            • @BlitzR: And do you think Kogan will send put a tech from Hong Kong… seriously ?

          • +2

@worker: I can call local Actron support and get things fixed easy and quick what are you talking about?

            • +3

@deelaroo: Dw mate. This guy just doesn't have a clue…

          • +3

@worker: I called Daikin for my faulty 3 year old unit, local tech came in 4 days to replace PCB board and a service, no charge.

Good luck with Kogan who buys this unit.

      • +4

How do you know there are no parts ? Or manufacturer support ?

Ring Kogan and check, they won't carry parts and they will send out a local AC company if there is a problem during the 12 months and they will replace the unit or refund if it can't be fixed with standard parts.

There is no manufacturer to call in Australia.

What are the dubious origins ?

Where are they made, what market are they made for and from whom did Kogan buy them.

What doesn’t end up in land fill ?

Within five years at least other brand name AC units won't be there that's for sure. This unit will be landfill at it's first failure.

What’s the fake previous price? Just because price hiPster says so?

Find the real price, it sure wasn't what Kogan claims.

1 year warranty sure that sucks, I’m sure it would be covered by a statutory warranty if it fails.

Why would it be covered by a money warranty as it's being sold cheaply and how will you enforce this without paying to take Kogan to court?

    • +1

Not commenting on the validity of this being a deal or not but i highly doubt ACCC would support 12 months being the limit of the warranty. The average person would expect at least 3 years with a significant item like a split system.

      • +3

It comes back to the price of the unit, this is a cheap unit so you get what you pay for. Name brand units like Panasonic etc already have 5 years warranty IIRC.

The ACCC don't do anything, they take reports and that's it. If you feel it should be under warranty for more than a year you will need to hire a lawyer and take Kogan to court or represent yourself at a small claims court.

    • +4

I'm negging the deal for all these reasons.

Ditto that. This split system was never intended for sale in the Australian market and once again, Kogan are just being some dodgy b@stards.

    • +1 for reasons for negging the deal.

  • +1

I did a search on the HYRAC73R32TA model number but can't seem to find any reviews. What would happen when there are issues, does Kogan send a tech out to your house to diagnose it or do we have to ship it back to Kogan :p

By the way, the product is covered for 2 year warranty ATLEAST under the standard Kogan ACL warranty

    • +4

By the way, the product is covered for 2 year warranty ATLEAST under the standard Kogan ACL warranty

No it's not. There is no "standard Kogan ACL warranty" and you just made this up. To enforce warranty under the ACL you have to take the retailer to court.

      • I don't think you would have to. I have handled ACCC complaints before from the sellers end and they do all the leg work.

Customer had an issue with microsoft regarding out of warranty xbox. They raised the issue with the ACCC who did the work contacting me and ensuring the problem was worked out without needing legal action. It should be enforced by the ACCC, not the end user taking them to court.

Still, dodgy they would even try to say the warranty is only 12 months.

        • +7

The ACCC do NOT take action on behalf of individuals. They never have and never will.

If your want to enforce something you have to take legal action yourself. This is why the ACL is rubbish.

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/complaints-problems/make-a…

          • @Maverick-au: Yeah i should have worded that better. They will follow the case up with the retailer and insist they remedy and inform the customer how to proceed. Repeated violations can get them fined (but that doesnt help your individual case). Most large businesses will sort out an issue well before it comes to that. When i was at harvey norman head office would do pretty much anything to avoid an issue being referred to the ACCC.

          • +1

@Maverick-au: Quote: If your want to enforce something you have to take legal action yourself. This is why the ACL is rubbish.

Its much better than no guideline at all. And anything more specific is open to gaming by retailers. The ACL is a good thing not rubbish.

I don’t understand all the hate for Kogan or Hyundai, if people don’t trust them, that’s fine don’t buy it. But to piss and moan about a pretty good deal is rather pathetic imo.

    • +10

It's not a good deal and people need to understand that they effectively have no warranty and will be able to get no parts for this.

@Maverick-au: First this guy (@worker) says he has been in the appliance industry for years, now he says he is a plumber. The only white goods, I guess he plays around with are toilets, no wonder he talks so much $hit 🤔

    • +7

if people don’t trust them, that’s fine don’t buy it. But to piss and moan about a pretty good deal is rather pathetic imo.

This is what has always let down and divided OzBargain as a community.

The insistence from people that cheap must always mean: bargain/good deal. Not always so.

Especially not when the $900 dollar product you're buying has little to no protections against manufacturer defects or failures and the warranty may not be honoured; then it's not a bargain at any price.

If this was a $9 dollar product discounted from $100, then yes, I'd say it wouldn't matter given the investment and expected lifespan of the item, but sheesh, there are other cheap air conditioner deals out there, that aren't grey imports which will leave you up sh*t's creek with no recourse for customer support in this country.

      • +9

And potential buyers get the misconception that 71 upvotes means awesome deal, and impulse buy this POS system, just because OP feels the need to defend their post, despite supposedly having no affiliation.

        • +6

Yep, it's a time-honoured, ass-backwards tradition we have here on OzBargain. Vote first, buy first; think later, regret later.

I can't remember how many times I've tried to convince people that maybe that too-good-to-be-true deal they're frothing at the mouth over is just a little too convenient and perhaps if they spent just a few dollars more on something far more reputable, they wouldn't have to wonder about whether they were gambling their money away.

You say that and it's like Galileo being rounded-up by pitch fork-wielding, knuckle-dragging retards; some people just refuse to have anything come between them and basking in the aura of a "good deal". Consumerism is a helluva drug.

          • +2

@Gnostikos: Vote first, read comments later, 😜

          • @Gnostikos: In approx 90mins they'll get their 5 neg votes for the day lol coz they're unable to counter an argument.

All the comments deleted on this post, with reasons of inappropriate and personal attack, were from the people who are defending this deal.

            Pretty funny 😂

A tip for those in the thread looking to get an air con.

This year I've gotten away with running my room air con at higher temps than previous years, by using a Vornado fan pointed at me at the same time, which creates a cool breeze. :)

    • Is it not too loud when watching tv or trying to sleep? I'm contemplating getting it. Your comment has peaked my interest further

      • +2

As long as you buy one of the bigger ones (the cheaper models are smaller, so are more noisy to push the equivalent air).

        I bought a '660 model' for reference.

The wall air con is louder than the vornado by quite a bit, especially when it cycles.

But, I've gotten away with rarely having to run the air con (this year so far) and fan when going to bed if it's too hot by the time I want to go to sleep (our house holds heat in, so can sit at 30 degs almost the whole night). Last year, without the vornado, I had the air con overnight on about half of all nights of summer. I've run the air con once so far this year…

Also, I run the Vornado on level 2/5 when I sleep on the hot nights, and I get to sleep with it humming away no problem, and not feeling too hot.

        • +3

Wow your post is very informative and useful thanks so much. I've actually screenshotted it and off I go to compare prices on the 660 model.

Thanks so much it is greatly appreciated!

@cute as duck: EDIT: (I made a mistake in an edit). This one should be right :)

@worker: Q) If you go out on a cold day, does it feel colder if there is a breeze blowing as well?

            • @metalslaw: Yes it does, however I don’t need a vornado I can just buy a $20 fan from Kmart to do the same thing.

              • +1

@worker: Last summer, I had a $50 'moretti' fan from bunnings that I used (with the air con).

Absolutely no comparison to the Vornado I'm using in combo with the air con (this year)

However, I do know that Dad's box fan is also better than the $50 moretti I used.

                So, you may be right.

                Shrug :)

                • +1

@metalslaw: I ended up getting the 660 at your suggestion from David Jones with Shopback cashback for $159 today. Not as cheap as the Xmas eve deal but best I could get after trying to bargain with HN and TGS this morning

                  • @cute as duck: That's a pretty good price.

I was wondering what I payed, so I checked and it was 158.40 from the good guys, with the original price being 198, and then I had a ebay 20% discount that took it down to 158.

Anyway, I'm sure you will love the 660. I've been running it on a 1 or 2 speed (out of it's 4 speeds) most days this summer, and it's just perfect by itself (without air con) in my room til it's 31 degrees. :)

    • +2

Thats next level thrift, a true ozbargainer at heart.

    • +1

You can do that with all fans. Key is the volume of air circulated. Vorndaos are over rated (and overpriced).

    • ? The temp & fan speed are independent settings.
So keep the temp higher, like you say. And keep the fan high & point the fins towards you.

  • It's pronounced Hee-ahn-day

  • I personally would get one of these but it might be a deal for someone - it's a good price and could last for a long time.

I've only ever installed Fujitsu in my home and all have performed flawlessly. I recently replaced a 12 year old split system in our bedroom that was starting to fail with a new Fujitsu 9.4kW unit - it's icy cold now when I need it to be!

Fujitsu have a 5 year warranty in Australia.

    • 9.4kW for a bedroom?!!
      Is it 20mtr x 20mtr

      • Is it 20mtr x 20mtr

You forgot to factor in the heat load from all the bodies in the room so it may be a lot smaller with a very big bed.

      • +1

It's pretty big but not that big!

I bought a bigger unit as the price was excellent and it can be run at a very low setting in order to cool the room. It is a bit overkill but I work in electrical engineering design and we often overrate systems in order to place less stress on them - especially in our harsh climate. At the lowest setting, with its economy mode, power consumption is very low.

      • Must be a King bedroom to use such a monster size unit ;)

  • +5

Personally won't get it - no local authorised dealer/installer means it is a nightmare if anything (in the unlikely event) goes wrong. Curious whether they make these in Thailand, or China.

  • Agree with some of the previous posters, if you are willing to take the gamble go for it.
My best mates dad worked in the air conditioning industry for the last 20 years (recently retired) and the two brands he recommended for split systems in terms of best quality / fewest issues were Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Panasonic.
For ducted A/C, look for Daikin or Actron.
    Hope this helps someone.

This is why you don't buy Kogan

    From the actual webpage
"~Use the discount code “COOLBOX” to reduce the current website prices of eligible products by 25% at checkout. Some current website prices may change while this offer is available, and/or may have changed recently."

AKA We put the price up so we can discount it for the sale. Expect the price to drop right after the 25% discount offer ends.

    BTUs=beneficial to us
*Disclaimer-nothing stated herein should in any way resemble the truth.
Warranty claims must be exercised before the product is received otherwise they are void. Details on how to claim will arrive with your delivery.

  • These comments are being getting heated, some of you need A/C asap

Imo people who buy this are the same buying Edison on eBay

    No care factor for support/service

  • I wonder when the Kogan electric car will come here.

  • +2

This may be cheap but I would never buy it. Kogan has the absolute worst customer service. My experience is that they take weeks to even initially respond to any customer queries. I would rather pay more for a brand with more local support like Mitsubishi. Buying an air conditioner is a long term investment so I want peace of mind that I will receive quality long term support. Saying that if you can’t afford another brand and like to gamble, give this a shot!

    • Kogan has the absolute worst customer service. My experience is that they take weeks to even initially respond to any customer queries.

Not in my recent experience. I put in a warranty claim via email on Dec 20 and in 1hr15min got a response they are replacing my faulty airfryer without the need for me to return it and confirming the delivery address.

In my case proof how easy warranty claim was not the date and time stamps https://ibb.co/2y0XNh7

You guys who gave negative votes are pathetic, you must of had some real bad luck in the past to have so much hate embroiled in your souls.

It’s an aircon for crying out loud, it’s just an appliance. It’s not the holy grail that’s going to support human life on Mars, forever.

    Here’s what’s going to happen………..

In around a week my aircon will be delivered, then I’ll ring my mate who will install if for cash, the temp will hit 30c, I’ll reach over to the remote and switch it on and it will start too cool my house.
hell I may even switch it on to heat cause I can!

Then I will crack an ice cold beer enjoy my new climate in my icebox house and think too myself, WOW what a bargain 7.3kw of cooling for $1200 installed, how great is this!

IF the thing stops working, oh the shock and the horror, I’ll try not to call mum and dad and ask for help or quickly start googling “Hyundai most reliable, honest, highly charging, reputable, aircon fixers, with LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram profiles only”

No! I’ll fire an email off to Kogan and let them deal with it. I’ll try not too cry, moan and then post 1,000,000 comments on how I got ripped off on the internet.

No! I’ll remain calm and get it fixed and then once it’s fixed, I’ll crack that beer and enjoy it once again! Just like every other appliance I have ever bought in my whole entire life!

Risk to buy it, Sure! I agree! Worth it if it works! 100%
If it doesn’t work! Well Shit! A mistake is made! Move on!

You guys have made so many assumptions with 0 facts to back it up! If I were a lawyer I would have a field day with all the defamatory comments made on the brands.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen people spend way more than this on phones and tvs which were rubbish and complain less lmao

    • +2

I think the post above sums it up correctly. It’s basically a cost benefit ratio.

The unit is cheaper because it’s backed by a very small distributor which in reality will have limited service agents and spare parts into the future. If you’re happy to take a gamble to save a few hundred up front, then by that all means go ahead.

My only worry with splits is that you do have to drill a hole through the wall and hang the unit. If you have a brand-new house like myself, I preferred to install more reputable brands on the assumption that I won’t have to rip them down (and patch, fill and paint if the new unit doesn’t line up) within 5 to 8 years to replace them.

      • +3

@apu, but if you have a mate like @worker does, you could pay him in cash and he will drill the hole, then repatch it, while you eat a snickers so you wont get all worked up about it and calling ppl pathetic for giving negative comments which are really constructive criticism about an item that isn't pocket change and could cost over $1500, which may turn out to be total junk.

        • -4

Nah, sorry I don’t think the comments have been constructive at all, scare mongering, yes!
Maybe a touch of jealousy cause you paid over $2k for your aircon ? Who knows!

      • +1

i had a dakin 6.0kw which i replaced with a 7.2kw pana. used the same hole drilled 15 to 20 years ago. only thing changed was the copper pipining. if u look at the back of the indoor unit u can see the pipes can go either side of the unit so it dont really matter where the hole in the wall is.

    • @worker

noob q… if you have a 6kw solar panels, would this aircon use all that free solar energy since it 7.3kw?

      • Both are entirely different ratings. Not actual throughput.

7.3kW is the rated cooling output.

    • +2

Half of your attitude is why we get ripped off in the first place, you just let it happen.

Another way of looking at the 'move on' concept is Kogan says, "what are you going to do about it?", and youre all embarrassed and pretend to be cool and walk off not caring, possibly flicking your hair out of your eyes every 5 seconds.

We get better product by holding retailers to account for their products.

      • Nobody said not to hold retailers to account at all.
It’s an unproven product, cheap price at a shitty retailer. So must be bad huh ? Can’t give it a go can we ?
No, we must prevail and buy Mitsubishi or Fujitsu! Only from the good guys at 20% off from eBay @ 2k+ installed.

I’ve been in the appliance industry long enough to know what’s what and most of the people in this thread are just hilarious.
Worst case scenario is the board fails and you have to get another one. The compressor, gas, fans and the rest of the stuff will “almost” be universal and not break.
( watch the keyboard warriors with google attack this comment with their constructive negs, lol)

A neg for me with No Australian service/support
I recently had problems with a Panasonic split system and the after service has been fantastic.
These items tend to fail when you need them the most and no parts available locally.
My advice, Get a quality brand installed by an authorised local installer

    • Umm hello? There is Australian support, it’s called the ACCC Statutory warranty.
My advice, dont buy it, nobody is forcing you.

You have no clue about the accc. As stated in a previous comment, they do not act on individual complains. They mostly do class actions. You say that you have been in the appliance industry for a long time so you should know what the accc act on or are u fill of BS?

        • No not full ( or fill in your case )of bs friend. Once again keyboard hero at work. Who said the ACCC will act or stand up for you in individual cases ?

        • Here have a read.
          https://www.accc.gov.au/business/treating-customers-fairly/o…

I believe this is what protects Australian consumers from the nasties of Hyundai and Kogan.
Australian support if it goes to shit? Hell yeah!

@worker: You continually go on about keyboard warriors, but have you actually looked at your comments, they are so long winded and it's just repetitive BS.

I'm sorry that so many ppl have your post a - . But seriously go to woolies and buy a snickers or if Kogan sell them, they them to deliver it to you 😁

            • @BlitzR: Cheers will do :) I’ll get one delivered from amazon. Screw woolies and their inferior Chinese fake snickers with no warranty.

          • @worker: That is the law but getting them to comply with it is the issue at hand. (See how many current cases there are against Kogan).

Okay so in 4 years it breaks down, you call up your local air con company to have a look because there is no australian based dealer or service agent. They find that you need a specific hyundai part that no major spare parts distributor stocks. So your up for a new unit cause no spares exist in australia.

Whereas if you buy a brand like Daikin, Fujistu etc they have an aftersales service team and will stock spare parts for 15+ years from my experience.

        • If it lasts 4 years I’ll be happy, 1200/4 is only $300 per year for cooling. Not bad. Almost less than a Telstra prepaid plan.
