The S3000 Pro is $3 cheaper from Trinityconnect Online

    • My pair arrived today and I can confirm that they both feel and sound excellent. They're by no means the best speakers but you really can't go wrong for their sale price.
For anyone wanting to use them as a desktop speaker, it's definitely possible just know that they're quite massive. I know they were going to be bigger than the RB1700bt I was using, but wasn't expecting them to be dwarfed by the S3000pro

  • can they be used with LG TVs?

    • I can use Bluetooth with my LG B8, so I'd say if your TV has bluetooth, then yes it can work fine.

Can't comment on any lag with the sound, however.

    • +4

Best connection method would be optical connection.
You should have a connection that looks like this on your TV.

Both speaker models come with optical cable included.

      • +1

While they will work with optical, if you're primary use case is home entertainment these are not what you want. I used the s1000db for many years as a music + HT setup and optical is a pain with TVs - often you will have to deal with audio timing problems (TVs do have correction settings for this but I found it would regularly drop out of sync with longer use IE: movies) and there's no ARC so volume and input will always be through the speaker remote rather than tv remote.
Music wise though, if these are better than the s1000db's then bang for buck they're a great buy. Alternatively if you don't mind slightly less power, the s1000db is available on their [Edifier] AU website for $400.

        $20 QLD
        $30 NT/WA

        • audio timing problems (TVs do have correction settings for this but I found it would regularly drop out of sync with longer use IE: movies)

Strange I have never experienced this with optical. Other products such as ‘sound bars’ etc from other companies can connect fine with optical (e.g. Yamaha YAS-106 & Sonos Beam). Make sure the digital audio output is set to “PCM stereo”.
There is also another option of connection which is by traditional RCA’s.

If your TV has a 3.5mm headphone output you could connect using the included 3.5mm to 2x RCA cable and keep the Edifier volume set, and still adjust volume using the TV remote.

Also S1000db model is getting quite old now, so I recommend the S2000MKIII for $30 more in this deal.

How does this compare to Sonos

Are these speakers designed more as audio music listening vs hacking it for tv / movies via an optical input into a TV?

    • The S3000Pro will do both. S350DB is apparently tuned bass heavy, so I think more suitable for movies / media.

    • Anything without HDMI/ARC at this point is just painful to use as an HT setup

  • Question, will these be better with a DAC+amp to drive them? My computer is a 8 year old SFF office desktop.

If so, what budget options should I look at?

    • +2

Feedback here on ozb says digital-input (Coax / Optical / USB) using the on-board DAC gives the best audio quality for Edifier speakers.

  • Do these need an amp? Are they wireless?

    • They are both ‘powered’ meaning amplifiers are built-in inside.
Both have Bluetooth for wireless audio, and S3000Pro connects Left & Right Speakers wirelessly, but needs a power cable for each speaker.

S350DB needs cables to connect Left & Right + Sub, cables are included.

  • +2

S3000 are probably the best sounding / paired set of speakers in my home and thats coming from with someone who does audio mixing and Uses DAC’s and switches opamp chips. The bass is tight with no need to change the default treble and base. Lows get muddy when bass is turned up. Zero lag between speakers.

No auto detecting of the audio source which means one is manually switching between optical and bluetooth which is a pain. They also don’t auto power off so there is a slight background hiss in a quiet home. Anyone can bluetooth to the device so may be a problem if neighbours select the speakers :)

Very clear dynamic soundstage. Tad bright.
Most guests walk away wanting to buy a pair

    • Thanks for sharing.

      Tad bright.

Yes I have heard this from another user, they turned down the treble to -1 or -2.

One more issue I have heard is, when you switch them on & off, they switch back to the default DSP setting (Classical I think).
The Tone Control (Treble / Bass) knobs stay put, so I imagine will be remembered though.

      • yep nice to here someone with a sond eng, type background

these are good, I do like edifier products however i would be reticient to spend $300+ on this stuff

you're probalby better off rolling your own amp and moving to proper nearfield monitors crossovers and the like if you're that into it

S350DB any good compared to Logitech Z623? Got Z623's for $88 and rock solid so far hooked to computer but need something for TV.

    • Completely different use case…the z623s are primarily designed as computer speakers and for gaming or movies, and are fine for most users. For TV you'd probably want something with more power and better sound clarity which these speakers would more than suffice (while you could also use them as computer speakers if you wanted). In this case you get what you pay for

    • +1

I have both the 350db has way better clarity than the logitech and go's louder

      • and louder

That's strange because the specs on 350db says it's only 150w while Logitech is 200w.

sub on 350db is 70w while on logitech is 130w. Could be because of more powerful mid range speakers.

        • +1

Power is just an indicator. Build quality/materials matter and source are all important factors. More power sure but my guess is that it sounds like wobbly ass at those higher driven levels.

        • Idk but its definitely louder and doesnt distort at all at max volume unlike the logitech

The logitech is more bassy/rumbly while the the bass on the edifier is more tight/cleaner

Music sounds 1000× better on edifier
          And so does everything else

    • Hey, just interested where you get your 88 z623? I am looking for it as well currently

I think very different use cases and logitechs are generally not really recommended by Audiophiles from everything I've read. But for $88 bucks I don't think you can go wrong for decent PC speakers?

I bought one from gumtree for $100, almost brand new condition..

    Was so lucky..

Picked up the s350db set last year to replace some super old logitech x530s as tv speakers.

Sounds 1000x better, the bass isn't constantly booming, the mids and highs are clear and it gets At least twice as loud before distorting.

That said Logitech speakers aren't exactly the epitome of quality and I only held on to them out of sheer convenience

  • I just got the R1700db from amazon sales and can attest for the sound quality, s350 must sound good cuz of the sub. For me the 3000 is good value , unfortunately I don’t have the space for it.

    • Hows the bass on the R1700db? Is it in anyway be atleast half as good as a dedicated sub of similar wattage?

      • I'm listening to it now, the bass is plenty enough for me as I'm using it with my PC in a room. I don't feel the need for a sub at all! Probably the most bang for buck speakers I've bought - cost $113 at Amazon last week.

        • Great! Thanks :)

        • omg how did i miss this?!!

          • @staryknight: the R1700BT was $133 on amazon deal of the day last week, i had $20 in amazon free vouchers so got it for $113.

        • What do you even know? You're not even an audiophile!

How does this compare to the Swan M50w ?

    • My opinion on Swan’s is good.
I would recommend them if they had newer versions available.

The subwoofer on the Edifier S350DB is larger, so I would expect slightly deeper bass. But overall they are similar, so if I already had the Swan’s I would keep them.

  • Complete noob. Why S3000 is better/expensive even without a sound woofer?

    • 2x 6.5inch bass will be better than one single 8inch subwoofer I guess, and it's said that 2.0 set has more technology comparing with a 2.1 system

    • +1

It's a mix of everything really, better build quality, better onboard electronics, better sound (subjective I guess).
Simply having a separate sub doesn't really indicate 'better'

How the s3000 is compared to the s2000kmiii?
Was just going to buy it! About $200 less

    • Am as well in the confusion on whether to go for s3000 or s2000mkiii. Apart from s3000 being more powerful and having wireless left and right speaker, I could not find much information on the overall sound experience between the two. Most of the reviews stated they are both good

      • Have a listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvEBODvCynY

Even though each stage will colour the sound (speakers, microphone, then your listening device), it might help demonstrate the differences.

        • Thanks Plutonus. I did listen to the comparison by Digital Stereophony and I was bit surprised that they are almost similar. Not sure if its due to my Sony extra bass headphones, even bass on s2000mkiii sounds almost good. I also sent a query to Edifier regarding these two speakers and just received their response as below.

"As for your enquiries, S3000Pro and S2000MKIII both are 2.0 speakers, featuring Bluetooth V5.0, Qualcomm aptX HD decoding.

Compared to S2000MKIII, of which its bass, medium, treble are equalized, the bass on S3000Pro is better. Besides, other than Line-in, Bluetooth, Optical and Coaxial inputs, S3000Pro also supports USB, Balanced audio input modes."

        • I guess it comes down to how you intend to use it and whether the differences are worth $200 to you. The S3000Pro will likely outshine the S2000MKIII in a larger room.

Although not particularly detailed, if you scroll down to 'Specifications' on each product's page on Edifier's website, it outlines the differences with outputs, frequency response range, signal-to-noise ratio, etc.

  • Is it possible to connect either of these to a received which requires bare wire connections?

    • You will need to connect to the receiver using either RCA from pre-outputs.
Or Coax / Optical digital out if the receiver has one.

Both models lack bare speaker wire connection.

      • I'm yet to get one. What do you think of it? Need sub or not for movies? Also if you have a Logitech z906, how does that compare? My Z5500 is still kicking on with sub at 25% in the spare room. Afraid to put it past 50%

Any feedback is appreciated :) ty

  • Pulled the trigger and ordered the S3000 pro. Need to wait and see :)

  • Kicking myself for missing this deal. s3000pro is now permanently more expensive as the local distributor upped the price

AND stock wont be in till mid to end Aug
