        • did you get cash back on Myki? I used machine to top up myki and no cash back.

          • @jowu15: yepp, I use the quick top up machines.

I haven't been travelling since march so might have changed.

          • @jowu15: try topping up at 7-11

  • +4

I just closed my HSBC global account as the login process and numerous passwords for security are a nightmare. I could never withdraw cash from a French ATM.and they couldn’t fix it. Hopeless support. Waste of time. Citibank works better.

  • +1

Old deal. and horrible sign up process.

    • -8

At the times when we are told not to leave the house, what a great idea to post a deal about "go out and pay with your card in person"

      Yeah, nah

EDIT: not just the sign-up process is terrible, but the app is the worst I've ever seen. Both confusing AF and ugly AF. Bad combination

      • Terrible sign up process and bad app but 2% back on all small purchases for the pain = sounds like a deal to me.

  • +1

Anything stopping me from opening the account and closing it once I get the $100?

    • Nothing at all

      • Cheers!

    • +1

3x 2 grands and then hasta la vista. Probably easier money then the tapping dance.

    • Bad sign up process
    • Get charged "overseas transaction fees" if for example a supplier is in China or if you buy from websites like Gearbest
    • lounge key pass did not work
    • absolutely horrible android app
    • customer service takes ages to answer calls
    • -2

"Get charged "overseas transaction fees" if for example a supplier is in China or if you buy from websites like Gearbest"

This applies to every single credit debit card, not just this one.

      • -2

But I've not been charged fees with other banks like NAB or Bankwest before.

        • Even when u buy from aliexpress or gearbest? Whats the conversion rate though?

          • @mrvaluepack: Not sure about the conversion rate. I cancelled the card after doing a balance transfer to another bank. Unable to see previous transactions in their app which was made by teenagers.

    • +1

      Get charged "overseas transaction fees"
Don't think they have that on this card…

lounge key pass did not work
That is for the Platinum Credit Card? You do realise that is a completely different product, right?

$100 Bonus for new HSBC customers
$100 Bonus9 when you deposit $2,000 or more each month for 3 consecutive months, within 6 months of opening your Everyday Global Account.

      • +1

So I can deposit $2000 and withdraw the next day?
        Repeat for 3 months.

      • hi there, am i missing something? i did not see on the website if $100 for new customer. But yes i read $100 for $2k deposit next 3 mths each times within 6 mths from account open.

Are we sure $100 for new customer?

        • From website
          "
$100 Bonus for new HSBC customers

$100 Bonus9 when you deposit $2,000 or more each month for 3 consecutive months, within 6 months of opening your Everyday Global Account."

  • I have a hsbc credit card
Does that exclude me as a new customer?

    • Yes, you will be ineligible for the cashback. I signed up for the same deal few months back but I didn't get the cashback because I had a savings account with them

    • +2

No, the T&Cs says existing customers, excluding Credit Card only customers. As long as you haven't had a bank account with them you're good.

      See: https://www.hsbc.com.au/content/dam/hsbc/au/docs/accounts/ev…

  • +2

I’ve had this since august and they were quick to pay the $100 bonus and cash back

It was very useful being able to deposit cash into the account at australia post

Wish they had Payid already though

  • Well…I've been with HSBC for years. It does not work with my Google Play somehow even I called them many times about this

    • I have the same issue ;(

      • You would have to call their customer care and they would get it enabled for you. Even when I added it there was just the option to call the bank, no email or sms verification. Kinda weird even though their site said email/sms verification is possible.

        • May I ask what number of customer care is? I've called 1300 782 811 and explicitly told them the contactless pay of my Google Pay failed to set up. And they claimed they have already enabled for me but still doesn't work :(

          • +1

@hp12345: It is just the number that shows up on Google pay to call the Bank at. Sometimes they tell that it is gonna take a while to be activated. If it not setup then just raise it as an issue/complaint. One option is to remove and re-add the card or try after reinstalling google pay.

Initially when I had issue with card setup, they outright blamed VISA and asked me to contact VISA. I had a 30 min call with the agent explaining him why HSBC has to fix the issue and it is not my responsibility to check with VISA. So yea, there are some morons in their as well..

  • ive just realised that some of my governement purchases have been earning zero points on my credit cards ,
so even if im an existing user that doesnt get $100 bonus, I guess i could use this account to pay these bills and get 2% cashback?

    will this work?

    • 2% cashback is on tap & pay below $100. Assuming your bills is below $100 and you are paying via tap & pay in person, then potentially yes (without reading the t&cs)? Are you paying your bills via tap & pay though?

      • +2

        ok thanks, sounds promising
I was paying these bills online, but happy to drop in into local postoffice and do less than $100

might sign up, after reading T/Cs

signed up and approved in a few mins, (existing customer)

        says its ready to use!

    • +2

Excluded are purchases made for business, commercial or government purposes (including bus, train and ferry), cash withdrawals, foreign and non-fiat currency transfers (such as Bitcoin), travellers' cheques, money orders or money transfers, car parking and vending machine transactions, point of sale cash withdrawals, debt repayments, refunds, payment reversals, gambling and transactions between HSBC accounts. HSBC may deduct payment of the Cashback offer where you reverse or cancel a transaction.

Not sure about Aus Post but i would imagine if you buy a stamp to test it out all other transactions should be the same?

      • geez, I didnt know that, thansk for the heads up!!

  • How long does it take to get the $100 bonus?
Is it necessary to use tap and pay to get the account opening bonus?

    • +1

for me, 1 business day after the third deposit

  • +1

Hello I've just read the terms and conditions. It seems pretty straight forward, and this is a great resource.

    https://www.hsbc.com.au/content/dam/hsbc/au/docs/accounts/ev…

I'll now be using this HSBC card for my daily purchases to benefit from 2% cashback on all transactions.

I'll deposit $2000 per month every month for 3 consecutive months to get the $100 bonus. Then will leave this account with just enough money to help with day to day expenses ($50 pwk for me approx).

    • I think you have to keep depositing $2000 each month to get the 2% cashback

      • -1

I don't believe this is the case

I'm 99% site because I thought this too, but was unable to find any information which suggests this.

        Can anyone please confirm?

        • +3

          It's in the PDS:

          • Cashback offer for HSBC Everyday Global Account customers
          • HSBC will pay 2% of certain transactions back into your HSBC
            Everyday Global Account.
          • This 2% Cashback offer:
            a) Is available to HSBC Everyday Global Account customers who
deposit 2,000 AUD or more into their HSBC Everyday Global
Account before the last Banking Day of each calendar month; and
            b) Applies from the moment the deposit is made until the last
Banking Day of the calendar month, as well as the following
            calendar month; and
            [a bunch more stuff]

          https://www.hsbc.com.au/content/dam/hsbc/au/docs/pdf/account…

So you could transfer $2000 on the first day of every second month

  • +3

I'll now be using this HSBC card for my daily purchases to benefit from 2% cashback on all transactions.

If most of your routine purchase is from Woolies/ Coles, you are better off using their egift cards which are generally available for 5% off (at least in case of Woolies, it's easy to buy).

Pain In The ARSE opening any acc with them,i can tell you that! After last time experience, wasted hours waiting, only to be told cant open

    • pain in the ass dealing with them PERIOD,

every call or contact ive had to make has been a head ache

  • I just signed up and they want me to visit the bank branch for ID verification or find an authorized referee and with the lockdown, there is no way this is an essential activity.
Chatted with support team and there isn't another option, so guess either the account activation will have to wait till relaxed rules or wait for the expiry a month from now.

  • +1

I have successfully opened the account. The process is quite big. They are asking many stupid questions such as your first deposit will be cash or non-cash and many more.
Finally was also able to get to the end of digital secure key thing setup but when setting up the password using app, it doesn't accept anything. Not numbers not characters. Even I enter letters only, the Complete Activation button is greyed out. Any advise?

    • Edit - Was able to do so when you use a combination of letters and numbers only.

  • +1

could I get the $100 bonus if I transfer the $200 in / out in the same day?

    • +1

Must deposit $2000 per month for 3 consecutive months to get the $100

      • +1

Can you withdraw the $2000 and do it again next month and still get the $100 bonus after the third deposit?

  • +2

I cannot describe how convoluted, complex and cumbersome the security with HSBC app is.

Interestingly, instead of just updating their app like a normal developer might, they made a SEPARATE new app. But it requires you to log into the old one to convert to the new. Convenient.

So I go back to the old. It seems I always need a "Digital Secure Key" which is fairly standard but every few times I update the app it seems to unregister my device. Probably my 5th de-registering now. Even if I have my password and email/sms handy, can't just generate a new one. Have to de-register the old one. Have to call support to do it. They want you to verify address/DOB/account number/name/licence number (intense!) just to de-register the old.

Then to register the new secure key, it's back to their janky app. Activation codes. Don't seem to be receiving both SMS and email (yes, need both). Yeesh, they're like 10 digits long. App crashes when I switch window to read the code. Handy.

App crashes in general actually. Loading screens occur basically every time I click a button. Many of them do not resolve or stop loading at all.

Figure I will try the website. App and website both start seizing because "multiple logins detected."

Anyway I haven't resolved any of this yet. But my conclusion is: HSBC does not feel like a "safe" place to keep my funds. I have no confidence that I would be able to access them. They feel like they're locked away even from me.

  • +1

I still have a "pending" account creation from the last time this deal was posted in August 2019!
"your application is being processed…We'll be in touch in the next few days to advise you of your application approval."
Yeah right. Very invasive signup questions and for me at least it got me nowhere.

    • Like what they asked which was invasive?

  • +1

The op needs to update this to read:

$100 Bonus9 when you deposit $2,000 or more each month for 3 consecutive months, within 6 months of opening your Everyday Global Account.

Both in title and also in the details, otherwise I read it as a simple $100 for opening up.

    • +1

      Cheers. Done.

  • Do i also need to open a Flexi saver account with them as well for this offer?
Or just transfer $2000 to the credit card to avail the offer?

  • I have a Credit card with HSBC, would they give me $100 for opening a new saving account or im considered not a "new customer".

  • absolute shit bank…not worth it….

  • +2

Not sure why the negativity and slack given regarding the application process… What was all the fuss?

Got my "Important information about your new HSBC Everyday Global Account&HSBC Flexi Saver Account" email pretty much instantly after my application that took no more than 5 minutes.

This email included a retrieval of application link, resulting in the following when I searched my Application Reference Code…

Congratulations! Your account is now open and ready for use.

Now to meet the conditions to get my $100 joining bonus, thanks OP!

    • Many thanks for this hint. I had applied on thursday and got message that i would be contacted to confirm a few things in the next two days. I was thinking it was taking too long so used your advice and used the email i received on Thursday to search for my Application Reference Code and the account shows it is open. :)

    • +1 for this tip too! After a week I hadn't heard anything from HSBC from completing my application, so I looked up my reference code and boom approved!
Yes the setup is painful compared to others, but it did work for me!

  • +2

Does anyone know if it's possible to deposit $2000 each month and transfer to another account to still meet the conditions? It doesn't require the $2000 to stay in the account, correct?

    • +1

I think so. I just keep them for 3 days. I can update you after 3 months once I get the bonus.

      • Got the bonus as soon as the third deposit hits the account.

        • so you transferred back 2000 every month?

    • +1

You can withdraw it as soon as it hits the account.

  • Visa payWave, Apple Pay or Google Pay™

Does that mean if i just tap with the card it won't work? And I need to use google pay for android

    • Tapping the card = paywave. So you are fine.

Shame there is no Samsung Pay, would be great to pay with my galaxy watch.

      • nice, I tried it for the first time a few hours ago,

        $99 transaction
havent done the $2000 transfer, but I assume the 2% cashback will track within a few days

  • confused,

Ops link says 2% cash back default,

whilst the mobile webpage has 2% cash back under extras which you need to activate by $2000x3 months

    • You need to deposit $2000, in order to get the 2% cashback during the month of deposit, and the month after that.

      • ah, would it be too late to deposit after the transaction?

        • +3

As soon as your $2000 hits the account, the 2% offer is available. This would take time, even up to 1-2 days. So hard to say.

  • +1

Application is still pending after a week.
Haven't received any HSBC calls but have received a lot of fraud and spam calls after signing up to this..

    • see post above from AnDyStYLe, it helped me.

    • Yeah same with me, retrieved my application with code and says my application is still processing 16 days after submitting my application.

  • interesting feature

deposited $2k, and got an email "Congratulations, you have unlocked Everyday Extras"

so for next month, is the 2% cashback applicable only after I deposit $2k again? or if I deposit mid month, it wont be valid from 1st may until deposit?

    • +2

Next month is already covered, you can deposit anytime next month. You won't be receiving another email next month about the deposit, your "Everyday Extras" will simply be continuous.

      • +3

        Thanks for the clarification
I reckon I'll be doing using this every month for all my governement charges that I normally pay by credit card

        • +1

According to the email I got, government charges excluded. Including bus train and ferry.

          • +1

@haemolysis: i think you are right, I just realised

im going to pay a bill at aust post and see how that goes,
            it might work,
if not at least I can get my $100 and close the account,
tapping multiple times a month is going to be a paib

      • one more question,
my extras activated on the 24th April,
do i have to redeposit before the 24th or from the calendar month of april (ie 24-30th april)

        • +1

Since you deposited in April, next deposit can be anytime during May, which will give you extras through to end June.

          • @bluesky: thansk for clarifying,

deposit $2k per month sounds pretty straight fwd but once you actually question it, its not that straight fwd:)

  • Just took a few minutes to fill in all the application. The bank account was opened in just seconds after I hit submit. Spent a few minutes to set up the app and all good to go.

  • Absolutely shocking service… I've been trying to get a statement generated because the one in the system is too old. None of the customer service agents (phone & chat) have no idea about what I'm trying to say….

  • The online application link does not seem to be working at the moment. https://imgur.com/a/thqunvW

  • +3

I just got my $100, got right away when the 3rd $2000 hit the bank, getting $100 sure feels good, just made my day.

  • +2

    Just got mine too!!

    Woo

Given the issues ive had with my account recently

    Surprised I got it!!

    Happy

  • does anyone know

my statement comes out 15th of month

does the $2k deposit, and 2% max cut off apply for the calendar month or my statement month?

    • +1

      Calendar month.

  • Wow wee… I just made my last of three $2000 deposits yesterday, checked my account and already see that bonus $100!

For each and every deposit I made each month, I simply withdrew it straight back when I saw the funds the next day.

    Too easy!

  • Do we get 2% cashback on the $100 bonus?
