@ozbargainerlife1: Yes indeed - live chat people just ask which card number I'm talking about and think it's funny.

  • +2

Anyone not get their credits from last weeks spend?

    • I've had some come through and I'm still waiting on others to come through from earlier transactions. Just give it a few days.

      • Same here. I have some transactions done on Wednesday (10 June) and are still waiting for the credits.
You can call them at 1300 132 639 - Mon to Fri - from 7.00am to 8.00 pm or Sat to Sun- from 7.00am to 6.00pm
or via online chat 24 hours.

    • I spent on Sat 13 and got the credit back today.

  • I noticed a few Chemist Warehouses in Perth got dropped from the small shop map. I swear they were there yesterday.

    • same in Brisbane BUT did not show the Small Shop logo therefore do not qualify. Be careful. the merchant must show the logo.

      .
Conversely there are a few Priceline Chemists on the list and $5.00 will come off scripts also.

  • can confirm credits are coming back slowly

  • +1

Just received 3x emails from AmEx confirming my purchases when I used my 3 supps at a Super Butcher Eagle Farm, Brisbane. I had used one of the supps last week and received the credit so it's not like it's a supp card only thing either.

I guess Amex emails are back in the menu.

    • +3

5 purchases made today and received 2 emails. Very inconsistent.

      • +2

Three purchases and zero emails. I guess all we can do is keep tabs and wait for credits to flow in.

  • Logged onto the Amex website. There is an add or link to enroll for this offer.

Click on the link and no offers…

  • +1

Anyone still haven’t received their credits from the start of the promotion?

    • +2

I am still waiting for a few credits from the first day of the promotion.

    • +3

I have received 1 x $5 out of 4 purchases. Didn't receive any emails like I did in previous years.

      • +3

Beware that their map link from my Amex app is showing more business like Chemist Warehouse, Nando’s, KFC, etc with no shop small logo next to it. They’re not eligible. They have filter option, but not sure how to apply it since there’s no button to confirm. The desktop search is fine, but it’s awful too with the big Amex disclaimer overlaying the list in the middle :(

  • Are transactions processed through Google Pay eligible for the Shop Small credit?

I know the T&Cs say this: "Transactions processed through a third party are not eligible for the offer." Does anyone know whether Google Pay (or Apple Pay) would fall within this bucket?

I used Google Pay (on my Pixel 2) for a couple of transactions today and have not received any notification email that I would usually get. Although I guess there's a chance that the notifications could just be delayed (like others have posted).

    • +5

Google Pay transactions still count. I've received credits already from Google Pay payments. I would hate to have to carry around multiple cards during Shop Small.

Notification emails are hit and miss at the moment. I've received emails for 3 out of about 10 transactions across my 4 cards.

    • +1

Google Pay and Apple Pay are not really transaction providers but they are the ways to carry the cards (without carrying the physical cards).

    • Just an update on my initial query. My transactions via Google Pay on my phone didn't end up earning the Shop Small credits. I never got any notification emails for those transactions.

But days later when I went back to the same shops and used my actual Amex card, I did receive notification emails and received the credits.

Hence the initial transactions for some reason never registered under the Shop Small promotion.

  • +2

Made a purchase at a store today for a single $40 item. The bloke was a gun, let me do 4x $10 payments on four cards… Got an email for each transaction 👌

  • Made a purchase at a store today for a single $50 item. They let me do 3x $10 and 1x $20 payments on four cards… DID NOT get an email for each transaction ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Which store was that?

      • Cake shop in VIC… They are on the AMEX map.

Guess the point I was making is that AMEX seem to be a little inconsistent with the notification this year, but I wouldn't sweat not getting the statement credit, especially if the store is on the map!

        • Yeah waiting game when no email is sent

Opal run around Sydney CBD during the past week:

Wu's Pharmacy, 629 George Street: 2% surcharge so $10.20 per Amex. Tap and go. Can do split payment (multiple cards for same top up). No Amex emails, but cash back received next day. Very efficient, just asked how many Amex I have.

Oxford Street Newsagency, Shop 1, 18-32 Oxford Street (near bus stop): 2.5% surcharge so $10.25 per Amex. Tap and go. Can do split payment (multiple cards for same top up). Amex emails received, cash back not yet arrived. The shopkeeper was nice and very efficient.

Quay Newsagency, Alfred Street (under Circular Quay station): 1.6% surcharge displayed clearly. Tap and go. Refused to do split payment, said minimum is $20 per Amex. Thanked them politely and left without topping up.

    • if they are quiet, they will do it as I have done it just last Friday. Bring a Children/Senior opal card they can't refuse.

    • Nice. What does 0 or 1 mean in shop small column?

      • +2

1 is part of Shop Small

    • Are the pins meant to be clickable / show shop name on the map? Because they don't seem to

      • +2

Nah. Only hover over the pin to show the store name.

If clickable, the data download would be too much.

Not going to work on phone.

    • +2

Thanks again Thydzik, for providing listing, very helpful.

  • Very disappointed this year it's targeted. No offer for me.

  • +1

    Still no credits. Anyone else?
Iv called them and they crap on about 90 days etc etc
Feel like telling them you know who i am. I’m a professional in hardly normal eyes

    • Same here. I called them too and they also gave me the 90 days crap.

    • Did you use apple pay ? I have to inquire for one of my transaction from 12 June (apple pay) and the Amex rep said Apple pay transactions are generally not included in the promotion. That is certainly a news to me!

      • Very interesting. I used google pay, not Apple pay, and I didn't get email confirmation… BUT when I used my physical card I did get an email confirmation.

Last year I used Google pay no worries for Shop Small.

      • Used physical card
All my 9 tranx so far not paid yet.

      • Interesting as I’ve used Apple Pay and whilst I didn’t get an email, I did get credit a week later.

  • -3

Can we use same card at same store for getting credit 10 times?

    • No. Team and condition clearly stated:
"Spend at different participating small businesses to redeem $5 on a $10 spend, up to 10 times."

  • Does this finish at the end of the month?

    • +2

You have until 31st of August.

  • My mother shopped at an eligible small shop today and received the email confirmation within minutes of walking out of the store.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just got $5 credited from buying a game on Mighty Ape website…weird, didn’t think they would be part of shop small.

    • +2

I remember being quite surprised when I found out that a particular strip club in Sydney was a Shop Small retailer. I couldn't wipe the smirk off my face after I used my card and 30 sec later got an email saying that that I'd completed an eligible transaction.

  • It's annoyingly hit and miss with the emails and speed of the refund… Some have been instant. I'm still waiting for a few over a week ago… my first tx took 2 days to come.

    Roseville Newsagency

    • Was just at Rhodes and thought about trying… thanks for next time!

    • Did you mean minimum top up of $20 can be split to 2 opal cards?

      • +1

yes was willing to charge adult opal whatever allowable amounts but with $10 each payment

  • Got my first shop small email today, as some others have reported they appear to be sending them out again.

  • Checked my posted transactions today and I have a $5.00 credit labelled OVER THE COUNTER CARD A/C PAYMENT FEE. Showed up after I used the card at a Shop Small retailer but I've also received the regular $5.00 Shop Small credit for that retailer too. Anyone seen this before?

  • +22

For those who didn't get the offer on their cards or some of their cards, does this manual link work for you?

    https://offerenroll.americanexpress.com/enroll/EnrollmentSit…

    Received it via The Fork.

    • +1

I registered just now with a supp card that wasn't showing this offer in AMEX portal…

I've filled in the form via your link!

      Thank you for registering!
You have successfully registered your American Express® Card. All you need to do now is spend $10 or more on that Card, in one transaction, online or >in-store at participating small businesses by 31/08/2020, and you will receive one $5 credit. Valid up to 10 times, once per participating business.

Edit: And now checking this supp card AMEX portal, it's under my saved offers!!!

      THANK YOU!!!

      • Awesome, thanks for confirming. I'll add it to the OP and removed the targeted tag.

        • I registered as well but haven't got the usual instant email from AMEX about the offer.

It is showing up in my offers though

          • +1

@knobbs: Same here. I think it should be ok because it appeared under the save offers.

  • Emails have been hit and miss this year.

  • Used in Grill'D last week (which appears in the Amex Map), but not getting any cash back by checking the account.
Just wondering how many shops from the map are not legit? as I know Chemist Warehouse don't even accept Amex, but they all appeared on the map.

    • +5

I don't think Grill'd are part of it as there's no Shop Small logo. There's a map filter to only show Shop Small shops.

Chemist Warehouse does accept Amex (started some time last year), but they're also not part of Shop Small.

    • +1

      Chemist warehouse DOES accept AMEX.

      • Did anyone get $5 back with purchase from Chemist Warehouse?

  • Is there a text list of small shop that are part of this promotion?
Much easier and faster than referring to a map

    • In the comments

  • Thanks OP, I just received my new Amex Card yesterday (26th), saw this deal, and I'm already enjoying this card. Perfect time for the deal!

  • +2

Received a bunch of emails for purchases made today and received emails. But the emails don't say what store it's for…

    • Same ere

    • +2

Received all 7 of my cashbacks from Saturday, of which I received emails for all. Still waiting on 7 from over a week ago…

  • +1

I got caught out having used a square terminal thinking that it would go through, but Amex would not register it as a shop small transaction even though it was from a participating merchant.

    • +1

contact Amex, they will manually refund you

      • Great! Will try on Monday!

  • +1

my emails received vs credits given vs credit due

is absolutely all over the place!

  • is there a set time of day of when rebates are applied to accounts?

  • +2

Hi all, I tried live chat since I havent received my cashback from 18th June. The rep said

"I'd like to inform you that it's a known issue and few customers are not receiving emails as soon as they make the spend. Please do not worry if you made the purchase at the eligible Shop once the transaction is posted on your account you may receive an email and the credit is applied within 3-5 business days after the charge post-date."

Doesn't explain why mine hasnt come in after 5 buisness days but rep said

"I understand. However, there is a known issue that emails are delayed due to technical issue. I assure you that I have escalated the case and the dedicated team will work on it"

Just have to wait I guess.

    • Based on previous experience with minor bungles by amex for these types of cashback promos, customer service has been pretty good in manually crediting what is due, so have a chat with them after waiting… But YMMV.

      • +4

FYI just opened a chat for 2x missing credits from transactions 10 days ago … they manually applied the credits.

        • +1

yup same, after they checked the small shop map to see if the business was listed.

        • Did they credit you while in the chat or did you have to wait a number to days for it show on your account?

          • +1

@ClaudeVL: Credit confirmed whilst in the chat (I even double confirmed with the rep) and they said 3-5 business days it should appear on my card's activity list.

  • Just received a more personal SS email identifying the business I had just used the offer at. This is how Amex SS emails used to be. Much better.

  • This is an absolute circus this year. Amex chat said they would apply the credits manually after they tried to fob me off on the five working days which I waited for. Still no credits assigned.

Is calling better than the live chat?

Edit: I see two duplicated $96 charges, one processed and one stuck in pending and another duplicated charge (one posted, one in pending) on my card.

I'm assuming the pending charges will go but I have never seen duplicated charges like this before.

Make sure you check your statements.

    • +1

I got a dupe charge for uber eats, first time ever in years, but I suspect it will disappear

I also have 2 charges from 19th that havent got cashbacks,
I got told 14 business days, staff couldnt even find hte entry on their map, until I had to manually show them,

hopeless as usual by anyone at amex

Register staff were a little miffed about why I was doing this so I explained the Shop Small program which one of them had heard about. The manager/senior staff member did make an unwelcoming face when I said it wouldn't surprise me if this happens more often over the next couple of months.

Just remember to be polite about things. Don't Brogan it for the rest of us.

    Paddington News
95 Latrobe Tce, Paddington (upper level of the Woolworths complex)

    • +2

Don't Brogan it for the rest of us.

Isn't it supposed to be 'Don't Broden it?'

      • +1

        (profanity)

I even searched on the forums since Brogan didn't quite sound right but there were hits for Brogan. Broden is the right one.

    • Curious how many cards you have. Does anyone of them question if you are the owner of all the cards you used to top up?

      • I only have 4 cards. No one has ever asked me about the names on my cards or if they're mine.

        • I was at Priceline last week and used 3 cards. The women said the cards you used were all different and she asked me if they were all mine. I was amazed that she actually paid attentions to the cards I used. I paid separately. I wonder if system allowed her to see partial card numbers. I don't know. I had to explain to her. Her expressions and the way she questioned me made me felt uncomfortable.

          • @apple0604: Do not feel uncomfortable. You were not doing anything wrong. Someone once asked me how com they were busy all of a sudden with people coming in and doing small transactions, they were genuinely curious.

      • I have 10 cards and for MYKI topup fronted with all at more than one place. Never questioned.

        • I must look suspicious. :(

          • @apple0604: If it makes you feel any better, I just got a call from AmEx today to verify the the identity of the name I gave for my newest supp card. Unfortunately my newest application might not necessarily have all their affairs in order so I've been caught there.

            • @daanish: So your supp card wasn't approved. In the past, people on here said they were not asked for ID verifications for their supp card applications. I was always a bit unconvinced. I was called (a few years back) to provide ID info twice.

              • @apple0604: It's been true for me.

I added supps for my 3 immediate family members with no verification required. I just filled out the applications online and a week later they were in the mail. I wanted to add an extra supp so I did the usual trick of adding one in a pet's name but they've followed up asking for some ID verification. Guess I'll have to cancel it and try my luck later.

                • @daanish: Did you use an unmatched last name for your pet? That might be the reason.
