    Expect a costly winter bill!

    • What are you talking about, power kw electricity actually cost less than gas and moat of electric heater are 100% or around that efficiency. Gas is no where near it

      • +4

You moght want to check your bill and redo the math

        • Done it already, roughly 135 per month, while gas will go at least 400 per 2 months. And furthermore i think last year i posted a topic about heating, cooling and energy cost in which i broke down a pretty detail per kw what cost to heat the room up by 1 C, given that your room is relatively insulated.

            • +1

@spaceflight: I read these articles alot back then but you have to do the math yourself based on your house, a lot of these article pretty much paid by gas companies anyway. Remember way back then when rumour about pepsi and coke paid for 'scientist' to said that drinking softdrink is fine, just a little bit not going to kill you and such. Anyway. I did the math, tested myself, and i still remembered the cost, gas heater on from 9pm to 6 am daily, 21C after 2 months the bill was around $400, for heating and instant gas water only, however same routine but ebill only 150 per month which included heating, light fridge, etc especially my power hunger computer usually ran at max power as i did a lot of rendering back then
Last but not least even with the best ducted gas heater, it is only 80 or abit more efficiency, unless you have those single room one but 1MJ of gas is not a lot, and it doesnt contain a lot of power either. Remember the charge you in MJ but the meter is in m3 and when you convered it to MJ then to kw, you will see

              • @hunterhalo:

you have to do the math yourself based on your house

                The house makes no difference.
You are talking about the heating potential and cost of 2 types of energy.
                The house is irrelevant.

a lot of these article pretty much paid by gas companies anyway.

                No they aren't.

Remember way back then when rumour about pepsi and coke paid for 'scientist' to said that drinking softdrink is fine, just a little bit not going to kill you and such.

No I don't remember that. But drinking soft drink in moderation will not kill you.

Anyway. I did the math, tested myself

No you didn't. You did a pointless 'experiment'

gas heater on from 9pm to 6 am daily, 21C after 2 months the bill was around $400, for heating and instant gas water only, however same routine but ebill only 150 per month which included heating, light fridge, etc especially my power hunger computer usually ran at max power as i did a lot of rendering back then

So maybe the 2 months you used gas were significantly colder than when you did the electricity test. So the heater had to run more.
You can never test reliably like that as you can't control the biggest variable there is, the weather.

Last but not least even with the best ducted gas heater, it is only 80 or abit more efficiency

Which is okay as gas is significantly cheaper.

but 1MJ of gas is not a lot, and it doesnt contain a lot of power either

                So?
1mj is just a unit of energy.

                The article explained that

So gas is the cheapest option, right? Well, yes, but that’s not the whole story. Sure, a megajoule of gas is considerably cheaper than a kilowatt-hour of electricity, but a kWh is also a lot more energy than a MJ. For example, a typical electric oven consumes about 2.3kWh of electricity, while a typical gas oven will use approximately 12MJ per hour.
Assuming an average electricity usage rate of 33c/kWh and an average gas rate of 4c/MJ, an electric oven will cost 76c per hour to run, while a gas oven will cost 48c per hour.

Remember the charge you in MJ but the meter is in m3

                So?

and when you convered it to MJ then to kw, you will see

Yes 1mj has less energy than 1kw however that's irrelevant.

They use gas to make electricity, and they need to make a profit on the electricity so why would electricity be cheaper.

Using raw ingredients (gas) to make something is cheaper than using the finished product (electricity) to make the same thing

has remote so its great for rooms

  • +3

Got this heater. The remote is handy and it heats my bedroom quickly. Really good price for it.

  • Got one. Thanks :)

No issues with the heater but just bear in mind that these are no more efficient then any other electric non-heatpump heater, e.g. a reverse cycle A/C system. That means oil/radiant/fan heaters etc.

True, you will get local heat as it's directional and hence have their place but overall, a reverse cycle A/C system is typically 2/3 times as efficient in terms of power consumption/cost.

Note - some portable A/C units are just fancy fan heaters when in heating mode.

  • OOS and back to $129 :(

      hit the "Report" button

      • Cheers!

  • This is good for what it does. I have one that I Had on my feet to warm me that pointed heat so directly that I litterally got blisters and peeling skin. This one has never done that.

I get they are inefficient - but when you're a woman with cold ankles, a directional portable heat source is great.

    • Socks and Hgg Boots are good for your ankles too. They don't cost anything to run either.

      • They've never solved the above problem for me.

  • +1

Well this might as well be removed or closed or whatever it's back to double the price

2200W, like keeping a vacuum cleaner running constantly. Probably cheaper to buy the oil fin heaters.

  • could this be used in the bathroom, would the steam from showers cause any safty issue?

    • Keen to know too!

  • I remember getting a small ceramic heater from Tricky Dicky 25 years or so ago. Still got it too though not as fancy as this De'Longhi.
Thermostat controlled so as space warms up the fan speed and wattage use drop down.

  • Wow is is heater time already? I'm still running air con here at SE QLD

    • +1

Haha funny, it is heater time for month in Mel already, though i only need it at night
