Cobram Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil 3L $30 (Was $37) @ Woolworths

1000

Been waiting for the 750ml to go half price again, unfortunately it hasn't since December last year, however this is the same price per L ($10/L), if you don't mind the larger size.

Cobram Estate is top rated on the Choice table with 85%, just above Red Island which is 79% but slightly cheaper at $8/L vs $10/L and in a smaller bottle which some might prefer going with.

I remember days when this used to be had for $24 on special not long ago (or for half price on the bottles). Good olive oil when it's on sale.

      or $18 before that!

      • I used to wait until $26 to buy. No longer. Aldi is pretty close.

  • yeah, best I've seen lately is $29 for the 3 litre !

  • Just check if it is harvest 19 or 20

Cobram Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil 3L $30

You can get a better 4L EVOO from your local continental deli around that price or cheaper.

    • How do you know it is better? Most of the European brands didn't get as high a rating in the Choice comparison…

How do you know it is better?

I buy them, and I've tried Cobram.

        • +1

I'm sure you haven't bought from my local continental deli though…

@team teri: Probably not. Haven't been to Perth for years…

      • Most of the European brands didn't get as high a rating in the Choice comparison…

        They didn't try many…

Try an EVOO from Crete next time you're at a local continental deli.

    • Any specific recommendations for better brands to look for in the price range you mentioned?

    • Unfortunately Choice did review continental deli EVOO, but Cobram came up tops in 2017

      • I see 2 on that list…

Our local deli stocks at least a dozen and most are probably much better than those.

Also, I only buy tins of olive oil so they don't get damaged by storage in light.

          hahahaha… OK, I'll call you out….

On the side it mentions best consumed within 4 weeks of opening, just like the bottles. Does anyone actually go through 3L of olive oil in a month?

    • +14

depends on how often i hold oil wrestling nights with the girls

      so, no.

    • +1

We go through a 4L one every 3-4 months.

Just keep it sealed and away from any light and it will be fine…

      • +3

        Yep. Store it like wine.

No light, no changes in temperature (so near or under the stove is not good, same with garage as bigger fluctuations in temp).

Bottom of the pantry in a dark corner… cool and dark, away from any light.

And avoid using clear glass dispensers. They may look nice, but a clear glass container is NOT ideal when trying to block light. Think wine bottle… dark/tinted.
Glass/ceramic is the perfect medium to store it for preserving flavour, but not clear glass.

It'll stay fresh for months with no dramas.

          Yep. Store it like wine.

Wine does not keep long once opened around here.

This stuff is good - unlike a lot of that Spanish crap that we get dumped in Australia

    • It's a shame because the olive oil in Spain is so damn good, it's got a bright green colour it's so fresh.

That said Cobram is pretty good and happy to support Aussie produce.

  • PRice for OZ olive oil is cheap, but good quality and support local jobs. Aldi has Extra virgin oil from OZ too. Quite good.

  • How is La Espalano extra virgin oil 3.8l for $20?

    • Pretty poor

  • Why you love cobram
