    Is g-sync better than kitchen-sync?

    • I've yet to see something that has everything thrown in and the kitchen-sync so who knows.

    • +1

Snoop says "you ain't no G" so it would appear so. What are we kitchen-syncing?

(This is actually Freesync, aka 'G-Sync Compatible' but no specific G-Sync scaler module built in)

      • +1

Is this a free sync that’s been tested and approved as Gsync compatible by Nvidia? If it’s not a Gsync hardware solution or listed as ‘software’ compatible by Nvidia then I don’t think it should be labelled as such (at least in the title).

        • I just bought this, it is freesync but verified by Nvidia to have G-Sync support.

You can check it on here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/geforce/products/g-sync-monitor…

Theoretically it means it will support a much larger range of adaptive sync enabled devices (like next gen consoles) since it has support for both

          • @Dudeface101: GSync Compatible = Freesync over DisplayPort implementation that has been approved by NVIDIA to be enabled by default.

It is not inherently HDMI VRR compatible, which is what the consoles will need. Freesync over HDMI is a different thing entirely, though this monitor probably supports that.

            • @jasswolf: @jasswolf I think you just agreed with me. I was just saying it will work with both g sync and freesync.

It does support freesync over HDMI, however apparently only up to 100hz. didn't know next gen were sticking with HDMI so that's interesting. I wouldn't say freesync over HDMI is entirely different, it's still all variable refresh rate tech.

@Dudeface101: Ok, I'm going to have to write this out in full so you're following.

DisplayPort Adaptive Sync = Freesync = can have Adaptive Sync enabled in NVIDIA driver

NVIDIA GSync DisplayPort Compatibility = extra testing on these devices, then NVIDIA enables DisplayPort Adaptive Sync by default when one of these monitors is detected

NVIDIA Hardware GSync = an additional piece of hardware (FPGA) that enables variable overdrive (not normally available on Freesync monitors), which is an improvement due to the optimal overdrive settings for high refresh rates usually not being the same for low refresh rates.

HDMI VRR = HDMI Adaptive Sync

NVIDIA GSync HDMI Compatibility = extra testing on these devices, then NVIDIA enables HDMI VRR by default when one of these monitors is detected

Freesync over HDMI = proprietary implementation ported from the DisplayPort Adaptive Sync standard by AMD, exclusive to AMD devices

So a device can have GSync compatibility for both HDMI and DisplayPort, but you need to check the wording carefully. As of right now, I think there is only one such device, but going forward, most new monitors should have both HDMI and DisplayPort adaptive sync, but NVIDIA compatibility is a different thing, and does not guarantee both.

@jasswolf: Thank you for the information. You are very smart and I am now understanding the differences.

      Personal preference really.
      I prefer G-sync, wife prefers kitchen-sync.

  • +28

    oh dear.

    better than n-sync.

    Buy, Buy, Buy

  • +7

Great monitor but definitely not a bargain at this price

  • How does this compare to Samsung's 27 inch 1440p 144hz monitor? Something like this, or this?

    • +1

Both are VA panels. Cheaper, better contrast but dark-level smearing. I would always go IPS at the same refresh rate personally.

      • How noticeable do you think the smearing would be? Like would it ruin gameplay?

        • +1

          Like would it ruin gameplay?

          No.

    • +2

Those panels are VA, this is IPS

Instead of this, gamers should go with the Acer x34P

    34" Ultrawide, 3440x1440, IPS, 120Hz, G-sync.

Only a little more $$, but a lot more screen!

    • Agreed, I own both, 144hz —> 120hz is a minor downgrade. 21:9 —> 16:9 is a major one

    • +1

Best monitor ever the Acer Predator.

    • There any good deals for this around though at the moment? Monitors are the new toilet paper…

    • Whilst I have one and agree it's a better option, they are roughly $300 more than this at the moment. Not exactlty, "a little more"

    • +1

I have a x34p and love it. Beware some people just don't gel with ultra-wides (They would rather have two 24" or 27" monitors side by side) For that scenario I would recommend the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD 27" 1440P, 144Hz, with Adaptive Sync support and IPS panel.
I have one of the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD next to the 34p and it's a great monitor! Comparing them both the 34P has a more natural colour balance, panel bezels are thinner and monitor design to me just looks better. X34p also has RGB lighting (If that matters to you) the Viewsonic doesn't. The Viewsonic stand is pretty darn basic and has minimal adjustment (Get yourself a monitor arm and VESA mount it) Also the X34p OSD visuals and rear controls are better than the Viewsonic VX2758. The Viewsonic VX2758 does go brighter by a smidge (both go very bright) Contrast is about the same on both monitors but the colours are a little more vivid and pop more on the Viewsonic. I agree the LG27GL850 is the better monitor but not by much and certainly not twice as good! In my view buy two Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD 27" (Horrendous model name) monitors ($440) for pretty much the same price as one LG 27GL850. The Viewsonic was also very highly regarded in reviews, especially from Hardware unboxed. Just my 2c worth

    • Will be much harder to run at full res tho.

    • What video card do you have?

    • How when it is out of stock

    • There seemed to be a lot more negative reviews floating around for the Nitro. Check out some in depth comparisons before going for this one

  • +1

Been looking to upgrade for a while.
Probably cheapest in stock shop atm, but these are around 650-700 in December/Jan.
I think I'll hold out for a bit longer.

    • +1

March 15th I bought it on $704 from computer alliance on ebay.

I bought it then on the assumption it will go up in price, and thankfully made the right decision.

It's definitely a good monitor, don't get headaches like I used to from my old 60hz monitor

  • I won the panel lottery on this with bugger all blacklight bleed and the colour calibration out of the box was outstanding, but the device ID on the USB hub seems to be corrupt so despite the USB hub working and devices connected also having no problems, the LG On-screen Control software doesn't detect it as connected and won't allow me to update the firmware. I bought from Umart in early February for around $699 and because I was fighting with them at the time I tried going to LG directly about the issue, which I've seen that other people have also had online but no one has been able to fix. Talking to a service agent they decided to send me a replacement USB3 A to B connector which only arrived last week, and lo-and-behold it didn't fix the issue. I need to decide now whether it is worth going back to Umart and being without the monitor for weeks/getting a replacement with a worse panel.

Long story short, it's a good monitor that depending on luck can be great - but seems to have some pretty inconsistent manufacturing QC from my travels around the net looking for a solution to my issue.

    • +1

I too have the issue where it the monitor is detected as as a corrupt usb device, despite that as a USB hub it works flawlessly.

I spoke with LG Australia about it and they provided zero help, so I've decided to live it for the time being (the only real issue it causes is increased boot times, so I unplug it when I boot). If it becomes a bigger problem in the future I'll deal with it then. I'm far too happy with the quality of the panel I've got to risk getting one with dead pixels or excessive backlight bleed.

    • Same thing regarding usb not recognised correctly for me.

Can't update the firmware due to this issue

  • Honest question, how important is 144 Hz vs. 60 Hz.

    • +5

It's the most important upgrade in gaming in a long time, frankly. If you have the GPU for it (or if you play old games) it's the best thing you could do imo. Further increases past 100Hz are less noticeable so the return for pushing your GPU harder is less, but that's just me.

If you don't play games then it would be less important, but even for general use higher refresh feels better.

If you had to pick between higher refresh rates or higher resolution and texture details, what would you choose?

Only reason I ask is that I've spent the past decade chasing after higher resolutions and cranking texture details and graphical effects. I've always thought of high refresh rate as something more for the CS:GO pros who actually have the reactions to be able to take advantage of seeing the quicker refresh. However, it seems to have become really mainstream over the past few years.

Don’t support that seller they raised there price as soon as the sale started.

  • I agree with Sinewaves 100 percent if you have a card that can pump out 100fps, then having a 100 hz refresh rate and sync (G/Free/Both) is fantastic and is a significant upgrade over a 60hz panel. I personally cannot tell the difference at all between 100hz and up my self, but experiences will vary.

  • So is HDR10 same as HDR 1000 rating?

    • No. HDR10 is like an alternative to Dolby Vision.

HDR 1000 signifies the ability to show 1000nits of brightness. Which is actual 'real' HDR spec.

HDR1000 generally costs ALOT in a Monitor.

    • HDR10 is a spec that allows them to advertise something as HDR that you would never use for it. On this monitor it washes out colours if something auto-detects the HDR and turns it on.

  • +1

I have this monitor and it is fantastic. Would def recommend, maybe just nor at this price.

  • Ahh you just missed it by a day. This was $773 with using the last eBay code from 2 different sellers. I ordered one and waiting for it to arrive.

    • Next time, please share.

  • Looking for a decent and cheap 2.5k res. monitor for connecting to macbook pro (not gaming). Any suggestions?

  • -1

LOL THIS USE TO SELL AT 750 DAYUM.

  • Any budget 27" 2k 144hz recommendations?

  • Any recommendations of a decent ultrawide using this eBay code? Under $1k.
