840

Optus iPad Air 3 Cellular 10.5” 256GB with 25GB Data $46.68 for 24 Months / 64GB Model $42.39
This is a big price drop.
Plans with more Data options Available also.
No Plan Cancellation fees Only have to pay out device.
Which is $657.36 64Gb Model
$760.32 256gb Model
I noticed that the Ipad 7th prices have gone up so possibly a mistake and someones mixed up prices?
Have a look at retail prices for these models compared to these prices. Most big retailers have the 256gb Cellular for $1197 to $1199 .It is a great deal if it lasts.
Update I called an Optus store and they confirmed they are on discount at the moment.
Flybuys link if you have flybuys you can get 2500 Bonus points (equivalent to $12.50 in shopping value) if you stay with the plan a minimum of 3 months.
Thanks to @Fozzie and @Melbourne Matt for pointing this out.

when is the iPad Air 4 coming out?

  • Says it’s all out of stock? 64 & 256?

    • +1

My bad, only the dark colour 🤦🏼‍♂️

      • only the dark colour

All the dark 9.8 inch ones are gone?

        • Space grey 64gb & 256gb are OOS

          • +1

            @Simbooo: that's a bit stiff… 😢

            • +3

@jv: you seem to know alot about the black 9.8 inch model

  • +4

I'm loving my current $50 MBB at 200gb/month from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/409264

    • Me too. But these sort of deal is forever gone. My contract is due to renew soon.

      • if on a good deal , you dont have to renew

      • I picked up this iPP https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/356773
Just out of contract and was hoping to finds something comparable - nope. Can't believe they don't even has 200GB sim-only plans now!

      • Hopefully I can retain that price but if it doesn't, the original pricing for 200gb back 2 years ago is $80, which isn't so bad. Don't think you can find a good ol' 200gb for $80 these days.

    • I got this one as well, but 256Gb.

  • +1

I was kind of sad to see these prices as I had just seen it after arriving home and opening up an Ipad 7th 128gb I had purchased for $42 Month over 24 months with Optus a week before and the Ipad arrived today.

    • Change of mind return?

      • +1

I already opened it so I don’t think so. So far I really like the 7th though it has better than I expected sound quality and 10.2” Screen looks great.

        • -1

You normally get a window to return it. It's worthwhile investigating it.

          • @BillyG687: Thanks it would be good but I just looked up on the Optus website and it looks like its only eligible for return in the first 14 days if its unused.

  • +2

Any deal on iPad Pro plan anywhere?

    • looking for the same, especially for the old 2018 ipad pros in a plan

      • Why especially the 2018 pros?

        • +3

Because cheaper and same chip as the new 2020 models…if you don't mind no LIDAR camera might be good deal and still compatible with the new magic keyboard.

  • When or if you cancel, do you have to pay out the device rrp or the discounted price?

    • Just the remaining Optus device repayments. The price includes $15 Month Data plan plus device repayments depending on how many months the plan is and which device. They are listed on the site and are nowhere near retail price. So if you cancel you take away the $15 month part and only pay for the remaining actual device repayments.

  • Do optus still offer extra $10 off to combine with existing account?

    • Not that I know of they used to have a 25% off for second device but that was for Mobiles only.

    • I called them today regarding second service discount but this isn’t applicable to iPads.

  • I want to pull the trigger on the 256gb model but only the silver and gold available. I prefer black border on the display, wish the space grey was in stock.

Anyone know best deal on how to get a 2018/2020 pro?

    • +1

Call some Optus physical stores to see if they have stock of the black one.
Even if they don’t have it in stock you can probably order it there anyway. That’s how I got my last Ipad even though at the time you couldn’t order online because it said no stock physical shops seem to be able to get preference for stock.

  • -1

The site isn't clear. Anyone know if they are saying it's bonus 25GB per month or 25GB for the entire 24 months?

    • -1

Dude, it says “MONTHLY data breakdown” on the front page.

      • It does but then it says

20GB bonus data for 24 months.

There's no need for the "for 24 months".

        Just "20GB bonus data."

        • “Monthly” data allowance is referred to on the splash screen, the CIS, the plan allowances, everywhere. It’s not hard to figure out.

    • E.g. for $15 Data Plan it says
      25GB for 24 months
      5GB every month after that
      Monthly Data Breakdown:
      -5GB included data
-20GB bonus data for 24 months

Reading that in its entirety tell you that it's 25GB (per month) for 24 months and 5GB every month after that. Then they say it another way, it's 5GB included data (per month) with 20GB bonus (per month) for 24 months.

It's implicit that it's "per month". What they're emphasising by "for 24 months" is that the bonus data is only for 24 months and the bonus data goes to zero in month 25th and after.

  • +4

Best to go on the 36 months contract and then cancel after few months of using the service. In the end you pay around $760 for the 256gb iPad + the monthly fee you used.

  • +2

Thank you OP - just got myself a Silver 256GB over 12 months - good deal IMHO $760 for ipad and $180 for data, and i was already paying the $15 p/m for data.

    • No worries glad you got a good deal.

  • How does the cancelled device fee work. I called the store and they said the remainder of about 870 (minus whatever was already paid). Is there any other fees?

    • +1

You didn’t say which Ipad they quoted you 870 for but neither would cost that much with this online price. I assume the person you spoke to wasn’t taking note the plan is month to month. If you speak to the store make sure you tell them you are talking about the online price and ask if that’s the same deal they can give you.
The plan is $15 for the Data month to month plus the stated device fee per month.
You only have to pay for the month of data you have used and then payout the remainder of device payments not paid when you cancel.
The actual contract should state the device cost + $15 as the Total Minimum Contract Term which is what it would cost if you cancel only using the first months data.

The following is from the Critical Information Summary

      • Data Plan – Month-to-month
      • These plans are Mobile Data Plan services which include a monthly data allowance for use within Australia.

      • There are no plan cancellation fees. If applicable, you’ll need to pay out any remaining device payments in full and all charges incurred up to the cancellation date.

When it says on the Optus Link Minimum Total Cost over 12, 24 or 36 Months its only talking about the minimum total cost if you stay with them for whichever term you chose for that amount of time. Don’t worry your contract will show the real minimum which is only 1 month.

      • Thanks. The lady in store was quoting for the 256gb silver air 3. She said there was a subsidy / discount that had to be paid if cancelled early that equated ti device cost of about 870. If you calculate the device cost it wirms out at 760. Hence why i am not sure if there was any other cost as the quoted cost from instore was higher than device cost

        • +1

Here is an example of an Ipad 7th I recently purchased which said on the website minimum total cost over 24 months $1008 but look at the actual contract after signing up it says Minimum $663 which is what it would cost if I cancel straight away.( Which I don’t plan to do but thats all it would cost me)
          https://imgur.com/a/799t1bs
I would try and speak to someone else at another store if you can and find out. But make sure you show them what it says online and say you want the exact same contract terms as the Ipad air 256gb listed here.

          • @ONSALE: Thanks fir that. Appreciate you taking the time to explain and upload the contract. You would think the would just say that in the deal a bit clearer

            • +1

@tpenthouse: No worries also when I went to get the Ipad 7th they tried to sell it to me in store with only 5gb of data and said they didn’t know about any bonus data and I had to show them the online site for them to change it and she went on the computer and finally found the option to add the bonus data and they really tried to push for a $50 Screen protecter and $80 case added to contract which I had to say no about 3 times and I said they were cheap on ebay. They even went and said oh but if you get it on ebay it may not arrive in time to put on the ipad lol.

          • @ONSALE: i'm receiving different contract terms here "Total minimum cost over contract term(s) $1,120.32. https://imgur.com/a/xLsimy7
am i missing something here? did you sign up as a new customer or existing customer.

            • @AutumnSnow: I signed up as an existing Customer instore and also that was with ipad 7th the one i listed as an example but the Month to Month contract part is the same in the Critical Information Summary as the the Ipad Air listed here.
I am trying to work out your contract you posted.
Did you get yours online or instore?

              • @ONSALE: I got it online. Perhaps I need to cancel the month to month data plan to reflect the purchasing price of the device since there is no cancelation fees. This is the only explanation I can come up with. Maybe you already cancelled the data plan and your contract reflected that.

                • @AutumnSnow: Hmmm that was the contract I got in store and I haven’t cancelled anything. If you look on the recurring monthly cost next to the $15 data part on the contract i uploaded it says Term Months 1 on yours it says Term Months 24.
I am not sure why as it clearly says Month to Month and cancel and only pay out the device on the Critical Information Summary. I hope that they will honour the Critical Information Summary if you want to cancel after 1 month they really have to as thats what it says.

            • @AutumnSnow: @AutumnSnow I have similar contract as your (minus optus sports) and I bought online. Now I wonder can I cancel data plan and keep the device for $760.

              • +4

@SJ50: Same here — opted for the 256GB on 12 months and my contract has the min cost as 12 * $15 plus the device payments (= $940.32), which does seem to contradict the terms that say you can cancel after 1 month and only pay the device payments. As the OP says, minimum cost should be 1x $15 plus the device payments ($775.32). Either way this is a great deal — I was looking at getting the wifi model and even if they were to hold me to a full 12 months of the data plan it's cheaper than I can get one of those outright. I guess Optus have some serious stock they need to clear?

                Thanks OP.

Also as others have mentioned if you go via https://offer.optus.com.au/mbb/flybuys/?source=flybuys_metro… you can get some Flybuys points too although 2,500 pts = $12.50 and you need to be connected for 90 days so only worth it if you were planning to keep the data plan anyway.

  • +1

pull the trigger on the 256gb silver, thanks op

    • no worries it should last quite a few years 256gb and good processing power

  • Just want to know if I can use the SIM in this offer in a 4G modem? Thank you.

    • Yes as long as your modem takes a sim and is not locked to a different network it should be fine.

      • Thank you very much

    • Please keep in mind, $10 for each extra 1GB over the included data allowance.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Bought for MIL. She wanted the iPad 10.2 2019 128gb wifi but this is so much better.

  • +2

About $979 for the 64GB versions in stores now. Still a saving of about $300 off the RRP. Thinking of getting a new iPad 7th Gen for the kids but disliking the price hike over the last month due to high demands. Maybe this will be a better option.

    • This is an outstanding tablet compared to the iPad 7th. It will last years

  • Amazing price! I wondering if you could use esim in your phone for the data? I am thinking of either cancelling early or do one year @$15. If I could use esim in iPhone it would be fabulous

    • +1

I am thinking the same. Do 1 year @$15 so it could be paid out in 12 instalments. That would be much easier than just forking out $657 when terminating immediately. 25GB data is is really good. Wish Optus does POM data plans.

      • Just to let you know I have as esim on iPhone and seems to work no dramas. I am finishing up with belong, I’ll probably just go to dodo $5 all unlimited and use data from iPad :)

  • Damn, looks like the price for 256gb went up to $56.68 P/m on 24 months :/

    • +1

Oh wait nvm, that's just me being silly lmao

  • +2

Op if you got the email from Optus you can get 2500 flybuys! Better than nothing but very low compared to other plans.

    • +1

Missed out on $12.50 of points :(
Where were you yesterday @fozzie lol

      • Lol I know it’s not much but I remembered 🤣

    • +1

Thanks Fozzie I have added the flybuys link to the main description.

  • +1

Anyway I pulled the trigger! I got a gold one via flybuys. Only 25000 but better than nothing. Given a temporary order number. Feeling excited!

    • It's only 2500 not 25000

      • Sorry that’s what I meant. I knew it isn’t much

  • I got a message that my order will be assessed. Anyone got instant order approval confirmation ?

    • +1

Mine was instant, but am already an Optus customer with an active post-paid plan, so there was no credit check required or anything like that.

      • Mine as well, I have a temporary order number 🙄

        • I worry that they will run out of stock while we are being credit assessed.

          • @huzefa-oz: I suppose we could give them a call?

            • @fozzie: Hi, give them a call because the online orders aren’t working. Something weird when I clicked to accept it said $1300 over 12 months but then the guy said that it is $940.32. I will read all the paperwork properly once it arrives. Not sure if I’ll keep the plan, might cancel and keep the iPad :)

  • -1

Do we get an invoice for the ipad (for warranty claim etc)?

    • +1

      Of course you will

  • -1

Optus website is down. This thread worked as a DDOS attack to them.

    • +3

Funny thing is the deal only has 42 heat. It’s should be way hotter!

  • It was hard to find yesterday and only if logged in and showing new deals. I couldn’t find it in the first 7 pages (didn’t check any past that) on the normal list at all until today.

  • +2

Just now bought the 256 gb silver for $760.32 outright at Optus store. If you don't want the data buy it outright.

    • great work!

  • +1

I went into store and bought one (256GB). they said they would not sell it outright and had to be on a contract (1month)as $775.

update - went onto messaging chat on app and cancelled just now so cost was $760 as well.

    • Well done you got yourself a bargain!

    • Quick question: to chat do I need to do via app? I ordered online so iPad not here yet, but I wouldn’t mind just buying outright.

    • Does the $760.32 invoice say it's for the cancellation fee or for the iPad?

  • Thanks for the help…store could have been a bit clearer with buying outright. But easy enough to sort on chat.

    • No worries

  • good deal…

  • +1

I was trying to get an ipad pro 10.5 rather than AIR 3…similar price but the pro has 120htz screen and larger ram 4GB vs 3GB, just with slightly slower chip… But for this price the AIR 3 is definitely no brainer, bought the silver one 256gb received confirmation in one hour. thanks OP.

    • no worries

  • Damn the 7th gen is out of stock now :(

  • +1

Danz unless you really prefer the ipad 7th the Air is a better deal price wise at the moment. You should be able to still order a 7th at a physical store just call one up and see if you really want one.

    • Ah good idea, thanks man. I don't actually need need cellular but the 7th gen seem to work out to be about the same price as the WiFi only one in storeso thought may as well have the extra cellular option.

      • +1

No brainer why would you go for an lower specs iPad for the same money?

  • Anyone know why Optus is doing a deal on iPads? are they clearing stock for a new model?

  • +3

    Item received.

Ordered at 10:50 am 22 April
Received at 8:30 am 23 April

It break my online shopping record

  • Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger this morning.

Also thanks to fozzie on the flybuys points. I couldn't claim it when using an existing account and I wasn't going to create a new account only to get it merged. Hope the Optus team will add the flybuys points afterwards or give me the equivalent discount off the plan.
