  • Price matched 2 at OW in store. Thank you :)

  • I'm at the end of a 2 x Telstra postpaid contracts and looking to save some $$. I like having the coverage of Telstra's network as I'm in a QLD regional area so I prefer to stay with them. There have been allusions to problems with porting Telstra postpaid numbers to Boost, but when reading their web site it seems you need to order a special blank SIM - perhaps all these horror stories are a result of not doing this? It seems that if I go with Boost I'm going to save a heap each month, but I don't want to end up regretting it if there's a lot of hassle. Has anyone had actual success with porting from Telstra postpaid?

    • Yes, you will need to get 2 x blank sims from Boost which they will sent it out to you via Post.
Not just a normal sim you buy from the shops.
I have ported my prepaid telstra plan to Boost last year and it was done on the phone without any hiccups. But check your credit card statement as Telstra prepaid kept charging me after the porting process for a few months even though I have confirmed with their call centre that I will not be charged from Telstra.

      • Thanks for the reply, but it turns out I'm even more special. My numbers are with Telstra Business and they can't access the billing system internally, so I'd need to migrate over to Telstra Consumer first and then port over to Boost using their special blank SIMs. Seemed like too much hard work so I put the screws on the rep at my local Telstra Business Centre and got a better deal than they normally offer. Still not as good as Boost but at least my monthly spend is way down and I continue to have full Telstra network access.

  • How do I go onto this from an 80gb boost prepaid plan like is there a way to activate it without having to port out and then back in again.

80gb is cutting it top close data wise so I will need an 150gb plan or this 240gb plan by mid April 2020 or something else with more than 120gb prepaid 365 days.

Bonus points if I can prepay multiple years or more than 12 months right off the bat.

    • There are no exceptions. You need to port out and port back in. End of discussion.

Get a 5$ Sim from Aldi, wait for successful port out, port in, then Port back into Boost.

No, you can't prepay for multiple years. These promos are for NEW customers only. Caveat is that if you port out and port back in, you count as a new customer.

These are known facts. It's a hassle, but the way it is. Don't like the inconvenience? Then pay the full price. Frankly, the inconvenience is worth the price savings imo.

      • wait so I currently have an active boost prepaid plan ending in mid April 2020 so what I should do to use this offer is buy a $5 sim from Aldi then use that sim to port out to what I assume is a payg or blank aldi plan.. then wait x amount of days then port back into this $240 boost prepaid mobile plan with same number and I should be golden?

Is this all the correct steps and methods or am I missing something.

Also how many hours or days do you recommend me to be on the Aldi sim or can I port straight back into Boost say within the hour of being an Aldi mobile user for a few minutes etc.

        • Don't buy an Aldi sim, it's on the Telstra network as well. Get a cheap Kogan or Catch Connect sim for a month. Kogan is Vodafone and Catch is Optus. Catch usually need to be activated within 30 days of purchase.

This Kogan deal expires 30/06/2020 Or keep an eye on this Catch deal It might still be active when you need it.

          • @Arthur Dunger: Aldi is Telstra Wholesale, so shouldn't be an issue (my guess is the Telstra porting problem is not the network so much as the shared billing system)
            .

            • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Why risk it anyway when the Kogan and Catch sims are better deals. It's an extra month of unlimited calls/sms 40gb for less than $5. Catch is $1.40 atm after cashback.

              • +1

@Arthur Dunger: Agree, but for speed's sake, Aldi may work better for some (actually, wondering if people can't port over to Belong with a free SIM and $20 referral credit?).

        • Once you have ported over to Aldi, check on your phone to ensure Aldi is displayed on your phone and test it by making calls on the Aldi sim.
If you are able to call out on Aldi sim then you are ready to start porting the number back to Boost.

  • If I buy this today, how many days do I have to activate the sim? Im still in a contract that ends in March.

    • I bought the SIM and recharge voucher from Coles in November last year, and just activate the sim recently. The SIM is expired in 12 months, but the voucher expire around May 2021, so in your case, should not be a problem.

  • What is the best sim to do a temporary port-out from Tesltra postpaid?
It seems $2 Optus sim requires further $10 recharge to activate. Any cheaper / easier options?

    • +1

Catch is cheaper, especially if you use Cashrewards and stay with them the firsr month.

    • You can ring Boost and request a special blank sim to be posted out to you and it will cost you nothing but time.
The special sim arrives within a week and I am in WA. It should be quicker if you are in the east coast.
From memory it came via Startrack courier.

Good deaL. Shame I just purchased boost 80gb for $135 last week, I wouldn't mind more data.

    • Same

  • Good deal.

Just a note that it's VoLTE (and consequently, VoWifi) availability is iffy and may not work with all VoLTE enabled phone.

Ported from Vodafone (with full VoLTE and VoWifi) only to find not working on Boost (despite multiple attempts to enable it from Boost's end).

    • what is the advantages of using VoLTE when your are getting free calls to any number in Australia?

      • +1

Simply speaking, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) uses your internet connection to provide higher quality and more reliable calls.

It has nothing to do with free calls.

  • thanks OP bought one from officework

  • How do I manage my boost account? I got my number ported over in 10 mins but when i downloaded the app, it says i still need to activate my sim despite it already being activated. Is there any other way?

  • Just curious. Heard prepaid plans are easily hijacked/hacked. Is it true?

I got a friend who was with Vodafone prepaid and his account and number was stolen/hijacked. He lost his email too.

  • I'm new to prepaid sims and Boost. If I buy a Boost prepaid sim at Coles off the rack (assuming they have a $300 sim pack) will it have all the features shown on the Boost website? Same question for any other value Boost prepaid sims, eg $40 one (will it have international calling as specified on the Boost website). The reason I ask this is because there is no mention of international calls on the packaging. Thanks for any feedback.

    • What Coles is selling is exactly the same as what Boost outlined on their website.
All offerings will be the same.

  • If i price match at Officeworks, do i get a sim card loaded with $300 or do i get a recharge voucher. Im already on boost and my plan expires in 4 months. I know it has an expiry till April 2021 so would it be possible for me to buy from Officeworks and use on my existing boost number?

    • +2

You've got long enough to plan your attack.

If that is what you're set on doing, I'd pick up a 28/30 day prepaid aim with a different carrier. Churn to that at the end of your current plan, then have this Boost pack ready for when that expires.

You will have to port out and back to stay with Boost as this is for new customers only.

Honestly, with that long to go, I'd wait and see what else pops up in that time as these deals are almost fortnightly.

  • +1

What's the best and cheapest way for existing customer to use this? Which company and plan to port out to and how many days and then back to Boost?

    • +3

Depends how you wanna do it. If you want to save a bit of cash, Catch will give you 3 months for $15 (less with Cashrewards), and you'll be able to port in when the 90 days is up.

If you want to be on full Telstra network ASAP, Aldi 5 buck SIM is one of the easiest, which could be a same day port out then back in.

      • Thanks :) Need international calling so Aldi and quick same day switch it is

  • +2

Wouldn't the Boost $150 ($130 on sale) for 12 months be better value?
What advantage does this have other than the extra data?

    • Extra data and extra international call minutes (1200 vs 3600)

  • I bought a $15 boost Sim the other day to test the network coverage for my area. Turns out it is way better than my other Sim (Optus)

I didn't port my number over I just made a new one. Am I still classified as a new customer then? Can I safely buy this and port my main number over even though I've technically already signed up to boost with my name, address etc?

    • +1

You are a new customer if you are porting your existing number (non-Boost) or you accepts a new number allocated by Boost.

  • Anyone know if you get free access to AFL LIVE app like you do with Telstra ?

  • Any deal again for the $150 prepaid sim?

  • What does new customer really means? If we a current boost user and port to other (like optus) and back again are we be a new customer again? And still can get the 2 months bonus data if any?

  • Pardon my ignorance, I am currently on Telstra prepaid.

Will it work porting to Boost directly or I need to port out to a different provider first ?

    • I have the same question. Can someone help plz?

    • +1

      2 options.
You can request a special blank sim to be sent out from Boost via post, ETA within a week (cost nothing but time).
Or you can port out to another provider and then port back to Boost (cost $2 to $5 depending on which network).

      • Hi he88388, Doesn't this come with a SIM already ?

    • process has changed recently, it used to be that you need a special blank sim as per their website.
I had recently ported from Telstra postpaid, did it over the phone with Boost, they did it all postpaid->prepaid->boost. using the sim in the pack.

      • ok, thanks garbagetnt so Telstra prepaid to Boost should be fine then.

  • I'm wanting to port to boost from Kogan. My Kogan plan expires on the 12th of Feb but i am currently overseas and won't return until the 1st of March.

If i get my brother in aus to buy this for me and activate does anyone know if there will there be a problem porting?

    • +1

If i get my brother in aus to buy this for me and activate does anyone know if there will there be a problem porting?

Porting number (yours) needs to be able to receive a text to confirm intent of porting, this is to stop people from stealing numbers with stolen identities.
Given the fact in our modern age that 2FAs (Two factor authentication) is usually done by text, this was a huge risk without the confirmation text prior to porting process.

Do you have your Kogan sim card with you? It has roaming capabilities, but by default (must be a recent change within the last year or so), it has receiving capabilities (without paying for roaming add-ons)

There should be no issues porting if you can receive the "confirmation of intent" SMS

      • +1

Thanks for your reply. I remember hearing something about the 2FA but i couldnt find much information on it. I have my Kogan sim with me so i will give it a try :)

    • +1

There is no need to port in a hurry if you are not in Australia.
Get someone to buy it here in Australia and wait for you to come back to activate it.
The sim card will not expiry in the month of March 2020. Some has feedback that the expiry is in 2021.

  • Bought it OW price match 228

  • How does one get a price match at Officeworks? I walked into 2 different stores, one told me I need to call their 13 number. I dialed their 13 number and waited for more than 10 mins and hung up. I walked into a 2nd store, the cashier told me they don't do price match on prepaid sim. Have I gone to the wrong stores.

    • I just show them the Boost website with discount price, all good.
I am with boost now no issue. Port my number from telechoice within 15min. So far so happy.

  • +1

Damn just tried and looks like it expired

    • +1

Bugger. Was gonna grab 2 on the weekend. :(

      • I thought it has an expiry of 20th Feb on the webpage. Was going to sort it out tonight. :-(

        • +1

The expiry date on the Boost website was 10.02.2020. I thought we have 3 more days. I called them earlier on and they say they ran out of sim card?!? which is puzzling.

          • @spotter18: I went to office works for a price match and promotion is not on Boost's website anymore

          • @spotter18: Te chat agent denied that to me and said it expired on the 3rd despite me seeing it and adding it to my cart on the 6th. Lying to my face (chat face :-) )……dodgy people.

  • I'm Devo.

  • +1

I just called and the call taker said, they’re not sure what’s going on and think it could be a mistake and the promotion might be re activated. His team had emailed regarding this and were waiting on a reply. He said to keep checking the website, so hopefully gets reinstated.

  • Was gunna buy this weekend also, my Kogan runs out next month. Hopefully they reinstate.

  • +1

    Hopefully comes back on 😬

  • +2

    confirmed in Chat. promotion ended.

  • Hi all, this said it expires on 10th and I just went to buy it but it is expired. I saw it on the 6th here and thought I'd buy it the day before expiry as I don't want to activate it until another plan expires and wanted to overlap as little as possible.
Boost themselves say the $240 deal expired on the 3rd but I definitely saw it here and on the boost website on the 6th.
Did this get withdrawn early? Is it a regular deal?
    Thanks
    Dan

    • +2

Just read the above comments about it expiring. I got 'gaslit' by the chat agent who said it expired on the 3rd. She wouldn't accept that I had seen it and added it to my cart on the 6th. Despite the good price, i'm not sure that I want to give my money to a company that is willing to lie to my face and deny the reality I know happened. Pretty poor. Just be honest ffs.

      • +1

They definitely had it on their website for 10th Feb… so crap

      • That just sounds like Telstra's terrible customer support (which Boost uses)

  • i am not sure if anyone experiences this. i order-red the sim on 28 Jan and they've still not shipped it and i asked the chat agent, they said the order was not found. look like they ran out of sim

  • +2

The deal was supposed to expire on the 10th of February i remember seeing it on the boost website, saves me a trip to Officeworks.

  • Deal is still up, adds to cart with discounts fine, OW price-matched it as well.
