[SUBS] Hamilton: An American Musical @ Disney Plus

17417

“Hamilton” is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, “Hamilton” has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way.

A Bit More Info

Disney Plus is about to get its biggest release to date, as Lin-Manuel Miranda's Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton: An American Musical lands on the streaming service Friday. His visionary take on the "ten-dollar Founding Father without a father" is a cultural phenomenon rather than just another Broadway smash …

The version available for streaming this week was filmed at New York's Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2016 and features the original cast of the show, including Miranda himself as Alexander Hamilton alongside Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, and many other standout performances. Scroll down for full details of the original Hamilton cast that won 11 Tony Awards - Broadway's equivalent of the Oscars.

The film carries a PG-13 rating in the US, which is roughly equivalent to a 12A in the UK.

@bluesky: Indeed. You are on-trend with your mischief, bluesky ;-)
              Victorians…

Everyone stating not a deal, it's only fair throw some of those negative votes towards the next Xbox gold/ps+ 'deals' as well.
Add to that twitch prime, epic games, Amazon books, etc.

By the book, all of these negs are invalid.

In my opinion the mods can't continue to bury their heads here. Unpublish them, or change the rule.

    joke of a deal

  • +4

OP can't accept that this is not a deal. By OP's logic, should I start posting new shows coming onto Netflix with a free 7 day trial?

    • -1

      Read the rules champ

      • Hey, thanks for trying to discourage the negs, but perhaps don't bother and save your breath :-). So far, the moderator has seen it fit to let this post stay up. So those who might benefit from it can do so. Who cares if there are negs attached to it?

From my point of view, I have achieved my objective – bringing attention to other like-minded individuals, who have interest in seeing this show. They are now able to do so for a small or $0 cost.

Why do you need me to accept your view? I do my own critical thinking. I listen to what others say, if it makes sense I will accept, otherwise, I won’t.

It is not by fluke I have never negged another deal before – I am cognizant that even if it has little value to me, it could have tremendous value to others. Yes, I generally give a wide berth and do not nitpick. If there are too many deals to look at, this is where deal customisations come in.

As to whether you should start posting new shows and how often – if you let your common sense guide you as to what is reasonable, where are the limits and not to overstep bounds, then even such posts (carefully selected and not overdone) can be of benefit to some segment of members. The main thing is it must be guided by good sense and intentions. If your intention is to spam others for your own reasons, then people will see through that eventually, and it will backfire.

Not a bargain. Let’s get notifications for every new show on a streaming service shall we. Really clog up the system.

      Hi mate

You must have missed the bold text in the OP

I'll paste it here for ya

You can revoke your invalid neg or wait for the mods to unpublish it.

I'm excited to watch this tonight!

  • Does anyone know definitively what time this becomes available in Oz?

FYI, my wife has told me it wasnt midnight, 3am, 5am or 8:54am. Anyone know when it comes up?

    • +3

      5pm AEST, I believe.

    • Haha, I was still awake at 1am and it wasn't then. Or at 6.30ish when I woke.
I have heard it's 1700 AEST, but not confirmed.
I'm not even sure if the lazy buggers have switched to localised time, could be not until the US gets to 3/7?

  • What time will it be available?

    • +4

From a Lin-Manuel Miranda tweet, it is midnight July 3 PST, or 3 am in NY East Coast. So that is 5 PM AEST, I think.

Agreed with the others. There has been no discount on this exact item before. So how can it be a bargain? And the argument of comparing it to a live show doesn’t stand I’m afraid. On a similar vein, other game pass/sub should also not be considered a bargain

  • Just watched Hamilton with the family. Whilst we've listened to the soundtrack before, watching the full performance certainly brings it to life and it was very enjoyable. Turning on subtitles definitely helped follow the lyrics and give greater appreciation to the writing too. Lin Manuel is a genius :)

For some weird reason, I couldn't help thinking of a future Trump musical…definitely more than enough material out there!

    • Agree - watching with captions really helps with following the often rapid lyrics and appreciating the lyrical genius!

    • +1

Agree - I consider it one of the highlights since COVID! I have seen/heard bits and pieces, but never the entire performance - and it is really a whole new other level!

The other thing that was amusing and fun was seeing Jonathan Groff plays King George. I like the series Mindhunter a lot, where he plays the rather intellectual FBI agent Holden Ford. His transformation from that to this rather goofy character with the British accent and the mannerisms really gave me a few laughs.

The most captivating part, for me, has to be when Leslie Odom Jnr (Burr) started singing Dear Theodosia, in that duet with Miranda. Don’t know much about him before this, but that smooth, buttery, tender voice … just wow. I have since been listening again and again. The song is even more poignant knowing the fate that befell these children being sung about.

Yeah, really 10 out of 10, in my books.

      • +2

Dear Theodosia is one of my favourite songs. You should also listen to the Hamilton Mixtape where other established artists sing some of the songs.

        • I love it, thank you! I will check out the other stuff in the Mixtape as well.

          • +2

@bluesky: Kelly Clarkson's version of It's Quiet Uptown is great as well.

I just watched it again last night and it was even better, there was so much I missed the first time.

Also a reminder for those who only signed up for 1 month to make sure you cancel soon.

    • +1

I agree - it gets better with successive watching. There is so much going on. I saw it 3 times on consecutive days - and it seemed to get better each time.
