EUFY 2c Wireless 1080p Security Camera System Twin $320, 3 Camera $440, 4 Camera $560 @ Supercheap Auto

1190
FRENZY20

I missed out on the previous deal for the twin camera pack for $280, so have been keeping an eye out for something similar.

While this 20% off sale brings the twin pack to $320, as you go to the 3 ($440) and then 4 pack ($560) the per camera price slides down to ~$140/camera. Free shipping, too. Perfect if you need a number of cameras. Hope that helps some other OzBargainers looking for a similar solution! Cheaper than Arlo and other similar solutions!

How do these compare to Arlo Pro 2?

    • +6

These have better battery life, better picture, and don't require a paid subscription.

      • +2

This is equally concerning to me though, anyone that owns this system are you using JUST the local storage or also paying for cloud backup. The subsequent risk of getting the unit nicked and that'd be the end of the footage seems to negate the benefit of having these things hooked to the internet at all. Optional cloud storage offered by EUFY is equally expensive to the other premium options out there but out of curiosity is there a way to redirect something like this to a google cloud backup or any free/cheaper option?

        • Good question.

        • +17

Just to clarify, the local storage is not in the camera itself. It is in the Homebase unit, which is typically locked inside somewhere safe. The cameras also have movement detection, and can sound a very LOUD siren if moved, both on the camera and the Homebase.
I have the footage also going straight to my NAS, which provides another option for remote viewing.

          • @h00tz: Well that's something then, but this isn't the case when it comes to the doorbell and besides someone breaking in isn't likely to leave behind the homebase intact regardless.

Edit: when you say you "also going straight to my NAS" how exactly are you doing that? Could the same method be used to mirror to cloud storage?

            • +1

@sk3iron: Eufy allows you to stream camera video to NAS via RSTP. However, there's a limit of only 2 cameras that can stream to NAS (this sucks). Cloud subscription costs $100 annually for 10 cameras with rolling of 30 days of video history. There are other monthly and single camera cloud plans as well.

              • +1

                @47: RTSP*

              • +3

@47: You can buy camera surveillance license packs for Synology, if you really need the video streams consolidated.
It is a bummer they restrict to 2 per NAS, you would think the more expensive models would have at least 4 licenses

                • @boonhowe: Didn't know about that, thank you. So you know how much did that cost??

  • +4

I got the deal from super cheap last time…
Great cameras and already pushed away two junkies and saved me a pair of shoes I kept on the patio :)
The alarm siren very loud. Motion detection is not as good as advertised, or probably sensitivity setting needs tweeks
Happy with these cameras overall and waiting to get to more at the $140 price mark once they pop.

    • +1

How long do your batteries last before recharging?

      • +2

They advertised up to 6 month, in reality they will last 3-4 months. The more movement, the more features enabled, the more sensitivity settings, the less the battery will last.
I suppose 6 months under no movement at all 😅

        • +3

3 months for street facing (quiet dead end street)
4 months for backyard (usual birds , cats and possum passing by)

          • +1

@bnh: I got these from the last SCA deal and have been extremely happy. I set them up straight out of the box on a very busy front street and the battery lasted close to 2 months. My backyard camera is still around 40% left. I have set it to detect human motion only and it filters out a lot of unwanted footage.
I want to get the 4 camera one to add to my existing 2 cameras but the big boss doesn’t want to approve the budget 🙁

            • @Dealking: Get an exemption 😈 or ask for forgiveness after 😜

            • +2

@Dealking: It is easier to ask for forgiveness later than to miss a tempting deal. Telling this from experience.

              • +2

@ashftc: Put on some home invasion news reports on YouTube to "coincidentally" play when she walks into the room

            • @Dealking: Someone below mentioned that local storage is only 16gb. Is there a way to add more storage, like plug in a USB hard drive or set it up to back up the footage somewhere on the network before overwriting?

              • +1

@Travis J: @Travis There is a USB at the bottom, but I believe that is only used for charging the cameras at the moment. I read somewhere that there is plans to upgrade the firmware in the future to support adding extra storage via USB, but I dont think thats available at the moment.
Having said that, I have had the system for about 2 months now and my cameras combined together have only recorded upto 4 GB. Ofcourse, it only records motion when humans are detected, which is still a lot in the front of my house, but very little in the backyard.
To put some more perspective, here are the exact stats for video storage from my homebase:

                Clips: 4.18 GB
                Total: 14.79 GB
                Available: 10.61 GB

                Protected for 60 days
                1687 Motions recorded.

Initially I was also skeptical about having just 16 GB when I see all the other security systems having storage in TB's. But I guess this is working alright so far, since it is not on continuous recording mode. At this rate, I expect to be able to store footages for upto 6 months, which should be good enough.

                Hope this helps.

                • @Dealking: Can you easily view the recorded footage from the Eufy app and maybe save those files to your phone's storage? I use Arlo which has "local usb storage" but to view it, I'd have to unplug the usb hard drive then plug it into my laptop and click on individual files.

                  • +1

@Travis J: I was able to view the first video from one of my cameras in my mobile app, without requiring to download. There are options to download or share the videos in the app.

    • Hey mate do these do sound detection for recording?

      • +2

Not really, only motion detection. However they record audio and quality of audio is great.

      • I think this was answered below, but yes, they record audio when a detection is made. You also get a notification on your phone, and if necessary, can use the camera to speak to whomever is at your house! For example, we had a friend looking after our cat, and I was able to say hello and have a conversation when they came around :) Not what it was meant for, but it showed that it worked well enough.

    • How loud is the siren in db? Reolink Argus 2 sucks in that department!

    • I suspect you put the main/alarm unit close to the main entry thus they can hear it?

      • +1

The camera has built in Alarm, and they are loud enough.

  • Great price, but seems no integration with Home Assistant?

    • Under features it says "Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant" - if that helps?

      • +1

Home assistant isn't the same as Google assistant

        • +2

Not sure why you got negged, your comment was correct.

    • i have these cameras and home assistant and there is an integration either through homekit or you can use rtsp

    • HA works to show the last captured frame on the camera. You can get it to play as well but it is rather buggy.

  • Any tired eufy doorbells ? Planning to upgrade

    • Check the Anker site. 20% makes the doorbells about $280

      • Price match at OW makes it more cheaper…

        • unfort OW doesn't stock the wireless at the mo

      • As far as I can tell Anker only ships to US

  • Excellent deal, thanks. Don't forget to combine with gift cards.

    • Hi, which gift cards were you referring to? Trying to find some

      • SCA gift cards - which you can often buy discounted. Can someone confirm you can pay using gift cards (in part or full?)

  • Looking at the pics, looks like this is not the latest model, eufycam 2?

    • +1

Its 2c model. Dont think Australia getting eufy 2?

    • +3

Eufycam 2 isn't out in Australia. The 2c is the latest model available here.

      • Fair enough, been waiting for the latest model, obviously this is not the one

        • I heard last year we were supposed to get the newer 2 version early 2020. Now whether covid stopped that I'm not sure. I think they just don't care about our market. Might be time to look at importing.i also want them

      • Is it worth getting 2c? the 2 looks better in all aspects

        • The 2 is a lot more expensive, other than that crazy deal with the Echo last year.

    • Also Eufy have said on forums that their 'pro' 2k versions of the 2 and 2c will be out in a couple of months…. see if they come to Aus or not tho

      • Any link? Interested to find some reading on this

  • Eufy doorbell looks mighty tempting

    • is it any good?

      • looks to be onpar with google nest hello. would prefer the nest hello but its not out in australia yet.

  • This or wired ones like dahua? I guess this is a great choice among wireless cameras considering local storage and image quality.

    • Considering these or any wifi camera can be disabled by an intruder with a $5 jamming device, I'd say wired. At the least get a wifi camera that also records to an internal SD card.

      • Thank you. Any specific brand you would suggest based on your experience? I was thinking dahua even though it is bit expensive. Seems like swann has reliability issues based on forum discussions.

        • I ended up getting Reolink. pretty happy so far

  • Also, what’s the difference between these and the long skinny ones? I get a little confused at the naming conventions.

    • +2

I think those ones have 1 year of battery. But the home base included in that package seems to be old generation. These ones have the gen 2 homebase. It was mentioned in one of the discussions in Reddit that the newer homebases can talk to each other and extend the range. More like a mesh system.

    • +7

This comparison might be useful for you.

  • So all the cameras in this deal are the same??

Just additional cameras in the pack?

    • yep, so just work out how many you need and buy - obviously slightly cheaper per camera the more you buy.

  • does motion sensor work at night which turns on the light ?

    • Not sure if it can turn on the light but it has an infrared camera.

    • +1

Yes light turns on at night, or you change setting to record in IR with no light. I bought the 2 pack last sale, happy with it, spoken to visitors-couriers through the app when not at home. Can turn alarm on the camera live via the app and it is loud.

      • What’s your opinion that this 1080p camera is not good enough to see faces unless they are close up?

        • Obviously the closer the better, but you can zoom in and get a good view from say 10 meters during daylight, night time need to be within a few meters for a good shot. All depends on angles/light etc, mine are about 7 foot off the ground and work well.

        • IR night vision a bit rubbish for faces - much better if another lightsource is also on/triggered and use the spotlight option instead.

    Questions:

    1. The base unit has 16gb storage. I assume it auto rewrites when full?
    2. Does the base unit need to connect to wifi to work? Or can you still view videos offline some how?
    3. Base unit needs to be hidden somewhere next to PowerPoint…??
  • Can someone tell me how long the batteries take to charge? Thanks

    • +2

      About 4 hours

  • +4

As someone who runs a decent security system I can tell you 1080p is not good enough.

You want about the equivalent to 4k in cameras. Otherwise unless it's at your front door and they walk right up to it you have no chance of seeing who they are.

Spend a little and see you robbed

Spend a lot and see who robbed you

    • What security cam would you recommend?

    • I have an old coax wired 720p. What would you upgrade to in 4k?
I wanted to mix the outside cams with some indoor cams, but you can't mix wired+wifi

      • +1

Pretty sure you can mix(at least some of) the Reolink cams

        • Wow, another brand! THanks I"ll look it up.

    • +1

      Agreed with this.

I had the Arlo Pro 2 and you could never see the person's face. Now I have the Pro 3 2K and it's heaps better.

  • +3

Just be aware that the homebase that comes with this doesnt have a battery so if someone turns your power off it makes the system useless whereas the Eufycam 1 homebase has a battery. I'm not sure why they removed it in the second gen homebases.

    • +1

Very relevant if your switchboard is outside

      • +1

You should have a VESI padlock on your meter box if you're worried about the power being switched off and a UPS on the base station in case of outages.

        • With this padlock, I sometimes wonder how can we sure only authorised people access to our electricity box? Similar to TSA padlock in a luggage

          • -1

@BigLeviathan: First of all, all you need is a ballpoint pen for your luggage.

Only trusted organisations have VESI keys or can unlock them. I suppose you can't stop "someone" if they had a master etc.. or an angle grinder but it's a sure deterrent.

            • @tap: Surely it takes 1 person to copy the key, then it's out. Like TSA lock #2, you can open 90% of luggage in the world.

              • @furyou: Like I said.. all you need to get into someone's luggage is a ballpoint pen. No need for a TSA master key.

As for the VESI.. I'm not sure a 3D printed version would work. They're a little more complex than a simple TSA key… but yes the idea that someone could have a master or access to a key is possible.

"Victorian Power Industry Locks® (VPIL) master keys are controlled by the VESI Group companies and only available to them."

          • @BigLeviathan: TSA matter keys got leaked by a news article and now anyone with access to a 3D printer can create a set

            https://lock-picking.wonderhowto.com/how-to/is-why-your-tsa-…

            • +1

@Agret: I don't know how any TSA official ever thought they would be safe. I mean every single airport needs to have at least 1 copy of each key. What's the point?

              • @furyou: I guess it deters thieves with zero guile eg kids. Oh wait, they're the ones who are probably printing the 3D copies…

  • +1

Bought This one early morning today and combined with 10% off YOUI Giftcards .. $530 for 4 Cam system. Also bought 3 Sensors for $117 from JB Hi-Fi the other day. waiting for the delivery …

    • I can only access 8% gift cards via Suncorp so if I purchase a $560 gift card - that means I’m paying $515.20 for the 4 cameras.. I’m assuming your final cost would be lower than $530 with the 10% discount?

Also interested in reviews about the door sensor but can’t find any videos online. I wonder how many sensors does one homebase support?

      • You can use max of 3 coupons per purchase. the gift cards were $100 each so i saved $30 there :(

Home base 2 supports 16 camera and 34 sensors as per a specification i found.

        • Gotcha, I was able to source a single gift card from Suncorp overnight so I hope it works on the purchase!

  • -2

i got excited i thought i was selling for 2 cents

  • I’ve recently started looking at Arlo Pro 2 but haven’t heard of this brand before. With 20% off and another 8% off via gift card, it comes down to $515.20 for four cameras.

Based on the good reviews here, I’m very tempted to pull the trigger without researching much into it, hopefully it all works out!!

  • Was going to pull the trigger then found out this

    • Thanks, I wouldn't be buying this based on this information.
