Not much point getting 3800x imo

    • +2

Exactly. Paying an extra $80 for a 100MHz clock bump with little to no performance increase, however it does raise the current limit for overclockers.

      • however it does raise the current limit for overclockers.

        What do you mean?

Isn't it just the same chip but from a better bin?

        • +3

The 3800X is a 105W chip while the 3700X is a 65W chip. There is a higher EDC or Electrical Design Current limit on the 3800X. The 3700X has a 90A limit and the 3800X has a 168A limit IIRC. This means you can overclock further with the 3800X.

          • +1

@Void: Stupid English! I thought you meant "current" as in "present". But now that makes sense. Thank you.

          • @Void: EDC is not relevant for overclocking because that constraint is either modified or ignored (PBO changes EDC, setting static clock speed ignores it). 3800x typically overclocks a bit better because it is a better bin.

            • @Hoges: Last time I checked on my 3500X I couldn't get it past 90.

These are the OC chips you're looking for, they are sweet as value for performance/money, each tier is receptively work their asking.

  • Does Amazon US add GST?

    • Gst is included in the price listed

  • +3

Also include the 3600 in the title, I'm sure more OzBargainers would be interested in that too.

    • +1

      done, thank you. :)

  • Almost at pre coroma prices.

Must resist… only 5 months until Black Friday for Ryzen 4.

  • 3600 won't be in stock until June 30th. Would have jumped on this deal but would prefer it sooner

    • 279 at shopping express and in stock

      • How good are shopping express? Have read a few poor reviews.

        • Haven’t bought from them in over a year but didn’t have an issue…if the item is in stock they tend to ship out quickly

          • +3

@Japius: I bought a 3900X for $669.10 from this deal with Futu Online on eBay (which is apparently run by the same people - it was actually shipped in a Shopping Express box) on Wednesday and it arrived on Thursday.

            • +1

@nullAndVoid: I think you should post as a deal because it's coming up in every 3900x thread

              • @drilly: It is in this deal, though it isn't in the title.

Edit: Am stupid this is coming from Amazon US whereas that is coming from Futu. 🤦‍♂️

        • Bought from them a month ago for motherboard, ram and cpu and had no issues whatsoever. Customer support was quick to send the Xbox game pass and Netflix voucher too. Comes with invoice with ABN.

Edit: Downside is they charge a 1% fee if paying card or PayPal. Free with bank transfer.

  • How is Amazon US warranty?

    • Has been exactly the same for me. It's still selling from the au domain, it's just coming from the US.

  • Can anyone comment on the lifespan of the Prism fan? I have mine tuned to idle at 50 % but ramp from 80–100 % at gaming temps of 50–55 °C on my 1600 AF.

    • +6

It's unusual for fan lifespan to be an issue. I haven't heard any problems with the Ryzen ones. Likely the fan will last longer than the PC is relevant even if it gets a bit noisier.

  • should claim another 20$ back off 28 degrees…
prism good why upgrade unless too noisy

    • prism good why upgrade unless too noisy

It's fine for the 3700X, but it's not enough for the 3900X. It's a shame they don't include a Wraith Prism with the 3600, it'd match perfectly there. The dinky little Wraith Stealth that comes with the 3600 is horrible, bad build quality, too noisy, boost clocks limited by temperature…etc.

That being said, I'd much prefer them just not include a box cooler at all, drop the price and sell the Wraith Prism for ~$30 or so.

      • It is a shame, fair enough. Not complaining about Wraith Prism haven't even set the thing up, but from all account's it's good.
Yes thought it should be included on those.. everyone is suggesting that too.

  • Any good Mobo deals/recommendations to pair with a 3600/3700X?

    • A520 and B550 just about to pop.

    • I'm using a MSI B450 Mortar Max, currently ~$170 online. Decent VRM for price and Ryzen 3000 support out of the box (with future 4000 support confirmed).

  • X570 :D

Don't waste your money on this if you are a gamer , can do better with Intel for much less.

    • +1

I'm curious what your opinion is based on?
This is my first time diving into an AMD build and all the sources I've read show the Ryzen chips compared at the same price point as Intel are generally better performing.
      What are your recommendations?

  • +1

    STOP TEMPTING ME T_T
I'm trying to wait it out til the Zen 3 chips come out and hope for further price drops on the 3000 series.

    • +1

Haha i know the feeling holding out for the 4000 series and RTX 3000 series for my itx build!

  • Do you guys reckon the Ryzen 5 3600 price will get lower soon, or is this a great price

  • Any good custom build pcs with ryzen 5 available?

  • Looks like these have dropped a few Dollars more.
    R9 3900x - $663.86
    R7 3700x - $444.24

  • Ryzen 5 3600 is OOS now.

    • back in stock $1 cheaper! :)

  • $440.90 just keeps dropping!

  • Price has dropped to 262 from Amazon US and 265 from Amazon AU

  • Yup - that was enough waiting for me, I've ordered. (knowing full well we may be getting the Matisse refresh CPU's in the next few weeks/month).

  • Ryzen 5 3600(amazon.com.au) $266.97
This deal from above link, this is from the US is it? The other deal for these in Aus from Amazon just ran out an hour ago and is back up to $311.

    • Just clicked on your link and snagged myself a ryzen 5 3600 for $206 O_O nice price!
