MSI Radeon RX5700XT 8GB EVOKE OC PCIe Video Card $565.25 + Delivery (Free w/eBay Plus) @ Compuer Alliance eBay

80
PLATEAU

This is currently the cheapest non-reference RX 5700XT you can get, and with recent revisions to the thermal pads used in it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE_i9wn7hgk) it seems like a pretty good deal.

As the OP said, there is a method to make this card better. However, I don't think you should waste your time doing it, just pay a little more for a better card.

    • You could potentially change the thermal pads yourself, but I was pointing to the fact that MSI themselves have changed the thermal pads for better thermal performance. When looking at the Gamers Nexus video this change they made reduces both VRM and Memory temperatures by 7 degrees at 40dBa (when fans aren't running 100% for noise).

    • Worth noting it should have a revised cooler. So it shouldn't be a trainwreck if you really wanted to save some cash, just not unreasonable.

That said, we live in Aus. Just spend the extra few bucks. Even the thicc 2 with a non revised cooler is more ideal.

This is the one 5700XT people should avoid, as you're never going to know whether you'll get a revised card. The MSI Gaming X model is excellent.

Have one running my 3900X rig. Can't complain about anything because I opted from reference 5700 XT…

Iirc you can get it shipped to MSI for a cooler replacement if it is an old model.

Would still advise going for a better model though. Discourages MSI from cheaping out on it at the least.

Is there a cheaper reference one?

  • as others have said MSI fixed the issue with the Evoke, however only on the revised evoke model, how to know this is that?? no idea. (those who have EVOKE shine a torch in between backplate and PCB you should see gddr6 thermal pads on the backplate side of the card, if so it's revised model)

In any case the 'original version' evoke can have lower gddr6 thermals with easy thermal pad fix or even a rotation of the pre-applied thermal pads….. however even if its the original model it's still going to run fine without doing the fix, just runs way too loud. The Junction isn't too bad but the fan has to work overtime to cool the gddr6 and is of course the flaw with the original version of the evoke.

Those who run this without the fix may run the Original EVOKE BIOS v1 found on techpowerup's website for improved out of box cooling. (Aggressive fan profile)

In any case this card even the original version is still BETTER then the TUF 5700XT, at least MSI made steps to fix their issue. the EVOKE is not the worst 5700XT by a long shot.
