YouTube Premium INR ₹129/Month via YouTube India (VPN Required, Single ~$2.81/Month, Family ~$4.17, Student ~$1.73)

6560

Reposting previous deals as this is a great reminder for those unaware you can access YouTube premium at a fraction of the price it normally costs. Will come in handy right now with most of us at home. I'll copy paste the OP with thanks to Mitr & dealbot. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Edit: Found this comment from doweyy suggesting you can get it even cheaper as a student. Worth a shot!

Google has finally launched Youtube Premium in India for INR 129 (AUD ~2.81) and Family Membership for INR 189 (AUD ~4.12).
Comes with Youtube Music, No Ads in Youtube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

This is cheaper than was posted for using Russian subscription option https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414890

I have signed up after cancelling Russian plan with my Macquarie Debit card so no conversion charges.

Everything included in post by @Dealbot applies here too.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one, then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore)
2. Click on Paid Memberships(youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link(music.youtube.com)

    Just download Adblock for Youtube

    • doesn't work on your phone though. this is very useful if you use your phone and youtube a lot. like me.

  • Do I need VPN for amazon prime Indian subscription? $20 per year is way cheaper than 6.99 x 12 ~= $84 per year.

    • You don't get free delivery within Australia with an Indian AP subscription though, you'd only have access to digital prime content in India.

      • ah..ok. Useless then. Thanks.
Amazon is ramping up a lot in grocery and electronics areas these days. I love $18 or so for 36 coke cans delivered.

  • Any similar deal for Google One?

  • During account creation, I need to put in phone number for verification which will tell Google I am from Aus.

Anyway to get around this ?

    • Use a Gmail (existing if you like) account instead. There's an option to do that

      • Yes, I am using existing Youtube account with Gmail.

No option of India pricing. Still showing 14.99 price.

I am using India VPN with VanishedVPN using Seychelles connection.

I am surprise nobody share how to pretend as student?

For some reason it says payment method invalid when I go to pay. Any suggestions?

  • payment methods declined… thought UP debit card would work.

  • I confirm this works.
For existing youtube premium users, cancel your account, then activate again using a credit card.

Purchase family pack then share to 5 users less than $1 per user per month

  • I was under the russian youtube premium subscription, I cancelled it (don't pause it). Put on Nord VPN indian server, went incognito on chrome (in case of cookies), logged on youtube, got asked to confirm my identification through phone (i'm doing it on my laptop), clicked on my subscriptions, clicked on youtube premium, selected the family option, input card number (I have a NAB debit card). It took me something like 2 min to do and now I'm off doing my victory dance (bollywood style).

    Thanks for the bargain!

  • Thanks so much! Was actually considering paying the full aussie price but I couldnt justify spending more than i would on netflix just for no ads etc.

At this price can justify it.

    :)

  • Hi OzBargain Family,

Thank for your post and i have successfully created Family account. I will explain very simple so everyone can add their family members on their main account.

I have one Youtube account based Australia that i have created few years ago which is my main Family account. I have used Phantom VPN on my iphone and i choose India VPN which is free up too 500MB per day ( they have more countries).

    1) I use the same method above so i successful subscribed to YOUTUBE premium with my Common Bank details.
    2) I created new google mail account on my laptop, You can use Incognito mode on Chrome to do that and skip the phone numbers. You can have 2nd Gmail account.
    3) On India VPN mode,You use your main account to invite this 2nd Gmail account.
    4) On your phone, use Phantom VPN again with India VPN to log on your second gmail account then you can access your second account on premium.

For the 3rd ,4th,5th accounts your need to repeat step 3,4 you will access all your 2nd,3rd,4th,5th accounts to premium. it worked for me and my family.
P.S: From the 3rd,4th,5th Gmail accounts, Google will require you to put the phone number, you can add your own number for this verification step or add any phone numbers from your family members.

    Stay Safe Everyone
STAY HOME THAT WILL SAVE LIVES.

    • I just sent invitations to all my family members and they all approved? I'm a little confused.

      • some dont approve, i dont know for some reason :(. I have tried normal way but it doesnt work with me.

  • just wanted to know could i use this india vpn method for spotify ?

    • +2

Spotify and this almost same price. This would be better and India Spotify has limited options.

      • True

      • +2

Philippines Spotify is still the cheapest compared to other countries.

  • When I tried to join Youtube, after using vpn to india, and choose family subscirption, and then it said my itune subscription is in Australia, so I need to purchase from Australia.

    How can I overcome this?

    Thanks.
    I am using iphone 8+

    • do on android or pc to avoid overpaying too

      • Thank you for your advice

I use a PC, and just state of India, no need to put other address
and it is ok with 28 degrees

I now subscribe to Family premium.
However I cannot find a yearly subscription which presumably should be cheaper.

    • +1

worked for me with tunnelbear free vpn on PC… agree with BigBoy try it on pc or mac and use a non chrome browser so that your not already logged in etc (not sure if that is an issue but just makes things a little more straight forward) followed the instructions on the main page but disconnected from vpn before pressing Buy as some of the commentors mentioned to do… Good luck :)

Also i had no issue's adding family members they got premium straight away…

    • hi what is vpn and how do i get it

  • Can’t get past the Indian Phone number verification?!
How do you go past that?

    • you turn on the vpn after logging in.

      • But can’t even log in as need number to create an account!

  • Does the premium account allow live streaming from Mobile phone without the 1000 subscribers requirement?

Great ..! Just paid from my Indian bank account and escaped the conversion fee. I had used you tube vanced app before but deleted the app as it is not safe at all. It is a third party application.

  • Thanks OP. That's a lot of people from one address.

How to add Australian accounts to family?

  • +2

Better to create a brand new Google account separately for this in case wanting to revert to original location later on. Apparently not too simple to do so.

  • Joined via Phantom VPN and signed up to Family plan with 1st month free. Try to invite other family members, but getting this message even with the VPN still pointing at India: "Trouble joining family group. Looks like you're in a different country than the family manager.".

    • Same boat. Tried searching for a workaround on the previous deal post, but can't make it work. Any easy to follow fool proof. Tried adding "rellie" while in India but still same error

    • +1

      Hopefully this helps.
I encountered similar issue with my gf's account. Then I did the following:

      • Use VPN to India.
      • Login to my gf's google account.
      • wipe out the google pay profile or payment profile from the account (Go to the Payment > Settings > there is link on bottom of page). Please note that this will delete the payment history.
      • I add my credit card with the India address. The same card that I used to subscribed, and exactly same address.
      • Accept the invitation, and it works.
      • Then you could remove the credit card (or not).
      • wanted to upvote for this but it's 30 days old.

had to make an acct for my gf too but couldn't convert my individual premo acct to family so had to subscribe to family premo on a new google account and add members including myself.

this really helped when the different country error kept popping up. cheers.

  • Could someone please confirm again? If I use my primary Gmail acc for Android phone to sign up to YouTube India, I won't be able to use any Aussie app? And Play music will be primarily Indian chart?

If yes, is there a permanent workaround?

    • +1

Nope. All you get is Jai Ho! song.

  • I had no luck. Maybe my Seed4me.vpn is not that good? I did have aPremium membership. I set location to India.
All prices still come up in US Dollars at premium prices.

    • After nearly 2 hours, i put a 24hr version of cyberghost and it now works. Thanks op.
I missed the pip on my phone.

      • Thanks mate! Had the same issue and your comment saved me heaps of time. Cyberghost 24 hour free trial worked for me too. Cheers.

  • I noticed family membership shows up as "Free trial ends Jun 4, 2020"… did they extend the trial?

  • Hey @tightarse thanks for the post/info!

I'm just trying this now, using NordVPN, and connected to India, I have verified my student status.
But when I try to sign up, it shows the student membership is 13.99 AED (UAE Dirhams), which is around $5.9 AUD, instead or INR.
Can you help me with this?

When I check IP, it shows my IP is in Mumbai, so the VPN shouldn't be the issue.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    • I had the same issue but changed to chettai or W/E it's called and that worked fine.

  • A couple of days ago I got charged for the first time for my single subscription but I can see 2 separate charges of $2.73 & $2.63 in my bank account, bank has got no idea why I was charged twice, any advice please?

    • Is there an international transaction fee on your card?

  • Getting "General Error Occurred" when trying to pay. Tried putting in a new address, turning off VPN before payment, tried on laptop and mobile with no luck. Any advise?

  • Thanks OP.
Is there a way to pay for a whole year upfront?
I only see 1 or 3 months options.

  • Cheers, yeah I lose the charts option which I do like but after ditching the Google Music family plan (Aussie) I find I miss it too much and Spotify doesn't work as well on my family's eco-system.

  • Is this considered illegal?

  • Dollar is pretty good today so changed my AU sub to this. $3.61 for youtube premium family on a westpac card. Sure beats the 24 aud.

Free Tunnel Bear for Android app, didn't disconnect at payment, and immediately went through. My family was already setup previously. I would advise getting them added before the purchase.

Thanks TA and others for being the cheapest, no sorry, the most "cost effective" bar stools in AU (or india, depending on where my bear is tunnelling)

  • Is this still working?
    Tried with 2 Indian IPs.
Even changed my billing to IN and no help.
Only lets me choose normal Australian prices?

    Please help.

  • Have been using this for a year, now I have gone back to school and got a legit student email, any idea how to change my regular premium account to student account? Do I need a VPN to change?

  • looks good
does this also work with Netflix and any other subscriptions?

  • I’ve been getting this price ok for some time now but tried to sign my mate up using my VPN via India and its only showing the price in euro. Strange, I tried 2 different browsers and the app.

Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

  • I've been using Indian YouTube premium for almost two years now.

Anyone know how to switch this to a Family account?

  • Thanks op - this still works!
Here's an India address generator that worked for me.

  • This still works. If you're having issues, use the Cyberghost VPN 24 hour free trial and connect the VPN to India. This worked for me.

  • Hi,
I used the trick to sign youtube premium.
Now I need to add my friend on family plan but when he clicks the link it says ‘It seems you are in different country than the family plan manager’
I tried to sign using vpn on friends phone but same error
I tried to change the payment settings add new card with india address but same issue
    Any idea?

  • Just completed this. My tips/process is as follows

I did these on a windows PC, no issues.

If wanting to use the family plan then, then first create a family plan and add everyone in first as it is easier to get that working when everyone is in 'australia'.

If you have a existing paid youtube membership plan etc, cancel it and you have to wait till it expires before proceeding. You can't signup while you have a older membership that hasn't expired yet.

While you wait for your existing plan to expire, head to https://pay.google.com/ and create your indian address profile by clicking on settings, click the edit button next to country/region, click create new profile, select the india and fill in using the the address in the OP above.

Once the india address profile has been created, you can change back to Australian payment profile by clicking on edit button again and clicking Australia.

When you no longer have any paid active youtube memberships, its time to switch, so VPN in to India.

I used windscribe VPN as I had a free account. but had to add a custom plan @ $2USD/month to gain access to India. You cancel once you have signed up, as the VPN is only month to month.

Confirm you are in India - https://www.where-am-i.net/

    Head to https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

click on family membership, follow the prompts

I used a ANZ credit card, no issues at all.

Done (and cancel VPN plan if required)

    YMMV

My experience following this process for a family membership:

I had to delete the AU payment profile and create an Indian profile (using AU cc and a similar address in India, using a matching post code-for example, Melbourne 3000 might be something like 33000 in India, then you just Google an address around that neighbourhood… I used my actual street name, but Indian town and state). I had to do that for every family member, otherwise the message "different country" will show up, even when VPN was active. Once the family was set-up (using VPN), and all members living at the same address in India, I created my AU payment profile. My Google Pay didn't change in this process.

Google says the address might be checked every 30 days for eligibility (that was in the terms when I added members to my family). I decided to keep the Indian payment method as primary do avoid issues. The same for every family member. There is no impact on my daily use of Google services. I've noticed that some apps are actually cheaper when paid in INR than AUD. At home, my TV (Netflix Italy) is connected through an Italian VPN, the smartphones and Chromecast are connected through a US VPN, and the PC/laptops are in Australia. I still can select videos from my phone (US) and play on TV (IT) or Chromecast (US). Google nest devices are all connected through the US. I have a RT-AC86U with Merlin firmware redirecting devices through different VPNs. I haven't seen any Indian content, I can play Hulu from my phone to Chromecast.

I used the Urban Free VPN extension (Edge) to change the payment profiles.
