No google store pre-installed is hardly sold

    • +1

I got success before on a last-year Huawei phone, just by Droid Hardware Info to see your chip arch and Android System Version and some other, and search appropriate version of the Four Components-Google Service Framework, Google Mobile Service(may called Google Play Service), Google Play Store and Google Account on that site and move them to the Huawei phone for installation. Step by step, all done. Well it's abit bothering, though. I don't think Google or the U.S government will ban phones accurately without power of Intelligence:P

      • +13

Majority users are looking for an easy use device

The phone is expected to be “ ready to use” when it is out of the box.

        • +4

Didn't mean to provide info for Ready-to-user consumers. forget it

          • +8

@BlkForest: If you spend $1300 on a phone there is a legitimate expectation that it works out of the box.

      • +3

So you expect people to spend $1300 and do some non-legitimate things to make the phone working?
        Huawei nuts are crazy

        • Oh, I'm not a nut for Huawei, I love both my iPhone and Huawei Phone as the experience goes much different, and love to geek complicated.
And, IMO, it's not non-legitimate thing to install published apk/apps myself, any more than Google simply banned a company using its services. I know almost all of you guys upvote Google for its slogan 'Don't be evil'. Well, hereby on this ridiculous ban I want to say, 'Don't follow Mr President'. Anyway, hope they end the trade war soon.

Came here for the no google comments

  • +10

Waiting for “can’t install android app” comments…

    • +7

      I do like Google apps…

  • +26

Be warned, Google is restricting apps to certified devices— so even sideloading the Play store will not necessarily get you access to Google apps.

  • +1

I have no idea why Huawei phone deals get heat. It's such a shame as I would buy this phone right now if it had Android. But it's useless.

    • +2

It has Android, just no google apps and GMS. BTW, at least it has Here map on app gellary now.

      • +4

        Resale value is also abysmal

  • +5

Man if huawei could still have proper android id definitely buy. Mate 20 pro has been a pleasure. Still going strong but I don't mind an upgrade.

  • +4

Last year was 200 cash back for p30 pro with Google services working. You would think Huawei would be increasing the cashback not reducing it in this case

  • With this price of $1260, it would definitely beat the P30 Pro right now.as it is still in the proximity of $1200, let alone Mate 30 Pro. Asia is selling this right now straight for under $1200.

  • Btw, it says "Purchase a Huawei P30 Pro, P40 or P40 Pro between 30/04/2020 - 13/05/2020 from JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Mobileciti, Point Tech, The Good Guys or the Huawei Experience Store Chatswood."

Didnt say anything about getting from this eBay seller. Would they still honour it?!

    • +1

      This seller is mobileciti

      • Oh thanks for letting me know. Didnt know when the seller's name is allphones_online. Awesome!

  • +7

Its the phone you want to love. I'd upgrade from my P30 Pro in a heart beat. Lack of GMS prevents me though. Google Pay is one thing in particular I coulnd't part with. Huawei were talking about Huawei Pay but who knows what happened with that. All the cool stuff Huawei make doesn't seem to make it to our shores either. My Huawei GT2 watch is a good example, I need to trick it into thinking I'm in China to get the fully featured bag of tricks.

I want to love it, but until Trump & China make up or Trump is voted out…

  • -2

    No android not worth it.!

    • +1

It is android of course .. it is not harmony OS

  • 5G?

  • Sad, this would be an instant buy if it has GMS, amazing hardware.

    • Agree, they been releasing some solid hardware with lots of convenient (older) features all in one device (IR blaster, Dual speakers etc.) , during the whole western shoot out htough

  • -1

You guys can wait for Oppo find x2 if you don't mind coloros and a bit of extra mass.

Plus I'm so happy that the comment section is not filled with hate comments due to the current conflict.

    • You mean X2 or the X2 Pro?

      • Yeah I meant x2 pro, sorry.

    • +1

Plus the Motorola Edge Plus will also match this phone as far as I can see.

      • +1

I don't see that happening with camera quality nor display on the Motorola.

  • +2

    Hi. My post on whirlpool.

I've managed to install GMS with everything working so far. Hopefully it won't be patched.

Gplay, maps, cba, Netflix sd etc etc

I'm annoyed I won't get $100 cash back as bought last Thurs.

    • +1

Please expand and provide the link to whirlpool because it's contrary to every other post and website article that I've seen.

      • +4

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9xk5ypy3?p=7

Ugliest part is the selfie front cam, as it is so out of place and distracting.

Even on the video guide they said Gpay and other things won't work. It's. Working on my phone.

        • Thanks. I didn't realise that there was a way. It seems tricky but doable. Anyone else here done it?

        • I'm on there too, thanks for your post about your experience with it!

        • Ugliest part is the selfie front cam, as it is so out of place and distracting.

I really miss the days of centred cams..

  • +7

check out the comment in the previous post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/531606

In conclusion, if you need googe apps, banking apps, Netflix etc. This is not for you.

    • +1

I've got it working and am using it right now. I've purchased a few apps using Gpay too.

      • +2

        Google One refuses to login.

      • +1

100% correct. Gpay contactless Failed. Complains phone is rooted and cannot be used for nfc contactless.

That's a shame.. So people needing that.. Huawei p40 pro ain't the go!!

  • It seems Allphones is not part of the promotion?

    • It is as i was told earlier. Allphones is actually Mobileciti

      • But the receipt will say Allphones even it owns by Mobiciti.

  • +1

Is it possible for these phones to also have Huawei backdoor access?

    • +4

Bloomberg also claimed How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate U.S. Companies and got smashed by Apple and Amazon

U.S medias(including our media controlled by Murdoch) are only good at story telling and they will report anything needed to serve their political agenda.

      • +4

will report anything needed to serve their political agenda

Is that why China censors information and is selective in what they feed their citizens and what they share with the world?

Can we trust what the Chinese Communist Party says?

I mean… Look at what happened to the world…

Even in its own country, the CCP is heightening it's surveillance capacity.

        • +4

well, can u trust American politics? they made the whole world believe the US dollar is worth something and millions of people bust their ass every day for mankind's biggest scam. don't get me started on the federal reserve, global warming, vaccinations, CIA, FBI, 9/11, agenda 21 & agenda 30.

          • +1

@linkii: Very funny. Here's the "conflict of interest" at the end of the article: "Xenophon Davis which acts for Huawei Australia."

            Xenophon Davis wrote the article…

Another article, written by people who do not work for Huawei: Huawei hits back at Malcom Turnbull's comments on 5G.

        • +2

What happend to the world is very simple, U.S f88k up and their government and their media are playing the blaming game.

Majority of our Covid-19 cases are from the U.S and Europe(source from our Department of Health), in your logic, should we trust U.S or European government?

It is not too hard to find news/video about the pendamic time line. If you still choose to believe whatever the media says, good luck.

          • +6

            @ylbeethoven:

Majority of our Covid-19 cases are from the U.S and Europe

            Yes. China caused it.

They even silenced the doctor who raised initial concerns.

I trust the covid-19 numbers that the US/Euro governments are reporting. The world's data all moves in a similar direction, except for China whose numbers appear to be arbitrary.

The pandemic timeline can be found here or from the WHO itself.

The WHO has been acting as a mouthpiece for the CCP, which lied about human-to-human transmission.

            • @[Deactivated]: So US intelligence officials they are dumb ass? Wait, I think they already warned #trumpvirus in Jan?

And our five eyes spying countries are dumb ass too

The Chinese media the New York Times reported that “the White House began tightening controls for all coronavirus messaging from health officials on February 27 after Vice President Mike Pence led the nation's epidemic prevention and control efforts.” — it is just nonsense because only democracy country can use “tightening controls” such objective words, and US gov just leaves millions N95 in somewhere not on their stock takings

              • @fqyyy:

                US…they are dumb ass?

Yes. Any country that trusted China's words were "dumb ass".

The countries that did not follow China's lies did better, such as Taiwan.

only democracy country can use “tightening controls” such objective words

Yes, Taiwan did great using democracy.

Note: I'm glad Trump isn't our leader; I think he acted too slow! And he says stupid things as well. I'm also glad Xi Jinping isn't our leader; Xi's a paranoid dictator. And he doesn't care about the Chinese people. CCP =/= everyday Chinese people. The CCP only cares about having power over innocent Chinese people.

Do you want a surveillance camera installed inside your Australian home? Of course not! You enjoy your liberty and freedom.

          • +3

@ylbeethoven: Ok mate. China is Saint and West is Satan. CCP govt, who tried to hide the facts about the extent of virus spread and fact that it spread human to human are all in fact angels. Western govts elected in open transparent process called elections are in fact all devils.

          • +1

            @ylbeethoven:

Majority of our Covid-19 cases are from the U.S and Europe(source from our Department of Health(health.gov.au)), in your logic, should we trust U.S or European government?

You have no logic behind conflating infection sources and trusting the US and EU governments. If anything, you just highlighted that we shouldn't trust anything the CCP scum have said because they deliberately hid the fact that there was an outbreak to begin with. Ozama Bean Bargain even gave you an example of the first doctor to be silenced. CCP are 100% to blame.

US & EU do not hide covid-19 statistics anywhere like the CCP scum.

        • +6

Spot on. Cherish your freedom of speech because in China it can put you behind bars, even if you're a doctor (Dr Li Wenliang) warning people of a novel coronavirus. They will charge for spreading rumours and reprimand you. If any country asks for independent investigation about the source of the virus, they would be threatened with dire consequences.

          • @dealhunter52: I surprised that people do not know the update about that doctor. Guess people talk and act on the news that often is half of the story and write in a way people want. Everyone is an expert when it already happened and look back.
Is there any so called "independent" investigation about Iraq war?

            • @ozbarbar: Well enlighten me please. Because as far as I know CCP censors anything that is contrary to its position. Is there any transparency? Is media or judiciary independent or state controlled in China?

              • @dealhunter52: https://www.chinadailyhk.com/article/124944

According to the article, CCP did recognise they wrongly blame the doc and have rectified that. Yes, people could say why don't they listen. It's the same as why other country did not close their border earlier say on the 30 Dec? Coz, people need solid evidence. Imagine you talking to your boss said you going to work from home on the 30 Dec (or early Jan).

Censorship is not the only way to fiddling with the facts. There is another term call information twisting. Examples?

That's all I'm going to say. Happy oz bargain.

                • @ozbarbar: Article you linked is from HK. Do you happen to question why CCP didn't publish such articles in China? No, that would loosen their grip on power.

If they're so transparent why are civilian journalist's disappearing in Wuhan? Can you discuss Tibet or Uighurs or Democracy on Weibo without being arrested or receiving a warning from authorities?

Taiwan warned WHO much earlier about human to human spread of coronavirus but they disregarded the advise under Chinese pressure.
                  https://www.foxnews.com/world/taiwan-releases-december-email…

Mate, I would much rather bang head against a wall than try to put some sense in you. You can keep living in the cockoo land.

                  • @dealhunter52: China did publish articles in Chinese, but you & majority of Western countries does not read Chinese so it was never relevant. If you've learned & good on Chinese like I do (and I'm not from China), I can direct you to heaps of Chinese articles about these stories.

You guys are always reading one side of the story: that's what Murdoch and most of the Western medias want you to read anyway.

                    • @davidl2: Hats off to you for replying to more that a month old post.

China did publish articles in Chinese, but you & majority of Western countries does not read Chinese so it was never relevant. If you've learned & good on Chinese like I do (and I'm not from China), I can direct you to heaps of Chinese articles about these stories.

Tell this to citizen journalists, who disappeared in Wuhan this year or nearly 300 human rights activists and lawyers, who disappeared since the govt crackdown on free speech in 2015 '709 crackdown'.

                      https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-34592336

                      • @dealhunter52: LOL! Hats off to you bringing up an 2015 article, with everything in history combined to attack on China! I don't deny or agree on everything in that article, but everything listed in there do happens around the world(especially in the US). Just like what most people worried here: spying on Chinese made phone, you really think that harassment/persecution/discrimination only happens in China? Look at today's story, George Floyd, and think of what American did to Cuba, Mexico border etc. Also given Chinese population at 1.4 Billion, their numbers always look larger when the so called "western(Murdoch) medias/influencer" exploit it.

Honestly, all these has nothing to do with me anyway! I was doing research with P40Pro and I see attacks on every bargain posted related to Huawei, makes me wonder why, so I figured that not everyone reads both side of the story, some are keyboard warrior just up for a fight…I won't bother!

I better stop here as this is a place for Ozbargain, not Ozhatreds nor Ozpolitics!

                        • @davidl2: Tell me one Western country prosecuting human rights activists and lawyers on a mass scale or putting a million of its citizens in concentration camps and I'll show you a unicorn.

    • +2

Who cares?? US government is also tracking your information, australian gov also gets access to encrypted communications if they want, no one gives a damn to these 'PRISM'shit. In fact, don't trust any government, and don't get brainwashed by either the communism or western media.

Huawei is basically owned by CCP. invest your money wisely.

    • China is literally owned by CCP. Should Australia stop importing goods from China?

    • +2

I think Japan is the only wise country rethinking how we are too reliant on CCP. a wake up call over the fallout of this virus…. A voice to reclaim businesses/manufacturing back to their country.

Problem with Australia… We are too dumb… A sellout… We are consumers rather than producers.. Our pride is trying to make ourselves richer or just get by..our concern is more $$$…..unions to fght for our rights for higher pay every year or so.

We have all the earthly resources and vast undeveloped land.. Even our skills of innovation for somebody else to steal. We just don't have the brains or balls to sacrifice $$$$ over building a great nation… It's an attitude of… Ahh too hard and too expensive to have it done here….. Lazy asses easier to sell our assets and resources so to temporarily make our selfish lives richer for our own lifetime other than for the future. We are a shortsighted nation.

I think China is a selfish "great" nation (don't care for anybody else but for the ccp) that has invested heavily to be in a position they are at… Steal the world (brains, assets, etc) so everybody is at their finger tips…

      Now we are all disabled.

Hopefully something comes out of this pandemic created/originated in China!!!! Nations to rethink on our reliance..

    • Not only Huawei, rethink about DJI, OnePlus, XiaoMi, Vivo, Oppo, Lenovo/thinkpad, all of them are indirectly owned by the CCP.
Investigate everything in your house, be it underwear or suitcase, throw all Made in China is the only way to go for all Aussie!!

      • i was gonna buy a xiaomi Mi 10 phone got all the specs i need except IP68…

  • +3

Nope. If I wanted to return to the pain of no/low quality apps I'd just turn on my Nokia 1020. Constant cat and mouse game of trying to side load GMS and even after that having constant crashes on apps like youtube. Why on Earth would anyone want that for 1400?

People that say you can side-load, do they even know what they are talking about? Google what actually happens.

    • +4

At this stage or should I say while it works nicely, it's a gamble I took due to the phone cam I wanted it for. And bite the bullet for everyone else wanting to see the what works..

So far I've had no issues of the constant crashes you are talking about on any apps.

I'm not a hard core apps or mobile gamer/user. I have a handful of apps I need for work and they work fine for my requirement.

I have NOT enabled/logged into or use the Huawei cloud/appstore as I'm a little weary of storing info on their servers…

      • +1

The same was said with the Mate 30, works great until it doesn't. Personally I cannot imagine for a second that the camera on this is worth the constant worry of the base functionality being on a constant Flux.

But if it works for you that's great. I'm not happy with what's been done to Huawei even though no doubt they are a shady company using every bit of data they can get but they were the only company giving Samsung a run for their money.

Trump has no idea how much damage he has done, for sure the Chinese Oems are banding together to create an entire Ecosystem to rival Android. I just don't want to lose One Plus and Xiaomi.

  • anything posted with Huawei in the title on this site is routinely targeted by the anti- chinese America first posters, who are clearly working towards finishing off our already crippled economy.

much like our pm who has worked tirelessly to destroy Oz via ignoring climate change, destroying our ability to combat it, and endlessly promoting foreign owned mining interests, they similarly promote fake news to destroy Australia and everything living here.

The future here now only holds less employment, lower wages, and less health care and education. Working with china gave Australia independence and a future. Now as a result of fake news, America First propaganda, and a puppet government the average Australian has no real hope of a prosperous independent future.

    • +1

It's a phone without Google services, not the end of Aussiekind.

      • no its a Huawei phone automatically attracting anti-chinese posters broadcasting fake news statements deliberately.

oz is a dying country, being made totally dependent on a failed state - the USA - spreading death and disease around the world.

Unless we U- turn rapidly oz is finished - I reckon it is already is because not enough aussies are doing anything to save their country.

        • LOL.

Our country is screwed due to our biggest reliance on China… We are a freaken sellout.. ffs our countries resources and assets are being sold to Who??????

That's what's bringing down our country. And it's happening everywhere around the world. Countries are at ransom cos China baits them with $$$ in their pockets in exchange for infrastructure with a caveat they will own vast lands if they cannot repay them.. Is that fake news?? Poor pacific islands. Poor Africa.

AU has little strength left cos we are too self centered on earning more $$ individually!!! We have little infrastructure, manufacturing, assets… All our skilled think tanks going overseas. We are digging ourself a deeper grave selling ourselves out..for what??? temporary $gain.. It's all about $$$ in our pockets… China prints the hell out of money to purchase assets around the world…

Now our biggest trading partner threatening the only petty chip that are helping strengthen our economy lol beef, students education lol, tourists lol.. are being held against us coz what???? We hurt their feelings????

Wake need to wakeup to ourselves.. Hopefully the word will wake up too and not heavily rely everything on one country that has all intention for global takeover dominance… If that's not anything to go by everything made in China.

          • @id: you are just repeating yank propaganda - when did scommo go to china - no coalition visits since 2016 to our biggest trading partner.

china is not trying to take over the world -that's the USA - it's already taken australia over as the latest amazon contract makes plain.

enjoy falling wages, and a lower standard of living as a result of our America first dumbass policies. That's what you want and that's what you will get.

        • We're "failing" because we're too dependent on China. The whole world is "failing" (shrinking economies) because of China. The CCP caused all this destruction on the world and keep threatening us when they can't bully us.

Australia should distance itself and be more independent. We'll be fine. I'm happy to work through a shrinking economy if it means we can move away from the grips of the CCP.
