[BF] Complimentary Cruises on 'Spectrum of The Seas' for First Responders That Helped Fight Bushfires @ Royal Caribbean

3870

Will leave this with the mods to decide if it's a deal or a forum post (confirmed ok). Enjoy :)

Royal Caribbean is to move one of its newest and biggest ships to Australia and offer free cruises to those who helped fight the bushfires, the line has announced on a blog. “In light of the ongoing Coronavirus issues in China, Royal Caribbean has announced it will move Spectrum of the Seas to Australia as a gesture to thank the humanitarian efforts put forth to combat the wildfires”, says the Royal Caribbean fans’ blog, an unofficial site run out of the US. “Spectrum of the Seas will travel to Australia and be deployed on complimentary cruises sailing from Sydney in support of Australia’s first responder community, who worked tirelessly over many weeks of the bush fire crisis.” Further details of the cruises and itineraries are still being worked out, and an announcement is expected next week.

Your comment is, if not bad, then undeniably late.

      Hey… China… stop creating new diseases K THANX…

Half the reason the ship is coming over here is because it's virus time! They know it's not on the ship, no one is buying tickets to go on the ship and the staff need something to do! At least this way they'll get a little bit of money spent onboard vs just sitting idle! There is a point where you might as well just dock and cut the motors due to fuel costs alone with too little passengers.

Did you enjoy your free Tim Tams yesterday?

        @dust
Haha I immediately thought the same thing!

Good luck not to catch dumbass virus from you

      • -5

Sounds like you might have already contracted it…

    Free beers for our volunteers!!!

Yikes - this is how we reward our brave Firefighters - out of the Frying Pan into the Wu-han.

    • +2

The cruise isn't taking them to China

  • Hopefully no singles supplements! A lot of those fireys etc will be single.

This is a pretty massive gesture. No doubt Cruises need some good PR at the moment.

Our tough stance on Corona Virus will have benefits for international demand ultimately as our reputation for a clean and healthy environment will be maintained.

  • If the feminist is right about domestic abuse spikes, this ship could have more biffo than schoolies!

    • oh don't start me that comment made my blood boil
how DARE she take a gutless potshot at people who risked their lives to help others

p.s. a lot of those firefighters are women will they go home and bash their husbands?

  • Too risky to go ATM, if someone on board have a flu symptom, will ruin the whole ship journey.

    • +2

      ATM is always risky

  • If you want to get sick.

  • Nice gesture. Making lemonade. I have a feeling that that my wife will have to pay the full rack rate to join the cruise. I guess that it might still work out better.

  • They could probably just leave the thing docked in the harbour as a water front hotel.

do they serve bat by any chance?

Sounds like a Trojan Horse to me

  • Our volunteers certainly deserved a good break. I would rather go fishing or exploring locally though instead of being stuck for a week on a giant diesel tin can provided by the company that's not getting the best marks in its efforts to improve or be transparent.

Cruise ships can emit as much particulate matter as a million cars every day and the air quality on deck can be as bad as the world’s most polluted cities link

Three cruise ships docked in Auckland today have been given "failed" grades for their air-pollution standards link

  • wonder where it will travel

I know lots of cruise ships have short journeys (just got out a couple of km) cause the next cruise starts in a week and it's cheaper to go out than pay docking fees

my relo went on one of those and it was like 700 bucks all inclusive

  • I wonder if they serve a particular mexican been at the cruise ship bar

  • How do you declare a ship free of the virus after 2 weeks away from China? I'm not sure of the virus' survivability outside a host, it could be really short (likely) or really long (unlikely). But I don't think that a company suggesting that their ship has been away for two weeks and the boat itself isn't showing any symptoms makes me believe the ship is virus free. How long does the virus last in an aircon stack, freezer, refrigerator etc. I think this may be anyone's guess at this point.

    • I think this may be anyone's guess at this point.

or, it isnt… and scientists know how long it survives outside the 'host'

or perhaps you're right, its all just guess work.

  • Has anyone seen any more details or where it will be announced. Royal Caribbean Facebook page perhaps?

    • Link with the entry form and all the details has been sent.

      • Where is the link?

        • If you are an RFS member it was emailed to you.

          • @frostee: Thanks mate. I’m not RFS but from another agency in first response. I thought we might have been included as well. I might have to call them tomorrow and ask!

  • I have cruised on the Spectrum last year, a month after its inaugural cruise. Amazing ship, I highly recommend it.

  • I reckon a cruise ship is the best place to last out a worldwide corona pandemic, that is if no-one aboard is infected.

    • There's a Simpsons episode on this, on youtube

  • Fantastic, now you can reuse you disposable P2 N95 masks from the fires on your cruise
