admire your hard earn purchase while your watch rubbish movies.

        • while your watch rubbish movies.

          How dare you..🤨

          • @capslock janitor: Yep it’s a two step fix for that mistake there:

            while you’re watch rubbish movies.

            -

            while you’re watching rubbish movies.

alvian keep up with the edits.

            • @thebadmachine: It should have been "while you watch rubbish movies". Unfortunately only mods can edit locked comments and by the time I spotted the misspelt word it was already too late.

Usually I don't make these kinds of silly mistakes, but I swiped that comment on my phone left-handed while I ate lunch, and I didn't review it afterwards.

              Merry Christmas to all!

  • Wow very good price. Im was looking at the klipsch rf for my home theatre. Which is better? Kef q950 or klipsch rf-7 iii?

    • +4

The KEF Q950 is a warm speaker and probably not in the same catergory as the RF-7 which are very bright. Which amp do you have?

      • +1

I have the Denon x4500h. Im tempted to get these instead of the rf7 iii because its around half the price for a pair

        • +2

Kef would probably be the better choice with the 4500

          • +1

@atish digitalcinema: Great. Thanks for the advice

          • @atish digitalcinema: Would a Yamaha RX-V1085 be a good match with the Q950's?
I'd be looking to get a Q250c centre as the Q650c is too big for my setup.
Wondering if the Q750's would be a better choice/pairing?

      • what's this warm and 'bright'?

        • I would guess that 'warm' speakers would integrate the lows, mids and highs evenly while 'bright' speakers might emphasise the mids and highs a little more..? Someone might be able to chime in with an educated answer though

          • @DeToxin: Interesting. I would like to know more about warm and bright sounds as well. IVe always thought these words was only used to describe lighting

            • @Jeckbox: Well I been seeing these studio monitors for sale. When i click the link expecting monitors. I see bloody speakers. So I guess much the same.

  • +4

The guys downstairs will love these

  • i think you could get better deal through local shops (usually there is some margin for negotiation)
plus less drama with warranty i suppose

    • +1

      I agree AHEM

    • +2

Amazon is the best for warranty.. no questions…

  • +1

    Frequency 2200 hertz

Only good for 2.2 kHz pure sine wave and rubbish for everything else?

  • -8

The deal is not the cheapest available

Cheaper here - KEF Q950 Black or White Floorstanding Speakers $1,950 a Pair Delivered @ Digital Cinema

Better warranty and backed by an actual store, not a box mover.

    • +10

After SB cashback Amazon ends up being $1928.07, cheaper than that store. Plus the guy who works in that store is a psycho and has gone off people in OzBargain in the past and has awful (sometimes comical) negative reviews on Google Reviews.

Have a read through the way he interacted with a bunch of people in this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/479360

I'd go with Amazon, at least you don't have to deal with someone like that if you have to lodge warranty claims.

      • +2

Yeah wow. I hope that guy is the owner because if not….

      • +2

….. WOW! Is this guy for real?

      • +1

leave a google review, i did.

      • +1

Jesus! His attitude killed that deal. Real mature.

    • +3

It could not be better. Amazon warranty is like "whatever happened - just send it back and we will give you a refund".

  • +1

Will be $1898 on Boxing Day with 12% cashback/$50 if it applies to more than 1 transaction..

  • +2

I though ozb gets their speakers from a white van in shopping centre parking lot?

  • Amazing speakers, great price.

  • +1

I need to upgrade my ears first for this speaker.

    • +1

I need to upgrade my pocket first
