Self explanatory, good deal SSD.
Best price so far on Camel Camel Camel.

Feast away my friends.

Interface PCIe Gen3 x4
Sequential Write Up to 1,950MB/s
Sequential Write Up to 1,950MB/s

This SSD is lacking a DRAM chip, however the WD Blue NVME range has a memory controller than serves a similar purpose.

  • Good price!

  • I was looking at this earlier today wondering if it would make a good SSD read only cache for my Synology NAS but honestly not sure whether it’ll be worthwhile.

    • If your read cache dies and you don't have redundancy you can be in for a world of hurt.

It sounds good in theory but in practice it can cause more issues.Sorta flies in the face of raid with home setups. Read performance is negligible usually and read write means you have another avenue you can break your system.

      • But wouldn't the underlying data in my RAID array be totally fine?

        • +1

Well kinda. If something goes wrong with the RW cache you will trash your data. Read cache is fine but there usually isn't a huge impact.

The main issue is if your NAS dies. We had a NAS with RW cache enabled which we were testing mobo died. Replacing the NAS caused a 100% data loss because of the RW cache. It didn't have important data on it and had HA but still wasn't very impressed with that.

      • That's why you buy two of them and put them in raid 1.

  • Just a noob question. Looking for a good 1 TB SSD for my Lenovo carbon X1 6G. Is WD SN 550 1 TB or SN750 1TB compatible with my Lenovo laptop? If not, which 1TB SSD drive will be the best for my Lenovo? Thanks.

    • +2

There are several options to choose from that will work nicely. The ones you mentioned are compatible with your notebook. One of the top-tier ones is the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. There are less expensive ones from other manufacturers but I have only ever used Samsung models because of their durability and endurance.

      Hope this helps.

        Many thanks.

  • Thanks OP!
    Pretty Good Price!

I'm holding out for a 1TB NVMe SSD though.
NVMe M.2 Slots are limited, I'm going to keep waiting and hoping.

    • +1

Waiting and hoping for what? There are plenty of 1TB NVMe drives around. The Kingston A2000 is pretty cheap at the moment (~$165).

      • Love the A2000 but for me the write speeds fluctuate from 0MB/s to 500MB/s on my Biostar B45M2, on my laptop it has zero issues with this which is really weird. Must be bad firmware or BIOS. Benchmarking it at half full on my laptop it's running perfectly though.

      • Waiting & hoping for a ripper price on a good 1TB NVMe. (had my eye on the
        Crucial CT1000P1SSD8 1TB & the WD Blue SN550 1TB lately)

I don't absolutely need one… but if a good price comes along, I'll undoubtedly get one for my spare M.2 slot.

It's the OzB Way isn't it?

Not had but got this one though

I'm blue abu di abu da

  • Good price! The SN550 has no Dram but still it is a dang good price.

Shame we can't order from the wd us site. $87

  • Which is better, this deal or this Crucial?

  • How is this vs the Crucial P1? I have 2 nvme slots on my ITX mb so would this be okay on the slot behind the motherboard?

    • +1

In the linked (below) Toms Hardware review; the S550 does as well or better than the P1 in most tests.

      https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-blue-sn550-m2-nvme-s…

    • You have to check your mobo manual to see where the lanes come from for each NVMe slot.

    • From what I've seen the SN550 does very slightly better in most tests (but it also generally costs more)

  • For an everyday drive or even a backup drive do you guys recommend OPs WD Blue SN550 $105 delivered (w/o prime) over the Barracuda 510 that's $140 delivered? It's about 33.33% price difference which makes it harder to make a choice as I'm happy to spend more for quality that lasts longer.

Any thoughts / comments much appreciated!

  • I think the review linked in the description is to the SN500 which is the previous model. This is the SN550.

  • Price is back up, sorry guys!
