Would love a deal on the eufy 😍

    • Is the eufy about the best that's out there as of July 2020? I can't say I know much about them but I want to know more. If for no other reason, can't stand the doughnuts in the street at 3am, always right out the front of the house as its at a beautiful large T intersection.

Dangggg. Imagine waiting up until 3am just to do stupid burnouts. What a life 🥳😔

      • It's my preferred as there are no subscription fee as the footage gets sent to the homebase which sits inside. You will have to recharge around every 4-5 months unless you set up solar.

It might be difficult to capture people doing burnouts as it motion sensored via infrared which doesn't work through glass - if you set it to the road you'll capture every car going past. You might be better for setting up a video camera temporarily.

        I have Eufy 2C…

Cant say I am a massive fan.

        • Detects things outside of the activity areas that I set (ive excluded the road, but still detects cars every time they pass)
        • Some times Does not detect things in activity area (i walked right in front of the camera a few times and did not detect me)
        • Does not detects things when they are half way past the activity area (im trying to capture get dogs coming into my yard)
        • Although my home network issue, WiFi doesnt reach my back deck, so cant use it there.

In hindsight, I wish I got some cabled cameras that recorded 24/7 on loop to a local NAS/Storage…

    • Check the classifieds

    • You mean this?

  • No free cloud recording is that right? Local storage available though

    • Not for the 4k models no.

    • Got my Ultra just over a year ago and 12month plan just finished.
With some reconfiguration it is working okay with local storage.

I would still consider Eufy or Reolink options.

      • Can you watch local storage from phone app? Live and from motion detected video? Thank.

        • +1

You can watch the Arlo from local storage if you are on the same network, otherwise you need to use a VPN or port forwarding to access. You will need one of the newer hubs that supports local storage though.

  • Stay away from Arlo. Read their forums before buying. They have gone nuts after seperation from Netgear.

    • Long time arlo user here, they have only gotten better in my experience. It's a wireless system though, they don't compare to wired.

      • As a long time arlo user, I just sold mine. They are reducing the quality of the streams via firmware update.

        • I'm still on arlo pro and pro 2, saw a big improvement about a year ago, no change for me since. I came from swann so arlo was a huge upgrade hahaha. Would go wired if quality mattered to me. Eufy compresses so much its barely different

  • Purely my opinion after heavy research. Although the Eufy's are still only Full HD (1080p), they are far better value for money. Local storage, AI detection, Great battery life (which is incredibly important for wireless cameras), a fantastic base which extends the wi-fi coverage also, in built sirens on the camera and base, a good fast reliable application, motion sensing, active zone configuration and more for almost half the price. I do wish the eufy's were 4k as i feel Full HD are a thing of the past now, but what can you do!

    • I mean all that is in Arlo, but you have to pay the subscription and get 30 days cloud storage with multiple users. Otherwise you get 7 days cloud free

    • +1

Arlo does all of that, too? But with 4k resolution. I had battery issues with mine at the start, which has now been fixed. I get about 3 months battery from my cameras now - plenty for me.
At times 4k isn't as clear as a need, so I would never go back to 1080p.
If Eufy release a 4k camera I’ll reassess my setup (:

      • I heard bad things about the Arlo 4k battery life so I had power points put in just before I got them. Really like the Foresight feature that comes with the camera being constantly powered. I did have to move the Hub though as the Ultra uses more bandwidth and was not getting a good enough signal where the hub used to be. This is where I wished Arlo would run off Wi-Fi or have repeaters.

        • +1

Agree on the hub issue. Luckily, you can use multiple hubs. Considering it's (generally) cheaper to buy the 3-4pack + hub than single cameras, I may end up with two hubs anyway; negating the poor range.

Arlo have now released an Ultra+ variant that also uses 2.4ghz, instead of only 5ghz - this should address the range issue for any new customers, at least.

I agree about the foresight feature with the devices be in plugged in. I had mine powered when I was having battery issues and the motion sensing was does seem to be better when powered compared to when on battery. Eventually, I will have power to all my Arlo’s. But running them on battery is still good for those without the privilege of nearby power.

          • @Broos: I will have to look into this Ultra+ variant, I thought the Ultra Hub could run on both bands. I still see issues where when 2 cameras trigger at the same time, it is a lottery to see if both will end up recording even if you get notifications for both cameras.
My rear camera is currently not powered but might do that in the future.
