Crucial MX500 SATA SSD 500GB $86, 1TB $162, 2TB $315 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

930

Good pricing on well regarded SATA SSDs:

500GB

1TB

2TB

Delivery is $9.95 to most metro areas.

Shopping Express has a few other SSDs 'on sale' here but the MX500 are probabably the best of the offering IMO.

Theres also some decent M.2 MX500 prices.

  • Cheers, kogan just cancelled my order from yesterday for this ssd due to no stock so perfect timing

    • Yep same but plus shipping ☹️

      • I wanted the SSD so i'll cope with the $9 extra given its still cheaper than anywhere else. Annoying though

  • thanks, kogan just cancelled yesterdays order

  • Always plus shipping, whens shoppingexpress going to do free or at least reduced cost shipping to be competitive.

  • +2

The 2TB price is actually quite reasonable (I haven't looked at delivery costs) even compared to pre-COVID pricing. Last year I paid around $320 delivered from Futu Online with an eBay 20% coupon and eBay Plus free shipping.

    • Yeah it is good pricing.

Mx500 m.2 is $160. Not good value compared to $179 for Kingston a2000? What say you?

    • Is NVMe worth extra the $19? Probably….

      • Isn't MX500 m.2 still just SATA?

        • Yes. Im referring to the Kingston A2000 which is NVMe

          • @Skramit: Sorry my bad. You replied so quickly, I realised after I clicked post and went to edit it but then it wouldn't let me take it back :(

            • +1

              @jace88: PWNED.

              ;)

              • -4

@Skramit: It's ok, it could have been worse… I could've been anonymously negged.

                jk. Plz don't neg me.

    • I prefer the Kingston A2000 because it has 600 TBW endurance, matching the 860 Evo and 970 Evo Plus.

However, if you need a 2 TB drive, then MX500 is a good buy if the 860 Evo is too expensive.

  • It's $165. So extra $14 and to put that into perspective, that's 3 cup of coffee for faster speed, a newer technology for the next 5 years

    • +1

Its very situational, depending on what slots you have on your MB. Or perhaps only SATA ports… etc.

    • Still a good secondary drive for games or something. And as Skramit said it also depends on motherboard.

  • +2

Was just about to buy the 2tb from msy for 349, so saved $24 (when counting postage). Pretty happy.

  • +9

    $165.40 on Amazon

  • Are these equivalent to Samsung 860 EVO?

    • +2

Roughly similar to an 860 EVO SATA. yes.

    • +1

More or less. Slightly worse but a lot cheaper. Better than qvo. Generally a very good performance to cost price point.

      • +1

They also have 5yr warranty Vs only three years for Samsung QVO.

Crucua MX500 1TB owner here. I bought it when it was on "sale" for $176 so these are great prices for an excellent product.

        • Good to know, even better. Love a half decent warranty.

Not to hijack but UMart is offering equivilant ssd with a further discount around $15. 1TB $145. https://www.umart.com.au/Crucial-BX500-1TB-3D-NAND-SATA-2-5-…. Js good deal none the less either way.

    • +7

      https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/crucial-bx500-1tb-540…

      $135 at SE.

BX500 is entry level SSD with no onboard DRAM…. MX500 performs much better.

      • could you tell the difference between BX500 and MX500 given the ""measured" read/write being near identical and 6GB interface on both?

        BX500
        Sequential Read - 540 MB/s
        Sequential Write - 500 MB/s

        MX500
        Sequential Read - 560 MB/s
        Sequential Write - 510 MB/s

I'd be very surprised to hear people notice a difference.

        • +1

          BX500 3 year Warranty
          MX500 5 year Warranty

        • +1

Shorter lifespan than DRAM SSDs is more likely to be felt. Hence shorter warranty.

DRAM SSDs will also have higher sustained speeds. It's just not worth it for the inferior BX series.

        • +7

For files copies and sequential work, the BX will crash to very slow speeds very quickly.

Where as the MX500 can maintain 400Mb/s, the BX drops to under 100Mb/s under sustained writes.

        • +3

Huge difference between the two due to the DRAM-less (google it and you'll see what I mean) and for minimal price difference, I'd get the MX500.

  • +2

    MX500 = 860 EVO - Samsung tax.

    • +2

And it won’t catch on 🔥

    • +1

      MX500 = 860 EVO - Samsung tax.

Except the 860 EVO is currently cheaper…

      • +2

Yes it is. But when it isn't it the MX500 = 860 EVO - Samsung tax.

      • Really? Couldn't find the 2tb for less than $400 (even counting the cashback). Would have gotten the evo if the prices were the same.

    • +1

If only it was that simple! Samsung has a slight advantage here due to all components coming from the same manufacturer and they're using DDR4 instead of DDR3 memory.

      Crucial MX500 = Micron 64-layer 3D TLC NAND + Micron LPDDR3 Memory + Silicon Motion SM2258 Controller

      Samsung 860 Evo = Samsung 64-layer 3D TLC NAND + Samsung LPDDR4 Memory + Samsung MJX Controller

      • Interesting. How much of a difference does the DDR4 make?

        • +2

Probably marginal. The bigger advantage would be Samsung optimising their controller to run with their own NAND flash memory.

    • +1

cheaper postage too, picked up a 500gb cheers

  • Why does it show (for the 2TB) 315 + 9.95 = 328.20???

    • +1

      Credit card surcharge 1%

      • yah just noticed this too after i submitted the order
