nbn 1000/50 for $139.91 a Month (Available at Selected POI's) @ Launtel

2050

Finally it’s here!!!, it’s cheaper than Aussie Broadband deal that was just posted recently! Only for FTTP and HFC but great price!!

Aussie Broadband typical evening speed is 250Mbps I believe but Launtel is 400Mbps

“ We’ve also invested heavily in our nbn network and backhaul capacity to ensure that you experience the fastest speeds possible without peak time slowdowns. You should expect minimum download speeds of 400mbps up to 950mbps. “

    • if your price-sensitive, go to dodo or another cut-price isp with no local call centre and over-saturated CVC links. AussieBB competes on service and speed.

I work in IT from home and need reliable, constant speed. AussieBB gives me that with minimal drop outs, so much so that they are my default recommendation when someone asks me which isp to use

don't care about $10/month , that's less than a Maccas meal a month, love the consistency of ABB speeds and customer service

      • -1

Exactly. Consistency is key. Ms sween64 has been WFH for the past 10 weeks and she hasn’t complained about the internet once.

    • As someone mentioned earlier, ABB is actually cheaper for users who do not want a CG-NAT

      • That is about to change…

        • Not sure why you got negative for this comment. For helping others out. Strange people.

I’ve been with Launtel for several months now. They are an incredible and for me flawless ISP. Pausing internet when I’m not home, (almost) instant speed / plan changes. Proper Aussie support from really knowledgeable people at an affordable price. Nothing beats it.

    • +3

I concur. I was with ABB before and they were pretty good, but since moving over to launtel, I noticed no difference in terms of stability and if anything the speed has been more a lot more consistent than ABB in my case.

Customer service is fully local and truely exceptional. They go above and beyond to try to help you. If there’s any issue and they said they would get back to you the next day, they actually do! I don’t think you have got much to lose if anyone wants to try them out especially if you are on FTTP where you can just activate another port and take up their one week free trial.

Different experience for me. I trialled Launtel but went back to ABB because:

      • My POI has Vocus backhaul with Launtel, and whilst speeds were mostly ok (ABB had slightly higher bandwidth and better latency), I had experienced a couple of outages due to Vocus issues
      • Whilst the daily billing, speed changing and pausing are good features, the speed changing wasn't instant due to Vocus so normally happened overnight
      • They are a smaller company and there is a Facebook group (Launtel Users Group) where the owner and support staff communicate and are transparent, but change management seems to be a bit lacking, eg there was a dropout when an engineer accidentally created a loop trying to resolve an issue.
      • when an engineer accidentally created a loop trying to resolve an issue.

Been happening for years. Tame in comparison to what they usually break.

      • I find AussieBB has Australia’s best network but I just can’t not have the daily change thing now. If Aussie got it. Would be awesome. And calling to cancel? No thanks.

It’s fine for us FTTN plebs. I would buy this in a heart beat. But I’m worried I might suffer a cardiac arrest before I get FTTP.

Available now, no need to wait until Friday.

  • Been on Telstra Cable now for ages.. they wired up the street for NBN but I wasn't available so mine didn't get done.

If I want to switch to this, what's the most cost effective way to do it? Do I sign up/switch to NBN with Telstra and get them to do the line install (and then switch carriers after install) or do I just join any NBN carrier and get connected?

Will other carriers charge me a NBN line install fee? I assume when Telstra contacted me to do it, it was free?

    • Don't sign up with Telstra. Telstra charge $219 outright or free if you stay for 24 months for their router. If you leave early you have to pay the remaining cost.

Sign up to an ISP that has no contract and no joining fee.

      NBN installation is free.

      • Twix Telstra has done no connection fees and no contract for quite a while now, not sure where your getting your information from. You can use a BYO modem if you dont want to use theirs.

        • I'm not talking about Telstra not having connection fees and no contracts.

I'm talking about the Telstra router that they send to most new NBN customers. That's how they get you for leaving early these days.

    • I decided to stay with Telstra till I got switched over. Have always found their service good. I was polite, and explained that I didn't see why I should have to pay more to get what I already have. (They were going to charge extra for their 100/40 speedboost, which I already had).

In the end, they agreed and gave me the modem (actually they ended up sending 2 modems), no contract, and no change in price to my existing plan. I think I'm paying $89 a month with phone line. No contract
(But it's actually a bit slower than cable. I was getting 100-110 down consistently, now around 90, but sometimes as low as 70 in the evenings. But uploads are significantly better)

I'd have a chat with Telstra, and see what they'll offer you. I just think it's easier to do the changeover with your existing provider, then switch once everything is working well.

      • Thanks Tai Gui Le, that's a good idea. I'll see what they offer me before committing and will only do so on a non-contract switch too. I'm currently getting a really good deal on Cable and get Speedboost free so I'll make sure they match it.

@Twix I wasn't sure if the NBN install would be free or not if I left my provider but checked with Launtel today and the guy told me it was. They'll also give a modem free with no contract. Not sure if he's correct though as that's a lot of free modems they're giving out if customers don't stay. Wondering how simple the transition would be if I signed up to NBN and ditched Cable though.. hopefully pro-rata as I'd hate to be paying for 2 services for a month!

        • NBN standard install is free. If ISPs have their own other charges that's up to the ISP.

Ask Telstra about pro rata for your plan.

    1000/50? That's crazy.

Anyone with tech know how can help me out.
On cable at the moment 100/5 with outdated Telstra Netgear modem.

HFC (NBN direct) is available in my area. I'll need NBN install + New modem and ISP plan. Remember reading that there were some new standards DOCSIS 3.1 to be released? Wanted to buy one of those high speed fancy routers like night hawk instead of what ISP will provide.

What's best way of going about this to maximise internet speeds as there's barely anyone to talk to about this information?? Thx.

    • 250/25 Tier might be better for HFC users, but it's depending on your actual connection.

If you’re looking at Gigabit speeds, this thread will help you choose a capable router.

  • +13

The best part is you can turn gigabit speeds on and off on a daily basis. Thats really convenient for people who just download huge games/updates/linux distro's occasionally:

"We are charging $4.60/day for this. In case you are thinking this daily pricing is a gimmick – it is not. We literally do charge by the day and you only have to have your service on for a day. Yes that means you can downgrade to a cheaper speed when you're not downloading CoD or even pause your service if you go on holiday (COVID-19 permitting!). However if you want to compare the monthly price it is about $139/month."

    • are speed changes unlimited & free?

      • Yes have at it. It’s completely free/easy.

  • +6

Signed up just now and speed is very good.
Congratulations! We are now Gigabit fast.

    • -2

Pics or it didn't happen. ;)

  • +3

They really are the best provider in Australia. Maybe the world with this daily speed change thing.

    • There’s also still a seperate offer on I bargain for users under 100Mbps with a code for a discount until November.

  • Wow amazing speeds!

For only 60cents extra a day!

And can be used on demand.

    Working now…

    https://imgur.com/gallery/vMEmb73

    • Are you a HFC or FTTP connection?

I can see the ACCC coming after the NBN for upto 1000Mbps. That looks like more like up to 400-500Mbps.

      Not Launtels issue of course.

      • Entirely possible that the router is the bottlneck. Pretty great that you're able to try it out and switch ad-hoc.

        • It’s up to 1000Mbps. I think it’s early days. But it is an “up to” product for sure. Maybe 400Mbps for now until they know which HFC lines will cause headaches.

“ Aussie Broadband reckons 800-900Mbps should be available for most of the day, and suggests 250Mbps should be regarded as the baseline in those extra-heavy evening spells.”

          So it’s a dud. But it’s a start I guess.

  • Absolutely recommend these guys for their customer service, got like a 15 email chain for the 1 week trial time, all went well but they followed up plenty to make sure it was all going fine.

No speed issues on 100/40 for the trial period (on fttc), similarly fine on 50/20 now.

    • Westnet or iinett or TPG or whoever they are now were once like that, probably won't last.

      • +1

Well with aggressively low levels of commitment it's easy enough to switch at a moment's notice if they go to crap.

  • 1 down nice, fairly boutique. Be interested what Launtel might release for just normal 1x nbn 0.1/0.1 up down?

$4/day clear budget pls, no frills/cellulite. (^waiting to see what others make in this racket; Teoh/Penn/Ruslan.)

    • +3

The fact that you can change speeds daily and pause service when you go away is amazing ballZ

  • when I enter my address I only get pricing up to 100/40 for $3 a day - assume that means im not eligible for 1000/50 :(

    • Same with me even though I am located within those POIs listed above!

      • +1

I have the same problem, chatted with their support. They have a further criteria:
There must be over 1600mbit cvc, my POI only has 150mbit of cvc
You can register your interest with them and they said they will update me should they get more.

  • I am on iinett 100/40 FTTP $99.95 unlimited, what happens with email address's i have, been with them since back when they were westnet? 15 years.

    • +6

You're not meant to use the ISP email addresses. That's just designed lock-in.

    • My parents are still on iinet so all my addresses live on their account. I've been trying for years to get my wife to give up using her isp email address.

You can also pay $25/year to keep the address - https://help.iinet.net.au/closing-iinet-account-or-changing-…

Launtel is looking like a pretty good deal. If my grandfathered Telstra plan goes away ($90 100/40 unlimited), they'll be on my shortlist for sure.

    • You can ask iinet to put you on an email plan. $25 a year. I've had it for a long time.

  • -4

Seems like more bureaucracy with the very limited POIs

    • +1

At least they are trying. The red tape itself is caused by NBNCo

  • +1

Been with Launtel for 4 Months and they have Great Service! Also ability to turn off the internet and not pay while on holidays , just amazing

  • Thanks OP.
Will also try sign up with the EARLYADOPTER code.

    • Seems to accept the code but doesn't change the prices at all.

  • +1

I don't trust organisations that have their WordPress Admin publicly available.

    • Who do you trust? What ISP you with currently?

    • Yeah, not like 2FA or strong password exist these days.

  • How much is this quicker? I'm quite new to the speed measurements of NBN.. I'm on 'NBN 100' plan paying about 80pm with Vodafone.

    • +2

It's quite simple. If you were getting 100 down before and now you get 1000 down then you should see a theoretical difference of 10 times in speed. "Theoretical" because will not always get as advertised. For example, do a speed test now with your current connection and you probably won't be hitting 100 exactly despite being on your NBN 100 plan and as others have commented, the advertised "1000" could be more like 600 or even less.

  • lol…. im still waiting for my NBN to be connected….

  • Apparently 5g optus is available at my home. Would that be better than going to the nbn? I have hfc available for nbn. Im waiting for my telstra cable contract to finish in October to decide…

  • +6

Too bad, Libs fkd' up the NBN. Lucky those on FTTP.
    Good deal though.

  • Possibly a 5:2 profile that's $6 a day 250/100 tier, would be enticing. Provided old foxtel cable is not necessarily excluded? Used at weekends(=$12), Sun-Thu 100/40($15), weekly cost comes out $27 not a bad sweet spot for mass market.

  • How’s the vic ping on this mob? My fortnite ping went from 45 to 25 going from internode to Aussie

    • They have a new Melbourne pop/server I think.

  • has anyone signed up from ACT? what are speeds & ping like? currently with ABB.

  • Gold Coast please Launtel!!

  • For those on HFC, you can now check whether your connection is capable of getting 1000/50 or 250/25 by putting your address into the following URL: https://launtel.net.au/residential

    • -1

Different company different agreements but even so that's just guestimating still better than nothing for unlucky only shows 100mbps with HFC but still have my fingers crossed for ABB to pull through.

      • Should be the same for all providers as this information is provided by NBN.

Just make sure that you scroll down to the bottom section that says "Expected Speeds:".

        • This is because Launtel doesn't have backhaul to all POIs. Vocus is for their Off-Net connections. AussieBB have a presence in all of them.

  • Is there any idea on when FTTC connections will have access to these plans?

    • +1

When ever NBN co decides to allow it. G.fast is available already just not enabled.

      • Sorry what is G.fast? I thought I read once that it was related to Coaxial?

        • G.Fast is the speed profile/rating for VDSL2 which is what FTTC uses.

          This article was in 2018 - https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2018/11/what-you-need-to-know-…

          • @Turd: Cheers mate

          • @Turd: Interesting - from that article:

Then-NBN CEO Bill Morrow said back in August that "the vast majority of the 1.5m premises on the FTTC network [will] be G.fast enabled by 2020.” It may be a while away, but it's better than nothing.<

            • +1

@m0usju1c3: Thats what we think. and MOST FTTC DPU's area already capable or upgraded to allow for G.Fast, even the FTTC modem they gave everyone supports G.Fast, it's just that NBNCo hasnt enabled it.

So yeah they just probably lagging it behind… for what knows reason.

              • @Turd: Well seeing as how they've just released these 1Gbps plans for FTTP/HFC, I'm sure as time goes on, pressure will mount from the FTTC crowd. It's great to know that the technology is ready to go though.

                • +1

@m0usju1c3: Problem is majority of people's lines may be good, but then you'll have those that have poor copper from the Pits to their houses, so saying 1Gbps is there wont be achievable. Kinda like FTTN how one house can have 95Mbps, yet their neighbours get 48Mbps.

This whole cluster fk of Internet is just really bad.

  • Oops I bought a 750Mbps router expecting that Australian internet wouldn't advance in a decade. facepalm.

    • +1

This only adds gigabit to 7% of 30% (HFC) of households. Also, for HFC, it's only burstable to gigabit. It actually runs normally at 'up to' 750Mbit/s.
FTTP already had gigabit before you bought that router.

      • But my router is 750 combined 5GHz and 2.4GHz, so it's actually 433. Though I don't see myself switching plans for a while considering how expensive gigabit is.

  • Launtel speed checker shows i get 1000 on hfc but abb shows only 250!

    Who to believe?

  • The great thing about Launtel is the ability to change speeds on demand.

For example I was on 25/5 most of the time, then one day I wanted some extra speed so I made it 100/40 and did that for a few hours then switched back. And was only charged for that day extra.

  • How are everyone's speeds on this new plan for anyone that signed up? Speedtest is impressive, getting around 900/40, but real word downloads from microsoft are not so much, only about 30MB/s while my mate on cable who is getting a bit over 550 down on speedtest can download the same file at full 56MB/s

    • I can download games from Epic / Steam / Star Citizen at over 90MB/s. Try download multiple files and see if the total speed get close to 900.

  • This sounds great! At least with the early adopter's price. The regular price isn't that good.

    The daily upgrade/downgrade is amazing!

I'm wondering after you pause the internet though, how do you unpause it given you don't have an internet connection anymore???

    • +1

      Use your mobile phone?

  • Launtel is amazing. Nice local support and I get 94/39 on a 100/40 on an FTTN, which is the best I have gotten so far after using 12 other ISPs. If only I wasn't on the crappy FTTN :/

    • 12? Did you try ABB?

  • and it begins, once it hits $100 sign me up

  • can someone please private message me a launtel referal code

    • I need one too if anyone has one.. thanks!

    • Your private messages are disabled.

    • Can someone PM me a referral code too please

  • Can someone send me a referral code too please? Need to sign up to a new NBN plan soon. Thanks

  • May I also please have a referral code!
