    Damn that's jacked

    • +1

Some stores were listing for $385 before coupon.

    • +3

Still cheaper than anywhere. Why the neg?

  • +3

    Y U so pricey B550.

We didn't need another premium level between x570 and b450, just an upgrade of b450.

    • +2

It will come down, no rush…

  • -1

    Vee124 is the seller 😂

    • nope, just bought one myself.

  • +2

I got a z490i from this store and they shipped express. Recommended.

  • +2

Even if its price jacked its a decent price compared to the B450 boards considering the extra VRM headroom and other features.

  • I bought a Ryzen 5 3600 from an earlier bargain as was going to get the MSI B450 TOMOHAWK MAX.
Is it worth spending the extra 70 or so to get this?
Personal preference to get a ATX board.

    • +3

Personally I would say yes. Better VRM, PCIe 4 and dual M.2 slot. Also likely to get better support/BIOS updates for 4000 series CPUs when released.

    • +1

If you think you may upgrade to a higher core count CPU in the near future, then $70 is worth it for the better VRM, and also higher RAM speed support that comes with 4000 series. If you're the type that keep your PC til it die and do complete new build when that happens, then save the $70 for something else.

    • Yep these B550 boards can run the 3950x no problems while the B450 can not unless you add extra cooling.

    • +1

      Not for a Ryzen 5 3600.

MSI B450 TOMOHAWK MAX is actually an excellent B450 with good VRMs and features.

It already has most/all of the features mentioned above as being advantages of "upgrading" to this.

      • +1

It is a good board. i had one but upgraded to the X570 tomahawk.

As for the advantages listed above, these are all things the B450 version does NOT have compared to the B550 version.

VRM wise, I agree the B450 is fine for 3600 and 3700x. If you would like the option of upgrading to a 12 or 16 core part down the track though, the B550 would be better.

        • +1

          My bad, you're correct.

I thought I'd read that the Tomohawk Max had dual M.2 slots (weird it doesn't when the smaller version, the Mortax Max, does) and mixed up my PCIe 4 with my PCIe x4 (duh, that's one of the big new features). Sorry.

(I still don't really think any of those features matter enough for the extra $70, but I'm a bit biased towards to the budget-to-mid-range as that's all I need for my own modest gaming requirements).

          • +1

@ItsMeAgro: All good. Depends what you're after in a board. No point spending more if you don't need it, but to me those extra features are worth it.

        • +1

I think a good B450 will do just fine for a 3900X. 3950X too, but not overclocked.

    • Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Was really close to getting this but ended up getting the MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX in the other listed deal.
Now I just need to wait for PSU deal

  • +2
