that workstation on the cover looks alright for the price

    • +3

Looks more like some shelves. What kind of work are you doing to do on a shelf?!?

      • Looks like you can put the “shelves” at any height and then the bench at “work” height?

        • +1

What I meant was, it looks too narrow to be a workbench.

      • +6

You put all the diy tools you buy on ozB on it, so it looks like you've been using them… So now you look like a cool diy guy and wife thinks ok his using them… Win win

Note: for this to work do not hang them! This is tracked and classified as not being used! Onya ALDI for providing a cheap shelf that looks like a work bench!

        • Ahh ok! That does make more sense. Thanks!

      • oh i wouldnt be doing much 'work' on it lol. was thinking more a hobby station eg painting etc. but i dont need it have a decent workbench but if i needed one, that would be pretty handy with the storage racks

    • The bench surface is not real thick or sturdy, a bit light weight to do anything serious. Also the uprights at the front extending above the bench i reckon would get in the road.

I bought this a few months ago as a secondary bench, really sturdy with a solid timber top not some particle board. https://www.bunnings.com.au/pinnacle-920-x-1500-x-540mm-3-ti…

      • On page 10 it says 200kg loading for the workbench, 500kg per shelf and 50kg per pegboard.

Not sure I'd want to test that.

        • How’s Aldi on their returns? I’ll test it.

          • @Owgasm: standard 60 day return for any reason isn't it?

      • +1

Yeah, the Pinnacle gear from Bunnings is good quality. Much better than the Montgomery rack I got and regret.

    • Was tempted to put that one in too, looks pretty solid.

    • +3

Nah, not really. Get this instead:

      https://www.superrack.com.au/shop/longspan-shelving/heavy-du… $269.10

I bought some of their racking a couple of weeks ago. It's identical to the equivalent item in Bunnings but substantially cheaper.

      • $60 shipping to Sydney.

    • +1

Just be aware with these types of workbenches, they have a 'lip' of metal that hangs around the edge of the bench top (which is where the table top fits in to). Because of that lip, you cant fit standard clamps around the edge. For example, you can't hang a bit of timber off the edge, clamp it down and saw off a bit.

      • I wouldn't buy this as a "workbench" which most people seem to think of. Anything using metal style bracketing is probably going to flex a bit with any sort of force.

I'm getting prep'd to build a proper workbench for myself using cheapie pine. Just something simple like Steve Ramsey's "BMW"that won't move as much. I already have a separate small IKEA table for those sit down projects like soldering.

Thanks so much for posting these! It's great to get a sneak peak at what's coming up.

      • +7

        triggered?

  • Can anyone make out what the tools are? I now have an addiction that needs feeding.

    • +18

You can click on each photo to embiggen them.

      • Not giving me open to enlarge them. Do you need to have Imgur App to do that?

        • +1

I'm not sure, I'm on my laptop, and when I scroll down and mouse over each image the cursor turns into a magnifying glass and I can click to enlarge it. Annoying if it doesn't work on mobile!

          • +3

@Get: Ah, I changed to desktop mode on my phone and it zooms in. Doesn't do it on mobile site. Cheers

            • +1

@Horrorstory: Glad you got it working!

              • @Get: On my laptop doing it now and I can see it. But a Multisharpener!? Does one need to sharpen tools?

                • @Loracks: No idea! It says it does knives too, but I'd be a bit afraid of trashing them by doing it wrong.

I'm tempted by the demolition drill. I have no use for it, but every man needs a demo drill, right? My wife doesn't think so…

        +1 for "embiggen"

        • +19

          It's a perfectly cromulent word.

        • +2

          Embiggen = AvE

          • @LowRange: Embiggen = Simpsons, but perfectly skookum anyways.

        • +1

We learn on ozbargain every day

        • He's embiggened that role with his cromulent performance.

      • +5

      • That's a perfectly cromulent word

    Any opinions on the airfryer?

    • +4

If it’s anything like the last time the air fryer was available, May the odds be ever in your favour

    • +2

Might not be enough wattage to do a good job. My 5L airfryer is 1500w.

  • +3

23L air fryer….that's more like an oven..

    • That's exactly what I was thinking!

    • +5

Aren't all air fryer just ovens anyway? This one is just bigger.

      • Yes and no. Air fryers are way speedier than an oven, well the 'normal' sized ones I've used.

        • +3

Probably just because they are smaller, more airflow.

          • @samfisher5986: Possibly stronger air flow too. I wonder how this aldi one will work, it's massive.

      • Pretty much, just with a bigger fan.

      • Yes, the key difference is the size.
A big oven fits more stuff in, but takes ages to heat up, a small oven fits less but is faster. So for most people who only cook/heat small meals a small oven is better. If it was just me I'd get a high end toaster oven, as it does everything for 1 or 2 people.

        • recommendations on high end toaster oven? i'm with you on that, just can't find anything to beat the price/performance of my kmart one for 40 bucks lol

  • Have they done the workstation before?
    Any reviews?

I’ve actually been thinking about something exactly like it.
    Perhaps two side by side.

    Any dimensions OP?

  • +2

Wattage to volume ratio is too small

    • What does this mean - will it not maintain claimed temperatures, have to use more electricity than an equivalent oven with higher wattage?
Was looking between this and the Sunbeam BT7200

Finally, the once a year $99 mobile plan recharge but it’s a small one -15gb per year

wondering if I should get this

15GB for $99 or (15 GB too little for me) or

recharge my boost for $51 more and get 65GB more ie

80GB for $150 (80GB too much for me)

(I've got 50 GB left over and it does not roll over)

or is there something that is in between the two and runs on telstra

      • wondering if I should get this

Now I too am wondering if you should get this.

      • The $55 a month for 80GB on Telstra with a $400 JB gift card works out pretty cheap for the year if you are buying something there anyway or you sell it in the classifieds.

      • +2

@docians - You can add on data to the ALDI $99/365 plan as you go. Eg 20Gb for $30, or 70Gb for $60. If you recharge your plan (to the same or greater value) within 24hrs of expiry, your data rolls over.

A neg for some people is that ALDI and other MVNOs don't get the full Telstra network. Also, it's a no frills service (ie no freebie add-ons like sport or music streaming).

Have had this for 18 months and it suits me. Their offshore phone help has been top notch and their online help has been relatively quick.

        https://www.aldimobile.com.au/m3/docs/critical_information_s…

Top job OP. Thanks. Bathroom tiles background next week?

      • Belong. Get two of the 10$ for 40$ packs to start when on sale. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538393)

Have yourself and a friend start accounts.
Start the one in your name first, set it to use $10/month for 1GB - data rolls over unlimited calls and text.

Get+share referral link = 20$ credit to you and referee.

Start 2nd sim with friend. have them do $40 plan, Swing them $20 (total spend $30, total credit $80) once their account renews they will have between 80-120GB credit, get them to send this data to your first sim and close the account.

Now for $100 you have 12GB + 80/120GB data that will keep rolling over. To make future years simple it would be $120/year though there are ways to do this even cheaper, but much less legit.

      • Also there is Zero mobile if you don't mind ads and/or a front line worker.

Would anyone recommend the Espresso machine?

      • +2

Thanks. I found another video as well. But, what I want to know is whether our fellow ozbargainers recommend this machine on the basis of price/performance. Which machine is the favourite here in the similar price range ie. $150-200

        • If it were me, I would probably spend a bit more and get the Breville Bambino Plus or the Breville Express out of fear that a cheap $150 expresso machine would leave me wanting more

          • @motion2082: Except that’s not a bit more; the Breville Bambino Plus is a $499 machine, 266% more expensive, the Express is $699… only $450 more. Nevermind the RRP of that machine is actually $950.

@jsb: in the $150-200 price range, usually something like the Delonghi Dedica gets some good comments.

          • @motion2082: The Breville duo temp pro can be had for around $250, and has the same internals as the higher end Breville machines. The Bambino is only really if you buy pre ground coffee; if you grind your own it's a waste it money as it only has dual wall filters (the other Brevilles all have both single and dual wall filters)

        • I can't comment on this one, but another worth considering is the Sunbeam Mini Barista. It's around $250, but sometimes comes down to $200. It has a Choice recommendation. I've had it for 9 months and am happy with it. Not sure exactly how it compares to this, but it has larger water tank, standard 58mm filter size, single and double shot settings, as well as hot water option.

One thing to bear in mind is whether you'll be buying ground beans or griding yourself. Manual grinding can get tedious, but even factoring the cost of a separate electric grinder, these smaller machines can be cheaper than an all-in-one.

    • no. i ended up buying the $600 delonghi nespresso machine with the milk steamer. wow, its amazing. better then buying overprice coffee outside. when im out, i can't wait to get home and get amazing coffee. i really didn't want to spend a lot for a coffee machine, but i just bit the bullet and bought it. i wish i knew how it performed, or else i would have bought it a long long time ago. its the absolute best.

      • Like this one? Gran Lattissima EN650.W https://www.delonghi.com/en-au/products/coffee/coffee-makers…
        What pods do you use?
coming from aldi machine (i like strong coffee) I'm in the market but unsure if i should look at a good pod machine with better pods vs expresso machine

        • +4

$600 on a pod machine seems like a terrible idea

          • @TheMoon: I said the same thing, then I bought it. now i cant drink coffee from another machine, and prefer my machine over the cafes. its even better then the coffee shops. it comes out to be .25 - .50 cents per cup of coffee. i drink at least 2 cups a day, and it paid itself off in 81-87 days. initial cost is high, but you have to look at the longer term savings. after the 1st year is the difference of paying $782 with my awesome machine vs $2912 getting it from outside. and that is for a great cup of coffee.

        • i have both, but i use the pods more often because its so fast and self cleans. i really only use my espresso machine when i have guest or on the weekends when i have a lot more time to make it. i use the pods most often and it makes it just as good as my espresso machine.

    • The Best Espresso Machines Under £100 (might give you an idea of what to expect)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avM-XsaTBIc&feature=youtu.be

    • Not sure if it’s the same one but it looks like it’s the same Delonghi one ALDI had last year. It was so terrible I took it straight back. There’s no space to put a mug underneath, the frother was rubbish, the tamper and the machine filter was light cheap plastic junk. I got a breville in the end, amazing machine often on special.

      • What Breville machine did you get?

  • That worstation idea is clever, im gonna convert one of my heavy shelfs into one.

This week you get my floor as a background instead of the bench top.

The timber grain is a nice touch, gives it a warm frame

  • Are these good sweatpants?

    • +1

They are decent as leggings but not trackies, not thick or fleecy or anything of that sort

  • +2

Looks better than last year's airfryer. The light inside the oven stopped working after a month. Wasn't replaceable. Had to get a refund. Aldi took it back even at 90 days later which is beyond their policy. The actually company wanted me to send it back to get a refund. I still couldn't fit more than one very small chicken in it. Was hoping to fit 2 inside it since it was more like an actually oven in dimensions. At the store the guy actually had one discounted to 89. Decided not to buy incase the light failed again.

    • My ALDI oven element blew up last night. It's still got 18 months warranty remaining. Surely they won't expect me to post it to Sterling (manufacturer)?

      • +1

They will email u a replied paid label to print. Try the store first though before contacting them.

      • +1

Regardless of what they expect you to do, consumer law says you can return it to POS and it's up to them to send back to the supplier. If they are paying for the return postage it may be quicker to send back to the supplier yourself though.

      • As per my experience, they just refund immediately.

  • This week you get my floor as a background instead of the bench top

looks better than my bench top lol

I got one this one today which had been pretty good used tonight. They had like 20 on a pallet in the aisle. No crazy aldi queues either.

The Kmart one for $70 which I had was pretty much rubbish

Remember people, when fighting at Aldi, arms up, make sure you protect your chin.

    • And maintain social distancing!

      • Impossible during special buys

        • I've already got anxiety because I need time to find out the fit size!

    • You’re not kidding. Went in today to pick up a couple of chopping boards and a couple of women just stormed the queue, trying to barge everyone in front of them out of the way. Unbelievable behaviour.

      • I've witnessed people jumping over the display racks to rip stuff out of others arms, absolutely revolting behaviour.

  • are the pink/purple work boots for women, or can men use it too. oh, asking for a friend.

    • Depends … does your friend have big ear lobes?

  • Question ps. How do I bookmark this for when it starts?? Mwaahhh
