So I can buy one white and one black?

Wonder why they're sold individually, not like this is a great form-factor for a center.

    • +2

This is not a centre (Q650, Q250), They are generally sold in Pairs, Amazon is weird and frequently sells the KEF's as individuals.

      • +4

Not just Amazon. It's a Kef thing. The Q550 is also sold individually on Kef US official site

        • +1

They must be coming from the US, as I have only seen floor-standing speakers from the US sold as an individual.

    • It's definitely odd to see home theatre speakers sold individually, but pro audio stuff (studios, performance, etc) just about only gets sold individually so it's not completely unheard of.

    • Think it's great. It's the way it's supposed to be. Centre speakers are meant to have the most content going through them and need the highest it can be for power and frequency. Even though in home cinemas it's hard to place them but in cinemas left, right and centre speakers are identical behind the screen. Better off lying it on its side then having a small tinny centre speaker with no balls

Would jump at this if my wife allowed…

    Instead stuck with a soundbar.

    • +16

I heard something funny the other day, someone asked another guy "Are you happy or are you married?"

      • +10

It’s amazing how many men are “happy” to be in a dictatorship vs a relationship.

        • +10

You heard of the guy who wanted to be in a relationship. I heard she took half.

      • +3

        Briliant.

    • +5

Was that downvote from your wife? :)

    • +6

      Ask for forgiveness not permission.

      • +2

I did this with my home cinema sound system. Cost me big time but it's still here & sounds awesome !

    • +1

Does wife takes your permission when buying expensive handbag bag or fragrance?

No need to answer as we all know it.

  • +1

$200 bucks or 20% more is not "almost as cheap", sorry.

    • +1

You are right my calculation was off. I will change the description.

  • +1

Why not in pair don't understand.

    Good speaker anyway.

  • +1

I feel like those feet would destroy my wooden floors.

    • +3

My understanding is if you have the budget for these speakers, you will be able to afford tombstones to put under them.

      • LOL went looking think that was a term for a speaker footing.

I'm not getting these, my poor hearing means it affects my budget for these things (I had click thinking 600 for the pair). Though ideally I want a left right pair with built in Atmos verticals.

    • +1

You don't need to use the spikes

  • +1

I know you can buy a pair but selling them as a single unit sounds a bit odd. Who would buy one?

    • +1

Center channel perhaps? Or Atmos setup?

      • This is not a centre speaker

        • +2

Yea I was just joking hey, there is no reason. On a serious note, you could totally use it as a centre, just lift your tv up a lot.

        • +2

Instructions unclear. Have a new KEF Q550 sound bar.

    • +2

Probably just bait so you look at their ad because of price vs another ad that has the pair for a much higher price.

  • are they delivered in a white van?

    • +2

Them speakers from the white van at shopping centre carpark is fully sick uleh.

      • I had a friend who bought that rubbish lol. Didn't surprise me one bit.

    • Not their fault you can't read. It clearly says each.

And I believe it's only 2 drivers. Other 2 are resonators.

      Speaker size is irrelevant.

      • -5

See below, couldn't be stuffed replying to your junk individually.

    • Why do people love to throw around 'clickbait' when they don't actually know what it means?

Or is "I can't be bothered to read title/description before clicking a link" what you consider clickbait?

      • -5

Floor standing speakers are sold in PAIRS.

I have never seen them sold individually. It's clickbait because $599 is the headline price, and it's only when you look at the detail that you realise you need to buy TWO of them. Ridiculous.

And it looks bloody pathetic having such a weak speaker with what LOOKS LIKE 4 drivers.

May as well put some neons on it, a cooling fan, and heat sinks.

$2000 rec retail?!?! Gimmie a break.

        • You are aware people can and do purchase floorstanding speakers individually right, e.g. damaged cones. And what are you basing your "weak" statement on? Would you also classify the KEF LSX (recently posted too) or LS50 as weak because it only has one driver?

          • -1

@Charlie-B: This is a refurb or damaged? News to me, link to your source please.

And low quality bait on the KEF lsx.
Only an award winning speaker ;).

I'd buy THEM on sale from $2000! (btw, they ARE a $2000 speaker and don't just claim to be to try and sell them).

        • +5

I agree with you on this one. Floor standing speakers are sold in pairs. Tbh at first I thought the price was for a pair as the image indicates.

        • +2

if you're not into your speakers maybe avoid these threads mate.

          • +2

@harro112: I'm into quality speakers at a competitive price. These are overpriced for what their 'rec retail' is.
If YOU were into speakers you'd know that.

            • +2

@UFO: Do this thread a favour and ignore it.

Your stupid neg was revoked, your posts are ridiculous.

              These aren't overpriced.

              • +1

@scuderiarmani: I can see you're very cut over my negative opinion on these speakers. Are you an owner by chance?

I don't give a crap about uneducated negs. Not in the slightest. Go for gold!

The LSX's you refer to are much better value for money and are highly regarded. These ones at the same price point aren't.

They ARE over priced. They quote a rec retail that NO ONE with a brain would pay when for $2000 there's a hell of a lot better out there.

Oh… and I'm not leaving a thread because of butt hurt. Go take a panadol and understand people are allowed to have differing opinions to you without being told to leave.

                • +3

@UFO: 1, you didn't even know about the drivers.

                  2, you can't read

3, you don't understand click bait

                  4, you bought up neons

5, no one cares about your views, you've demonstrated you know nothing about speakers

6, the LSX speakers are a completely different product for different scenarios.

        • +1

          You sir have no idea.
Any speaker that's half decent from an audio speaker dealer is sold as per speaker. There is a lot of reasons for this . None that I care to share with you though .
Only Harvey Norman and JB hi-fi sell speakers in pairs. And that's cause they flog low end shit off at high end prices to people like yourself with no idea and an uneducated opinions.

Source - I sold mid to very high end home audio for 8 years .

          • @XR6T300: Exactly, true cinema setups have the left, right and centre speakers all the same

  • +5

    I will buy if $599 a pair.

    • +2

      I will buy if $299 for 1.

  • would it be much of an upgrade coming from Deli Concept 8?

    • +1

      If you mean Dali, perhaps.

You need to give these a listen though, you might end up liking your Dalis more.

      • thanks mate, yea typo…lol
        Ic…

    • They’re meant to be great speakers with that clinical Kef sound, but no pastrami on rye.

      • Dont think I like clinical kinda sound…thanks anyway :)

  • +4

I wouldn't really buy audio stuff like this online. What sounds good to one person won't sound good to another - you really need to listen to speakers, headphones etc for yourself before deciding which to buy.

    • +2

Absolutely, would never suggest anyone buys audio (or visual) stuff without hearing/seeing. But there's plenty of places to hear these in person before buying.

Audio is very unique to each. I myself have a liking to all things Kef. Others don't, that's fine.

      • +1

Yeah if you've got a mate who's got a pair that make sense I guess. Going into a hifi shop to listen to some then buying from amazon is a good way to ensure that shop goes out of business though.

        • +4

It helps to have the ability to match prices.

The Kef distributor in Australia was recently in the bad books for screwing Australians, New Zealand was actually getting their products much cheaper which is unusual.

          https://www.channelnews.com.au/exposed-kef-price-goughing-on…

I'm unaware if competition has come in or they've had to change their ways. I think Amazon bypasses them.

So yeah, I fully agree, but Kef actually is a little unique.

        • +8

Audio gear/home theatre equipment is ridiculously expensive in this country. Don't blame people for buying online.

Speakers and home theatre receivers especially. We get fleeced badly and it goes way, way beyond exchange rates and the "aussie tax".

          • @bert-lifts: I just picked up Yamaha HS8 Studio Monitors the other week for $720 delivered for a pair at standard pricing from a local music shop here in Adelaide, but very similar pricing everywhere here.

Had a look at US pricing as I was interested how different country pricing was, same pair was the equivalent of $1145 AUD (and that was pickup cost without postage) everywhere major in the US.

We don't always get the worst pricing.

          • +1

            @bert-lifts: tell me about it.

I was trying to put together a reasonable HT set up, costs well over 2x of a quality-equivalent you could get in the US, after conversion.

so (profanity) it, waiting for the Q90R soundbar to go on sale again, I'll keep hifi to my desk.

unsolicited protip: check out Voll's S8 subwoofers, $250 each (get 2), a far cry from the ~$1000 starting price of other subs in oz.

          • @bert-lifts: Nothing wrong with buying online if people choose to do that.

Just have a problem with people who try something out in an offline shop, get advice etc (particularly if it's a small specialist type shop) and then buy online. Yes the specialist shop is more expensive but that's because you're paying for the ability to try products out, get advice from a real person etc. Doing that then buying it online instead is just freeloading.

    • Only problem is, most people will have a different listening enviroment at home compared to what they hear at the store. At least it gives you a reasonable idea as to how the speakers sound compared to others. + 1 to the comments about everyones hearing is different,

      • +1

Speakers will sound very different by placement in same room, never mind completely different room.

  • Are the speakers made in the UK or China

  • +1
  • This or my marriage? Ughhh tough choice!

    • +1

If you play sounds loud enough you won't hear the wife nagging.

  • Set a low crossover and you won’t miss a sub with these big bad boys. Obviously without a dedicated sub (or 2) you won’t have a complete HT experience, but that’s the beauty of it that you can build up your HT step by step waiting for good deals on equipment you want in your setup. These would go really well with the Q350 posted earlier on OZB if you got those

    • Probably better to pair with the Q150, but either way, still good options.

    • Seriously? It only lists frequency response down to 60hz or so, and that's likely -3db. Nowhere can I find a frequency response graph.
