Coles - Telstra Pre-Paid Mobiles - Samsung Galaxy A20 $179 from RRP $229 (10GB Bonus on Activation - 17 Feb)

520

The popular Galaxy A20 is on special again at Coles ($50 off) with 10GB data bonus if activated prior to 17 Feb - there is normally a $10 sim included in this pack.

pretty sure this would be locked to Telstra, from previous posts, this should be ok on Boost and Belong but not Aldi.

  • Is this ozbargain's favourite smartphone?

  • Will this work if I have a boost sim or need to unlock?
Edit: Just saw that it does. Thanks

You can get a Vodafone locked one from Big W online for $170 ($199 + $1 item - $30) at the moment using the code YOUSAVE30. Gift cards of course to get it a little cheaper

    • Did you actually get it to work? I couldn't. Would only work with YOUSAVE20 which is the same price as this deal.

I added a $1.50 hamburger sock to bring it to over $200 and the $30 off works as described above. (Then used a 5% off gift card to bring it down to $161.97)

        • For a version has extra bands also.

    • Thanks!

      • Is it expensive to unlock the Vodafone one or can you use belong with the Telstra version?

        • +2

It's 3 pounds which works out to be just under AU $6.

          • +1

@Arthur Dunger: I did this yesterday and it worked fine. just follow the instructions which have been posted on previous deals

  • Can we use egiftcards to buy these?

    • +1

Yes, it's just a regular product. Same with recharge vouchers.

  • Which is version is better telstra or Vodafone in terms of junk loaded on the phone already?

    • +2

Voda has 3 'apps' (some are just shortcuts I think), which can all be uninstalled easily.

Don't forget 5% off with gift cards if you can get them.

    • Sorry how does this work?

Is it just a few of us who're having GPS issues with Galaxy A20, given how popular it is?

    • +1

I had that issue before I dropped and broke it.

Being an intermittent issue and GPS working adequately at other times I would expect most owners haven't noticed the problem, but it potentially exists.

    • +1

Thia is the reason I haven't grabbed one yet. I can't get a straight answer whether the GPS a still an issue or not (using offline maps, for example when OS).

Anyone used an A20 with offline maps in NYC, that place gives the GPS a good test.

      • +1

Yes the gps issue is still there and no fixes from Samsung.

        • +1

Anyone looked at the physical GPS aerial itself inside the phone? Length/ location etc?

(I guess you would potentially void the warranty).

      • I used the A20 on Kogan for trip from Melbourne to Bairnsdale on the weekend no issues. Using android auto.

        • In my experience, once you've got a GPS fix, it stays until you turn the phone off or do the network reset & reboot.

        • +1

I find it to be hit and miss…
Sometimes the gps locks in straight away, other times it takes 5-10mins

  • I bought this phone for my father in law online and will pickup tomorrow morning. Anyone got any experiences with this mobile?

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/catalogue#view=catalogue&…

    • If you are referring to the Essential, then it is poor by comparison, but then it is less than half the price.
I have the earlier Essential Plus from the Telstra 4G giveaway and I refuse to use it.

      • Yes I have read reviews about both Essential Plus and Essential Pro. Pro has much better specs than Plus. And besides Pro cost currently only $79.00 Can't complain much I believe (my point of view).

        • It’s pretty shit I sold mine used on eBay for like $20 software unlocked

  • This was in last week's Coles catalogue too, and I price matched unlocked phone, at Officeworks (with extra 5% off!). Happy with mine.

  • those with suncorp rewards account - can get coles egiftcard for 4% discount.

does anyone know how to unlock the phone?

  • A30 was at this price around xmas on amazon. I dont need a phone but I'm still kicking myself for not buying it.

  • Dont know if someone else posted this. But it is not ok on boost and belong

    • I heard Aldi didn't work, have you tried it on boost?

    • Was hoping it would work with Boost.

      • Can someone confirm this please? I recently ported to Boost with a Redmi 4 to find out it doesn't have the band support. Planning to get this.

        TIA

Officeworks has unlocked version available for $179.

    • deal expired with 30 min !

      • +1

Even after it expired I went to Officeworks and they had the price $179 on the shelf. Not in stock but will get it in tomorrow from the warehouse.

  • Can Officeworks pricebeat Coles offer of $179 even though its a locked version? Has anyone tried that before?

  • +4

I can confirm this works with BOOST without unlocking. Thanks

  • Can anyone confirm if I can claim TRS? I have brought 3 and wife is travelling overseas. All of these are brought using coles eGift cards and I have the receipt.

    Thanks
