How is it smart when it is not Google assistant compatible?

    • Yes, you are right… Cut and paste error. Title updated.

I'm going to give this a miss. Reports of the lid not closing and the glass cracking in an old deal.

  • I bought one of these @ $35 in Feb 2018 but it arrived with a faulty micro-controller, they sent me a new one and I still use it today, it just works and works great.

    • Cool, excellent! Kogan has been pretty good to us so far, I started shopping with them after I got their credit card deal with the $500 credit deal. Hopefully this one turns out alright.

Bought one of these just before Xmas.

Look does the job. I love I can tell google to boil me the kettle - the missus hates it but shes a woman she's never happy.

The lid is a pain in the arse. I find one firm press opens it. But apparently I'm magic and the missus says my fingers do special things because no one else can open the blood thing.

Other bonus - I set up a Google routine thing. When I'm 5 mins out from home after a long shift I tell google I'm nearly home and I get in and my lights are set nicely, the diffuser is on and the kettle is boiled. Unless your missus is like mine and leave its empty. Then you just have to call it quits and get a divorce.

    For 39.99 it's a decent deal. I wouldn't be paying 80 for it tho 👌

No google. This is not the wifi version. That is still $80.

    • But apparently I'm magic and the missus says my fingers do special things

  • Damn, I want a new kettle with temp control, but this video immediately turned me off it.. The beeping, way over the top.

Missed out on that $60 Russel Hobbs deal :(

    • The beeping is not that bad when it isn't broken.
2 beeps when you connect it, 1 for a button press.

The coloured lights are a matter of personal taste.

      • What about the constant beeps when it is finished boiling? That video seemed to indicate that is the behaviour.

The lights don't bother me, just the beeping as I can imagine it getting annoying early in the morning (when kettles are often used) and others in the house are sleeping.. Maybe I'm overthinking it..

read the one word in the video description: Faulty

    • I'm with you.

Own a working unit and not a fan of the beeping.

  • Mine one died after 14 months

    • Fwiw Ive had mine since April 2018 and its still going.

    • I did add the 2 more years of warranty for $9… for the heck of it! Hopefully it will last that long, and if not, they can give me another one :D

  • Similar to Calran, bought a couple of these back in early 2018.

The one I use has been going strong for 2 years now with regular use. The lids a little loose but still closes boils fine.

The second one which I bought for my parents broke after about 6 months. But contacted Kogan and got it replaced with very little hassle. As far as i'm aware its still working. Apparently the plastic power button has worn away but otherwise ok. What in the world do my parents do with that kettle 0.o

  • I'm confused - comment above mention that it's hooked up to their Google Assistant, but the product doesn't appear to say anything about it.

I might grab it if it has the assistant.

OK can see new comment saying this isn't the wifi version - thanks legends.

I had one that died after a couple of months. Just a hassle. Got the Kambrook one which cost double but hasn't missed a beat

  • I am on my 3rd replacement of this in the last year and half. To make it worse I had to threaten ACCC last time as they weren't gonna replace my original replacement as the original one ran out of warranty.

  • I had brought one back in July 2018 for $39 and I am still using it today. I only use the basic water boiling function so I can't say how smart the kettle really is. Generally speaking, the quality of the kettle is not that good, the kettle used to automatically stop after the water boils but the circuitry had started to play up so it now doesn't stop after the kettle boils and I have to manually stop it or it will beep forever. However at the 39.99/29.99 price, you get what you had paid for.
As for me, when the kettle becomes really broken and can't boil water anymore, I will not be buying another Kogan kettle to replace it, but personally I think the 2 year lifespan for that price is acceptable, but I would rather spend more money to buy another brand with the hope (dream) that it will last longer.

    • I would rather spend more money to buy another brand with the hope (dream) that it will last longer

It isn't a dream! I have had several kettles last 4+ years, all were pretty cheap.. All I did was avoid the really cheap ones and they seem to last ages. That said, I'd never spend more than $60-80 on a kettle…

  • recommended the Target Bellini one. looks good, works well and the lid makes it easy to fill. worth the 50 reg price.
